The Plot Against Paul

Open Your Bible

Acts 23:12-35, Psalm 40:16-17, 2 Corinthians 4:8-12

When I was a girl, I was not good at sitting still. If I had a good book, I could get lost in its pages for an hour or two. Television, with all its mindless cartoons and gaudy commercials, only inspired an even deeper sense of ennui. I wanted to go somewhere. I wanted to do something. I was always standing at the hem of my mother’s skirt, asking, “What are we doing next?”

“This,” my mother would say, pointing around the kitchen or the living room or the pile of clean laundry in need of sorting, folding, and putting-away. “This is what we’re doing.”

Life can often feel like one long series of mundane tasks. In contrast, Paul and his life in prison reads like one magnificent action-packed screenplay. Suddenly, there was a plot among the Jewish people to ambush Paul and murder him in broad daylight. But through deft maneuvering the tribune was altered, and in the dead of night Paul was sent away on a two-day trip from Jerusalem to Caesarea under heavy guard. Though all of this must have been supremely terrifying in the moment, there is also a sense that God was up to something—something purposeful, something meaningful.

It’s easy to look at Paul’s dramatic, purposeful life and think that he was doing something right. But I think that would be missing the fuller story. Luke (the presumed author of Acts) includes a tiny detail in this narrative that can nearly escape the eye. It wasn’t just any young boy who alerted Claudius Lysias of the plot to kill Paul. He is unnamed, but we’re told he was “the son of Paul’s sister” (Acts 23:16).

We do not know how Paul’s nephew heard of this ambush. Did he walk through the market and overhear someone whispering? Was he buying eggs from a woman who let the gossip slip? Or did he happen to hitch up his donkey near some loud-talking would-be-murderers? We will never know. But nonetheless, at great risk to himself, he bravely informed Paul of the plans and then informed a centurion and the tribune as well. He snitched. I wonder, when all was said and done, if that mob of forty men learned of this young boy’s actions. Was he safe after this? Even if no one learned of his identity, I have to imagine the boy went through the next few years of his life worried that the Jewish leaders might find out what he’d done. If they were willing to kill Paul, what would they do to this nameless young kid?

Oh, to be an unnamed character in God’s great story. What I wouldn’t give to play such a supporting role in the work God is doing in the redemption of the world! I think, as a child, that is mostly what I wanted—not activity or entertainment but meaning. I wanted to believe that God might put me to use.

And the great news is—He does! He prepares good works for me to do in advance, works that will require great courage. And I do not have to go looking for those works. Just as the son of Paul’s sister found an opportunity for faith and courage, I do not have to strive to find God’s plan for my life. After all, it’s His plan, not mine. I can stay where I am—doing “this,” as my mother always said—trusting that God is with me and will guide me to fulfill His calling on my life.

Amen. God is doing something….. purposeful and meaningful with all of us and we just don’t know it yet. We are all unnamed characters in Gods story and how blessed are we. I’ve found myself feeling exhausted and living day to day as if it’s ground hogs day and the thought of this story being applicable to us today with a purpose only God knows.____ it makes me excited to see how I will play a part or hopeful that I would be so lucky to be an “extra” to spread the good news of Jesus. How wonderful He is. How lucky and blessed we are. Before this read, I was saying my prayer of thanksgiving for the Lord who brought me my husband. It’s been a rough season and my husband has been so patient and understanding ~ all Gods timing. He knows what we need before we do. God is good and I am so hopeful that he uses me for whatever his plan is. I am IN. I am so grateful for you “she’s”. In this together….. growing together to fight the evil of this world.

