This Is the New Testament is part of a twelve-week thematic overview of the entire Bible. As we read, we’ll gain a broader understanding of the redemptive story of Scripture. Each day we’ll read a thematic selection from a different book of the Bible, along with supplemental passages that show how the theme of that day’s main reading is found throughout Scripture. We’ll also read a brief summary of each book and a reflection on how the book fits into the larger story of Scripture.
The Book of Luke: This Gospel was written by Luke, a physician and coworker of the apostle Paul. It is a detailed account of the life and ministry of Jesus. Luke placed special emphasis on Jesus’s concern for including social outsiders and seeking the lost. Luke is the longest book in the New Testament and contains many stories and teachings found only in this Gospel.
How Luke Fits Into the Story: Luke’s Gospel has a unique focus on Jesus as a friend of sinners and Savior of the world. In focusing on Jesus as the Son of Man who came to seek and save the lost, this Gospel pays close attention to how Jesus engaged with the marginalized. It also highlights His conversations with the religious leaders of the day, as well as His teachings on the nature of the kingdom of God. Luke shows how the salvation, predicted by Old Testament prophets, arrived in Jesus and is available to the whole world.
Reflection Questions:
1. How does Luke 19:1–10 clarify your understanding of Jesus’s mission on earth?
2. How does today’s reading shape your understanding of the story of redemption?
Take time to reflect on your responses and share what you are learning with others in the community in the comments.

Jesus is not for one specific type of person
I just got on board with this study. I love how the New Testament is intertwined with the Old Testament. The way the prophets in the Old Testament tell the people and in the New Testament how God Son comes in person to deliver it in person.
❤️
I’m glad I’m the one he left the 99 for.
❤️
Jesus came to save and heal the sinners/the sick. He didn’t come for the “righteous”.
He ate with them, he had compassion for them. When the sinner accepts his gift of Salvation and repents. They are made new like Christ.
❤️
Jesus’s misson on the earth was to seek and save the lost, because He doesn’t want to lose sight of us. It is so ressuring to know that God was on seeking my heart. We find redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ that was sheed for us, all because of the riches of God’s grace for us to be forgiven of all sins. It’s so beautiful that He doesn’t want heaven without me like i do not deserve a Father like that. God made us in the image of His own likeness we are more precious than rubies to Him. Jesus never intended just to get those who have commited sin and His mission was to NEVER punish the lost it was to get all of humanity to draw near to Him giving us a opportunity to accept Him into our hearts as our Lord and Savior over our lives.
Hello!
I’ve never shared in a space like this before.
This story along with the women at the well will always be with me. This is redemption, this is Jesus. Here to save the lost, to show us there is another way. A better way.
We just need to surrender. That is the part where all of our human yuck gets in the way. Nothing is to big or to small for our God!
Amen Melissa ❤️
I love the story of the Shepherd leaving the 99 to find the 1 sheep. i know I’m the 1. I’m so grateful He has saved me and forgiven me. How do I forgive myself of the mistakes/sins from my past?
Update from my discussion with the doctor: I have papillary renal cell cancer. It is a more slow growing cancer than others. So he is going to wait until next May to do another scan. Then, based on the size, will decide how to proceed. I’m so thankful that God answered prayers and it isn’t growing. Thank you all for praying for me. ❤️
God is good, Teresa!❤️ ❤️
Thankful for this update, Teresa and will continue to pray for you! ❤️
Jesus came to save all! He loves me and wants me to draw close when I’m hurting, but also when I’m rejoicing. ❤️
I feel like some people think that Jesus is just out to get those who have sinned. But his mission is NOT to punish the lost; it’s to get all of humanity to draw us near to Him and give us ample opportunity to accept Him as our Lord and Savior. He doesn’t want the recognition; He wants the relationship.
1. Jesus loves all of us, no matter our past, present, or future that we come from. My Jesus LOVES me! Our Jesus LOVES YOU!
2. That was HIS purpose! He does not want heaven without me. He does not want heaven without you.
Our last day here in San Luis Obispo. Such a beautiful beach town! Caleb, Alyssa and I have enjoyed our stay here so much! Making memories! Lots of changes coming up when we come home. Grateful for this time that we had with one another. Grateful for Jehovah Jireh for providing a way for us to come. Please pray for for safe travels on our way home. We leave early this afternoon for a 3 1/2 hour drive.
You had posted the other day, under your given name, (I think. I think I forgot that Mari was a nickname, of sorts.) Glad for your special time away. ❤️
Its always lovely to spend time together in rest with family.. prayerful you and yours got home safe!
Much love..❤️
Jesus does not want to lose one single sheep/us. It feels so good to know that He was waiting and seeking my heart. Even as I was living haphazardly. It makes me look at people and think Jesus is seeking all. It tends to soften us to know this. To not look down on others. We are all made in His image.
Amen, Traci.
Welcome back, hope you had a restful and pleasant trip!❤️
❤️
Jesus seeks everyone. There is much rejoicing in heaven when even one sinner repents!
Good point Monie!
He loves our prodigals even more than we do. ❤️
There isn’t a sinner He can’t save! God is so good. All the time!!!
I love that, Sophie, ” There isnt a sinner He cant save..” He is good!❤️
Jesus summed it on with His own words in Luke 19:10-
He came “to seek and to save the lost.”
.
What was once available only to the Jews (salvation),
Jesus made available to all believers.
.
Ezekiel 34:16
I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak. But I will destroy those who are fat and powerful. I will feed them, yes —feed them justice!

