In this reading plan, we are learning more about God by studying the names given to Him in Scripture. Each day, you’ll come here to read the description of the name we’re studying today and a brief explanation of how God’s character is seen through His name. (Remember that because the Bible was originally written in Hebrew and Greek, some of God’s names are written in the English form of His name from their original language.) You can then head to today’s passages to see how this name functions in Scripture.
SPIRIT: The non-incarnate, or non-physical, presence of God on earth
The Old Testament contains many references to ruach, the “Spirit” of the Lord, which was one of the ways God’s presence manifested on earth. The New Testament uses pneuma for the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity.
In John 4, Jesus told the woman at the well that God is spirit. He was referring to the time, which has now come, when the Spirit of the Lord would no longer reside in temples built by human hands. Instead, the Holy Spirit dwells inside those who believe in Jesus.

Thank you Jesus for sending the Holy Spring to be my helper in this day where so many ways of the world try to appear as truth.
♥️
It’s comforting to know I don’t walk alone. The Spirit is my constant helper and reminder of truth.
❤✝️ Amen
Thank you Lord for your plans that are always good and sending us a helper in Your Spirit. Help us always listen to Him and allow Him to guide us rather than our flesh. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Hello Shes
I want to “go secular” on you for a moment, as this is how my mind works. Soul sister/singer Aretha recorded a song titled “Spirit In The Dark” back in the 80s.
“I-I’m gettin’ the spirit in the dark
(um-hum-hum)
I’m gettin’ the spirit in the dark
(Um-hum-hum)
People movin’ oh and they groovin’
Just gettin’ the spirit
(Um-hum-hum) in the dark
Tell me sister how do ya feel?
Tell me my brother-brother-brother
How do you feel?
A do you feel like dancin?
Get up and let’s start dancin’
Start gettin’ the spirit
(Start gettin’ in the spirit)
Spirit in the dark
(In the dark)”
Hey, the inchoate presence of the Holy One can make you break out in dance & song. In old style Baptist church’s they called it “getting happy”!
OK, now back to our regularly scheduled SRT devotion & conversation!!
❤️
Happy Tuesday she’s. It’s Canada Day today and I had a good sleep in day. I went to my garden and cut some roses to put on a teacup, placed next to my Bible. I made some coffee and …well it is such a comfort and happy place for me. The vision of the dry Bones and the commandment to prophesy them back to life is powerful. Something I will ponder and practice today. We will head to splash park soon. Praying you have a lovely day. Be blessed dear sisters.
❤️
Thank God for His Spirit! Thank God that we can cry out to Him. I backtracked over everything I did this am. I went to a water class. I had put it in my bag with my towel etc. It’s 99 percent of the time in my purse. So when I didn’t see it, I panicked. Praise God that He cares about what concerns us♥️
Wow praise God you found it. Water class sounds amazing.
Glad you found it. God knew it was safe and sound.
♥️♥️♥️
Praise the Lord you found it!
Amen and thank you♥️
Help! I am in desperate need of prayer. I went to the store yesterday afternoon. I used my debit card. This morning I was going to buy something and I can’t find my wallet. I did call the store. So far nothing has been turned in. Please pray that I find it. My drivers license, insurance cards etc are in it.
Oh no, may it come back to you! And fast!
It did! Thank you♥️
I forgot to add, Happy Canada Day to our Canadian sisters. God, keep our land❤️
‘He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.’ Psalm 72:8
Amen❤️
Oh She’s, your comments, these songs , and most importantly these scriptures are so powerful.
May we all soak it in, understand, and retain(I have old brain too, lol).
‘God, create a clean heart for me
and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore the joy of your salvation to me, and sustain me by giving me a willing spirit. Then I will teach the rebellious your ways, and sinners will return to you.’ Psalm 51:10-13
This is a daily prayer. Thank you Lord for the presence of Holy Spirit. May my heart be open, ready and willing to be moved, guided and lead in your ways.
Yes, that’s a good one for a daily prayer! Thank you, I will put it in my class notes on prayer!
❤️
V26 in the NIV version reads: The Advocate. It brought me back to last Monday when I went to court. And “advocate” from Women’s Haven accompanied me. The Haven made an exception this time around as there’s already a restraining order in place and I was going to court for a different reason but because I was a previous client, someone came with me. We have the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to guide us, comfort us reassure us our Jesus will always be with us and to remind us we do not walk this life alone! and that’s how it felt when the advocate from Haven came with me initially eight years ago when initially finally leaned for the restraining order. I thought I could not breathe, I was shaking, and the advocate had to remind me to “take a deep breath“ she was such a comfort! My Jesus, is everything to me! He gives me the Holy Spirit to guide me and even pray for me when I can’t and I couldn’t during that time. I am not that person anymore and it’s all Jesus!
❤️Beautiful analogy
That is so good Mari V, thank you for sharing! It really makes it relatable for us.
Psalm 51:10-13
~
God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore the joy of your salvation to me, and sustain me by giving me a willing spirit. Then I will teach the rebellious your ways, and sinners will return to you.
~
I underlined “Restore the joy of your salvation to me, and sustain me by giving me a willing spirit.” A prayer for every new day we are given.
~
John 14:26 But the counselor, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and REMIND you of all I have told you.
