In this reading plan, we are learning more about God by studying the names given to Him in Scripture. Each day, you’ll come here to read the description of the name we’re studying today and a brief explanation of how God’s character is seen through His name. (Remember that because the Bible was originally written in Hebrew and Greek, some of God’s names are written in the English form of His name from their original language.) You can then head to today’s passages to see how this name functions in Scripture.
MESSIAH: God’s chosen and anointed one
The Hebrew word mashiach, or “messiah,” was used to refer to the promised savior of God’s people. The word mashiach was translated into the Greek as christos, which is brought into English as Christ. Messiah and Christ are two titles that describe Jesus as the anointed, or chosen, one of Israel.
The word mashiach was used to describe someone who was anointed for a particular calling. In Scripture, people called to serve as prophets, priests, and kings were anointed with oil to ceremonially set them apart for their particular work. Jesus perfectly fulfilled all three of these roles for His people through His life, death, and resurrection. He is the chosen and anointed one who perfectly fulfilled His calling as the savior of God’s people.

Jesus Messiah! Lord of All! You came in lowly state, to be one of us and with us. You came to seek and save! You experienced the emotions we do on the daily basis. You were mocked beaten and crucified. You rose and now at God’s right hand!
Thank you Jesus!
The Messiah is not just a title, it’s God’s answer to the world’s deepest need. In Jesus, we find the Savior, King, and hope that Scripture promised ❤️

Hello from Australia! I’m trying to start and get back into the habit of daily Bible reading, would genuinely appreciate prayer as I do this. Many years ago I was once very close to God, but since suffering through a divorce and other challenges in my life I have drifted. It’s difficult getting back to it, but I want to cling to Jesus and not continue to be drifted away.
Chelsea, hi!!! You are in the right place, sister! I was once where you are and these sisters in this community have blessed me immensely. Please stay at it with us and we will pray for you and with you! ❤ You will get to know everyone in the comments- very encouraging!
Welcome, we are glad to have you here! I found SRT over a decade ago, and have missed very few days since! It is a rich community of “women in the Word!”
Welcome Chelsea! This is a great place to start! This is a loving community and there are great studies in the Word! ❤️

I BELIEVE
From the beginning
You’ve been unchanging
Age to age You stay
Constant You remain
Every mystery
The questions I’ve carried
Are safe within Your will
So I trust You even still
I believe You are who You say You are
You do what You say You’ll do
You’ll come through, You are always able
I believe You’ve already made a way
So I’m running through parted waves
Straight to You, You are always faithful
Jesus, You’re for me
Holding me steady (every word)
Every word You speak
Is a promise that You keep
This firm foundation (cannot be shaken)
Cannot be shaken (oh, oh, oh)
My God, You never fail
Never once, You never will
I believe You are who You say You are
You do what You say You’ll do (You’ll come through)
You’ll come through, You are always able
I believe (yes) You’ve already made a way (so I’m running)
(Yeah) so I’m running through parted waves (straight to You)
Straight to You, You are always faithful
I believe (yes, in the Mighty name of Jesus), I believe (oh, oh)
That on that cross Your blood was spilled
And by Your stripes I have been healed
And every promise You’ve fulfilled
I believe, I believe
That You rose again in victory
And that same power lives in me
I’m born again, I’ve been made free (yes)
I believe (I believe), I believe (oh, oh)
That the gates of hell will not prevail
Your church is still alive and well
This gospel truth I live to tell
I believe (yes), I believe (that one day)
That one day soon You’ll split the sky
You’re coming for a spotless bride
Until my faith has been made sight
I believe, I believe
I believe (You are) You are who You say You are
(You do what You say) You do what You say You’ll do
(You’ll come through) You’ll come through, You are always able
I believe (You’ve already) You’ve already made a way
(So I’m running) so I’m running through parted waves
Straight to You, You are always faithful
I believe (in the gospel of Jesus Christ), I believe
And on that day, I’ve run my race
I’ll finally see You face to face
And nothing then will separate
I believe, I believe
I’ll join with every tribe and tongue
And bow before the Lamb of God
Singing Holy, Holy, Holy One
I believe, I believe

