The Second Sunday of Christmastide

Open Your Bible

2 Corinthians 4:14

For the final day of this reading plan, we will spend time lingering in the longing, waiting, and expectation of the season by reading a short passage from Scripture.

For we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you.
—2 Corinthians 4:14

@MARJORIE CRITES: praying over your credit card debt situation. If I may suggest books by Dave Ramsey, a recent one I read was Baby Steps Millionaires. He is a devoted Christian and author that has taught on strict disciplines to get out of debt/bondage to reduce stress esp. financial stress that can break up families. You can do this. It’s just a phase and the Lord will help you sister.

Happy New Year everyone! My God bless you and your family all year long!

  33. Mari V says:

But God….. I’m so thankful for the two witnesses who graciously made sure my daughter and I were OK. Plus, they saw the accident happen, and hopefully the other parties insurance will consider their statements. They gave me their phone numbers As I still laying in bed here, I think of them as angels who were there to help my daughter out. It was so wet out there and they were there for us.

  34. Heidi Anders says:

Happy New Year everyone! I could use some prayer for wisdom and direction.

  35. Mari V says:

THANK you beautiful sisters For lifting my daughter and I up in your prayers. I still didn’t sleep really well and I’m exhausted! BUT, the sun is up today. We’ve had several non-sunny days. I’m still in bed trying to rest mainly my mind.
I am so thankful for all of you and your prayers as I was devastated and so was my daughter and son.

  36. Mari V says:

  37. Carly S says:

Happy new year! I don’t post on here a lot, but I read through everyone’s comments and prayer requests everyday! 2022 was a very hard year for me, and it’s left me feeling nervous and afraid for 2023. I guess I could use some prayers to be hopeful and faithful for what God has in store for me this year instead of nervous and afraid. Thank you!

  38. GramsieSue says:

Mari V, I’m so thankful that you and your daughter are safe. Yes, your car is in bad shape, but God is able to provide again, and again, and again.
Praying that we all are blessed by God this year.
Sometimes blessings come in ways we wouldn’t choose, so let’s keep our spiritual eyes open and aware of how God is at work around us.
Don’t worry, pray about everything, and in everything give thanks, and God will give you peace. (My daughter’s paraphrase of Philippians 4:6-7 for her 2 year old to memorize. Now June asks for “her Phippy verse”)
    Hugs to all ❤️

  39. Carly Shortland says:

Happy New Year everyone! I don’t usually post on here, I think only once before. But I would love to get in the habit of doing so. I read through everyone’s comments and prayer requests. I have mixed feelings about the start of this new year. 2022 was one of the most difficult years, and I am having trouble hoping and dreaming for a better 2023. I guess I could just use prayers to be hopeful and faithful for whatever God has in store (and not afraid!). Thank you all!

  40. J Lynn says:

Happy New Year sisters; from Connecticut ❤️

  41. Lindsey Bradley says:

Yes!!!! Same here!!!!! Last night I went to church and a friend spoke over me that God was increasing order in my life, and decreasing stress, and that He doesn’t see things the way we see them and that i don’t have to exhaust myself and strive to make it happen bc of ADHD!!! That I can rest in Him as He helps put my life back in order. Praying this over you as well!

  42. Dawn Enns says:

I am so thankful for thos new day of this New Year.
    Bless you all ❤️

  43. Mariah says:

Praying for grace for you and your husband. There is power in confession to each other. Sin thrives in darkness, you just let the light in! Praise God!

  44. Marjorie Crites says:

Happy New Year. I believe in confessing things to our brothers and sisters in Christ that we might find healing in it. I was diagnosed recently with ADHD. I know I’ve had it for years. I spend money that I don’t have. Im in debt terrible. When I see something I want, I buy it with a credit card. The Lord set me free from it once, but I went right back into it. My husband doesn’t know that my credit cards that were all consolidated are charged back up again. I’m sick about it but laying it at Gods feet today as I start the New Year. I just wanted to confess to my sisters in Christ for prayer and also for the healing of it. I’m struggling and I ask for your help.