Yes thank you, adding to my lesson today! heart

The Old Testament prophecies show God’s heart to find that lost sheep! And rejoicing over the 1 lost ship that was found!
Jesus reaching out to the lost and sinners shows God’s heart to seek us out and redeem us!
God keeps seeking out those who are lost! May I have His heart for the lost and remember it is about rescuing the “1.” Everyday look for the one!
Praying over all the requests!
❤️
Reflection Questions:
1. How does Luke 19:1–10 clarify your understanding of Jesus’s mission on earth?
That our God and Jesus do not want to leave us behind. They invite everyone to Their house and He will seek to your to give you an opportunity to repent and change your ways.
2. How does today’s reading shape your understanding of the story of redemption?
Our God is all inclusive. He wants us to change and seek Him.
❤️ the Lord bless you all

Reminded of “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling”, Will L Thompson, 1880. Found a version with Kristyn Getty, Vince Gill, Ellie Holcomb, Sierra Hull.
Chorus:
Come home, come home;
you who are weary come home;
earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
calling, O sinner, come home!
.
Each of the lost is being sought, praying each will turn to the Lord.

Please pray for my elderly friend, June, that many have prayed for in the past. I was able to see her yesterday, and she was not doing well. She’s failing physically and then received heartbreaking news regarding her daughter. She doesn’t know the circumstances but her daughter was released Monday and taken to a different city for the next phase of her release and is unable to travel to see her mother. June waited all day Monday to see her daughter come down the hall and said yesterday that she knows she will never get to see her again with the location situation. Praying for June and for her daughter Ann – that they will cling to the Lord rather than shake their fist at Him, especially concerned about Ann as she is a fairly new believer, and that the Lord would make a way for them to meet here on earth at least one more time.
Oh, what a crushing disappointment. Will pray that God makes a way for them to see each other before heaven, and that they will trust Him even when things don’t make sense (to our human understanding, anyway). I’m sure she was encouraged by your visit. ❤️
amen
Oh wow. And amen. ❤️
Praying for June and Ann.
I LOVE that hymn!! I will look up that version. Sad about your friend…
Praying for June and Ann ❤️
Ah that’s a crushing blow to both, I’m sure, BUT GOD.. Praying He make a way for June and Ann to meet, He is faithful.. and for Ann to keep the faith and trust God, Amen.
God bless you Searching for your friendship with June, especially at such a time as this.❤️
God’s FIERCE love for us is shown for us today. We saw God’s provision and guidance for the straying and lost in the Old testament, individuals and Israel. In the new testament He sends the ultimate Mercy, Grace, Redemption and Restoration in Jesus for all the lost.
I didn’t have a plan for Jail Ministry today. But at the service for Savannah I spoke about “fierce love.” And yesterday on the way to the airport and told my sister I wasn’t sure what I would do today- she said “fierce love!”
And so it is. The scripture that came up last night for a write up was Luke 15:1-7. What a confirmation!
