After you finish reading today’s Scriptures, come back and read the essay here to dig deeper into the ways we see this specific promise at work in our day’s reading. Then join your fellow Bible readers in the comments to reflect on and discuss what you’re learning!
The disciples likely had many questions as Jesus prepared them for His imminent departure, and He knew they would not understand all that was soon to take place. So His clear and comforting promise of return was essential: He would indeed come again. In the days following, His disciples remembered this promise as they contemplated all that had taken place during His crucifixion. Despite leaving them physically, He was going to prepare a place for them—one that would be an eternal dwelling once Jesus returned.
All believers on this side of the resurrection and ascension can also take heart that Christ will come again. Because He rose, we will be raised with Him for eternity. Jesus’s promise that He will come again points to a future reality, but it also encourages us in the present (1Th 4:18). As members of the kingdom that is both now and not yet, we await His return with sure, steady hope.

He chases after us! That should make our hearts sing!
My GOD thank you for always keeping your promises
Thank you Jesus for your promise to return.
Amen!
♥️
As others have shared, I love when a particular scripture reading brings to mind. Today the song on my heart is the song “jesus is coming back” by Jordan Feliz. It’s a nice upbeat encouragement to keep the perspective (and hope) even when there is chaos/uncertainty all around us! (Chorus below)
So, keep your head up
Jesus is coming back, Jesus is coming back
No, don’t you give up (hey)
Jesus is coming back, Jesus is coming back
And when the world gets complicated
We’re gonna keep on celebrating
‘Cause we know (yeah, we know)
Jesus is coming back, Jesus is coming back
Yep, that’s a good one!

I am waaaaaaaay behind on my podcasts and just listened to episode 957 of the “That Sounds Fun” podcast. If you’re a “podcast junkie” lime me (and even if you’re not!), it is a good listen!
In case my comment goes to moderation, I will put the link in another post.
I LOVED this podcast episode! So many good and timely truths.
God is so good! Everything for my wrist surgery has just fallen in place! Still believing for healing whatever way it comes!
God has just wrapped me in a big comfort blanket! Pain is manageable! Even when er has to reset the bone!
So glad you are on the mend Cheryl. God is good all the time!
❤️
Ouch! Praying the surgery goes smooth and quick healing!
❤
Loved finish with a flourish!
“So don’t throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.”. Love that! Need that! Many times things from God seem to take forever…but this encourages me to not give up, to not let my faith wane – but to fully know God’s timing is perfect every time.
Praying Philippians 4:6-9 over you and your husband now!
“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally[a] brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things. 9 Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you”
Rotsy, praying you feel His presence!
Two phrases jumped off the screen at me today:
John 14:1a
Don’t let your heart be troubled…
and Hebrews 10:35a
So don’t throw away your confidence…
.
Two STRONG reminders (that I need) of how to live in the waiting. Thinking of Isaiah 40:31 and these encouraging words about finishing the race- not just finishing, but finishing with flourish:
God’s Discipline Proves His Love
Hebrews 12:1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
As I mentioned in reply to Rhonda, I thought of the song Come. Jesus, Come. I also am thinking of It Could Happen in a Moment, a peppy song I sang in a quartet a long time ago. ☺
.
Love, hugs, and prayers sisters! ❤
I love “finish with Flourish!” Maybe I should have used that when I trained my peeps to run 5K’s! I would say no matter how tired you are feeling, when you round the corner and see the finish line—Raise that chest, get those knees up…and FINISH STRONG!! Look the part!!!
❤
I have been studying the Bible with a customer of mine who I love… she and her husband are deeply involved in Jehovah’s Witness.
We have only met twice so far and will continue to meet… the more we meet, the more her salvation (and her husband’s) weigh on my heart. As I read today’s Scripture, about being “asleep in Christ”, I think about their interpretation of that. It is very sad, as they strip Jesus of His diety, make hell basically non-existent, and believe a “soul sleep” for unbelievers.
I am praying God continues to give me grace, wisdom, and patience to meet with this woman. He alone can save her, but I want to be ever-listening to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and obedient to Him. ❤️
Praying alongside with you Michelle P! This is very close to my heart. I have friends in a similar situation and it’s hard. My desire for them to see the truth is so strong, but also know that I can not save them…but God can! Praying patience, grace and wisdom as you meet with her.
Keep planting the seed and trusting God to reveal Himself to her. I love your heart to continue doing this. Its such a beautiful picture of what He calls us to. Praying for your friend and her husband. And for you as you continue being obedient!
My husband’s aunt is a JW. I send her a Christmas card every year, and we witness as we can. (She is in another state.) It breaks my heart that she is so misled.
Thanks ladies ❤️ I pray we stay faithful!
I have always loved John 14:1-4. I can picture Jesus saying this to His beloved disciples as their understanding is just “not there” yet. He is so gentle, kind and compassionate with His followers. What words of comfort for those in His hearing, and for us today.
