The promise of eternal life hinges on Jesus being the resurrection and life (Jn 11:25). If He had not been more powerful than death, we would have no hope. But it can be hard to imagine a world where believers are raised in glory and power and where their natural, earthly bodies have been transformed (1Co 15:40, 42–44). The promise of a glorious resurrection stands in contrast to just about everything that we experience on a day-to-day basis here on earth.

Living with this promise in view is an example of what it looks like to experience the already-and-not-yet nature of God’s kingdom. Amidst the death and decay of our present world, believers get to experience the glory of having the Spirit of God reside within us (Eph 1:14), reminding us of the perfect communion we’ll get to experience with God forever in the new heaven and new earth. Even though the fullness of eternal life may seem like a far-off reality, because of Christ, it is our guarantee.

  13. Margaret W. says:

I am in totally exhausted caregiver mode today; my son’s caregiver called in sick today, and I just could not find the strength to do anything but cancel my own PT appointment and sleep. Thankfully, I could meet my mental health therapist online, but my poor son was so bored that he called his dad to take him to dinner. So I have a bit of a break, but I am just tired and overwhelmed deep down in my soul. The person who was supposed to have some families ready for us to interview for my son did not have that ready when we got back from Guatemala, and I followed the instructions of my son’s case manager and put it back on the LFS Manager to do the job he was asking me to follow through on. I don’t think my pastor (who got me in touch with LFS in the first place) thinks I handled it correctly, but I also think my pastor has no idea just how limited my capacity is right now. I cannot do it all. I also need to communicate more clearly my expectations with the caregiver who is out sick because I feel taken advantage of (and that may not be intentional, but it’s hard when you hire friends for such jobs). Anyway, I need prayer for rest and better communication with all of these parties when I am basically at the end of my rope. Thank you so much, sisters.

    1. Searching says:

Oh, Margaret, I can feel your exhaustion through your words! Praying now for rest, for workable, dependable solutions and for clear communication with all those involved. ❤️

“… an example of what it looks like to experience the already-and-not-yet nature of God’s kingdom.”
To me, “the already” is the beauty, goodness & truth which is present & immediate. Full surround, high fidelity, His world alive. Available right here, right now. Not a God of far off.
And to me, “the not yet” is the promise repeated. Rising with Him on the other side of earthly death. Something my limited mind can hardly imagine.
    Something I struggle to understand.
    Something fearsome in the inscrutability.
And maybe that is as it should be.
    Like any belief by faith.
    Shrouded in trust.
    Veiled in Holy mystery.

  20. Kris says:

I have to admit something here. There are days that living FOREVER seems too much to bear. With all the struggles this earth affords, I just don’t know that living forever sounds so great. In my limited mental capacity, I just can’t even imagine a life with so much joy that we don’t want it to ever end. This is where I have to trust that eternal life with Jesus is going to be so grand that I wouldn’t want it to ever end…. even after 1000 years…. it’s too much for me to even imagine or catch a glimpse of.

    1. Rhonda J. says:

You are not alone, I know that feeling. Sometimes, over and nothing sound good for weary souls.

    2. Tina says:

Kris, you are not alone I’m sure..
      BUT GOD..
Prayerful His peace will cover your mind and heart..
      It is well.. Trust Him..❤

  21. Cee Gee says:

John 17 is one of the best chapters in the Bible. There we see Jesus praying for us – the ones He is leaving behind.
John MacArthur says that this is truly ‘The Lord’s Prayer’.
    Warren Wiersbe says:
“Here our Lord focuses our attention on the future. He begins to pray for us who live today, for the whole church throughout all ages. He has already prayed about security and sanctity; now the burden of His prayer is unity. He is concerned that His people experience a spiritual unity that is like the oneness of the Father and the Son. Christians may belong to different fellowships, but they all belong to the Lord and to each other.”