We must go after the one, the lost. We have the fierce love of God for ourselves, but then we must have fierce love to go for the lost. Oh how time is so short!! We must show comfort to others we have found in Jesus. Peace that we know how the story ends, share it. Joy, in the midst of all our suffering and struggles, pain and sickness….Joy that we know the end of the story! Freedom from the chains that gripped us…they can have it too. What looked like destruction and ashes in their life, we know God can bring new.
Let’s not hold what we have…we must shine it strongly and boldly to whom God puts before us! We must take action to “want” to do more, to be used by God…!
I plan to play “Black Sheep” by Ben Fuller today.
❤️
Rhonda. this is perfect! Thank you.❤️
I can remember the day Jesus found me! I’m saying that wrong, the day I found Jesus!
I can remember the day I realised I was not alone! And never had been!
I can remember the day I received Jesus as my LORD and Saviour, so clearly I can remember my baptism!
I can remember the day I fell to my knees in worship..
.
.Oh how the story of Zacchaeus, reminds me so of me in those early days…
Those days of wanting to know more.,and seriously why would anyone (apart from. my earthly father..) let alone Jesus wanting to eat with me, and then die for me..
Those early days of questions have subsided, but I have over the years, understood that my life here on earth matters, BUT my life to come is more is more important..
Salvation, is my way home, and Jesus sought me out, when i needed Him the most.
I was even shown a ‘glimpse’ through the image of where julee was…
.
A-M-A-ZING!
.
Jesus’s mission on earth, included me, you and all we love,. We get inquisitive eventually and climb that sycamore tree, He sees, and He says ” come down Tina, for I, the son of Man comes to seek and save you..”
And boy, did and has He!
.
Forever thankful for the grace and love, and the gift of salvation afforded me because of Jesus..
Thank you Jesus, Thank you.., for seeking me, and thank you for saving me..
.
As I wrote those words, the song..
.
Thank you for saving me, what can I say, you are my everything, and I will sing your praise.. YOU shed your blood for me, what can I say,You took my sin and shame, a sinner called by name
Great is the LORD, so great is the LORD, for we know your truth has set us free,
You set your hope in me…
.
BUT GOD,,
,
AMEN..
.
Happy wednesday my dears..
Much love,
Tina ❤️
A-M-A-ZING, indeed! ❤️ We are so very blessed and fortunate that He saves us!
Tears again ❤️
I’ve always loved the story of Zacchaeus. Today the words (chief tax collector, and he was rich) jumped out at me. I’m from Minnesota where major tax fraud is being exposed. I think if Jesus came and picked our governor to have dinner with I would be like the people in the story saying “what! Why is he having dinner with him!” Instead I should be praying for him, all leaders, that he (they) would have a heart transformed and would seek Jesus and be found. According to Jesus, I need to love them. So thank you Jesus for transforming my heart and mind, reminding me of your command to love one another. ❤️
Yes Monie such a great reminder. ❤️
Thanks Monie for the current reminder! It’s so easy to read with blinders!!!
❤️
it’s helpful that Luke was a dr and understood the physical aspects of the crufixion

