Day 20

Grace Day

from the The Life of Moses reading plan

Romans 8:1

BY She Reads Truth

Grace days are for catching up and being still. As we read about the life of Moses in Scripture, let’s pause to meditate on the sufficiency of Jesus Christ as beautifully reflected in the hymn “Rock of Ages.”

Read, hum, or sing the words of the fourth verse of this old hymn, and rest in the truth of Christ’s deep love for us.

While I draw this fleeting breath,
when mine eyes shall close in death,
when I soar to worlds unknown,
see thee on thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee.

from “Rock of Ages”

Standing in the courtroom with the accuser breathing heavy on my neck, I know I am guilty of every charge. My head hangs low; my knees threaten to give way; my heart shudders to near failing: I feel faint. And then, at my most desperate, when it seems there is no hope, Jesus stands. My defender speaks. ” There is now no condemnation for this one. She is in Me.” The accuser shrieks and storms out of the courtroom. I turn and raise my head. There is a spark in Jesus’ eyes as He says, “You are mine. My beloved in whom I am well pleased.” And we embrace, my Brother and me.

Oh boy.. Your metaphor really resonates with me. You see, I work for a property management company and one one if my jobs is going to court for eviction with people who have not payed the rent. Somehow, the crafty enemy, snares me into the lie that I am the guilty one… My energy then is spent in defending myself , rather than rejoycing in the Victory my defender Jesus has already given me. ! Churchmouse ,I will save your beautiful & encouraging words for my next trip to the court house. Thanks !

    3. wow. Thank you Jesus for such a beautiful comparison.

Can’t sleep this morning, so I thought I’d pop on and read today’s passage, and am ever so grateful I did. God continues to speak to me through music, and this song is no exception. I’ve completely fallen in love with the words to this hymn again over the course of this study. They’re so rich and deep, and convey such a powerful message of the sufficiency of Christ. This last verse offers such hope, such expectancy that even as we draw our final breaths here on earth God is already taking us on His wings to “worlds unknown” and showing us more of His goodness and love. Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.

      Amen ❤