Wow, today’s reading is exactly what I’ve been praying for. Just like Paul, we do not have to do anything in our own strength, we just have to be willing to fulfill God’s purpose and plan, which is always better than ours

  10. Mercy says:

What a plot, with a fasting (“bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they kill…”). What kind of fasting is that? This brought to mind the chapter of True Fasting in Isaiah 58. “Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and you have not seen it?”… Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers. Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high. Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord?”. Here they fast so they can kill. These are religious leaders and I can’t help but wondering if they know the sixth commandment “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). Perhaps knowledge is not the issue, but doing it is the issue. Jesus had already exposed this hypocrisy, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions” (Mark 7:9). Jesus also went further to redefine “You shall not murder” to include hatred, “Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer” (1 John 3:15). May we check our heart, our motive. Guard ourselves against hypocrisy and silent hatred. Zeal without submission to God becomes violence. The Law, when detached from the Spirit, produces death (“For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life” 2 Corinthians 3:6). Be blessed dear sisters.

God lets Paul know the Jews have a plot to kill him. The commander is concerned because he knows Paul is a Roman citizen. He sends Paul out with 200 soldiers, 70 calvary, and 200 spearmen. Wow! It makes me think of our citizenship being in heaven – we are children of the King! How much more does God provide and protect us until we have finished our purpose for Him on earth?!! When we feel like things are out of our control we can rest in the knowledge that God has us. Comforting thoughts for me today.

This is ME. I have just started as a foster parent and I have now done 2 nights of respite for a 12 year old black boy. Respite is filling in for a period of time when the child’s primary caretaker isn’t available. There are so much I could say about the positive and how God has been helping me in multiple ways. I’ll try to make it brief and concise.

This boy is unchurched and Wednesday night, February 4. We were speaking about religion and he said that he thought about being Muslim, but there were too many rules yet he knew he needed a guy in his life. I had the opportunity to take him to youth group with me that Wednesday night as I teach preschoolers and toddlers on Wednesday nights. He absolutely loved my church and said it was the best one he’d ever been to. On the drive-in he said that he didn’t wanna talk bad about Christians, but he’d had a bad experience at previous church. Wednesday night when we got home from church, he asked me what I did in my class for my kids. I was able to briefly explain that is a creation, briefly explain the Trinity and was able to hone in really deep on Jesus and what he did on the cross for our sins so that we could have a relationship with him. This was extremely exciting to me as this is the first time I can recall ever we have a chance to show the gospel. He was all excited about being able to come back to church. I h I was able to bring him to church again yesterday. I’m just amazed at how God has open doors and has allowed his work to go forth through me. Couple years ago God gave me the verse Esther four verse 14 as my Foster Care Journey scripture. For such a time as this, I was placed on this earth. (paraphrased.) it is just really exciting to see how God has been helping me emotionally mentally at a personal level as a result of my Foster Care and respite Journey. The God with the glory. It seems that when I am trying to to live my life in reckless abandoned to God and with the uncertainty that comes with Fostering because you never know when you get a phone call that’s gonna provide a placement or take your current placement and move them some results and even though I don’t do well with abrupt change, I am so at peace with my current state of life and how God has helped prepare me and help me process these abrupt changes by giving me small doses at a time so that I can adjust and be ready for things. It’s just phenomenal.

    1. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

Wow, that is truly amazing Michelle! What a blessing to be able to foster children, children who might not otherwise ever hear the gospel, and for your opportunity to share and bring him to church twice – “for such a time as this”! It has blessed me this morning just to hear how God is using you and for the opportunity He gave. I will be praying for this young man. May God work mightily in his heart and may there be many more opportunities in the (I’m assuming) short time that you have him.
And I must say, God bless you for taking on this “ministry”. How blessed the children are to be put in your home, a christian home, even if for a very short time. I so admire those who take that step to be a foster parent. It’s a sacrifice, some times a risk and I know it’s not easy. God bless you as you serve Him in this way! ❤️

      1. Cee Gee says:

Amen to what Sharon said! ❤
Thank you, Michelle, for highlighting the power of the ‘little things’ with such a great testimony!

      2. Rhonda J. says:

I agree! What a beautiful testimony about this boy, and YOU taking him to church…and all the little God alignments putting it together with your yeses!! You are right that it takes so much commitment, uncomfortable-ness, sacrifice! That is an amazing ministry! And so needed.