In Judaism, there are two concepts of the Messiah.
Moshiach ben Joseph and Moshiach ben David.
Moshiach ben Joseph is the Messiah as a suffering servant. Jesus came in the first advent as the suffering servant.
Moshiach ben David is the Messiah as the conquering hero. The Messiah who shows up on the white horse and saves us! Jesus’s second advent, He will return as the conquering king.
” I believe in the Messiah, and though He carries, yet will I wait for Him.” 13 Articles of the Jewish Faith Maimonides.
I ask that you all pray for the Jewish that G-d would up open their eyes to see the one and true Mosiach; Jesus. Pray also for the peace of Jerusalem.
Praying for all Jews, that their eyes will be opened, and peace for Jerusalem.
Wow I love that, and joining in prayers.
Tarries not carries
Praying alongside you!
Yesterday I heard that 3 polyps were precancerous. Thankfully they were removed. I’m not going to sugar coat it; that news made me very nervous. Thank you again for the prayers.
Oh Traci…..praying for YOU! Yes, thanking God with you that they were removed!! Praying for peace and know that you are covered in prayer by all-of-us.
Prayers for peace. May God minister to your heart. ❤️
Praise God you got that colonoscopy out of the way without delaying any longer. May your heart focus on the ‘PRE’ prefix and feel peace. When I worked for a gastroenterologist I overhead the nurse reassuring patients who had Adenomatous polyps removed: 3-5 years for cancer to develop- so you should be okay with recommended schedule of follow up schedule. Hugs, sister! Rejoicing for this protection! ❤
Thank you CeeGee. A friends husband is a doctor and said the same. That it can take even 10 years. I eat so healthy and have worked out for 43 years. I think it had to have been from stress.
Mine were hereditary. I have always paid attention to diet and had regular workouts, too, but that gene was there. So thankful your outcome was so good! ❤
Covering you in prayers sister. Hugs.
Traci, I’ve been trying to send this message for a couple of hours..know that I am praying peace over you that the removal of polps is the end of it, and that there is nothing to worry about..
BUT GOD..
Right?
Much love, dear heart..❤️
Traci, years ago my mother had a colonoscopy polyp that came back cancerous. We went to surgeon to discuss surgery, we met with oncologist to discuss options. She needed a second colonoscopy so the doctor could tattoo the area. She had her second colonoscopy on Christmas Eve. NOTHING was found. She had to have colonoscopies every year for a few years and she never had a cancerous polyp again. Praying for you.
Knowing Jesus as Messiah reminds us that God does not leave us in our brokenness. He anoints and sends a Savior. And this Savior didn’t just come to rescue Israel from Roman rule—He came to rescue us from sin, death, and spiritual separation.
For those who’ve been let down by leaders, religion, or even life itself, the Messiah is a promise that God came for you. Not to condemn, but to restore. Not to overpower, but to save. His mission was always about love. Even when the world feels unstable, the Messiah stands firm. And when you feel like no one sees or chooses you, remember this: God anointed Jesus to choose you.
“Even when the world feels unstable, the Messiah stands firm.”
Yes, Ashley, Oh My how we need Jesus!
❤
Can someone give insight to Psalm 2:1-3 and why it’s included in this group of scriptures today?
The psalmist speaks of “the Lord and His anointed one”. A foreshadowing of the Messiah.
@Gwineth52 Thank you for responding
What stood out to me today:
Isaiah 61:10-11 NLT
I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!
For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation
and draped me in a robe of righteousness.
I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding
or a bride with her jewels.
11 The Sovereign Lord will show his justice to the nations of the world.
Everyone will praise him!
His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring,
with plants springing up everywhere.

Matthew 16:18 (from Warren Wiersbe)
“This is the first occurrence of the important word “church” in the New Testament. It is the Greek word ekklesia (ek–klay–SEE–uh), from which we get our English word “ecclesiastical,” referring to things that pertain to the church. The literal meaning is “a called-out assembly.” The word is used 114 times in the New Testament, and in ninety of these references, a local church (assembly) is in view. In this first use of ekklesia, however, Jesus likely had the whole church in mind. He was not just building a local assembly but a universal church composed of all who make the same confession of faith that Peter made.
The gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” In Scripture, “gates” represent authority and power. The city gate was to a Jew what city hall is to people in the Western world. Important business was transacted at the city gate (Deut. 21:19; 25:7; Ruth 4:11). “The gates of Hades,” then, would symbolize the organized power of death and Satan. By His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ would conquer death, so that death would not be able to hold any of His people. Christ would storm the gates and deliver the captives! This declaration certainly is verified by 1 Corinthians 15:50–57, Hebrews 2:14, 15, and other Scriptures.”

