Our family goes camping a few times each year. During the day we love hiking, relaxing, and cooking meals. But once the sun sets, it gets very dark. Occasionally, you’ll spot a distant campfire, but that’s about it. If we need to get up during the night, a lantern is essential. It doesn’t eliminate the darkness but lights the path just enough to help us move safely. A lantern brings both guidance and comfort when everything around you is covered in darkness. Of course you could always attempt to navigate the darkness without a lantern, but it is far more challenging—and you might not make it to where you want to go.
In today’s Scripture reading, we learn that the Holy Spirit is like a powerful lantern. In John 16, Jesus was with His disciples at the Last Supper giving one of His final teachings. The disciples didn’t fully understand what was about to happen in the coming days, but Jesus focused on what would come after He returned to the Father (vv.7–11). He told them the Holy Spirit was coming—a helper who is part of Him, who would live in them and bring wisdom, guidance, and comfort. In Isaiah 32:14–18, we see that the Holy Spirit brings justice, peace, trust, and rest. And in Joel 2:28–29, God promised to pour out His Spirit on us, giving us wisdom and fulfilling prophecies.
Jesus knew He wouldn’t be with us on earth forever, but He also knew what we would need. We need a counselor, an advocate, and a mediator between us and a holy God. In Romans 8:12–17, we read that if we live according to the Holy Spirit, then we are adopted sons and daughters of God and therefore are heirs with Jesus Christ. Because of the Holy Spirit, we get to experience a life with Christ here on earth and eternally.
These scriptures show us that Jesus left so He could send us the Holy Spirit for our benefit (John 16:7). These chapters remind us that God gave us the Holy Spirit because He deeply cares and knows we can’t do life alone. When we trust in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit lives in us, guiding us through every part of life. Just like a lantern lights the way on a dark camping trip, the Holy Spirit lights our path, giving us comfort, wisdom, discernment, and joy in a world that feels heavy and dark. We can find encouragement through these Scripture readings, remembering that we are not alone. He is always with us. Though we will face trials and tribulation, we can hold on to hope, knowing Jesus has already overcome the world (John 16:33).

John 15: 11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

MERCY ❤️ “when Christians express views that differ from the mainstream” … Many years ago, Christian views were the mainstream (referring to US primarily). I am reminded of a plumb line, marking the way to stay on the right path. A slight variation isn’t always noticeable at first, but will continue to separate more and more the farther you go. And here the world is today :/