    2. Tricia C says:

Honestly, I am on a season of “what next.” Since losing my precious husband of 46 years, I am trying to figure out what is next. Who am I without him (we married when I was only 16)? Yes, I am a child of God! And my faith is so strong, yet is is a strange “place” to be.

    1. Rhonda J. says:

I can only imagine! But you have been doing much, your influence and blessing to us as you navigated through the horrific, shocking loss. And still mourning the loss of your son. God has giving you your blogs and influence, and beautiful testimonies!! There is much more to do, but grieving is important! All in God’s timing, praying for your future endeavors!! :)

    2. Cheryl Blow says:

Praying for you in the waiting!

    3. I can not imagine what that must be like Mia Faith, I do know how very hard it must be. Your faith through all of this has been such a testimony to me and to all of us here at SRT. I will be praying for you as you navigate through this next season of life without the love of your life. May God lead and guide you step by step as you continue to put one foot in front of the other. You are precious to Him. I know that you know but I’ll remind you anyway – God has a plan for you and He will guide you and fulfill it in His timing. Don’t lose heart. Much love and prayers. ❤️

    4. Lynne from Alabama says:

  21. Rhonda J. says:

Oh, obedience. And this is why it matters our “yes” to God. What if the Nephew hadn’t said yes you God? He knew what he should do, what he must do, but it would have been a big deal, maybe even getting jailed or killed himself, or who knows.
It is easy to be obedient to God in the easy and comfortable. Oh we like it when our Christian life flourishes in a nice neat, go to church, pray, and share scripture kinda flow. But what happens when the hard choices come that go against everyone around us, our family, and friends. Well, we are getting more of a wide spread taste of that now- but again we have other believers to back us and support us. But when it could endanger our life to support a looked upon crazy Zionist that is disrupting the standard of the Jews for centuries. This was at such a crucial stage of history. The Jewish people were being tested in a huge way.
Aren’t we being tested right now with “siding” with truth…which truth? The debates are in full swing right now. It is as dividing now as it was then. Replacement theology? Stand with Israel? Gay Pastor? Abortion, Pro-choice? It all is dividing. But the church should stand firm. Yet, we are all shouting different things.
I just want to stay so close to Jesus that he keeps me in his will. Giving me eyes to see, ears to hear. And that means turning it all off enough to hear, but to also pay attention to what the crowds are saying. I don’t want to miss my chance that God is nudging me to do something big for his cause. If Christians don’t stand, we’ll fall for anything. The ones that stepped up made important changes! It matters, it changes the course! The nephew saved Paul to live and do more at the risk of himself. Martin Luther. Charlie Kirk. Today many young and old are standing for the Lord in places that people come against them, and even arrest. They go into the storm and lead worship and praise to the Lord at risk, or rather knowing they are going to be scorned, ridiculed, and more.
Oh Lord, help us to stay strong, for ourselves in our relationship with you. But more so, for righteousness sake. For your NAME. The name above all names. Help us to know what you want us to do. The word must be in our hearts, souls, and minds. Then you will guide us o Lord. You don’t leave or forsake us. Will it be easy, no. But we will be bold, strong, and courageous, just as Paul, and just as his nephew. You used many weak, wayward, meek, humble, stubborn people—and changed them to God-fearing, giant killing, lion conquering, fire resistant greats! Your miracles that still give us Faith and hope. Thank you Lord, you have big stuff for us, embolden us. In Jesus name! Amen

    1. Amen! #staystrong #inchristalone

    4. Mercy says:

Amen. The Lord’s opinions are very clear on all those controversial issues. It is the compromising humans that make a blend in/accepting to honor and appease culture and the crowd… above God. Wheat and tares are always side by side. The mercies of God are so deep for both (wicked and righteous) that He won’t pull them out just yet. He is waiting for changed hearts. He is so patient. Love (GOD) is truly patient. I love your post. Thank you for your courage to voice the difficult challenges.