  45. Jennifer Loves Jesus says:

Happy New Year! A new beginning, a season we all share with a sense of starting over of sorts. This year I begin with intentional wonder. I remember the original beginning of Creation: “In the beginning God made the heaven and the earth. The earth was invisible and unfinished; and darkness was over the deep. The Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the water. Then God said, “Let there be light”, and there was light.” (Genesis 1:1-3). I could stay right here and wonder with amazement forever. I wonder at how Jesus is the Word, and He was and is with God, and through Whom He made the light along with all of Creation. And I wonder at how Jesus came to us with deep gratitude. Oh the wonder to be wondered at! Miracle after miracle, we read of Jesus healing many, fulfilling prophecy, hearts changing, the dead rising, and I cannot help but wonder with a smile of contentment on my heart. I know Who He is, and I know what He came to do. I wonder at how I was chosen to know this, and it is no less true. “For we know that the One who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you.” (2 Corinthians 4:14). Paul knew too as He wrote this to the people of Corinth. The Word was Jesus in the beginning with God, as light for the earth was created. “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:4). So we become children of light with Jesus. “And the light shines in the darkness…” (v. 5). I wonder with amazement at the true Light who gives light so we can see truth. So we can “become children of God, given to those who believe in His name.” (v. 12). “And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.” (v. 16). My heart ponders this mystery with awe and wonder, and then peace comes to fill the empty places, and truth lights up the darkness. Father, make my life shine for others to be able to see You and become Your children too. Use me to encourage other believers to hold on to the wonder and mystery of Your Word. Selah. Maranatha. Amen.

  47. Nancy Singleton says:

Mari V, praising God for protecting you & your daughter from serious injury. I’m trusting God to redeem this upsetting situation-perhaps by your gracious treatment of the person who hit you?
On another note-several days ago there was a question about the use of a non-believer’s words in our study. Today I came across this quote from Paul in Philippians 4:18–“But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.” I hope this helps.

  48. Sarah D. says:

Happy New Year everyone!! Excited for this year, praying that it would be a good year and better than last year haha. Either way God is in control.

I received the She Reads Truth book for Christmas and I decided to check out the website before continuing to read the book. This is such a neat concept and I cannot wait to do the daily readings!

  51. Dorothy says:

Mari V. grateful you and your daughter weren’t hurt, will be praying for a solution for your car; want to leave you with a thought my father used always tell me when I would worry about things like replacing a car — “Material things can be replaced, lives can not be thankful you (and your daughter) have yours. God will provide a way.”

  52. Debbie says:

Happy New Year She sisters!! Looking forward to beginning our new study tomorrow. Prayering Mari V, thanking God for his protection over you and your daughter and praying and trusting your car can be fixed in a timely manner..
    My word for 2023; PEACE

DOROTHY – love your post, Amen!

MARI V – so sorry to hear about the accident :(. Thankful you and your daughter are ok, praying for repairs to be made quickly at the other person’s expense. Can’t imagine how it felt to be hit so hard that the tire was ripped off – even more thankful for God’s protection when I think about the force of that impact.

  56. Dorothy says:

Lord Father God help us to do Your will and watch over us as we wait for Your Son to return for us. Only You know this but what a glorious day this will be. Christ Jesus we try to wait patiently and we try to follow Your ways. Holy Spirit be with as we go out into a harsh, chaotic, unforgiving and even mean, sometimes, world and help us not to be like those who are like that. Almighty One I praise You for all You have done for me, given me, and have forgiven for. Lord as the song by the music group Bethel goes:
    “I raise a hallelujah
In the presence of my enemies
    I raise a hallelujah
    Louder than the unbelief
    I raise a hallelujah
    My weapon is a melody
    I raise a hallelujah
Heaven comes to fight for me”. I thank You for allowing Heaven to come and fight for and with me. Jesus as we start this new year of life with You and our families, friends, Christian family — including our SRT sisters — and even our enemies help us to show kindness and love in everything we do as You did. Holy Spirit be by our side as we further learn more about the Triune which are a part of and help us to understand it. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, amen.

Be blessed and don’t make a resolution find a word for the year to live by and read Scripture on instead sisters. My word is kind/kindness.

  58. Aimee D-R says:

May we all have more Jesus in 2023! Amen

  59. Kathy says:

There is so much joy and peace in knowing that one day I will physically be in the presence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. My prayer is that for now, in the meantime, I will walk through my day more aware of His presence with me right now. Lord, I pray that you open my eyes to all the evidence of your goodness in my life. Help me not only be aware of your presence but to be present in the moments of my life. I don’t want to miss a thing this year!
    Happy New Year, sisters!

My comment posted before I was finished. Please pray as I can’t sleep. I feel so sad. This is the vehicle that Jehovah Jireh provided for me, and with the help of my family, I was able to put a down payment on it. Impact caused the back left tire to be completely ripped off and I couldn’t see what other damage there was because it was raining so hard. But God… My daughter and I are alive. Please pray it can get fixed and that the other parties insurance will cooperate, and that my car is fixable. But right now I just wanna sleep. We are so sad right now.

  68. Mari V says:
