The passage that spoke out most to me was 14:1. That was ME 5 years ago. I became friends with a woman at work who was a very strong Christian. She didn't love me any different, she just loved me. She didn't shove religion down my throat, she invited me to share my life story. She invited me to chruch and was patient with the holy spirit. It just reminds me, what we are all ultimately God's children, regardless of anything else. Thus, it reminds me to come from a heart of warmth, acceptance, and respect for people. "Remember they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently." I love it, for so many reasons.
Thanks Mish for your insight in your initial post. Letting go of what we think others think of us – I really needed to hear that today. This is the second time I’ve read Soul Detox with SRT. The first time, I got so much out of it; I honestly wondered what would be the point of re-reading it. Since I wanted to stay connected with SRT, I started the plan anyway & prayed that God would show me “whatever it is He wanted me to know.” I soon learned that this is a plan meant to be re-visited, even when you aren’t sure what the reason may be.
I am being led through a season of pruning. It has been painful & may continue to be but I am learning to trust in my Father, the ultimate gardener, more than ever. He is shaping me & I am finally willing to see how the only way to truly LIVE is to put my faith solely in Him. I can finally see how the pain of His pruning in my life is going to shape me into a beautiful life-giving tree. I’ve spent far too long agreeing with the toxic pain of putting my faith in man. I see now how my hurting caused me to hurt others, to be the toxic person in so many relationships & to internalize the toxicity of others. I made these choices. I still struggle with them today. But now I know clearly that my one source of life, love, strength, hope, grace, & forgiveness lies with God.
I will always need His grace to manage the toxic relationships in my life as well as my toxic tendencies. But as Mish said – when we allow God to strip away our tendency to fester on what we think others think and what we see others say & do to try to affect us – and simply stand up in our own selves, with all faith in God; this is truly living. Thank you Lord.
Well said Lauren. I too feel I'm in a season of pruning. It is difficult for me to let go of what is so very comfortable. Whether it be self pruning or external relationship pruning I find it difficult. This study and the insights from everyone here with SRT has helped me trust in the Lord and simply follow the prompts of the Holy Spirit. I find myself looking forward to all of my tomorrow's just to see what our Lord has in mind for my walk with Him! So happy to be walking with all the wonderful women here!!
I always get here when everyone has commented and moved on lol but I digress, I loved the Soul Detox devo. Today’s reading teaches me not to label some certain things holy and other unholy. For me, it’s not about food, it’s about clothing, music, movies. I’m learning not to bash people in because they don’t share the exact views I have concerning these things.
“Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do. And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with—even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department. Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently.” Romans 14:1 (MSG)
After reading a powerful verse like that, I don’t think I want to be the reason another person’s faith is jeopardised.
Can’t wait to do another study with y’all. Blessings!
God bless all if you ladies of the SRT community! Reading your posts have given me such insight! Until next time.
This is my first SRT Bible study. It was so refreshing reading all of your posts. I can’t wait to start the next one! I have learned so much
Halee-
Welcome to the SRT community! Thank you for sharing!
I have always loved SRT but have to admit I haven't followed it as much since it's swtiched over to the linked reading. For some reason I can't changed the version in the filter option…is it just me? Any advice on what I may be doing wrong? Thanks!!!

I just wanted to add that I feel like SRT is something that is and has changed my life. I'm so incredibly grateful that God aligned you ladies into this movement. may you keep going with grace, insight and love with this. So excited about the testimonies, and so excited about what it all becomes. xo
This is the third time I have completed the Soul Detox plan but definitely the most insightful thanks to all of you. I love the part of the scripture today, "Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall." From the New Living Translation. I have decided I have my hands full making sure that when I stand before HIM and give MY personal account that I am pure and holy….who am I to judge another? And when in the world would I have time?!
God bless you all, looking forward to the next study!
Love this passage of scripture about not judging others! Such a good & powerful reminder to me.