This right here is where I get myself tangled and trapped in “I do not have to strive to find God’s plan for my life.” Lord, free me from my anxious obsessive thoughts that I have to strive and find Your plan for my life.

    1. Tamit says:

Me too. It’ so freeing to just surrender it

  24. Wendy B says:

Today’s reading makes me think along the lines of how we have no idea how our presence, our words, our simple act of kindness, a “right place, right time” kind of moment” can dramatically impact another for the better. Paul’s nephew didn’t “just happen” to overhear this evil plot. The Lord directed his steps that day to be where he was at just rhe right moments to hear what was planned. There are no random moments in God’s kingdom, He is Sovereign overall. As we go through our days we can be mindful and ready for the same and be reminded that in simple, unknown, fleeting, everyday moments God can use us in ways that have a far greater impact than we know. Heavenly Father, may this be so in my life and please use me in ways through everyday moments, interactions and conversations that I have to point others to you so they can see the work of your hand and understand your mercy, grace, goodness, forgiveness and love. Help me not to overlook the impact of what my reaction, response, or willingness to help may truly mean to another. Show me your heart and your ways as I cross paths with others today. Amen❤️

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, amen. That’s exactly what my new study is saying “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God.” by Lysa Tuerkeust. That God has things for us, but we often are just too busy or distracted to notice. But when we are aware…oh, everything changes! There are God moments (winks) everywhere, even jaw-dropping (love those!) And NOTE- We may not be “seeing” what is happening in the moment but if you are walking in step with the Lord, you are indeed doing things impactful! And oh, when he shows you down the way, how it will bless you and confirm your Yeses! And I keep thinking be faithful in the little, and he gives us more. And it does become more challenging. None of our Great Heroes of faith had easy choices. Abraham was called to put his one and only son on an altar. Noah had to build an ark while other scoffed him and called him crazy. All the disciples suffered and all but one were martyred. Scary, BUT GOD- His will and plan for us is just perfect, we have to be willing to say yes whole-heartedly.

    2. “As we go through our days we can be mindful and ready for the same and be reminded that in simple, unknown, fleeting, everyday moments God can use us in ways that have a far greater impact than we know.” Yes and Amen! ❤️

My goodness! I feel like this spoke directly to me today! I struggle, wondering if I’m doing what God wants me to be doing. And to know that I can stay where I am, doing what I’m doing, trusting God is with me and he will guide me to fulfill his calling on my life. Amen!

  26. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

” After all, it’s His plan, not mine. I can stay where I am—doing “this,” as my mother always said—trusting that God is with me and will guide me to fulfill His calling on my life.”
    .
Ahh – Yes, this is what I needed to hear this morning!
As someone in full time ministry, living in a parsonage and never having owned our own home -we have no equity built up. And after my husband having to take a pay cut every year for the past 5 years, it has been very difficult to save money for a future home. It’s easy to wonder, to be concerned. Where will we go after here? How will we be able to afford it? What will we do?
    .
And then there are times like today that I am reminded – It’s God’s plan for our lives, not ours. We need to just keep doing what we are doing, and trusting that God will do the rest. He is faithful. He is worthy of that trust.

In not reading the prior verses in 2 Corinthians 4:8-12, we miss one very important detail of “how” Paul was not crushed, not perplexed, not in despair, not destroyed. It was because of God’s mercy, (vs 4) Jesus Christ, (vs 5,6) and the power that is of God, not of ourselves. (vs 7).
Without these Paul would have been helpless and without hope.
    .
The same goes for me and my husband and our ministry of 32+ years. It is by God’s grace & mercy, and Jesus presence and power that we are able to trust, not be afraid and wait for Him to guide us to fulfill His calling on our lives. I do not have to strive, He has a plan. He will provide. To God be the glory.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way – to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
    .
    Happy Monday She’s. ❤️

    3. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, amen Sharon! You are doing wonderful by staying steadfast in his will for Jeff and you! That takes faith and trust! Especially not knowing your future! But knowing that God WILL provide, our Jehovah Jireh! He is more than enough!

