In this reading plan, we are learning more about God by studying the names given to Him in Scripture. Each day, you’ll come here to read the description of the name we’re studying today and a brief explanation of how God’s character is seen through His name. (Remember that because the Bible was originally written in Hebrew and Greek, some of God’s names are written in the English form of His name from their original language.) You can then head to today’s passages to see how this name functions in Scripture.

JESUS: The name of the incarnate Son of God

Iesous, or “Jesus,” means “Yahweh saves.” It is the Greek form of the Hebrew word Yeshua, a shortened version of Yehoshu’a, which is translated as “Joshua.” Jesus, a common name in the first century AD, was the human name the Lord was given on earth. Mary and Joseph obediently gave the child this name because an angel of the Lord visited Joseph in a dream and told him, “you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

Scripture often combines the name Jesus with the Greek word for messiah, Christos, or “Christ.” The name “Jesus Christ” joins the two names in order to recognize Jesus as the anointed Savior. The New Testament keeps Jesus’s human name and His designation as the Christ linked after the resurrection, emphasizing that He remains fully man and fully God with all authority in heaven and on earth.

  1. Morgan Garrett says:

Being born a sinner, I was separated from a Holy God. In order to come to God. I needed a Savior. That Savior is Jesus, who came in human form. He was fully man and fully God without sin. He experienced all I experience. He was obedient to death on a cross! He was resurrected and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God. To reign and Judge.

Thank you Jesus for saving me and letting me able to come to God and commune with him anytime I want.

I’m really struggling to get moving today and to get anything done (hence the late-in-the-day post), but I wrote this in my book next to the Revelation 1:5-6 passage:
How great and incomprehensible is your love for me, Jesus! I don’t have the words, nor am I sure your greatness can even be expressed in words. So I praise you, today and every day, as long as I live, no matter how I feel. You have given me breath, and so I have purpose, even when I can’t remember it. So now I remember my purpose, and I will praise you today, whatever else may happen. I am yours.

    1. Cee Gee says:

That’s beautiful, Margaret; thank you for sharing! Yesterday the song that kept breaking through was “Your praise will ever be on my lips; ever be on my lips.” ❤
      .
      EVER BE by Aaron Schust
      Your love is devoted
Like a ring of solid gold
Like a vow that is tested
      Like a covenant of old
      Your love is enduring
      Through the winter rain
      And beyond the horizon
      With mercy for today
      Faithful You have been
      And faithful You will be
      You pledge Yourself to me
      And it’s why I sing
Your praise will ever be on my lips
      Ever be on my lips
Your praise will ever be on my lips
      Ever be on my lips

My daughter, Amanda, will have her surgery on Monday morning to remove all the lymph nodes under her arm. The doctor expects to find more cancer since there was cancer in the ones they removed at the time of the lumpectomy. But since then, she has had chemotherapy, and lots of prayer. My prayers has been, and continues to be, that God has already healed her and she is completely cancer free. Please pray that the surgery goes well and that her recovery is easy, too. She is supposed to be off work for three weeks, but is already saying she doesn’t think it will be that long.

      Keeping all in prayer! ❤

Teresa, praying ahead of Monday and interceding for Amanda. Trusting God in His promise to make all things new.
      Isaiah 43:19 says
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
      .
      Revelation 21:5 says
“And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’”
      Trusting God..
      .
      BUT GOD..
      .
Love to you dear Teresa and hope-filled life is being kind to you..❤️

THIS morning I join all of you from Monterey California! One of our favorite beach towns about a 2 hour 15 minute drive. Currently at one of our favorite coffee shops here in the area having our quiet time here. A little noisy but we tune everything out. I think it’s so cool that my kids and I were talking about this very same thing in the car about Jesus being fully human, and fully God!! Yep as a mama, I enjoy these conversations with the two love of my life. Happy Friday sweet She’s.

    1. Cee Gee says:

      Enjoy that precious time! ❤

  12. Traci Gendron says:

“This is Jesus” by Zach Williams and “My Jesus” by Anne Wilson were songs that I heard on the radio daily driving to Tanner’s. They have so much meaning for me.
    ~
Philippians 2:9 For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow – in heaven and earth and under the earth – and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
    ~
and Revelation 1:7 Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn over him. So it is to be, Amem.
    ~ AMEN indeed.