And I MUST concur with what many of you other ladies have already said–that you feel so thankful and blessed to have gone through this devotional together. I’m also thankful for all the other perspectives and insights brought to the table. It’s just been wonderful!! Thank you, ladies!
Looking forward to doing another devotional with y’all! Have a blessed, blessed day, my sisters!
I've found that when I spend more time contemplating ME & how I feel & what I like & what makes ME happy… the less loving & considerate I am to others. When I become less egocentric & more thankful to God for all HE blesses me with (whether good or bad from my viewpoint) I am less "toxic" to those He's placed in my path.
Today I take with me verse 22 — "So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves."
Yes and amen Cynthia. Our part as believers is to have healthy boundaries, letting the good stuff in and keeping the bad stuff out. For me internal boundaries are the bigger challenge — not internalizing someone else’s toxic behavior, or playing old toxic “tapes” in my own head. That’s where scripture comes in, by the way!
For more from a Christian perspective, read Boundaries by Drs. Henry Cloud and Jihn Townsend. Codependent No More by Melody Beatty (alrhough not overtly Christian) is also a classic.
One more thing: I think most American churches actually encourage poor boundaries–the do more, attend more, get involved more model I mean.
this passage to me showed the importance of JESUS vs “religion” in our churches, homes, and everyday personal lives.
depending on how you were raised, maybe you can relate to thinking that thinks like pants on women and songs not found in the hymn book were actual SINS, when in reality they are preferences…and just like this passage points out, everyone is allowed to have their own preferences, for that is not what religion is based on! Our religion should BE Jesus! End of story!
At the end of the day, we will all give account to Jesus for how we have lived our lives, but we won’t give account for ANY.ONE.ELSE. So…why waste time judging and worrying about them when we have enough to worry about in our own lives.
I wanna choose Jesus! not “religion”!
What has really struck me this week between this reading plan and reading some in Matthew 7 is that its not my place to judge others. Judging other and claiming to be able to "take the speck out of their eye" makes me toxic to relationships. I need to remember that God is the judge, not me. If I truly believe someone is wrong in an area we disagree on, I have the privilege of taking it to God in prayer, privately, and leaving it (and my judgmental attitude) with Him.
Amen ladies this reading reminds me of a song ”
…its not my brother or my sister but me standing in the need of prayer”. Opinions desperate, and are fleshy desires, I get now that correction comes from God and my opinions are toxic. Thanks God for truth and thanks ladies. Your words and prayers that I’m sure we say for one another have helped me grow from a hurt person feeling sorry for myself to a deeper level of faith and joy. I have hope its a beautiful hope that’s setting me free!!
What are some things you can do to build healthier relationships in your life?
Be more AWARE. This plan has certainly been an eye opener on many levels, and I’m so thankful for all the posts and comments that brought different perspectives to the table. Ladies, you rock! What I wouldn’t give to meet all of you and have this study and fellowship with y’all ! It has been a game
changer, and has given me pause to look at things
in a different light. Only when we step out of our comfort zone can we learn and change, so I thank you for your patience as I worked out some issues a bit more publicly than what I usually would have.
I appreciate all the lessons learned from your personal stories, and the prayers you’ve sent my way!
I’ve got work to do yet, but now I HAVE the tools and the knowledge to get it done…
Have a wonderfully Blessed Day Sisters!
See you at the next study :)
Yeah I got it Ellen. I hope this is it :). Missed you ;)
This has been an amazing and eye opening study. So thankful.
this is the verse that jumped out at me:
Romans 14:17 NIV
"For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,"
that's what I want ot strive for. I know that there have been times that ni my pain, I have hurt others. I have also tended to isolate myself and not engage with people. I think to build healthy relationships, I need to engage more with other women in environments where i know I can build healthy relationships; for example, church. I don't engage as much with people there as I could because I either feel inferior because of my blindness or feel they may not want to takl to me on an equal footing. but that's my own perception and not necessarily based on truth. I am really trying to get better at this one.