    Wow! What a great story!
About Paul not backing down from the truth.
About the courageous action of Paul’s nephew. About the adventure of Paul’s daring escape.
About repeating the narrative of salvation in the resurrection.
Who knows when our own “risky business” might occur. Or how our own “rescue” from harm might unfold.
There are no accidental characters or wasted events.
Following The Way is never a straight line.
There is a place & a time for everyone.
Isn’t that what we love about the Good News?
    Lord, make me attentive.

Good morning, SRT ladies. It has been awhile since I posted, but I still read faithfully with all of you. There is an app I use to answer Biblical questions called Ask Ezra. It gives some excellent insight into Scripture and helps with understanding the Bible from an historical and cultural perspective. There is a free version where you can ask up to 3 questions per day or a paid version with more access. I highly recommend it!

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Hi Laura…I just commented to you under a lower comment!! You were on my mind yesterday. Read below. I am glad you are here. You made an impact on me standing strong on your obedience to the Lord when it was hard and against the culture. You could have folded to be agreeable and avoid strife and even to avoid years of heartbreak ahead. But that is true obedience to the Lord. Thank you for your vulnerability in sharing with us your incredibly hard delimma at the time, and we have kept your daughter in our prayers since. Praying for you and I am going to that website to search what they say.

    2. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

  31. Searching says:

Interesting to me is the influence and obedience we see in these Scriptures:
The band of Jews who formed a conspiracy and then told the chief priests and elders what to do “Now you, therefore, together with the council, suggest to the commander …” v 15
Paul telling the centurion to take his nephew (1st specific info on Paul’s family that I can think of (other than his heritage regarding tribe etc)) to the commander. Also notable, Paul’s nephew being allowed to enter barracks and have access to Paul.
The commander’s understanding of the unspoken need for confidentiality, having a private conversation with Paul’s nephew, who told him in v 21,  But do not yield to them (the Jewish conspiracy).
It seems to me that access to those in authority would have been restricted in some way, or that they would have routinely dismissed an unknown or disrespected person’s request or instruction, and yet,
God makes a way for His will.
    .
Psalm 40:16-17 poor and needy, that’s all of us, right? Spiritually poor in that we don’t having anything to offer God but our praise, worship, belief in Him. Spiritually needy in that we cannot save ourselves, we need God and His gift of salvation. May all accept.
    .
At HRT, Alex Florez (referring to Paul’s rescue as a result of his nephew’s message) asks “If God could do that for Paul, what miracles might He produce through the people around you?”
    .
WENDY ❤️ shared prayer, thank you!
MIA FAITH – praying for your granddaughter ❤️
CEE GEE ❤️ family member still clear of rsv, praise the Lord. Praying for staff of all skilled nursing facilities as they are always fighting the spread of something.

    1. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

Searching, I have a really good commentary on Bible background (got it for Christmas). ☺️ It had this to say about Paul’s nephew:
“If Paul’s sister was raised with him in Jerusalem, the whole family had presumably moved there from Tarsus after Paul’s birth, rather than only having sent him there to study. If she married into a similar (Roman citizen) family, Paul’s nephew would be a Roman citizen, perhaps aiding his access at Antonia. People could visit prisoners at the guard’s discretion (easier for light detentions, but sometimes facilitated with bribes).”
      .
This was interesting to me and thought it might be to you too.

    2. DW says:

I read this in a commentary as well about his nephew visiting-In those days, it was common for prisoners to be fed by their family and friends. In fact, prisoners to whom nobody brought food from the outside often starved.

I had never heard this but might help explain his access to Paul as well.
We know looking back , God had a plan and used his nephew to help get Paul out and to appear before Felix.

