Day 7

Weekly Truth

from the 1 & 2 Samuel reading plan

1 Samuel 8:7

BY She Reads Truth

Memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to carry God-breathed truth, instruction, and reproof wherever we go.

As we read through 1 & 2 Samuel together, we will memorize five important verses from these books. This week we are memorizing the key verse for 1 Samuel, a turning point in the story of God’s people: Israel asked for a king.

But the Lᴏʀᴅ told him, “Listen to the people and everything they say to you. They have not rejected you; they have rejected me as their king.”
-1 Samuel 8:7

Write this passage down and post it on your mirror or at your desk, in your car or on the fridge—anywhere you’ll see it often. Save the image below as your phone’s lock screen so you can read these words of truth throughout the day.

We want to be a community that is intentional about Scripture memorization. Will you join us?

This is such an amazing verse!! I feel so convicted and yet still so blind!! I know there are still so many areas of my life that I have rejected Him as king. And yet He guided me to this study to show me. I can’t wait to bow before Him and saying Jesus, I submit to you as my King, and stay submitted to Him. I know it’s a life long journey but I can’t wait to live a surrendered life.

I love taking such a deep look into this pivotal story!

This verse is heartbreaking…I think it can also be applied to sharing the gospel with the lost. When they reject it, it is not us that they reject, but Jesus.

  4. Mari says:

It’s only because of my KING JESUS that I can stand where life has me right now. My heart aches so much, for my children and myself. Thanking Jesus that I know he loves me right where I’m at. And that he is my strength. Thank you all here at SRT for your continued prayers. And once again I’m reminding the SRT team not to contact me by email. I know that you are praying.

I’m loving this study so far!! God is showing me how to truly bow to Christ as KING of my heart and life!!

  6. Valerie says:

This seems to apply so perfectly to our churches today. In so many ways we have rejected God for the kings of culture. May we, as the Church, turn to the Lord as King and worship Him alone.

The people said “Give us a king!” God heard “We reject Yahweh!” God sees past our superficial words to our heart’s motivation. He is not fooled. Praying this morning that the words I speak are thoughtful ones, ones that are true and ones that reflect my heart. May my heart and my speech be one. Let me be honest to the core before my Lord.

      Beautifully written.

  8. Karen From Virginia says:

Jesus, you are my King. Show my where my actions don’t line up with this truth. Help me to trust and live a surrendered life.
