Grace Day

Open Your Bible

Luke 2:14

Take today to pause from the busyness of the season to catch up on your reading and make space for prayer. Consider making time for one of the ideas from your lists on pages 16–17 to practically and tangibly embody the rhythms of waiting and celebrating. Together we celebrate that Christmas Day has come, and we continue our own wait for Jesus to come again.

Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and peace on earth to people he favors!
—Luke 2:14

I missed getting to read your comments yesterday on waiting. After reading everyone’s comments, this verse came to mind: “but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Praying for all who are weary from waiting and struggling with peace or even the after Christmas blues. Just reading the psalms lifts me up! In my Bible reading today it had a study of the word Hallelujah. The meaning is Praise Yahweh! This struck a note for me since we usually hear parts of the Hallelujah Chorus for Christmas! It reminded me of an organist at my old church who would be so blessed by the music that she would have to say Hallelujah! It was always such a blessing to me. Now I understand, it was a call to worship! May we worship the Lord today!

This Advent season, especially through this week’s readings, I’ve been thinking about Mary and how she responded to all she experienced. How she waited. How she held things. What I might learn and carry in my own heart.
    .
    2025 has been hard.
    .
Luke says Mary “treasured all these things in her heart” (Luke 2:19, 51). She didn’t rush to make sense of it all. She held God’s promises alongside what was unfolding in her life.
    .
Faith seems to grow here—not through striving, but through the quiet work of the heart, savoring God’s promises while waiting.
    .
Simeon and Anna lived this way too, shaped by waiting, Scripture, and attentiveness to the Spirit. Mary did this same work internally, holding both joy and sorrow up against the truth of who God had revealed Himself to be.
    .
Treasuring doesn’t mean understanding. It means trusting God enough to keep the questions close.
    .
Mary reminds me that spiritual maturity often looks like quiet attentiveness, not clear answers.
    .
Praying I can learn to savor my collection of memories and thoughts, the things I know to be true. Holding each event of life against the truth of God, savoring His promises over striving, savoring the truth of Jesus. May faith grow in the quiet work of my ❤️

  15. Cee Gee says:

Two comments on “PEACE” as used in this verse-
    Warren Wiersbe:
“The Hebrew word shalom (“peace”) means much more than a truce in the battles of life. It means well-being, health, prosperity, security, soundness, and completeness. It has to do more with character than circumstances. Life was difficult at that time just as it is today. Taxes were high, unemployment was high, morals were slipping lower, and the military state was in control. Roman law, Greek philosophy, and even Jewish religion could not meet the needs of men’s hearts. Then, God sent His Son!”
    ✨✨✨✨
    MacArthur:
“This is not to be taken as a universal declaration of peace toward all humanity. Rather, peace with God is a corollary of justification (see note on Rom. 5:1). goodwill toward men. Note the alternate rendering in the translators’ note. The Gr. word for “goodwill” is also used in 10:21. The verb form of the same word is used in 3:22; 12:32. In each case, it refers to God’s sovereign good pleasure. So a better rendering here might be “peace toward men on whom God’s sovereign pleasure rests.” God’s peace is not a reward for those who have good will, but a gracious gift to those who are the objects of His good will.”

SONG SHARE- (“Casting Crowns – I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day Live” on youtube.)
    Chorus
But the bells are ringing (peace on Earth)
Like a choir singing (peace on Earth)
Does anybody hear them? (Peace on Earth)
Peace on Earth, good will to men
    Verse 3
Then rang the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor doth He sleep
    (Peace on Earth)
    (Peace on Earth)
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on Earth, good will to men
    Final chorus
Do you hear the bells, they’re ringing? (Peace on Earth)
The light, the angels singing (peace on Earth)
Open up your heart and hear them (peace on Earth)
Peace on Earth, good will to men
    Peace on Earth
    Peace on Earth
Peace on Earth, good will to men
    ✨✨✨✨
    Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤
Peace (God’s peace) in your hearts today!

    1. Rhonda J. says:

That’s one of my favorite songs! As soon as it begins…it conveys such a longing, yet peace. It exemplifies every soul longing for a deeper connection- for Christ, and belonging.

      1. Cee Gee says:

        Same here, Rhonda!❤

    2. Lora K says:

I love that song too and the story behind it makes it even more special.

  16. Kelly (NEO) says:

Peace among those that God is pleased with.

Open our eyes to the ways that please You that You have graciously given in the Bible.
    .
May Your peace fall as we we follow Your ways, Lord.

  17. Tami Cutler says:

I’m hopping back to yesterday’s comments. I so get the after Christmas let down! I’m glad so many of you mention it because it makes me feel “normal”. I feel the same way on the last day of school – I can’t wait until summer vacation and then as I’m walking to my car, I’m like “now what?”

  18. Searching says:

Glory to God! I need to start every day with that focus. I’m pretty consistent at night, thanking the Lord for the day I was blessed with, thinking of at least one thing that stood out to me and praying a few lyrics of whatever praise song comes to mind, along with some of the seemingly countless prayer requests I have heard or read. When I consider the needs and situations, I Thessalonians 5:17 comes to mind – pray without ceasing, and also Don’t Stop Praying (Matthew West).
    .
The after Christmas let down that y’all mentioned yesterday – yep, it gets me every year too. After being at warp speed nonstop, what do I do now? To start, keep studying with my sisters here :)
    .
For those waiting, DELANEY MCLAIN, MICHELLE P, TAYLOR, TINA and so many others – please wait on the Lord and His plan. I wish I had, could’ve saved myself a lot of heartbreak and consequences…
    .
CEE GEE – thank you for highlighting from the devo yesterday,
“We wrestle with God for not being on our timing or doing things in the way we feel like He should. But oh, the way He reveals Himself, oh, the promises that come to fruition when we wait!”
    So much truth.
    .
    BG verse today
    Psalm 103:1-2, plus 3-5
Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
    Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
