Galatians 5:22-23

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

Over the next two weeks, we will memorize Galatians 5:22–23, a declaration of the fruit that results from keeping in step with the Spirit. Throughout this week, take time to write this passage on a piece of paper several times as a way to begin committing these verses to memory.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.
—Galatians 5:22–23

Truly one of the most important takeaways from the Bible. So difficult (in human nature) to achieve but truly worth it.

Alicia you should never be concerned about asking for prayer. Prayer is the one thing everyone can you and it doesn’t cost any one anything.

At bedtime, I’m reading a devotion titled “Portraits of Devotion” by Beth Moore, she covers some of the same items. Her wisdom, much like the the wisdom of the SRT writer, is great. I love reading her books. My dear sisters, I hope you have a wonderful week, and may the Lord bless you all.

Alicia, this is not silly. We are privileged and honored to pray for you. Trust me, we need more attorneys like you in the courtroom.

Both my kids grew up going to VBS during summer. They loved it! My son went on to volunteer his entire junior high and high school years. At one of the local VBS’s there was a silly song that helped the children memorize this particular verse. I can still hear the song in my head. But what a great verse to memorize and never forget.. Those were fun times. I can still see all the children singing it. I can still hear my kids singing it.

Praying for you this week Alicia- as you study and take exams. Thank you Curltopangel for that description of the fruits of the Spirit. On the podcast last Monday, for this study, they talked about the “fruit “ of the spirit as singular. They then explained how each attribute relates to the others and are interwoven. ( I can’t remember exact word they used here). This was just a new level of understanding for me. Delighting in the work of the Spirit today.

Praying for you Alicia as you prepare for your finals in law school. Praying you remain focused and that you have peace.

  34. Alicia Gilbert says:

Hello, ladies. I am asking for your prayers today. I feel silly asking for prayers as I prepare for my final exams for law school (especially in this 2020 season) because I have prayed over so many of your urgent requests these past few months, many of which have brought me to tears. But I am thankful that this community always cares for one another through all walks of life, and I really just feel like I could use some prayers over the next few weeks. I have struggled with anxiety my whole life, but I recently have been doing a little better. I know that is God giving me peace, and I praise him for that. But I feel like I need prayers that I continue to trust in Him through the next few weeks. I put a lot of “performance pressure” on my grades because law school and employers put a lot of emphasis on them. Law school is also very competitive so it is easy for me to get wrapped up in that mentality, especially in difficult classes where it is easily to feel inadequate. But I need help remembering who I am in Christ has nothing to do with my performance on exams. I also need prayers that I can feel confident in the preparations I have made all semester, and I can have focus these next few weeks to make final preparations. I ask for focus because my anxiety can also cause me to struggle to focus on studying. Mostly, I need prayers that I remember and trust that God is in control of all situations, including something small like this final exam season, so I don’t have to fear the outcomes of this season or feel like I have to be in control over the outcome. Rather, I can pray for focus and do my best to study diligently and trust Him no matter the outcome.

  35. Lauren Mackey says:

Amen. This is such a great verse to pray over each day.

  36. Barbara Campbell says:

As Believers, we don’t have to ask for patience.. faithfulness.. joy.. etc. We have them from the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit. We do have to surrender our lives to His control daily in order to walk in the Spirit and bear this fruit. When we bear fruit of the flesh, it’s not for lack… it’s a choice we’ve made. I pray these verses regular for myself, my husband and my children. Lord help us be fruit bearers who bear Your fruit.

  37. Curltopangel says:

When studying the Fruit of the Spirit years ago in Bible Study Fellowship, our teaching leader shared this quote from Bill Bright describing the Fruit of the Spirit. It is such a beautiful description, since I have memorized the verses, I want to challenge myself to memorize this description.

“The fruit of His Spirit is LOVE. And it is manifested in this way. Joy is love’s strength; peace is love’s security; patience is love’s endurance; goodness is love’s character; kindness is love’s conduct; faithfulness is love’s confidence; gentleness is love’s humility; and self-control is love’s victory.”

Christ is love. So His spiritual fruit is Him coming out through me to touch the lives of others.

  38. Churchmouse says:

Have we not all needed an abundance of the Fruit of the Spirit in 2020? No other year has challenged me like this one. I am daily drawing from the Fruit basket, grateful it never runs empty. The Holy Spirit is the gracious supplier and I am the needy recipient.

    1. Rita W says:

      Amen!

  39. Tina says:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.

Thankful… so very thankful, for the fruit of the Spirit..
I don’t always get it right..

    But God ..

By His grace, in His love, through His mercy and forgiveness, I am given a second/third/ fifth/hundredth… and then some chance to do it right..

    Thank you Lord. Thank you.

    Amen.

    Happy Sunday wrapped in love!