    3. Cee Gee says:

Praising God for protection for family member and yes continued prayers for all caregivers in these institutional settings!
      ✨✨✨
      Poor and needy…agreed! ❤
Re: your comment- I also read this as part of MacArthur’s study Bible notes:
“Since Paul was not under arrest, but merely in protective custody, he was able to receive visitors.”
Great shares, Sharon and DW! ❤

    4. Mercy says:

Poor and needy, yes count me in. “Let the poor say i am rich, let the weak say i am strong because of what the Lord has done for us..”(song share Give Thanks)

    5. Wendy B says:

      Amen❤️

  32. Susan Burley says:

Claire’s devotional really stuck with me today! I’ve been growing discontent and anxious because of my job. I even have an appointment to discuss getting on meds to help manage the anxiety! I “do such a great job” that more responsibility is piling on daily. I will continue to trust that God can use me where I am and that He will work it out for His glory.

    1. Searching says:

Praying, Susan, for relief of anxiety! Praying for the Lord’s wisdom and guidance to a solution.
Are you able to discuss that handling (or attempting to) the additional responsibilities is limiting your time available to handle your primary responsibilities? Possibly present a recap of a typical week, the time spent on primary and additional responsibilities?
Or is there a job more respectful of the truth that you are only one person?

    2. Karen Swanson says:

I see you susan. I’ve been you. Have strength and continue to press on doing all your work for the glory of god. You are being faithful in your work it will be rewarded. May I encourage you to consider speaking with your boss about your growing discontentment?

    3. Cheryl Blow says:

      Praying for you Susan!

    4. Good morning Susan – agreeing with Searching and Karen. I would try talking with someone in authority about the load that keeps being placed on you. One can only do so much! I will also be praying for wisdom as you go to your appointment. I am not by any means against medication to help with anxiety, but maybe if the issue at work was addressed by talking with someone, your load could be lightened and you won’t need it. May God give you the peace and wisdom you need. ❤️
Sharing just a few verses that I have run to many times that have comforted and helped me…
Philippians 4:6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
      .
1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
      .
John 14:27, ” Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
      .
      Praying for you today.

  33. Kimberly says:

In (2 Corinthians 4:8–12) Paul writes to us one of the most honest descriptions of Christian endurance:
    .
    Pressed but not crushed
    Perplexed but not in despair
    Persecuted but not abandoned
    .
It helps us see what Acts looks like from the inside out:
    .
Acts shows the events; Corinthians shows the heart
    .
Paul’s life is fragile, but God’s life in him is not
    .
Paul understands his suffering as part of how God brings life to others.
    .
So God doesn’t just rescue us from suffering—He sometimes works through it to bring life.
    .
    So… do we see God?
    .
Yes—but not as the absence of trouble.
    .
    We see God:
    .
In protection that doesn’t erase danger
In endurance that doesn’t deny pain
In faith that trusts even while waiting
In life emerging where death seems close
God is present in the faithfulness, not the ease.

    5. Kira H. says:

Thank you, Kimberly! The comparison of Acts to Corinthians struck me as I was reading, but I am so appreciative of the beautiful way in which you were able to express it.

  34. Brandi says:

Father, help me be faithful in the “this” today. Doing all things for Your glory not my own!

  35. Aimee D-R says:

    Amen

  36. Kelly (NEO) says:

What’s so shocking to me is that 40 men with murder in their hearts went to the religious leadership with their plans and were encouraged to proceed instead of being rebuked for their evil. It is as though once the leaders had been successful in getting Jesus killed twenty years (or so) earlier, they had a “blood thirst” that became their solution for removing any “opposition.” Their love of power fed their hate of righteousness.

    1. Susan Burley says:

      What a profound thought!!

    2. Maria B says:

I didn’t think of that. Thank you for this insight.

    3. Mollie says:

Oh yes so true, great insight!

    4. Cee Gee says:

Truth, Kelly!!! “Brood of vipers” came to mind! This note on Matthew 12:3-4 was in Enduring Word Study Bible notes:
Brood of vipers! Jesus called the religious leaders sons of Satan. They were a generation associated with the serpent, not with God. It was this evil nature that made them speak evil of Jesus.