~
My old brain needs this reminder.
❤️We were thinking along the same lines :)
I love the takeaway I just heard from the Podcast. In John, where Jesus promises “I will send another counselor”, He (Jesus) is the first counselor! It was prophesied in Isaiah that his name would be “wonderful counselor”!
A song that I hear in my mind when the Ezekiel verses are read about the valley of the dry bones. Come Alive (dry bones) by Lauren Daigle:
Through the eyes of men, it seems there’s so much we have lost
As we look down the road where all the prodigals have walked
One by one, the enemy has whispered lies
And led them off as slaves
But we know that You are God, Yours is the victory
We know there is more to come
That we may not yet see
So with the faith You’ve given us
We’ll step into the valley unafraid, yeah
As we call out to dry bones, come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts, come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes, let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones, come alive
God of endless mercy, god of unrelenting love
Rescue every daughter, bring us back the wayward son
And by Your spirit, breathe upon them, show the world that You alone can save
You alone can save
As we call out to dry bones, come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts, come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes, let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones, come alive
So breathe, oh, breath of God
Now breathe, oh, breath of God
Breathe, oh, breath of God, now breathe
Breathe, oh, breath of God
Now breathe, oh, breath of God
Breathe, oh, breath of God, now breathe
As we call out to dry bones, come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts, come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes, let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones, come alive
We call out to dry bones, come alive
Oh, come alive
Have a happy Tuesday, ya’ll!
I don’t remember that one!
I think of House of Miracles
and Rattle, both by Brandon Lake/Elevation!
Love that song! Lauren Daigle is my daughter’s favorite we always have her music on when she goes to bed!
God giving us a new heart ❤️. It convicts, guides, directs, and protects us. We are not to quench the Spirit.
Psalms 51 is one that I pray almost every day! So thankful that God can cause a valley of dry bones to live again just by His breath, Spirit of the living God!
Love this old song! Thank you for reminding me of it!
I love how the name of the spirit in the OT is ‘ruach’ which when pronounced sounds like roaring. The same sound as roaring wind.
Which the Spirit is the wind.
GM!
I don’t know that I would have thought “Spirit” as a “name of God.” As in praying- Spirit, as my title of God. But the scripture is as clear in the OT as in the New. The Spirit is throughout, has been, and is now. We know as believers the Spirit comes in to dwell in us, we have that knowledge, promise, and assurance. Blessed assurance. Spirit, be with me and lead me daily. You are my power source, my counselor, my truth.
I am praying that my nephew gets released today from jail. Lord may he review what is important in life, and prioritize and focus on his daughter and leave bad relationships behind.
Praying for your nephew!
Same Rhonda. I didn’t think of Spirit as a name.
Praying with you that your nephew will be released from jail!!
God is Spirit – He is ever-present, life-giving, and relational. He is not far off or bound by physical forms—He is near, inside, renewing, and empowering you. His Spirit brings new life (Ezekiel), transforms hearts (Psalm 51), teaches truth (John 14), and builds a global, inclusive church (Acts).
Yes, Kimberly!
As invisible & life sustaining as the air we breathe!
I will place My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My statutes and carefully observe my ordinances.
What a treasure I have in this wonderful peace,
Buried deep in the heart of my soul,
So secure that no power can mine it away,
While the years of eternity roll!
.
Peace, peace, wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray
In fathomless billows of love!
(From the hymn Wonderful Peace)
—
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
.
There is nothing that can compare to the peace God gives us. Peace through His presence. Peace that is unlike anything the world can offer.
.
When everything in this world seems to have gone awry, we can still have peace because the One who is our peace lives within us…do not let your heart be troubled. Do not be afraid.
—
May the peace of God rule in each of our hearts today. Shalom, shalom. ❤️
That old hymn is one of my favorites! Thanks for sharing it this morning.
Holy Spirit, You are welcome here!
Come flood this place
and fill the atmosphere!
Your glory God
Is what our hearts long for
To be overcome
By Your presence, Lord!
❤️
That song was in my head too after the readings!
“Come flood this place
and fill the atmosphere!”
That’s beautiful Erica!
Holy Spirit I welcome You to guide, direct be active in my life.
“G-d is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth.” John 4:24
God meets us in our humanity in the person of Jesus Christ.
This is how we meet God when we worship.Man is a triune being: spirit, soul, and body.We connect to Him through our God through our spirit. G-d meeting man and man meeting G-d. This is where G-d downloads his files and speaks to us! The Creator and Created in fellowship. G-d wired us for worship. We he brought us out of Egypt it was to go into the wilderness to worship.
This is an Atomic verse for me.
Random: I was reading a different translation of Genesis 1:2 “And this earth was once confused and tangled and darkness was over turmoil, and the Breath of G-d hovered over the waters.”
This is the Ruach Elohim.
That we should be When. I type on my phone.
In a rather dry bones place in my life at this time, my prayer is most certainly Ps 51:10-13. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me. Amen.
Amen. I believe we need a daily reminder to be changed and live for God.
Agree
Praying that God will bring you out of this spiritual dry spell, dear sister.
Praying for you today JMH. ❤️
Thank you all. I am one of those usually silent but always reading and praying sisters ❤️
Ez 36:27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

John 14:16-17 Jesus’ words
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