Our internet was down yesterday until late afternoon! Thanks for taking time to double up today. I wasn’t that industrious. ☺
❤ “branches cannot survive without the vine.”
Good song! ❤
We love you, Holy Soirit. We often thank and praise Jesus and God, and we neglect the Holy Spirit. Let us always remember how he is part of our beloved Trinity! ❤️
I remember in my 30’s wondering why I couldn’t decipher what the Holy Spirit might be telling me. I still struggle, but realize how immature I was in my faith back then.
The Holy Spirit is a powerful force in my life. When I was new in my walk, I overlooked Him completely. Upon hindsight, ignorance is not a bliss if you ask me. How thankful I am for the Holy Spirit. He gives me a lot of peace, He is my constant Teacher and my holy guidance, He softens my heart and enables me to think holy thoughts of Scriptures, He brought things to my memory and solutions from tough situations. He is my constant friend and comforter. The Holy Spirit can turn ordinary people into instruments of the extraordinary. The Spirit is God’s living presence in it. Amen to our sisters comments RHONDA and CEE GEE, the examples of ordinary people turning into extraordinary, Samson (supernatural strength), Gideon (courage from fear), David (leadership and deep worshipper), Elijah and Elisha (boldness, miracles to confront evil), the apostles (boldness). They are able to do what is humanly impossible, love when it hurts, live holy in a broken world. The same applies for us when we draw from the power of God inside of us. How? By Faith. Again and again by faith. The Holy Spirit is invisible, how do we know He exists within us? Same as the wind. We can’t see the wind but we notice the leaves moving when wind comes through. Same effect, so when we see broken lives rebuilt with hope and peace, heart once hardened with pride and unbelief now softened and forgiving, people once bound in addiction and shame now walk in freedom and joy, kindness and mercy flows where bitterness once ruled, we know 100% it is the movement of God’s Spirit and not human strength. As surely as the wind moves the leaves, His invisible hand brings visible change. So while our eyes can’t capture His form, our hearts and the world and the nature around us testify to His reality. The changed lives, the peace that passes understanding that washes over us, the forgiveness that defies logic, the “moving leaves” tell us that God is real. There must be a Mind behind all this. Many scientists see the universe as too precise to be a product of chance. Sir Isaac Newton said, “This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being”. When biologists look into a single living cell, they find an astonishing world of coded information, DNA, a digital language carrying billions of instructions for life. Albert Einstein wasn’t traditionally religious, but he said this, “The more I study science, the more I believe in God”. Several modern scientists, after reaching the peak of their fields, realized that their intellect alone couldn’t fill the human longing for meaning. Allan Sandage, the late astronomer who measured the universe’s age, said “It was my science that drove me to the conclusion that the world is much more complicated than can be explained by science. Only through the supernatural can I understand the mystery of existence”. Science leads to God. Science doesn’t destroy faith, it often deepens it. While science can explain the process, God is the Author of its purpose. The deeper one looks into the universe, the more one recognizes it as a masterpiece, not an accident. The Creator is not threatened by the mechanism He has designed. The beauty of life, its order, intelligence, and moral and compassion capacity, still points beyond matter to a Divine Mind. The Creator reveals Himself to those who seek, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands” Psalm 19:1, and also another way, you’re ready? Through the Bible, the Book we hold dearly in our hands. It is just beyond a privilege for me to own the Bible (in different versions, I have an antique Bible too that God gave to me), and to even imagine how He wants to be known by this little me, how He thinks I am worthy of His high knowledge, relationship where I was once unworthy. We humans are the crown of His creation. I hope you keep this in your heart. Only humans were created in His image, among everything God made, stars, oceans, animals, galaxies. Don’t go breaking His heart yall. Embrace Him. Give thanks to Him every day, every moment you can. Be blessed dear sisters.
My comment that erased started much like yours, that I was not much aware of the Holy Spirit most of my Christian life, which is sad. The church I grew up in didn’t talk much about the Holy Spirit. So most of my Christian life, I overlooked Him as well. Like you, it’s like ignorance was not bliss…I could have used that knowledge!lol. That’s just another reason to be a reader of the word ourselves and study it often and always. Never get complacent in our walk.
I love all the ways it is evident that the Spirit moves in us you listed. And the comparison of the wind.
❤
“Moving leaves” – so poetic, Mercy! ❤
Had to screenshot this to share with my son. Thank you Mercy.
Ugh…my computer decided to “reload” and lost my (always lengthy) comment. :(
I had said that most of my Christian life was without the powerful lantern to light my path. I like to put it as our GPS to help us to get to our destination. Can you remember the days before quickly putting GPS into your car? It wasn’t quite so easy, it took a nap and directions and heeding to them perfectly or you were lost. We read the Bible to learn the overview of the whole map, but to actually walk it out, we need guidance, and conviction (a knowing it is right), and empowerment (to move forward)to get there. It builds our faith in a beautiful way. Otherwise we never move forward. We don’t run our race. We never move off the start line! I want to run it well, as to win! How can we possibly do that without training, knowing where the finish line is (we can’t just follow the others), and giving it all we have!?
The Spirit comes in us at the point of Salvation. But do we trust him and let him lead us or do we just keep living in the flesh?! We grow one step at a time, with the lamp at our feet. It’s a light to our path, not the flashlight, but just enough. Always enough. We couldn’t possibly get “it” all at once as Jesus tells his disciples. Peter certainly couldn’t have preached to the crowd and “added 3000 to them” on his own! Paul couldn’t have continued after every challenge (beaten, scourged, snake bitten, storms and shipwrecked, imprisoned) without the Spirit helping him. Are we moving with the Spirit, or just going about in our flesh? Fruit will not be produced on my own. Otherwise it can be false.
Would we be able to pray for a stranger? Would we be able to go to homeless and love on them? Would we be able to tell the gospel to those imprisoned? To our family and friends? Yes, Yes, Yes!! We can try on our own, but with the Spirit we see things happen! We have courage and strength! Thank you Jesus! “For it is better that I leave you so the Spirit can come upon you!” Thank you for Holy Spirit Power!
❤
Praise God for the Holy Spirit, the Advocate and our Helper who leads and guides us! Amen Sis!
Beautiful ❤️
Also..Persecution is mentioned again. It is prophesied by Jesus that they would face it, and we will face it. Even being put to death by those who think they are doing a service for God. Would we stand firm in our faith, if it meant death? I hope so, help me Jesus.
