Isaiah 42:8

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the gospel with us wherever we go.

This week we will memorize the key verse for this reading plan, which powerfully summarizes the supremacy of God’s name.

“I am the LORD. That is my name,
and I will not give my glory to another
or my praise to idols.”
–Isaiah 42:8

This edifies the first commandment. He is the only God. No other gods can be praised because they did not create what He created which is everything.

The LORD! He is good and above all. Even on my weakest days where I have enormous anxiety and fears I have to remember he is above it all!!! He is above the situations that make me anxious- he is above the people that can make my day hard. He is the Lord!

Our God says He is a jealous God. Jealous for US! He wants us to be loyal to Him., no praise to idols or glory to other gods or priority to other things. I AM is His name and He alone is Lord! Praise Him with all your words, songs and deeds!

  13. Jen says:

My eight-year-old son Noah is in need of prayers. He started in a new elementary school this year and has yet to make a friend. Daily he tells me “I’m sad” and “My heart is completely broken”. We talk with God and read the Bible together, asking Him to bring peace and love into Noah’s heart and a good friend into his life . My son has been sick on and off since he was four years old and has missed quite a bit of school, making it even more difficult to maintain connections with friends. Please help me to pray for the love of Jesus Christ to soothe his sadness and heal his heart and body and for the precious gift of a good friend. Thank you and blessings.

    1. Churchmouse says:

Praying for your sweet boy and for your tender momma’s heart. Perhaps enlist the teacher’s help as well as encouraging your son to just talk to whoever is sitting beside him. School days can be such tough days. Praying for a quick connection.

    2. Karen Lockwood says:

Praying for Noah and for you, his mom. Our children’s pain hurts more than our own.

    3. Missy Bailey says:

Hi Jen, please be assured my house has prayed for Noah. Take care!

    4. Sarah D. says:

Praying for you and your son <3

    5. Mari V says:

I’m praying for your son Jen. I work at a school. I am not a teacher. But the kids there call me teacher. Whenever I see a child by themselves I go get other children introduced them to one another. Maybe talk to the teacher about your concern. Been times when parents have come up to me and I make sure that I introduce other children to one another. I am one that does not like to see a child by themselves.

  14. Emily T says:

Prayers please everyone? My family is trying a new church today after being hurt by one a few years ago. Secondly, me and my mom are both business owners who could desperately use some sales right now, so prayers for that too? Thank you.

    1. Lynne says:

Emily, I am praying for you and your family. May God lead you to the church where you need to be. I’m also praying for your business.

Adding my prayers for success for both of your prayer requests :that your family would connect with the church and that sales would increase for your business.

    4. Sarah D. says:

Praying for you and your family! <3

    5. Mari V says:

I remember walking into a church with fear and uncertainties as this church was very big! That was 20 years ago! Emily, I will be praying for you. I will also pray that your business increases.

  15. Churchmouse says:

God will not give His glory to another. No need for me to strive for fame and fortune because I will never receive the ‘glory’ that is only reserved for God. May I instead seek to do His will, to live contentedly and at peace within it. The pursuit of the applause and recognition of man is a futile and fickle one. Accepting and fulfilling and resting in God’s purpose for my life is enough, a fully satisfying, abundant life. My purpose is to give Him glory, not seek my own.

    1. Jennifer says:

Amen! I whole-heartedly agree. We were made to worship the one true God, not ourselves or other things. Things of this world don’t bring peace, but when I force myself to stop and take a breath and just spend quiet time with God, I am reminded of just how wonderful He is and how undeserving I am. Oh, how this amazing God could love us sinners! He is holy, loving, slow to anger, ready to forgive, healer, all that we need, and so much more. So why do we run after anything else?

  16. Eliza Bulz says:

No more idols in my life. All bow to the one true God
