Jesus in 500 words or less. Is that even possible? After all, the apostle John ended his Gospel by stating that the world is not big enough for all the books that could be written about this man, Jesus Christ of Nazareth (John 21:25). And if John says it can’t be done, who am I to try?

The daunting task reminds me of those blue test booklets in school, the ones designed to hold handwritten answers to essay questions, paragraph after painful paragraph to prove how much we did—or didn’t—know about the subject at hand. I love words and I liked school, but even I hated those blue booklets. They symbolized a reckoning none of us could escape, the teacher acting as the sole judge of whether our finite knowledge was enough.

“Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15), Jesus asked His disciples after yet another encounter with the religious leaders who were constantly trying to corner Him, embarrass Him, and discredit Him. But His question isn’t only for the Twelve; it’s also for us.

Who is Jesus? He is God incarnate, the very fullness of God in the form of a man. John described Him this way: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Jesus was present at creation when the earth was formed and as the first man and woman were made in the image of God. “He was with God in the beginning,” John writes. “All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created” (John 1:2–3).

Not one thing was created apart from Jesus. “He is before all things, and by him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17). And yet, Jesus came to walk the very earth He formed, becoming a real human being who talked and laughed and ate breakfast and felt physical pain. He came to dwell among us—to live and die and rise again as the Savior of the world.

Who is Jesus? God the Father answered the question as His only Son stood high on a mountain, three of His friends beside Him and two ancient fathers of the faith looking on. “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased” (Matthew 17:5). God then followed that statement with a not-so-subtle command: “Listen to him!”

Who is Jesus? He is the Son of God who reveals the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14,18). He is the Lamb of God who fulfilled the law we could not keep and took the punishment for our sins on Himself (Romans 8:3–4). He is the risen Savior who reconciles us to God and gives us peace (Colossians 1:19–20).

All of Scripture points to Jesus. Every story whispers about Him. And though we may not be able to explain this reality in any number of blue test booklets, we can know it in our bones all the same. As we read the stories of women and men in the New Testament, I pray that we see Jesus. May we stand with Peter and profess: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).

Praying Sharon that God will give you the words you need and mama the heart to accept help with her little one. I volunteer in our children’s worship area and see parents that don’t want to leave their littles in the nursery. We have a way to text if they are needed which does help some parents feel better about leaving them. Hopefully this is an option for your nursery also.

I just started as of today my reading (day 1), I love this bible studies daily reading, it’s amazing, I felt closer to God today and my favorite scripture right now is Matthew 17 v 1-7, how Jesus took Peter, John and James to the mountain and he started transforming in front of them, and the Moses & Elijah showed up to speak to him! #AMAZING #WONDEROUS #SPEECHLESS

OMG! I love this Bible study plan! Day #1 is already great, my favorite part so far is the part where John says: John testified, concerning him and exclaimed, this was the one of whom I said, The one coming after me ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.

  17. Mercy says:

“Who do you say that I am?” He is the Shepherd and Overseer of my soul, the Redeemer of ashes, the Still Voice, the Refiner, the Man of War, the Judge and the Gardener. He tends the soil of my heart, sheds light so the gospel seed can grow. He pulls out the sin weeds, and thorns of fear deep within. He replaces a stony heart, provides a clean Spirit. He prunes the branches that are dead weight so I can be light. He uprooted me from rocky ground, dead places, to relocate me so I might be the evergreen tree planted near the living water, the living source. By His grace, I won’t wither despite the droughts. He shines the light of His Word on me and water me with hope and strength. The wounds of pruning He allows is for my good. I am a gardener myself, so the role of God as the Master Gardener is extra special for me. Lord, teach us to number our days so we might gain a heart of wisdom. Lifting you up in prayers as I scroll. Be blessed dear sisters.

At the name of Jesus, every knee show bow …

Yes, indeed! I just imagine that day when He returns, and EVERY knee bows and every tongue confesses that He is Lord.

Thank you to all who are praying for my daughter, Amanda. I heard from her husband that she is out of surgery, and that it went well. No decision has been made yet if she will stay in the hospital tonight, or go home. She is determined to go home. I pray she listens to her body, and to her doctor and does whatever is best for her recovery. She has drains in her arm, and will need to be monitored for at least several more hours.

    1. Cee Gee says:

I was hoping for an update, Teresa! Thanks so much for letting us know! ❤

  19. Ashley M. says:

Every part of Jesus’ life draws us closer to Him:

His birth reminds us that no one is too low to approach Him.

His teachings reframe how we live.

His prayers invite us into deeper communion.

    His death offers us forgiveness.

His resurrection gives us new life.

His ongoing presence means we are never alone.