Thank you for your insight jesusgirl71! I, too, sometimes feel inferior to other women because of my own "differences." I have ADHD (inattentive type) and experience sensory processing problems along with some other stuff that come along for the ride. In my mind, seems to be a glaring gap between me and the others that I meet in person. I fail to communicate things in a linear way when I am passionate about a subject, and can lead my listeners on a verbal "wild goose chase" just to make my point. And goodness! If it's a noisy, busy atmosphere, and I have a seam in my shirt scratching at me? Forget about it! I'm lost and shut down.
Just two weeks ago at church, I broke down crying when I went to pick up my daughter from children's church WHILE I was having a conversation with another mom whom I'm trying to get to know. The kids were running around in there, squealing and happy, and I kept looking around to try to find my daughter while she was talking to me. How embarrassed that I couldn't seem to keep it together. But God bless her! She made me feel so comfortable to just be me and cried along with me. Lol!
That's why I love this platform to study together. It is wayyyyy more manageable for me than face-to-face contact ..but of course, we all have our stuff, and someone will always see the value in what we have to offer as long as we are open to it. Blessings!
Junebug, thanks for the reminder that I am not the only one here with a disability. yes, that's exactly how I feel, like there is a gap, but I find if I reach out people will respond to me. so awesome that women made yhou feel comfortable and valued!
I too have hurt others in my past.. I asked those whom I hurt to plz forgive me. They haven't as of now. But I am content upon waiting. I know my actions causes a ripple affect with my relationships and realize that every choice I make comes with a consequence whether it is good or bad. And I also pray for those that don't forgive for those will now and in future need forgiveness whether it be from GOD or humans. Please don't hold a grudge it only keeps one from receiving GOD' mercy and a everlasting life…
What jumped out at me in today's reading was my beliefs are just that. I don't need to make others beliefs right or wrong or I may be toxic to them and keep them from having their own relationship with Christ!!! It's not up to me to decide what is right or wrong for others ….. I need to focus on being what God wants me to be. And doing what God wants me to do. I have always been a follower not a leader… so I wonder when I got the idea that I could lead? I thought I was humble and caring but this reading plan has opened my eyes to realize I may be toxic to others without even realizing it. I thank the God for all the insight you ladies have shared in helping me to better understand what I need to work on in pleasing him! I pray that we all may continue on in learning to love and be loved in non toxic relationships!
I think the moment that we cast away what we think others think we should be…and be who we are with our own faith..is that moment we surrender and connect deeper. At least, it is for me. It's not easy, but it's so much more rewarding! Good luck :)
i am so grateful to have shared the soul detox reading plan with you ladies. thank you for all of your insights. i continue to pray that the Lord will cleanse my soul, and that the peace of Christ with rule in my heart.
What are some things you can to do to build healthier relationships in your life?
I believe I have worked harder than I ever have especially over the past two years to set boundaries and establish healthy relationships. I make an effort to make sure that I have a voice in my relationships; I also concentrate and take that extra step to make sure that I am listening to others.
This has made a big difference! Making sure that I am heard has relieved a lot of stress and frustration that I use to experience. I would hold feelings in and allow others to cut me off during conversations. This definitely opened me up to some dark areas in my life.
I found that not having a voice or not being heard led to states of depression; causing me to isolate myself and be removed from accountability partners. Isolation is a lonely place and it will force you to allow individuals in your life that may lead you to areas you would not otherwise go, prey upon your good nature or take advantage of your vulnerability.
I thank God for these past two years. They have taught me how to depend on God like never before. I now have an obligation to strengthen others, comfort brothers and sister with the same comfort which I received, and restore those that may have fallen away back with the spirit of gentleness. Amen.
Thank you for sharing such personal insights. I too am asking The Lord for more grace in relationships, and the opportunity to be heard. to speak truth in love. what are some of the verses The Lord has given you in your walk with him?
