Grace Day

Open Your Bible

Hebrews 11:13-16

Take this day as an opportunity to catch up on your reading, pray, and rest in the presence of the Lord.

These all died in faith without having received the promises, but they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth. Now those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they were thinking about where they came from, they would have had an opportunity to return. But they now desire a better place—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
– Hebrews 11:13-16

I’ve moved around my whole life. When I get married I know that my future husband will be moving around too because he’s studying to be a pastor and jobs can sometimes take you anywhere. After reading this, I am reminded that God is always with me. No matter where life takes us.

I’m heading off to college I’m a few days and I’m filled with nervousness, excitement, and anxiety. I also fear how much I’ll miss my family and friends back home. So thankful for this verse that reminds me that I’m not just going to college to increase my education but also to grow in my relationship with the Lord. And that though I will miss my family I need to keep my sights set on what is eternal. So grateful for these verses!

. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.
    Heb 11.16
I don’t feel worthy, but all that God requires is that we seek first his kingdom, it seems. i.e. not that we are perfect, but that we go out in faith. Now that is reassurance!

  31. Leah Martin says:

  38. Meg says:

I’m feeling crushed by the world this week. Surrounded by things that aren’t for me, temptation at every turn and the enemies lies stronger than ever in my head. Reading this and clinging to the eternal promise reminds this too will fade and the feelings I have of loneliness will disappear someday. Thankful for your hearts and the words you shared. Praying I can be strong.

    1. Stormye Puffer says:

Meg, thank you for sharing this with us. Praying that the Lord would give you strength in this time.

  39. Chay says:

“Admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.” How often do we look around and feel so lonely and search for someone likewise isolated from society by our eternal quest for His Kingdom. I choose the narrow gate, literally the road less traveled. It is exhausting and lonely but I am so grateful for the encouragement to keep going because our rewards are not of this world. My prize is a glorious position at the feet of my Creator. Until then, let me be a light to the world!

    1. Shaykonior says:

      Yes!

  40. Hannah says:

Wow. This made a huge impression on me, and it reminded my heart that we don’t always see the results of our actions, for we walk by FAITH and not by SIGHT. We can plant a seed or water it, but it’s God who does the growing.

  41. Perrin says:

The basis is faith. It’s always faith ❤

  42. Hannah says:

I just found out a couple weeks ago that I am pregnant with my 4th little one. My youngest is only 8 months. Morning sickness has just started and I am so sick. Please pray for me that I would have the strength to get through it all. I’m really down, because I can’t give my children the mommy they deserve right now.

    1. Lauryn says:

Just incase no one has said this to you today..
You are enough, just as you are.
      You’re doing a great job!

    2. Jenny says:

Lord I ask for Hannah to find her place in you. When she feels overwhelmed, you are her place- when she feels tired, you are her place- when she feels sick, you are her place. When she has a need, you are her place. Psalm 90:1 “Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.”

    3. Sarah Engle says:

I just stopped to pray for you, Hannah! ❤

    4. Joy says:

Praying for you Hannah! Just keep on loving those kids even when it’s hard. ❤️

      ♥️♥️♥️

  51. This passage provides an amazing lens to look upon the new year. Not only has the Lord prepared a city for us beyond this life, but he has promised new things yet to come in this life. The comforts and crutches we cling to now pale in comparison to the richness of life ahead. This verse challenges me to venture into the unknown, especially when it seems safer to stay and settle. Onward!’

    1. Sarah D. says:

WOW yes!!! Onward we go!! :)

    2. Christine Marie says:

I love what you said, “the comforts and crutches we cling to now pale in comparison to the riches of life ahead.” This is so true. It’s so easy to keep looking back to what was and to try to cling to the comfort of the known. But I believe God wants us to leave behind our comforts that keep us stagnant and lukewarm, and pursue Him and His grand plans for our lives-often times the unknown! Thank you for the encouraging words Kendra!