  22. Donna Wolcott says:

Good morning sisters, I’m asking for prayers today for my son Matt. Last Wednesday he was in a mtn bike accident. He has 8 fx ribs in his back, fx clavicle, scapula and another shoulder bone and collapsed lung. It took 2 hrs to extract him. We live 4 hrs away drove to meet his wife and
children at the trauma center. Thanking God that: no head or spine injury, he wasn’t alone (this time) and his biking partner was a combat medic. Things today would be very different as he couldn’t talk, breathe. He may need surgery on lung as not all the blood has drained. He has a long, painful recovery but a deep faith in the Lord. I’ve been trying to keep up with the study but not able to read all your comments. Know I am lifting you all in prayer also.❤️

    1. Teresa Donley says:

Oh, Donna, that sounds so painful and scary for your son! God put his riding partner there to care for him! I will keep Matt in my prayers.

    2. Wendy B says:

What a very scary situation! Praying

    3. AZ Walker says:

    5. Mercy says:

Oh my word, praying for Matt. I am so sorry.

    6. Cee Gee says:

Prayers for complete healing for Matt, for wisdom for his care team, and peace for your mama’s heart, Donna! I am glad he has a strong faith! ❤

Thank you, Amanda Bible Williams! From Amanda’s post:
    .

    Who is Jesus?
❤ Son of God who reveals the Father, full of grace and truth.
    .
❤ Lamb of God who fulfilled the law we could not keep and took the punishment for our sins on Himself.
    .
❤ Risen Savior who reconciles us to God and gives us peace.
    .
All that He did, all that He endured was not to make a name for Himself in this world; it was done out of love for us.I should daily remember and thank Him for Who He is and what that means for me, a sinner condemned unclean. As the old hymn “I Stand Amazed in the Presence”says,
“Oh, how marvelous, oh how wonderful is the Savior’s love for me.”
    .
    Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤

    ❤Teresa, praying for Amanda! ❤

  24. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

Prayer Request: Asking for words of wisdom as an issue has to be addressed.
We have a number of babies in our very small church (all of which we love and adore!), but one family in particular keep their 11 month old in the service. As he’s gotten older he’s gotten louder and cries frequently. Common courtesy would be to take him out of the service when he gets noisy, but they don’t and it’s distracting to me (and I’m sure to others) and very distracting for Jeff as he preaches. He loses his train of thought and sometimes his place in his notes. He puts 20+ hours into preparing for a sermon, but of what benefit will it be if there are distractions so that it’s not being heard?
Please pray that I have wisdom and right words to speak to the mom. Words seasoned with salt, kind & sensitive – yet honest. I plan to call her this week. My husband is always fearful that if we confront someone they will leave the church. I really don’t think this will happen with this couple, but still – please pray that they will be very understanding and would be willing to put their little one in the nursery. Thank you in advance!
    ❤️❤️

    1. Cee Gee says:

Oh, Sharon, that is a tough one! Praying, sister for this mama’s heart to be open and receptive to your concern and may God give you the memories of your kids in church to share and open the dialogue. Is there any way you could meet her in person for this discussion? Does the babe have medical issues that may prevent her from feeling comfortable in leaving him in the nursery? Kudos to her for sticking it out, too! It can’t be easy. Love you and praying! ❤

      1. Cee Gee says:

A funny side note: our boys were really good in church. They sat with an older lady so we could both be in the choir. One day we had a guest singer who was really good. He had a slightly country sound. At the end of one of his songs, our 2 year old shouted, “Yee Haw! ” I felt like crawling off the platform, but everyone just laughed-as did the singer!

        1. Leanna Thompson says:

          Thank you for the chuckle.

    2. Shar says:

Would it be appropriate to offer to help the parents with the little one? To take him out if need be? Perhaps they really don’t want to miss out on the sermon. I empathize. We have a small church and distracting children are also an issue. Some people believe that the family should all be in the worship service together, which I also get and understand. Praying for wisdom for you.

    3. Susan Burley says:

Praying wisdom over you! May the Holy Spirit give you the words to speak!

    4. Margaret W. says:

I am one of those who would have had to leave the church if people insisted that I put my 3rd child in the nursery. She was terrified of strangers and then had to have surgery at 6 months old. I was told I was spoiling her and that she would never leave my lap. She is now 25 years old and lives several states away and is quite well-adjusted, so I’m glad I listened to my heart and met my baby’s needs. She was not loud because I spent many Sundays walking her back and forth in the back of the church to keep her calm. So please consider carefully how you offer help to this family. I am of the conviction that children are never an interruption or a distraction; it is we who must learn to accommodate their needs because they are the future of the church and the reason we are there. I’m praying that you can find a solution that helps everyone involved remember that Jesus welcomed children even when his disciples saw them as a problem.

      1. Tricia C says:

Yes Margaret! Thank you for sharing this.