—
Don’t be troubled, my Father has a big, big house – with lots of rooms! I’m going to go and get it ready, and when it’s all set, I’ll come get you. We will be there together – forever! (My own paraphrase)
—
I often find myself looking up, into the clouds and wondering what it will look like to see Jesus coming for His own. It’s hard to imagine because nothing has ever happened like this before – but it will happen! Praise God for His promises!!
—
So many hymns and praise songs come to mind! These are just a few:
….
-Maybe Today
-Jesus Is Coming Again
-Meeting In The Air
-The King Is Coming
-Lion and The Lamb
-I Believe
-I Will Rise
—
@GrammieSue – praying for you and Steve and for your circumstances. ❤️
—
Jeff and I are off to a Pastor/Wives Retreat today through Wednesday – it is SO much needed! Pleas pray that God ministers to our hearts and that we are greatly encouraged.
—
Have a blessed day sisters! Keep on looking up- today maybe the day He comes! ❤️
❤
Maybe today!!
Thank you God for your promise of salvation. “I will come again and take you to myself.”
Thank you Lord for your Word, full of Truth and promise and the great promise that you are coming back again. Thank you that while we wait your Word guides and leads us in righteousness and obedience and shows us your way, that you bring hope, help, comfort, healing and strength and that we can help others to know of the forgiveness of Jesus so they too can confidently know the hope of heaven. Thank you for your promises and all you have done for us. We love you Jesus. Amen✝️
Amen
Ladies, if you don’t listen to the podcast each week, I would highly encourage you to do so. So much wise insight, words directing our hearts to Truth and so encouraging. I found it especially timely for my heart today❤️
Yes! The podcast guest for week 3, Whitney Capps, preached & testified & exhorted & extolled! Please listen! She has a mindset of confidently waiting, walking with the Spirit, living life forward. Grab a pen. Take notes. She’s tender & truthful & talking back to cancer.
I listen to the podcast after I have read/made notes/read your comments for the week. As I listen I add to my and your discoveries. It is very enriching – so thankful for all the insights after I have processed it first alone with the Lord.
Maranatha!
Prayer prompt for today.
“Thank you for your promise to come back again, for me and all who believe in you.”
❤✝️
Thank you Lord for your promise to return again ❤️
.
“He knew they would not understand all that was soon to take place. So His clear and comforting promise of return was essential… we await His return with sure, steady hope.”
.
May we hold onto this hope without wavering even when we don’t understand. May we walk obediently in the way and live by faith knowing His commands are good and He is trustworthy. When worry or doubt starts to creep in, may we find peace and rest in Him, knowing He holds all things together.
Amen
I’m so enjoying reading about God’s promises throughout scripture & reading everyone’s discussion responses. Thank you Jesus for the hope & future we have knowing You WILL return!
GM She’s!
This could be the most important “grasp” of the whole bible…the hope. Jesus came, died, and rose! And in that—is EVERYTHING! Otherwise nothing really matters for our life. It’s a crap shoot. You might as well go to the bar and call it a day. BUT with Jesus, everything has purpose. The way we spend our time, the way we talk, share, create, work, raise our kids. Even our grief and afflictions have purpose. What a change of outlook. When I was young all I wanted was F.U.N. Excitement, traveling, making money, spending money. But funny- it all got me no where except on my knees wondering why my life was such a mess. Then Jesus picked me up. He showed me a new way to live (albeit slow, since I am a slow learner to give up my fleshy ways!). Thank goodness He is patient and loving. I thank you Jesus, it makes it so much more overwhelming- the gift you gave for ME. A hard headed, stiff-necked Israelite basically- yet You are long-suffering, that none should parish! So although I sing deeply in my heart “Come, Jesus, Come,’ I am thankful that you are still calling to our unsaved loved ones. I feel time is short though, so move in their hearts Lord. We love you, we bless you, we worship you. Amen.
Love this!
I KNEW that gou would mention that song! ☺ ❤ We sang Cece Winan’s version at church. Beautiful arrangement, but I still love the grit in Stephen Whirter’s acoustic version. Hearing so many voices joined in singing those words was awesome! ❤ Beautifully written post, Rhonda; so glad you are feeling better! ❤
you know it! We have a song for every reading! I am so thankful for the gift of song. When I was withering back and forth for two days..all I could do was sing the song “Still Waters” by (hmm, forgot). But over and over it ran through my mind. And the words are so true- Write scripture on your heart for when you need, they are there!! They turn your heart and mind to God no matter what is going on!
Amen ❤️
I get so excited reading about the second coming! ☺️
Thank you and praise our Lord and Savior Jesus who died for our sins, who was resurrected and ascended, and who will come back for us when the time comes!
Happy Monday y’all! Wishing you a safe and happy start to your week wherever you are!!