    1. Cee Gee says:

    Seph Schlueter –
This Side Of Heaven (Lyric Video)

    Life’s knocked me down a 100 times
My heart gave out it lost it’s fight
    It gets tiring
    To get up again
Had one too many sleepless nights
Kept up by fears that haunt my mind
    And it’s hard to see
    But I still believe

That one day tears are gonna be no more
One day I’ll know what all the struggle was for
But here while I wait (while I wait)

    On this side of heaven
I’m gonna praise through the pain
    On this side of heaven
I’m holding on to my faith
    I won’t regret it
The times that I chose to be brave
    And run to Your presence

Trusting that You’re still the same
    On this side of heaven
    This side of heaven
    This side of heaven

    So I surrender knowing why
Cause in the letting go I find
That You’re in it all (You’re in it all)
    You are in it all
    Every wound and scar
    Every broken heart
There’s a piece of You in every part
I don’t have to wait (don’t have to wait)
    You’re only a prayer away

    On this side of heaven
I’m gonna praise through the pain
    On this side of heaven
I’m holding on to my faith
    won’t regret it
The times that I chose to be brave (be brave)
    And run to Your presence
Trusting that You’re still the same (You’re still the same)
On this side of heaven (this side of heaven)
On this side of heaven (this side of heaven)

On this side of heaven (this side of heaven)
    This side of heaven

Until I see You face to face
And all my troubles fade away
I won’t miss a chance to bless Your Name

And when I struggle to believe

    And hallelujah’s hurt to sing
Even then I’ll give You everything

    On this side of heaven
I’m gonna praise through the pain
(I’m gonna praise through the pain)
    On this side of heaven
I’m holding on to my faith (holding on, holding on)
    I won’t regret it (I won’t regret it)
The times that I chose to be brave
    And run to Your presence
Trusting that You’re still the same
On this side of heaven (this side of heaven)
On this side of heaven (this side of heaven)

On this side of heaven (this side of heaven)
    On this side of heaven

      “praise through the pain” amen.

  14. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

This seems like such a small and unimportant request after reading all the prayer requests that are heavy burdens and sorrowful situations, but still would like to ask prayer for me and my sister Arian.
We are going to a Chris Tomlin concert tonight in Central Park. I have been looking forward to this since I first heard of it and my family got me this as a birthday present.
Arian has a horrific headache, went to bed with it and woke up with it. Earlier in the week, I had the same and for the past few days I have been experiencing some other pain. …we both want to go to this concert and be able to enjoy it and truly – worship under the stars. Please pray we both feel well and will be able to endure the heat and high humidity.

Thank you much sweet sisters. ❤️

    1. Traci Gendron says:

Not silly at all! Sounds like a wonderful time to be had.

    2. Marie S says:

I am blessed to be able to pray for you and your sister. Thank you for trusting me with this.

Go and enjoy your worship time with other brothers and sisters, be blessed in Jesus’s Name

    3. Cee Gee says:

Not silly, Sharon! What a blessing for you b. Praying all pain is greatly diminished and that the heat and humidity will be tolerable- for y’all and for those on stage! ❤

    4. Mercy says:

Praying for you and your sister, have a wonderful time. Such a thoughtful gift.

    5. Mari V says:

Not silly whatsoever. If it’s important to you, it’s important to God and it’s important to us. Praying right now for your sister. Have a great time at the concert!

    6. Tina says:

Sharon, this is not a silly request..it would be an honour to pray the headache be gone in the name of Jesus..
Fauth tells me you will get there and you will have an amazing tome without headaches, without being too hot and totally enjoy whilst worshipping under the stars..❤️❤️❤️

    7. Teresa Donley says:

Sharon, this is an important request. I know the pain of headaches, and I pray your sister is touched by God’s Healing hand and relieved of all pain. I pray that you both are feeling well for the concert, and can endure the heat and humidity as you worship our Savior along with thousands of other believers.

  15. Erica Chiarelli says:

A thousand generations falling down in worship
To sing the song of ages to the Lamb
And all who’ve gone before us and all who will believe
Will sing the song of ages to the Lamb
… Your name is the highest
    Your name is the greatest
Your name stands above them all
    All thrones and dominions
    All powers and positions
Your name stands above them all

  16. Cathy McVey says:

Good morning! Just wanted to give you an update on my daughter, Brittannie’s surgery. She did well through surgery and the surgeon feels very confident that everything went well. He said he won’t know for sure for 3 months. I’m assuming because of the hardware placement and decompression but he has move everything from around the nerves and she should have much less if not complete pain relief. We are bringing her home today. Now the real work starts! Helping her to follow orders. She is very much a “can-do” mama. She’s already said “I can’t do anything!” Thank you all so much for your prayers. What a joy it is to rely on such a wonderful group of women to pray. Love and hugs!❤️

    1. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

Praise God for the good report! So glad all went well, will continue to pray for her recovery and that she will take it slow and steady!