  37. Tami says:

GM ladies. Here is our ever growing list. May the scales be removed from their eyes. If anyone wants to add to the list, leave the name/s in the comments under my name. Have a blessed day!
Acts 2:39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

Acts 26:18:… open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me.

Jeremiah 31:16-17  But now this is what the Lord says: “Do not weep any longer, for I will reward you,” says the Lord. “Your children will come back to you from the distant land of the enemy.17 There is hope for your future,” says the Lord.“Your children will come again to their own land.”

    2. Laura says:

Thank you for this list! Please add my children: Jordan and Taliah

      1. Rhonda J. says:

Laura, You and your daughter were heavy on my mind yesterday, and where she is on her walk. There was the subject that you dealt with years ago that was of quite debate that was brought up in our service. I have to say I was not happy with my pastor’s answer. I still think you were correct in honoring the Lord rather than today’s culture.

        1. Laura says:

Rhonda, how humbling to know that you were thinking of my daughter yesterday! And to know that Lynne is still praying for Taliah and Jordan, gosh, my heart is touched beyond measure! It is truly amazing what God has done in our family since Taliah rejoined our family. Although she is not walking with the Lord (which is why she is still on the prodigal list), we are rejoicing in having her back with our family in every aspect. She is dating a very nice boy and we hope that they will marry someday. He also is not a believer and had no upbringing in faith at all. BUT, the relationship she has with her sister (who IS following the Lord) is beautiful. They were never really close growing up and now they are closer than ever! And she calls me almost every day now and says I love you every time she sees both me and her dad. It’s a true 180 in attitude.

I do believe that God gave us the strength to be strong and not bend when it came to our daughter’s former homosexual lifestyle. We stood on Biblical truth and had to lose our daughter in order to hope to gain her soul. Now that she is back with us, and we do our best to model lives fully following Christ, the life that she was brought up in, we can be sure of this: we did not tarnish our witness of upholding the truth of the Bible by caving to the “love” of the world. And I believe our daughter sees that and recognizes it. There is no more anger towards us, just love and appreciation. No more hateful words, but I love you mom and dad. We continue to pray for a break-through in her faith and trust God to open that door in His timing.

Thank you for not forgetting her. May she have a powerful witness one day to others, if God so chooses.

          1. K:) says:

            Amen and Amen!

  39. Tina says:

Good morning my precious SRT sisters!
    .
I think I would rather be the ‘nameless’ person doing Gods work.
I truly would like to believe that as I go through my day, I do do God’s work, knowingly or not, because He is so in me that my actions are of Him, without a need for accolades or praise.
From the moment I leave my house, my good mornings to the people going by, to opening a door for another, to asking “can I help you” and responding, to stopping a while to talk with and perhaps buy a coffee for one disadvantaged.. to the smallest thing of a smile..
    .
Lord, may I be the unnamed, unmarked, unknown child of yours, bringing your Hope through my actions, not for any recognition, But for your Glory.
    .
    Amen.
    .
    Happy Monday my loves!❤️

    1. Sally B. says:

Amen, Tina! May we seek to be God’s hands and feet in our minor daily actions. (Unlike our devotion writer – being whisked away in the dead of night from a murderous mob is not something I’m hoping for!!:)

    2. Andrea P says:

      Beautifully said! ❤️

    3. Tami says:

Yes, even in our smallest interactions. Joyce Meyer has said that she prays daily for the Lord to show her 3 people to encourage.

    4. Danielle B says:

Yes Tina, may God use us throughout our day to bless those around us. May we do so to bring Him the honor and glory.

This was a great devotional. I really had hardly any passing thoughts about Paul’s nephew. There are so many silent heros in the Bible. I pray that some of my mundane makes an impact as well.

      Amen Julia.. Amen!❤️