    5. Hailey Johnson says:

If I was approached and told to leave the sermon because my 11 month old baby was behaving like a baby, I wouldn’t come back. My church has incredible mother/baby rooms where I can choose to go, in addition to the nursery. But if I choose to have him in service with us (as he prefers), I only see smiles from people around us, not frustration. Maybe look into better acoustics for the building instead.

  25. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

Jesus, the same – yesterday, today and forever.

    This song came to mind…
    .
    What A Beautiful Name

You were the Word at the beginning
One with God the Lord Most High
    Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You our Christ
What a beautiful name it is
What a beautiful name it is
The name of Jesus Christ my King
What a beautiful name it is
    Nothing compares to this
What a beautiful name it is
    The name of Jesus
You didn’t want heaven without us
So Jesus, You brought heaven down
My sin was great, Your love was greater
    What could separate us now
What a wonderful name it is
What a wonderful name it is
The name of Jesus Christ my King
What a wonderful name it is
    Nothing compares to this
What a wonderful name it is
    The name of Jesus
    Death could not hold You
    The veil tore before You
You silenced the boast, of sin and grave
The heavens are roaring the praise of Your glory
For You are raised to life again
    You have no rival
    You have no equal
Now and forever, God You reign
    Yours is the Kingdom
    Yours is the Glory
Yours is the name, above all names
What a powerful name it is
What a powerful name it is
The name of Jesus Christ my King
What a powerful name it is
    Nothing can stand against
What a powerful name it is
    The name of Jesus
What a powerful name it is
    The name of Jesus
What a powerful name it is
    The name of Jesus

All the books In the world could not contain our Savior and Lord! He is before all things, created all things, without Him nothing was made that was made. He holds the world and universe and everything together. He holds my heart and life and yours. Nothing is too hard for Him!

I loved all the scriptures chosen today! Thank you! Amen!

  30. Tanya says:

” And remember,I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Jesus is right here, right now.

Why isn’t the ascension of Jesus given as much importance as the crucifixion? I am by no means downplaying the crucifixion of Christ but the fact that He ascended is equally as important. It means He is alive and living!

“Jesus’s primary vocationa as he sits on the right hand of G-d is to pray. “Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him , because he lives to intercede for them ( Heb 7:25) In fact, Jesus’s primary vocation as he dwells among and within us is to pray. JD Walt.

Some people serve a crucified Christ but Jesus is a right here, right now, Emmanuel, G-d with us, resurrected Christ. He hears and he responds.

    1. Carol J Mylin says:

Yes,Tanya…Love your “take” on this!! The Matthew 28 passage is SO meaningful to me… we are to “Go, and make disciples… but REMEMBER… I AM WITH YOU”…!!! PHow comforting, exciting, compelling, encouraging… all at once!! ❤️❤️

  31. Brittany Bean says:

We have undeservedly received “grace upon grace”

  32. Jane K says:

  33. Taylor says:

How much hope we have in this broken world because of Jesus. He holds us fast, He never leaves us nor forsakes us, He is grace and mercy, He is love, He is peace, He is joy. I am so grateful to know and be known by Jesus, the author and Perfector of our faith. Our Savior, our risen King. Thank you Jesus for each breath in our lungs. Jesus, name above all names
    Beautiful Saviour, Glorious Lord
    Emmanuel, God is with us
    Blessed Redeemer, Living Word

This song just started running through my mind – perhaps as an extension of Names of God. He is above all else, always was and always will be and the name above all names. Jesus Christ is our Lord and may who He is be further imprinted on our hearts as we read, study, and learn and seek Him in our lives.

    .
Jesus, the one whose life history’s timeline centers on (BC and AD) and who will usher in the end of time.

P.S. – I can’t edit but further searching shows a lot of controversy regarding the origin of For He Is Lord.

  39. Searching says:

Tears are getting in the way of any words I had this morning. From the devo through the Scriptures, the whole of who Jesus is overwhelms me.
    This chorus comes to mind:
He Is Lord, Steve Vest, 1969
    .
For He is Lord! He is Lord!

He is risen from the dead and He is Lord!

Ev’ry knee shall bow, ev’ry tongue confess

    that Jesus Christ is Lord.
    .
You’re My Lord, You’re My Lord,

You have risen from the dead, and You’re my Lord.

With my knee, I will bow, and with my tongue, confess

That Jesus, You’re My Lord.

    2. Barb says:

I completely forgot about that chorus. Thanks for the reminder. Yesterday in church we sang “There’s Just Something About that Name” by the Gaithers. I didn’t appreciate those choruses growing up in the 70s but as I approach my 60s, they have become dear to me.

    .
He was and is and is to come.. will Always be ..
    .
    Philippians 2:9-11 says this..
    .
Therefore God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, that at the mention of the name of JESUS every knee shall bow, of those in heaven, those on earth and those under the earth and that every tongue shall confess that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD to the glory of God the Father…..