I love what was said in the podcast.
“Yes, our body is decaying, but every day that we are closer to glory we are becoming increasing like Him. So I’m becoming more alive…I’m more alive now than I was at 25.”
Our reality is that we have been given the Holy Spirit as a down payment. We are sealed and the deed is done.
“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1: 13-14

  24. Paula Mourin says:

  25. Karen Breaux says:

    Amen ❤✝️

  26. Mari V says:

The Holy Spirit is our down payment of our inheritance (Eph 1:14). This is really standing out to me this morning. My (OUR) down payment has already been taken care of. All we have to do is “accept” it. Meanwhile I am working progressing. Until I take my last breath….”sigh” I don’t like it when I mess up, BUT God…, the Holy Spirit is right their nudging at me and sometimes an apology is whats need. Can be humbling at times, but that’s OK.

So much to “Amen” in today’s scripture readings!…

For the “but” in Romans 6:23

By believing in Christ – we will never die!

We have an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade – kept for us in heaven!

    We will have eternal pleasures!

    The promise of eternal life!

    We have victory over death!

    Amen, Amen & Amen!

Thank You Father God that all your promises are yes and Amen.

Have a blessed Thursday sweet She’s.

  29. Rhonda J. says:

I have always had the knowledge of life after death; Eternal Life. But can you imagine thinking this life is all there is? The striving to make it, to get IT all done, success, money, the American dream however that looks like? To marry, have kids, grandkids? To publish a book, to be famous. All these aspirations? Do they even have these dreams anymore? What are their dreams these days…these 20 somethings? Careers?

We are in such hodgepodge of times. I don’t even know what’s happening. I do know that I am in a pretty “happy” fulfilled place. I sit on my pretty porch in the warm sunshine, with the palm trees gently moving in the breeze. My dog is happily by my feet, my porch is newly painted. It’s my dream come true from all those snowy, long dreary gray winters in Chicago. I have a man that loves me and is such a good man, my best friend. God is using me to minister and share his love. And yet…I know there is so much sorrow and hurt all around. Hardships and tornadoes around the bin. It brings fear sometimes- how am I going to be put to test my faith and keep growing in it..? I think of you my She’s, my sisters going through such hard stuff. And my heart hurts for you. That is why it is so important to be reminded that this is not it. This is not the end game. This is just the prelude, the fairytale happy every after is a reality for believers. We have a Living Hope- a everlasting- beautiful promise of a better home, prepared just for us, his Children. We are Co-heirs with Jesus Christ!! It is hard to live in that hope and expectation, yet not really. I can’t wait til the day- Oh Glorious Day!! We will be made NEW. No more pain or sorrow, or old creaky bones! That gives me a smile in the here and now.

I am praying for you Lynn and Tami. Hold fast. Hope is here, and his name is Jesus. He will get you through, and we are giving you both a big hug.

GM ladies. I have been unable to keep up with the readings but wanted to take a moment to thank you for your prayers for my brother BJ and to give a quick update. After 3 very stressful days at home with him, we had to take him back to hospital on Sunday. His feeding tube had misaligned and they are unable to reposition it. We had to go to plan B which is IV nutrition – not optimal but our only choice. His spirits are understandably up and down. I feel so unequipped for this and am trying to keep it in the moment. He will most likely be discharged in the next few days. It is hard to keep an eternal
perspective when the here and now is so hard.

Thank You for the incredible gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. I praise You for Your love and grace, for saving me not because of anything I have done, but because of Your mercy. Thank You that eternal life is not just a future promise, but a present reality in knowing You. I am grateful that my salvation is secure in Christ and that one day I will be with You forever, where there is no more pain, sorrow, or death. Help me to live each day in light of this truth, sharing Your love and walking in faith.

    In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  45. Richlyn says:

This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only True God, and the One you have sent- Jesus Christ – John 17:3
You rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy because you ARE RECEIVING the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. – 1 Peter 1:8-9.
It is ironic that we limit eternity to the afterlife when the definition is having no end AND no beginning. Eternal life is not just in the future, it is a fullness of life here and now (not in a materialistic way, but a soul fulfilled, purpose realized, communion with the Creator – the beginning- sort of way). Eternity is now.

    1. Lena says:

      ♥️
Eternal life is not just the afterlife, it’s the fullness of life now as a Christian living for Christ. Purposefully remaining in Him, surrendering my truths to His Truths.