    2. Cee Gee says:

So thankful the surgery went well! Please let Brittannie know that you both are in our prayers for an uneventful recovery! From weather reports I’ve seen it looks like you may have those cooler temps! ❤

    3. Tina says:

Praise God for the good news that all has gone well with Brittannies surgery.
Praying now that she will listen, at least for a couple of days, to recover well.. I get ‘the doer’ thing, but in Jesus name, I do hope and pray Gods presence to help her rest and heal .
      Praying for you too, Cathy..❤️

    4. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, you may not have read my comment the other day, but my parents came and took care of me after spine surgery…and I wasn’t a very patient patient! It was frustrating not to do things! Glad you are there for her!!

    5. Teresa Donley says:

Cathy, I’m joining in prayer for Brittanie as she recovers. I pray God will grant her the patience and grace to allow her body to heal, and to allow you to care for her. My daughter is that “can do” mama also, and is already saying she isn’t going to need help after next week’s surgery. I’m including you in my prayers as you care for Brittanie.

You sisters have mentioned so many great songs this week, most of them songs we often sing at church. I can’t remember if this one was shared, but it is the first
song to pop in my mind when I read the title today.
    .
    “Jesus Messiah” by Chris Tomlin

He became sin, who knew no sin
That we might become His righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross

Love so amazing, love so amazing

Jesus Messiah, name above all names
    Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
    Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

His body the bread, his blood the wine
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled, and the veil was torn

Love so amazing, love so amazing, yeah

Jesus Messiah, name above all names
    Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
    Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

All our hope is in You, all our hope is in You
All the glory to You, God, the light of the world

Jesus Messiah, name above all names
    Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
    Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

  19. Ashley M. says:

When we call on the name of Jesus, we’re not just speaking a name from history. We are calling on the living Savior, the one who walks with us, intercedes for us, and knows us by name. His name is power over fear, hope in the darkness, and peace in chaos.

Today, no matter your past or your questions, you can say His name—Jesus—and know that He hears you. He came not for the righteous, but for the broken, the weary, the lost. And in His name, you’ll find everything you need.

    1. Rhonda J. says:

    Hello Shes
You don’t know what you don’t know!
But be ready when the beauty, goodness & truth arise!
Two standouts in the narrative this morning.
That Jesus was a common name in the first century AD. And the New Testament links the names “Jesus” with “Christ” after the resurrection to emphasize He was fully man and fully God.
    Somethings I had never considered.
How wonderful to unwrap layers of meaning behind a name commanded and a name risen.
    Nothing is ever random.
May I ever reverence His perfection & precision in walking by faith & looking towards the cross.

Happened to me yesterday, Foster Mama! Never posted!!
Joining in your prayer requests. God sees and knows it all.
      ❤ .
Maybe SRT could explain why a prayer need and an expression of praise would not pass moderation. Baffling for sure!

      1. Mercy says:

Happened to me too a few weeks ago. A long prayer request was blocked and never appeared.

  26. Foster Mama says:

Wow! I feel like I’ve never noticed this verse before…. perhaps because it’s so close to the beginning of Revelation, that I’m still starting my engine:

and EVERY EYE will see him,
    EVEN THOSE WHO PIERCED HIM.
And all the tribes of the earth
    will MOURN OVER HIM.
So IT IS TO BE. Amen. (from 1:7, emphasis obviously mine)

    **

I’m emotional as I read every single scripture today; is it because the name of Jesus does and SHOULD stir me this way?! Is it because the past 24 hours I have been convicted that we really need a MUCH more active role in our goddaughter’s life?!
    Tears flow….

    **
It seems I have no shortage of prayer requests I want to bring to this group in particular.

    1) TODAY, preparing for my FIL’s “Goodbye birthday party” (which will also include welcoming a new 1-month old to our family)…but ALSO really want time to talk to goddaughter’s grandmother too!!

    *

    2) I found out that recently a 20 year old boy (friend of a relative) was driving a (?) golf cart with 3 friends along for the ride. It sounds like they were having fun and he was drinking. Not sure what happened but the cart flipped and one of the friends died.

My heart aches so much for the family who lost their son. I pray he knew Jesus and for his loved ones to be covered in peace.

I covet your prayers also for the boy (who is officially an adult and will be treated that way by the law) who’s actions lead to a friend dying, living with that every day. In our area, it is legal to drink at that age but ZERO alcohol if behind the wheel. He is likely facing jail time.

[I don’t know most of the details and assume he is in the wrong but can’t help but think…even as the “goody two shoes” girl that I was…there were certainly times when my actions could have had very negative, possibly life-altering, consequences…and didn’t.]