Dear Shes
As we navigate the events of life & show our face to the world, who do we say He is? And who do we tell?
I believe you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who comes into the world. Jn 11:27
♥️
Our Messiah, Savior, Redeemer and precious Lord. Thank you Lord for making the way to rescue us, to forgive and bring hope. Thank you that you are our Messiah. We lift our hands in praise, kneel before you in humble thanks, sit at your feet, and fix our eyes on you. We love you Lord. Amen.

Jesus Messiah by Chris Tomlin
He became sin
Who knew no sin
That we might become His Righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross
Love so amazing
Love so amazing
Name above all names
Blessed Redeemer
Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners
The ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah
Lord of all
His body the bread
His blood the wine
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled
And the veil was torn
Love so amazing
Love so amazing, yeah
Grateful for the Messiah that made it possible for us to be a child of God and to live eternally in His Kingdom forever and ever. But, also, to do life differently. We have his grace and mercy that gives us the light. We are new creations, set apart, for his glory. To be his hands and feet, the light of the world, in him and through him! What a gift and blessing. Why do we take it so lightly? He is bigger than all of our problems and giants that we face. Though seasons of life are hard and heartbreaking, we know that this life is temporary, keeping our eyes fixed on the eternal. We have a Savior, Messiah, that came and will come again soon.
Amen

Good morning, She’s. I’m in need of an army of prayer warriors to lift up my cousin Sherrie. She’s a breast cancer survivor but it returned elsewhere in her body recently and she’s been going through chemo again. This week they found spots on her brain that the chemo can’t reach, so they’ll have to pause the chemo to do radiation therapy. They have her on dementia drugs to keep the brain swelling down. She’s in a lot of pain and things are not looking good. We’re praying for a miracle…but mostly that God’s will be done and that she feel his presence through all of this.
Lifting her up to our God of Miracles and God of all comfort who gives us strength and whose grace is sufficient – may His will be done and may He speak clearly to His daughter on how and who to fight.
Anna, I’m so sorry to hear your cousin is battling cancer! It’s such a horrible disease. I will be praying for Sherrie!!
Praying for Sherrie
Praying with you Anna that Sherrie will feel God’s presence over her.
Praying for Sherrie
Praying for your cousin, Sherrie, that God would bring healing to her body. Also for the peace of God to fill her with His presence.
Dear Anna
I pray Sherri finds more peace & less pain in His presence.
Anna, lifting your cousin Sherrie up to our Father God, prayerful His presence is a tangible thing and that she can feel His peace. I also pray for her headaches to go in the name of YHWH.( I learnt the other day that the true way to say YHWH, is in the way we breathe.. I prayer Sherrie breathes Him in each moment of each day.. He is near.. will continue Anna, to hold Sherrie close in prayer..❤️
G-d you are a present help in the time of trouble. We come before you on behalf of Sherrie.Send your Holy Spirit to comfort her. You know her name, her address and what she needs from you most. Father God show up the way that only you can in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Praying for Sherrie!
Praying
Praying along with you for a miracle for Sherrie. ❤️
Anna, lifting her up now!
Praying for Sherrie that it is well.

Matthew 16:16
–
In every longing of the human heart, God has given an answer, the Messiah, Anointed One, chosen, set apart, empowered by the Spirit to fulfill God’s plan.
–
In Jesus, we meet the One anointed who:
Binds up the brokenhearted (Isaiah 61)
Reigns over the nations (Psalm 2)
Walks with us in confusion (Luke 24)
Speaks life over our dead places (John 11)
–
He is not just a promise of God, but the presence of God.
–
When we call Jesus “Messiah,” we’re not just naming a title—we are stepping into relationship with God who rescues, reigns, and restores. He’s the Savior who comes near, the Teacher who opens our eyes, and the Life who overcomes death.