Praying for you and your family. I was with both of my parents when they passed away. They were two of the hardest days of my life, but there was also so much peace because I knew that they closed their eyes here and woke up in the presence of God – their faith became sight.
Cling to Him and to each other. You are dearly loved.

    24. DW says:

Echoing all these prayers for you and your family. May God’s presence and comfort surround you all during this time.

    26. Cee Gee says:

Lynne, I join in prayer with our sisters here and add an amen to each beautifully spoken love-filled prayer!
Praying specifically for a peaceful transition for Jack, for God to envelope you in PEACE and COMFORT knowing that you are loved and in many prayers daily. You are not alone spiritually and I pray that you will not be alone physically when the time comes. Prayers for all of the family, too, and for Jack’s wrestling buddies whose lives he so impacted. I love you, Lynne, and send a big sisterly hug! Thank you for sharing this today! ❤❤❤

Praying for you and your family. It is so hard.

  48. Mary Ann Graves says:

Eternal life. What a glorious promise

  49. Sally B. says:

Like Tina, I am always surprised when believers respond to having some adversity here on earth with – “it’s better than the alternative”. Meaning I suppose whatever you’re going through now is better than death. I try always to say I certainly hope not – if heaven is not better than this, then we have been preaching a lie and sold a falsehood! As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15: “And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. … If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.” Let us therefore walk out each day remembering that the promise Jesus made to us is this: eternal life.
Praying blessings on your Thursday, Ladies, so we can be a blessing to others today!

    2. Cee Gee says:

Our Sunday School teacher mentioned having your reaction to a buddy who used that comment. ❤

    3. Gwineth52 says:

      Dear Sally B.
“Let us therefore walk out each day remembering that the promise Jesus made to us is this: eternal life.”
      Awesome!!!

  50. Tina says:

Just the other day, I was serving food to our disadvantaged and volunteers, when I was asked what the lunch was by a volunteer I knew had a serious reaction to peppers. I responded casserole with peppers..
His response “.. if you poison me and I die, I’m coming back to haunt you”
I asked ..”..why? As surely, you will be in heaven. Why would you want to come back to this old place, and haunt me. You will be where you have believed for so long.. you will be with the Father, you will be with Jesus in Eternity..
His response.. “You’re right.. that was a quick response..”
    .
Here’s the thing, we dream of Eternity and eternal life, but are fearful to leave this world that is not flowing with milk and honey.(probably never has). This world that sees, each day, brother against brother, cruelty is rife, parents abandoned for gain, love sold for cash, and kindness is expected to be rewarded. Every request is answered with a “what’s it worth?”
    .
This is not the world God envisaged when He brought the world into being.
It is, however, the world Jesus died on the cross for. This world covered in much sin, much ungracious-ness. Much ungratefulness, much unhappiness, much displeasure, much hope-less-ness, much misunderstanding, much negativity..
Jesus gave His life for us to be able to see what is ahead of us as we navigate life with Him, and the promises of our Father God.
We were and have been saved from ourselves by His gracious action on the cross, and now have access to the Father through Him..
I, for one, do not intend(though I may get it wrong from time to time), to squander this gift, this promise and this guarantee of Eternal life in all it’s fulness, through Jesus..
    .
I am yours, Father God, Thank you, for this blessed assurance that I hold on to.. this blessed assurance that is mine, because of Jesus.
Thank you Father God, Thank you.
    .
    BUT GOD..
    .
    AMEN.
    .
    Thursday, and we have sunshine..whoop!
Happy sunny Thursday dear hearts, wrapped so lovingly in prayers and hugs ..❤️❤️❤️

    1. Tami says:

Oh Tina how I wish we lived nearby. I would adopt you as my “mentor”. I learn so much from your comments. Thank you:)

    2. Searching says:

So true, Tina. The physical knowing we have of our tangible life here that we can see with our eyes and feel with our hands, contrasted with the spiritual knowing we have by faith and can feel in our hearts, minds and souls, which is our home with Christ our Savior and God our Father forever. Temporary vs permanent.

      1. Gwineth52 says:

Dear Searching. Loved the way you said:
…”our tangible life here that we can see with our eyes and feel with our hands, contrasted with the spiritual knowing we have by faith and can feel in our hearts, minds and souls…”