So much love to you, SRT sisters❤️❤️

    **

✝️ All glory to Your name, my Jesus, the Messiah come to be my Saviour, showing me the love of the Father with every breath…..You are Almighty God and I trust You…. forgive my unbelief and weakness ✝️

    1. Darby Byrd says:

Praying over all of your request! And I too loved that verse in revelation!!

    2. Cee Gee says:

Nice to see your comment survived moderation! Joining in prayer for these needs! ❤

    3. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

Praying for all your requests. How sad for this young man – one bad choice and a lifetime of consequences. So, so sad. Praying for him, his family and for the family who lost a son. Unimaginable. ❤️

    4. Traci Gendron says:

That is so sad. That same thing happened to my brothers friend. His wife was driving and alcohol was involved. He fell off the back and died. She was found not at fault. Thank goodness.

  28. Ashleigh H says:

Thank you all for sharing songs. I want to have reminders in my day of what I’m reading in Scripture, and songs are a good way to go about it. Praying for all requests made and all of you. I need prayer myself for physical and financial health. My hubby and I have hit a hard place financially and this summer has been full of surprises in a bad way. Currently, I’m nursing a bone bruise on my ankle from early June due to a direct hit from a plastic scooter from my son (I was xrayed to ensure it wasn’t broken), a tooth that needs oral surgery, and my son needs a baby root canal at the age of five. We also had to start this summer off with a new car as my husband got in a minor wreck that totaled his last one.

    1. Cheryl Blow says:

      Praying for you Ashleigh!

    2. Darby Byrd says:

Oh, that is so much, I’m praying for you, Ashleigh!

    3. Cee Gee says:

What a burden, Ashleigh! Praying insurance will contribute in a big way and for no more ‘bad surprises’ for a while! ❤

    4. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

Praying for you Ashleigh, that’s a lot of “hit” at once. May God give you the grace to go through it all. ❤️

    5. Mercy says:

Praying for this rough time to pass by God’s grace. May He strengthen you with peace that surpasses understanding despite the many challenges. Hugs mama.

    6. Teresa Donley says:

Ashleigh, I’m praying for you with all these financial, emotional and physical hits.

    7. Jane K says:

Praying, Ashleigh, for all your request. Praying our Lord and Savior will pour out His favor on you and your husband.

  29. Jennifer Jackson says:

Romans 10:9 states, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

    1. Cee Gee says:

  30. Leanna Thompson says:

Good morning she’s! I read early mornings and go back to read yesterday’s later comments before I read the current days scripture and comments. I wanted to share what I commented to Traci this morning in case she doesn’t go back to read my comment.

Traci, years ago my mother had a colonoscopy polyp that came back cancerous. We went to surgeon to discuss surgery, we met with oncologist to discuss options. She needed a second colonoscopy so the doctor could tattoo the area. She had her second colonoscopy on Christmas Eve. NOTHING was found. She had to have colonoscopies every year for a few years and she never had a cancerous polyp again. Praying for you.

    1. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

      ❤️

    2. Traci Gendron says:

Oh thank you for sharing that! I’m just so glad I went. I had put it off for an extra 1.5 years. I am relieved that they were precancerous and removed.

  31. Tanya says:

    I Speak Jesus
Song by Charity Gayle ‧ 2021

    Overview
    Lyrics
I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
Over every heart and every mind
‘Cause I know there is peace within Your presence
    I speak Jesus
I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
‘Til every dark addiction starts to break
Declaring there is hope and there is freedom
    I speak Jesus
    ‘Cause Your name is power
    Your name is healing
    Your name is life
    Break every stronghold
    Shine through the shadows
    Burn like a fire
I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
    Over fear and all anxiety
To every soul held captive by depression
    I speak Jesus
    ‘Cause Your name is power
    Your name is healing
    Your name is life
    Break every stronghold
    Shine through the shadows
    Burn like a fire
    Shout Jesus from the mountains
    Jesus in the streets
Jesus in the darkness, over every enemy
    Jesus for my family
    I speak the holy name
    Jesus, oh (oh)
    Shout Jesus from the mountains
And Jesus in the streets (oh)
Jesus in the darkness, over every enemy
    Jesus for my family
    I speak the holy name
    Jesus (Jesus)
    ‘Cause Your name is power
    Your name is healing
    Your name is life
    Break every stronghold
    Shine through the shadows
    Burn like a fire
Your name is power (Your name is power)
Your name is healing (Your name is healing)
Your name is life (You are my life)
Break every stronghold (break every stronghold)
    Shine through the shadows
    Burn like a fire
I just wanna speak the name of Jesus
Over every heart and every mind
‘Cause I know there is peace within Your presence
    I speak Jesus
