God Is Omnipotent

Psalm 33:6-9, Exodus 15:1-21, Jeremiah 32:26-27, Mark 4:35-41, 1 Corinthians 15:20-28, Jude 1:24-25

Scripture Reading: Psalm 33:6-9, Exodus 15:1-21, Jeremiah 32:26-27, Mark 4:35-41, 1 Corinthians 15:20-28, Jude 1:24-25

God’s omnipotence is perhaps one of the first things we learn about Him. God’s power is how all things came into being, and He uses this power to sustain creation. God has unlimited power over all things at all times. The first passage in today’s reading alone is enough to rattle our finite minds. How does He do it? How is anyone that powerful?

While some days we may be filled with awe and wonder at this reality, other days we may wonder why He chooses to exercise His power in the way He does. Or more often than not, we wonder why He seems to withhold His unlimited power in devastating circumstances. In these moments, we wonder why He doesn’t prevent, provide, or hold some things together when He very well could.

Scripture does not speak to each individual circumstance we will face, but the Bible does tell us that God’s power is expressed according to His nature. Working in harmony with all of His other attributes, His omnipotence is a resounding comfort to us when we remember that nothing is impossible for Him and that nothing can prevent Him from achieving His good purpose.

God holds power over all things, governs all things, and by Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:16–17). And that power, that unshakeable grip on the cosmos, sustains us through every wind and wave that comes our way. God can do anything, and He does not act against His own character or nature: His goodness and holiness, His righteousness and love all participate in the exertion of His power. In time, we can begin to understand His omnipotence in light of His perfect will and all of His attributes.

“God holds power over all things, governs all things, and by Him all things hold together.”

This is where my hope lies. When I can know that the all powerful God is in control of every aspect of my life and that through His power He holds everything together – and that His purpose will be fulfilled, I can rest in perfect peace. He is my strength, He is my defense, He is my salvation. Hallelujah!

It’s easy for me to understand that through Christ, through the power of His Spirit He can keep me from stumbling – but being presented before the glorious presence of God as faultless – that’s a bit harder to grasp – but I’ll take it! …but God! It is all because of the blood of Christ that I can be washed clean! All glory and praise to God!

I’ve been away this week so haven’t had a chance to read through all the comments and take note of the prayer requests but hoping to catch up on all this weekend. Hope you are all doing well!

Blessings to you all on this Friday my dear sisters! ❤️

There is so much I could say right now…
How God has strengthened Steve’s body, feet & legs
    .
How God has provided in so many ways as we work to bring our business back to where it needs to be…
    .
How God has worked behind the scenes bringing so many details together…
    .
How God has shown his grace and mercy throughout this process…
    .
How God has reminded me so many times of His love…
    .
Yes, He parted the waters, He calmed the storm.
    .
    AND HE STILL DOES!
    .
There are still storms…there always will be on this earth. But He walks with us through them and gives us peace.
    .
Hugs and thanks to all who continue to pray for us. We have seen God work in so many ways. Every day has crazy, but He is with us!

God is Omnipotent! If you’re a control freak like me, having omnipotence can sound appealing. Complete control? Sign me up!! And yet, the more I think about it, that’s not a job I want. I can’t imagine the weight that comes with having complete authority over every single thing & person! Thank you God for being EVERYTHING to every one of your children!

  5. Rachel says:

I loved being reminded of God’s power and might. But one little verse in the Exodus passage made me giggle…”Then the prophetess Miriam, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women came out following her with tambourines and dancing…” So not only did all the women apparently own tambourines, but even in the chaos and rush to leave Egypt, the women packed those babies with the rest of their “essentials” ;).

    1. Shar says:

      LOL. I never noticed that.

  6. Traci Gendron says:

I often wondered why God withheld healing from my son. I will never have total understanding. But what I do know is He gave me comfort through it. And I’m so thankful for that.

I often think of Tanner and others as well, when we know miracles happen, so why not for you? But then, there could have been years added on to his life being the miracle?! I know you have said he was not expected to grow up to adulthood and so long? It’s comforting to know that maybe you could have lost him much sooner but God wanted to give you the gift of keeping him longer? We know and trust God knows the perfect plan…but hard not to question it all. What I DO KNOW… you are such a beautiful testimony to us all!