John 10:11, ” I am the Good Shepherd”,goes with Jesus’s mission statement of Luke 19:10.
Redemption: The Good Shepherd seeks us when we are lost and brings back to the flock where we belong.
Lord, I want you to shepherd me through this difficult situation called life, this wilderness. zYou can by your Holy Spirit shepherd me any circumstance. In Jesus name I pray.
Leaving 99
Song by Audio Adrenaline ‧ 2003
Lyrics
I’m lost and broken, all alone on this road
The wheels keep turnin’, but the feelin’ is gone
When I fear I’m on my own
You remind me I am not alone
When You said
I’d leave ninety-nine
Leave them all behind
To find you
For you alone
I’d leave ninety-nine
Leave them all behind
To find you
It’s dark and lonely and the path is unclear
Can’t move my feet because I’m frozen in fear
Then you say, “My child, my child –
I am always here, I’m by your side”
I’d leave ninety-nine
Leave them all behind
To find you
For you alone
I’d leave ninety-nine
Leave them all behind
To find you
You’re never too far down
I promise you’ll be found
I’ll reach into the mud and mirely clay
Pursue you to the end
Like a faithful friend
Nothing in this world can keep me away
I’d leave ninety-nine
Leave them all behind
To find you
For you alone
I’d leave ninety-nine
Leave them all behind
To find you

Amen. Thank You Jesus!
Jesus came for everyone no matter who they are, not matter how they live. His desire is for all to be rescued from a life of sin, to be saved, redeemed and walked His own. What an awesome and mighty God we serve. ❤️
❤️

Thankful for our God who seeks the lost like me – may I reflect His love in my life ❤️✝️
In a crowd of people, Jesus saw the one man who was so desperate to see Him that he climbed a tree. Even when we seem invisible to the world, God sees us and knows us intimately!
❤️
❤️
Can you imagine the scene on the day Zacchaeus climbed the tree to get a glimpse of Jesus? Crowds all around Jesus, similar to the story of the bleeding woman. Yet, Jesus chose to stop. He called Zacc down from the tree and went to his house for a meal! Everyone around them must have been stupified. This famous Rabbi eating with a sinner. Imagine how Zacc must have felt! It reminds me that Jesus does not only want to save us, but he wants to lift us up out of our shame and bring us to a place of honor.
A place of honor….thank you for pointing that out. ❤️
Yes! Love that theme in the Jesus and Women
I love that.. lift us out of our shame and bring us to a place of honour! Amen!
Thank you Tami..❤️
Good morning! Quietly and thankfully in my heart “He is Holy” and in the midst of believers for all to hear”Thank You for saving a sinner like me Lord”!
His mission was to seek us out and restore us. We were lost and he wanted to ensure our safety back to him. We are his and we are his priority.
❤️
As the great shepherd, Jesus came to seek and save all the lost sheep. None are too broken for Him to save. He wants all the lost sheep to be found. This includes all our prodigals.
❤️
Yes!
Amem.❤️
The Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost! Which thankfully is everyone!!
There is none righteous, no not one!!!
❤️
Luke may be my favorite gospel. I love the reminder of how much I need Jesus to save me
Jesus’ mission on earth was to be the Shepherd to His people that God promised in Ezekiel.
.
Today’s reading showed that our redemption is not something we might just stumble upon, but God seeks us out to offer it.

Jesus came to save sinners! Specifically, Jesus came to provide a way of salvation to the whole world—not just those of Jewish decent. He also shows particular care for those who the world has marginalized. He is the good Shepherd. Praise God that He came to seek and save us, the lost! May we, by our daily words and actions, share this good news of great joy for all people!

I posted this late yesterday, but since I’m doing my night owl thing again, I thought I’d post it again to give you all an update on the CT scan I had on my kidney on Monday:
The results from my CT scan came up on MyChart from the hospital. According to the measurements shown, the tumor has not grown since my last scan five months ago. Praise God! I will be talking with my doctor on Wednesday, and expect him to say we’ll wait another six months and do another scan before deciding how to proceed.
Thank you all for your prayers.
oh Teresa, praising God with you! Will continue to pray for God’s hand to be over you and through the Great Physician himself this tumour will be gone, in His time. Such good news today, let’s celebrate!
Every praise is to our God…