      1. So true! What feels comfortable is often what is holding us back. Thanks for the mutual encouragement :)

    3. Kayla Mullen says:

Thank you so much! I’ve been having a hard time letting go of an abusive relationship in my past. But your words moved me and encouraged me to keep walking towards God’s path for me

  52. Mercy Me says:

Thank you to my SRT sisters for your insight. Each day I learn so much from each of you. Looking forward to 2017 as we “lock arms together” in faith and love our Lord and his Word. What a comforting thought for the new year.

  53. Elizabeth says:

He has prepared a city for us…. for those of us that understand this world is not our home, for those of us who pilgrim together, for those of us seeking to be His faithful ambassadors, for those of us trying to be a light in a dark world. Praise Him!!! (Borrowed some of churchmouse’s words from above)

  54. Sarah D. says:

So thankful for SRT! Thankful that it’s been a year since I truly found freedom in Jesus and broke down a barrier of temptations between me and Him. I still stumbled, but I know now God picks me right back up, forgives me, and continues to guide me along this life journey. He is so faithful and refuses to give up on me. Thank goodness for that!! 2017 is when I graduate from highschool. Crazy but exciting times ahead! New year means a fresh start again. Reminds me of the Anne of Green Gables quote, “Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet.” Thankful God loves me despite all the mistakes I have and will make. Praying u all have an amazing new year! Lots of love to you all!

    1. Skigranny1 says:

This is sweet Sarah. Pray you will continue to stand strong in your walk with the Lord. Thankful for you that you know Him at a young age. I was in church most of my life but didn’t know Him until I was 50. I could have done things so differently, but grateful that my eyes were finally opened!

    2. celia davis says:

Sarah, wow, so glad your heart is soft to God’s voice in your life. Never lose that. So glad you are in this world!

  55. Mari says:

I’m so thankful for my sweet friend G who introduced me to SRT! Every morning I wake up looking toward to my devotions. I especially look forward to reading all the comments and joining you in prayer. And I really take in the wise counsel from you women here who have journeyed with the Lord for a long time. It’s been a very rough past 2 and half years as my husband on and off continues to be unemployed and can’t find permanent employment and all the stress that goes along with it. Trust me it’s no fun and we have had one the most trying year ever! A very painful one. I wish I could say I stood here as a strong woman trusting in God, yet I was weak and wept and experienced a lot of anxiety. I’m looking forward to a new year and anticipating a “new” start in all aspects of my life especially my marriage and motherhood. I’m so grateful for Jehovah Jireh MY PROVIDER and provided for my children this Christmas AGAIN. Happy Blessed New Year to you all.

    1. Hope says:

‘His strength is made perfect in weakness’ (2 Corithians 12v9) Our God is Good and Faithful, may He bless you and keep you and yours ❤️

  56. Terri K says:

Amen! Seeking better opportunities in the new year!

  57. Ash says:

I’m so very thankful for this beautiful community of women! I don’t always comment, but I read nearly every comment and prayer request everyday & they mean so much to me. I can’t wait to dive into a new lesson beginning in January… looking forward to starting the year with Jesus!
If you all could be praying for a relationship between two people I really care about, I would appreciate it. It’s been hard & awkward standing in the middle of their discomfort. But most of all, I want them to experience the fullness of forgiveness & second chances. Thanks in advance. :)

  58. Diane says:

Amen to the verses in Hebrews and all the comments. We are set apart for HIS glory when we obey the words spoken through the word in the power of the Holy Spirit. It can be a lonely place. As I shared a Christmas celebration yesterday with my 2 sisters,I was struggling to keep loving them in the face of the superficial, the mockery in their humour. On the way home my sister said I was like a lite in the darkness.Wow, thnaking the Lord for shining His glory. and covering my inside thoughts with His grace.

  59. Pam says:

Well said, J. Your insight gives me strength and hope.

  60. Cristy says:

I am looking forward to that city, and to be with my Savior and my Father.

  61. Verna says:

Well said and amen! We must keep soldiering on!