2 They will put you out of the synagogue;l in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. 3 They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.n 4 I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them.
Sad that it did come to that, all except John. And it happens all over today. I believe the Spirit would give us the unnatural strength of peace. Even a light on our face like Stephen.
Thank you, Jesus!
A week after Jesus ascended to heaven, God’s Spirit came to dwell in his people. And He says all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved and that is still happening today. Thank you Jesus!
I really dug deeper into Isaiah 32:14-18 and read all of Joel 2 out loud and whew lots of tears. I’ve been trying to read the scriptures out loud and it amazes me how the Holy Spirit will just move me to tears so often.
Isaiah 32:14-18
When God’s Spirit works in people and nations, barren places become fruitful, and hearts filled with righteousness bring true peace.
Righteousness —> Peace —> Quietness —> Confidence Forever
Joel 2
Warning–> Repentance –> Restoration –> Holy Spirit –> Salvation
When we turn to God, He not only forgives us – He fills us with His Spirit and restores what was lost.
We need this in our nation, in our country, in our states, in our counties, in our cities. Holy Spirit will you pour out all over our world, things will never change without you revealing, causing souls to repent and restoring all that has been lost.
Thank you that one day we will live in total peace and quietness forever!!
Amen! ❤ One day!
AMEN Sis! Praising God for REVIVAL and outpouring of God’s Spirit.
I appreciate you all!
❤
Romans 8:16 NLT-
For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
.
Isaiah 49:5 NLT-
Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
and all people will see it together.
The Lord has spoken!”
.
I found this song this morning. Jesus was preparing the 12 for what was ahead. In the days ahead they would be ‘moving by faith’. They did not understand what was ahead just as we don’t, but
“we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤
Ben Fuller – By Faith – (Lyric video)
Lyrics:
It don’t come without some questions
You don’t find it without cryin some tears
You’re gonna fist fight a bunch a doubting
And shuffling your feet on through the fear
Keep shuffling your feet on through the fear
Cause there ain’t no mountain ever move without it
Ain’t no wave ever laid down on no sea
Ain’t no tombstone ever rolled away
Nobody’s left an empty grave
Without the power, the power in Jesus’ name
And a restless heart that kept movin by faith
You can bet this side heaven
It won’t always, won’t always be clear
But when He speaks you just start movin
Trust the Holy Ghost to always take the wheel
You trust the Holy Ghost to always take the wheel
Repeat chorus
Movin, movin by faith
Movin, movin by faith
Movin by faith
Like Abraham
Movin by faith
Like Isaac
Movin by faith
Like Moses
Movin by faith
Like Rahab
Movin by faith
Like Samson
Movin by faith
Like David
Movin by faith
There ain’t no mountain ever move without it
Ain’t no wave ever laid down on no sea
Ain’t no tombstone ever rolled away
Nobody’s left an empty grave
Without the power, the power in Jesus’ name
Without the power, the power in Jesus’ name
And a restless heart that kept movin by faith
Movin, movin by faith
Movin, movin by faith
Movin by faith
Just listened to this song, I’ve never heard, I really love it. But when He speaks you just start movin! Trust the Holy Ghost to always take the wheel, there ain’t no mountain ever move without it! And a restless heart that kept movin by faith.
❤❤❤
Another hidden gem of a song. The lyrics really moved me! Thank you sister.
❤❤❤
Good morning Shes,
Yesterday I found out my dad died. I goggled him and saw where he had passed Sept 3, 2025. He was 80.
I read his obituary and what a wonderful father and husband he was and his daughter was mentioned and it wasnt me.
My mother and father were divorced when I was 3 and my dad did really mean things to me to extract revenge on my mother. Once when I was 5 he came for one of his infrequent visits. He took me to the store and bought me a beautiful dollhouse that I longed for. When he took me home, he left the dollhouse in the car. We would take it in after lunch. He got mad at my mom and drove away with that dollhouse on purpose. It was like 10 or 15 years before I heard from him again. He would call every once and while and promise he was coming for a visit. I remember sitting at the windows watching for him all day and he never came.
He remarried had another child paid her college tuition bought her cars and it was always as if I didn’t exist.
I dont feel sad and I dont feel anything not really.
Pray for me. Not sure what to do with the news.
Tanya, I remember the event with the doll house from a previous share! So cruel. My heart has experienced similar feelings/non-feelings regarding my earthly father. I will pray for your heart through this. I also understand what it feels like to discover (through Google) a loved one’s death. Big hugs, sister; we are here for you! ❤
I appreciate you all!
I am so sorry Tanya. Praying for you for sure.
I am so sorry Tanya that your history with him wasn’t easy and this news can stir up complicated feelings. Praying for your healing from the deep childhood wounds, and I pray that God will reward you and reveal to you how He values you and never abandons you. “Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close” Psalm 27:10. Hugs sister. And also, I pray for many beautiful “dollhouses” to be gifted to you this time, by the Heavenly Father, for He will give you your heart’s desires.
Praying for you dear Tanya. I am so grateful you are here and praying that your heavenly Father comforts you as you get thru this. So sorry for the way your earthly father treated you, you are God’s precious daughter forever.
I remember your heartbreaking memory as well. Thankful that you have a LOVING Father that will never abandon you/us, or try to buy your love, or manipulate you/us Prayers as you process it. I am assuming though for some reason you were prompted (the Spirit?) to google him after him passing so recently. There may be unforgiveness you need to address? Or something God is revealing? Half-sibbling awareness (envy or jealousy, desire relationship?). I like what Mercy shared Psalm 27:10 what a great reminder. People, even family will fail us. God never will.
I was thinking about the half sister, too, and wondering if she would be open to a relationship.
So sorry,Tanya. Praying you’ll be able to lean on Jesus and the she’s. Trust in the lord with all your heart
I remember the memory you had shared. How very sad. Praying for you as you process his death, sweet sister. ❤️
Heart is breaking for you to have found out this way. So sorry. Prayi g the Lord will help you process and bring healing
Lifting you up in prayer. I too remember your sharing about the doll house previously. May you feel the Lord’s presence as he fills the holes in your heart left by your earthly father. Praise God that he is our great father and comforter.
Oh Tanya…this would be extremely difficult. Praying the Lord’s nearness, peace and strength for you. That our Heavenly Father’s love would fill you up and overwhelm your heart❤️
“The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.”
Isaiah 32:17-18 NIV