When talking of God’s Omnipotence, I think of the show that’s been on Sunday night that I have caught a few times about planet Earth and all the magnificent happenings in nature! It is fascinating! And to think that there are millions of such unique, characteristics in every living creature is uncontainable to our minds! And nature itself that works with these creatures. But God—He made every single thing and holds it all in power. Even our human bodies can overwhelm our minds to how it functions, our breath, in and out each minute, our heart and organs doing their job….powered by our Mighty God!
We see the power of nature in hurricanes and tornadoes, floods, and fires. And God is still in control, using as he wills or not. We will not understand when thousands are hurt or killed. But it is not for us to try to figure out.
“The Lord will perfect what concerns me” His will for me and my life is in His precious hands when I surrender to him, and he establishes me. Step by step..he is preparing me, and working in me…by trust and faith.
His omnipotence can also give us great power in knowing he has already conquered the devil that is right now lurking to kill and destroy. Satan ONLY has power when we allow it, because the name of Jesus, he HAS to flee! That is an amazing power given to us, that have Jesus in us! I forget often “the same power that rose Jesus from the crave lives in us!” Imagine! He gave the disciples power to cast out demons and to heal the sick!” It is greater for us that he left, so we may have the Spirit in us! That is something that should blow us away, and make us have courage and boldness! But I often shrink back in lack of understanding. Lord- increase my faith and wisdom!

I love the song “Peace Be Still,” the Lauren Daigle version. When the waves threaten to overtake us, in our fear and anxiety…Lord, all-powerful, maker of the sea, he can give us true peace that passes all understanding. Thank you God! May we remember every day, every moment My God, YOUR God is ALL-Powerful. Let that give you peace today…and he has prepared you for such a time as this…to prosper you!!

Happy Friday sweet She’s! Have to admit, I’m SO glad it’s Friday and can sleep in a tad longer tomorrow! In today’s reading I felt Jeremiah 32:26-27 speak out to me. “…Is anything too difficult for me?” Sigh… the answer is NO. And as we we all know, the word NO doesn’t always have to be negative which in this scripture it’s GOOD because our God is good! Even when we don’t understand and it hurts. Our God is and will always be good.

  11. Cee Gee says:

A new song by Michael W. Smith & Charity Gayle: Sovereign Over Us – the lyrics kind of fit today’s read. Partial lyrics:
    You are wisdom unimagined
    Who could understand your ways
    Reigning high above the heavens
    Reaching down in endless grace
You’re the lifter of the lowly
    Compassionate and kind
You surround and you uphold me
And your promises are my delight
Your plans are still to prosper
    You have not forgotten us
You’re with us in the fire and the flood
    You’re faithful forever
    Perfect in love
    You are sovereign over us
    .
I agree that the last sentence of the devo gives us too much credit as written. Possibly the staff was trying to convey that as we get to know God and gain knowledge of His attributes in totality, we have a better chance of trusting His will and plan. That I can agree with.
    .
    Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤

  12. Kimberly says:

God’s omnipotence isn’t proven by a life without chaos — it’s proven by His power to bring light from darkness, life from death, and peace in the middle of the storm.

    Strength to endure
    Hope to believe
    Faith to trust
    Isaiah 40:29-31

  13. Erica Chiarelli says:

I’m not sure we will ever truly even begin to understand this but accept maybe…it’s beyond our comprehension, I’d say. God is great, we give Him all the praise – He’s the Name above all Names!
    Everything about Him is amazing!

  14. Maria B says:

I love the honesty in today’s devotion as it so simply captures how most of us feel about God’s power, especially when tragedies happen and we are left wondering “Why didn’t you stop it, God?” Yes, we know that He loves us and we don’t have to understand everything (even when we want to), but I also think it’s so important to acknowledge those feelings and bring them to Jesus, even as He is comforting us through the trials and hard moments. God is with us to sustain us and give us strength. That is His promise to us and one we can count on.

  15. Aimee D-R says:

Help me to trust always even when I don’t understand. In Jesus name, Amen

  16. Searching says:

I can’t really agree with the devo where it says “In time, we can begin to understand His omnipotence in light of His perfect will and all of His attributes.”
    .
God’s omnipotence – the power of God is unlimited, I believe and totally accept that fact. Yet I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of understanding. I can’t even understand many (most?) ordinary earthly things … how old fashioned telephones (like my wired landline ) work for example, much less today’s technological world, much less God’s omnipotence – but accept as truth and believe, absolutely.

Two of the verses that stood out to me today –
Jeremiah 32: 27 “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?”
    .
    Psalm 33: 9 For He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.

Humming an old chorus we probably all know … My God Can Do Anything (anything, anything) and will listen again today to a new release (last week I think) by Phil Wickham, What An Awesome God – I heard it for the first time yesterday, an expansion of Rich Mullins’ Awesome God.

TANYA EVANS – thank you for the update, thankful for HR rep’s kindness and her work on your behalf. Continuing to pray for total resolution.

  17. Kelly (NEO) says:

Totally agree that “more often than not, we wonder why He seems to withhold His unlimited power in devastating circumstances. In these moments, we wonder why He doesn’t prevent, provide, or hold some things together when He very well could.”
    .
It is these times of feeling totally helpless when His power does not seem to be enough that we question His goodness and love.
    .
    Exodus 15:11
“Lord, who is like you among the gods?

Who is like you, glorious in holiness,

    revered with praises, performing wonders?”