  62. J says:

Soothed this morning to read and know that there is a community here of complete and devoted support. I find myself in a situation where I feel like the only Christian, alone and left to face some awkward circumstances every day, including today, and wanting to just run and hide and dart about in my fear of others who are in the wrong and making me anxious as a result of their behavior. But I am reminded today that, as churchmouse below said, “No one is left behind”, and that “when one of us stumbles or is fearful, we lock arms”. What a powerful image to take with me as I enter this day, submitting to the Lord’s beautiful will and stepping out in His power and not my own, but admittedly afraid of people and circumstances I know I will have to navigate. God has prepared a city for those of us seeking Him, and that city begins here on earth as well as I bring to mind a community of sisters who are each brave enough to face whatever situation that is before them each day. May we lift our heads high, breathe in our courage that is from the Lord, and lock arms. I wish I had each one of you to walk about with each day, continuously sharing encouragement, counsel and our faith, but truly, I feel that I do have just that even when I simply bring SRT to mind. Thank you to each of you prayer warriors and faith ambassadors and incredibly strong women. I admire and respect each one of you for choosing the difficult choice today (but ironically the simplest choice of all as we submit to our beautiful Savior) to stand. We are pilgrims here, we have a purpose for Him today wherever we may find ourselves, and may we each take heart knowing that we are not alone, that each and every one of the women of SRT are soldiering forward today in faith.

    1. Brandi says:

“Ironically the simplest choice of all” Yes!

    2. churchmouse says:

Using your comment as foundation for my prayers this morning. Thank you, J!

    3. Jessica says:

J, that was wonderfully said and expresses nearly the exact sentiment I was going to write. I’m generally surrounded by Christians, but most are shallow in their beliefs (as I was for many years) and some seem to have just fallen away, ignoring the truth they know and creating so many difficult situations.
Some time ago, I decided to really dig in, immerse myself in the word and commit myself to obedience to God. It’s been a beautiful journey so far and I know it’s only going to get better! But being in this state of mind has left me somewhat disconnected from those around me. We still talk, have lunches, etc., but it’s all surface. There’s no one I can really talk to daily about spiritual matters, exciting or deep books I’m reading and the questions all of these things bring up. Then when I read the first day of this devotional, I thought…she gets it!! It’s so wonderful and affirming to be amongst this group of women at SRT who “get it”.
I just wanted to write and say Thank You! Thank you to the writers who have developed a beautiful and valuable ministry. Thank you to this community of women who share the concerns of their hearts so openly; for those who are further along in your faith journey who can share wisdom and insight; and thank you for simply praying faithfully for one another.
      Happy New Year ladies :)

      1. Kristi says:

Jessica, I feel like your comment could have been mine this morning. Like you, I am so thankful for this community of sisters in Christ who choose every day to walk in the Truth.

    4. candacejo says:

Beautifully written ♥ Reminded me of 1 Kings 19 when Elijah had run in fear from Queen Jezebel and hid in a cave. The Lord asks him what he is doing there and Elijah said, “The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” But that is the passage where the Lord tells him to stand on the cleft of the rock and He passes by in the wind, the earthquake and the fire…but the Lord wasn’t in any of them. He was that still small voice that reminded Elijah he wasn’t ever alone. God was always in control! (He goes on to tell him that He had 7,000 that still didn’t bow their knee to Baal!)

So, yes, we may lift our heads high, breathe in our courage that is from the Lord and lock arms with other believers. But even if no one else is around, we can lock in that faith that God is with us, strengthening and encouraging us each and every day through His Word and His spirit inside us. Blessings and strength to you today! ♥

    5. Deb Rehbein says:

      Amen

    6. J says:

So many thoughtful, wise, and loving comments. What a gift. Taking each one of them into this day for reflection and encouragement. THANK YOU. May each of you be exceedingly blessed today!

  63. churchmouse says:

Thankful that while I’m journeying on my way to the heavenly city, I have SRT and all of you to keep me company. We pilgrim together, seeking to be His faithful ambassadors. And when one of us stumbles or is fearful, we lock arms. No one is left behind. Grateful for each one of you. God bless you all

      1. Leah says:

        Yes! That’s so comforting ❤️️

  64. Annie says:

I needed this so deeply today, His love is good and He has indeed prepared a city for us!