These verses stood out to me today. The Holy Spirit helps us to rest in peace! Just as Jesus promised in John 16:33.
Praying for all today!
Through trials and tribulations I know that I know MY JESUS goes before lighting the way through the HOLY SPIRIT leading me so that I won’t stumble. And even if I do, HE’s right beside me, giving me His hand to Help me get up! I owe it ALL to my Jesus of where I am today! It’s all Him, none of it is me! Happy Friday sweet She’s! It’s going to be a busy morning with our sweet kiddos! You should see HOW cute they are! It’s jog-a-thon day and our TK class and another Kindergarten class are in the lead of fundraising. I can’t believe the amount these kiddos were able to convince the adults in their lives to donate! We want to win! LOL! Our kiddos are so pumped up! Can’t wait to run with them! It’s going to be quite the sight! LOL! Love that God chose me to be part of TK with an amazing teacher who also loves JESUS!

Happy Friday sweet Tina!!!!!
❤
I’ve missed your comments over the last few days. Glad you are back today. Hope you are well.
Amen. I don’t stand a chance without His Spirit.
Small thought to share- In the midst of preparing the disciples for what was going to happen, John 16:11 and 33 stood out to me. Jesus didn’t say the ruler of this world was going to be judged or that He was going to overcome the world- He said the ruler of this world is judged and He has overcome the world. The old hymn “Oh victory in Jesus, my savior forever…” comes to mind. Let’s walk in victory today, sisters. Have a blessed day.❤️
❤️
ANNA – thank you for these words of encouragement.
Amen, Anna, I love that old hymn. He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood!
Great point!❤️
John 16 reveals Jesus as:
.
The Son from heaven (v. 28),
One with the Father (v. 15),
The source of divine truth (vv. 13–14),
The conqueror of evil and giver of peace (v. 33).
.
His mission:
To reveal the Father, redeem the world, and send the Spirit so that we, His followers might live in the same divine life and victory He shares with the Father.
Amen❤️
“You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world” Jn 16:33.
.
Conquring suffering and death by suffering and dying…only in God’s upside-down kingdom does this work.
.
SANDI – thankful Brian is home. Continued prayers for you both.
.
MACKENZIE MIDDAUGH – praying you lean into Jesus and take courage to continue to shine yiur light however He inspires you to do so. 1 Peter 3:13-17.

.
TRACI GENDRON – praying yiu get answers about your pup quickly.

The holistic vet told me that Cavapoo’s are prone to separation anxiety. I knew that, but not to the extent of being able to work themselves up to being sick. She gave me lots of good information. Hoping that it all makes a difference.
I just want to write my own prayer reflection from today’s reading as it has helped me to know how to pray
I can’t quite believe that I am a child of God. To be a co-heir with Christ (Romans 8 v 17)… and yet I fall so far short on a daily basis. I want to walk righteously and speak what is right (Isaiah 33 v 15), but too often I get swept up in gossip and pride and it sickens me. Dear Jesus, I am sorry, please forgive me. May the Holy Spirit guide me into all truth when I am tempted to sin or to despair (John 16 v 13). Dear Jesus, thank you for your kindness to us when you told us to take heart for you have overcome the world (John 16 v33) – God, may I be convicted by this truth so that I may also walk righteously and speak what is right without fear and with your wisdom. I can’t do it alone; i am so foolish and prideful; I need your Spirit. Thank you that He is our Advocate that comes for us (John 16 v 7). I don’t deserve Him, and yet you have provided Him so that we might not be orphans (John 14 v 18). May I be overwhelmed my this tender kindness. May it make me fear and worship You more than man. May your Spirit enable me to put to death the misdeeds of the body (Romans 8 v 13).
Thank you for this community; thank you for this reading guide which brings me to your word. Thank you for Rachel and Amanda’s hearts in creating SRT. In Jesus’s name, amen.