“Yes, I am coming soon.” And I can’t wait. Selfishly, I hope He takes us ALL home at-the-same-time. My kids and I and all my family and friends! Wouldn’t that be great? However, we know most likely that won’t be the case. Yet we hold onto that hope when our loved ones or even us are called HOME, it’s not good-bye, it’s “see-you-later.” Happy Monday sweeties!
Soon… when exactly is that? ❤️ (Pretend that is a winky face emoji!)
.
I especially love that reading from Hebrews 10. Why have I not really seen the promise there before? (It’s amazing how you can pick up something new at different times.)
Yes. Come, Lord Jesus. We eagerly await for your return. Today’s devotion immediately reminded me of my favorite part of one of my favorite worship songs, “Who You Say I Am”—
“Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God, yes, I am
In my Father’s house
There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God, yes, I am
I am chosen, not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me, not against me
I am who You say I am.”
May these words and Jesus’s promise continue to set our hearts on fire with eagerness for His return. Come, Lord Jesus!
One of my favorites! ❤️
Amen! Love that song ❤️
Yes, it’s one of the best!
Amen, Maria! Another great song that we sing at church. ❤
The promise in these verses ❤️ Thank you, Lord, for reminding and reminding us of Your promised – we can count on it – return.
.
I look around and think surely God won’t allow us to suffer much longer as we are surrounded by never imagined sins, and at the same time I pray He tarries as there are so many loved ones and dear friends in need of salvation.
.
So many songs come to mind, Stepping on the Clouds, Midnight Cry, I Will Rise (Chris Tomlin and others), Rise Again (Dallas Holm).

Agreed, Searching. Stepping on the Clouds- hmmm, I will have to look that one up. I remember when we first heard Rise Again (a solo at church) and I have an easy sheet music for it. ☺❤
Lord you have been faithful in so much, including the many storms of this season that I know you will and are faithful in this most precious promise of your return! Thank you Jesus!
Lord I lift up the requests of the She’s both shared and unshared.
I love how Jesus clearly tells them that he is going to prepare a place for them and that he will come again. How many times did the disciples remember that after Jesus’ ascension? Jesus didn’t want them to worry or doubt. I pray that He would also reassure us with His love this morning. ❤️
Lord, as I wait for that day, help me to live faithfully, trusting in Your Word and holding onto the hope of Your return. Fill my heart with peace as I remember Your promises are true. Thank You for loving me enough to offer me this incredible gift through Jesus.
Amen! Amen!
Sometimes the stress is so thick it’s hard to breathe let alone rest. So much unknown and struggle in life. Father I lift all in prayer whether it’s healing, direction or in the case of my son, Your favor, breakthrough and peace over him for the desires of his heart. Please help me of anxiety. In Jesus name, Amen
Praying with you, Aimee, for these immediate needs ❤️
I will join you in prayer too, Aimee.
Jesus Christ is our defender and teacher. 1 Corinthians 15:24 is truly an amazing verse that describes a future event that will be awesome to witness.
Amen Christ my King!
Jennifer, I feel the same way about 1 Thess 14:16 in today’s reading. The inagery of those words is so incredible and I try to imagine how that would be and the only word I can come up with is awesome.
❤️
Sure and steady hope.
.
Revelation 1:7 ESV
Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.”

I am useless at directions! And that’s putting it mildly! I think if there were to be a gathering of loved ones, near and dear, my sense of direction would come up as a conversation piece, I think there would even be a show of hands!.
My friend picked me up last week, for a day out at one of my favourite places. She asked me if I knew the way, I said yes… Slight pause later, she said.. “I’ll put it in the Sat nav, just in case!”
.
Verse 4 of John 14, felt personal.. Seriously..
.
(And)You know the way to where I am going.
.
(AND) YOU KNOW, the way to where I am going.
.
YOU KNOW!
.
I KNOW.
.
Here’s the thing, I do know, but do I always remember, do I always remember that Jesus and I have a relationship, that I come to the Father, through Him, because of Him and for sure, in spite of myself..
.
I feel, oftentimes I am questioning as Philip did, show me, and I’ll believe, be satisfied!
.
I love that Jesus confirms in these verses that..
He is the WAY. The only way to The Father. There are no back routes or shortcuts, no new ‘roads’ that will push you along, He is the way. Only WAY!
.
The TRUTH. The whole truth And nothing and no-one but Jesus is the truth. My truth is not the truth, nor is the truth of any other person except the truth found in Jesus.
.
And the LIFE. The life we are to live is as He lived His, here on earth. Not the earthly life we think we should have, but to live as Jesus did, doing as He did, and believing. And the life we get to live when we are called home, when He comes for us, is the life He promises us will be, as He prepares a place for each of us.
.
I am encouraged this morning by this TRUTH, for I do have faith, and by and in His grace I am saved!
.
Come, Lord Jesus.
.
Come.
.
AMEN.
.
Blessed Monday dear hearts, covered in love, prayers and hugs..
Always..
