God Is Holy

Leviticus 20:23-26, Isaiah 6:1-7, Psalm 99:1-9, Hebrews 7:26-28, 1 Peter 1:14-16, Revelation 4:8

Scripture Reading: Leviticus 20:23-26, Isaiah 6:1-7, Psalm 99:1-9, Hebrews 7:26-28, 1 Peter 1:14-16, Revelation 4:8

As God’s image-bearers, we are called to reflect His holiness—“You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy” (Leviticus 20:26). It is a seemingly impossible task. We have all been stained by sinful actions, and we daily bear the weight of a sinful nature. Try as we might, we all “fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

When confronted with God’s holiness in the heavenly throne room, Isaiah’s response was nothing short of terror: “Woe is me for I am ruined because I am a man of unclean lips” (Isaiah 6:5). That’s how stark the contrast is between God’s perfect, holy nature and our utter lack of holiness. It’s not even close.

To be holy is to be set apart, uncommon, and raised up. God is all of these things, and we are not. But His response to Isaiah’s woeful plea was not to leave Isaiah ruined before the throne. Instead, He extended mercy and made atonement for Isaiah’s sin (vv.6–7). God, in His perfection, has made a way for His people to be holy.

Because of Jesus’s sacrifice for us on the cross, all things are being made new (Revelation 21:5). We have been given God’s Spirit to walk with Him and practice holiness daily. Someday, all who know Christ will be perfected in Him. On that day, we will reflect God’s holiness to all creation, just as God designed it to be from the beginning.

In the meantime, God has given us the righteousness of His Son, making us holy in His sight. We are now set apart as His holy people (1Peter 2:9) and each of us a temple for His Spirit. The holy presence of God that once made Isaiah tremble lives inside of believers. Our hope in Christ is so sure that God already regards us as people who are righteous, who have become holy, just as He is holy.

I love how we see the Gospel on display in Isaiah’s vision. We see God’s holiness, the sinful nature of humanity, and God’s mercy in making atonement for our sin, graciously washing away the iniquity we could never wash ourselves of.

Holiness isn’t about achieving flawlessness. It’s about belonging to a holy God. It’s about letting His presence shape us. And in a world that so often feels loud, divided, and messy, there’s peace in being reminded: our God is holy. Always has been. Always will be. ❤️

I’m just not sure we have the ability to truly understand the magnitude and then define what God’s holiness is. And, to think we are regarded as holy just seems such a stretch to me because most days I am so far from that even though my hearts desire is to pursue it. Wrapping my head around the way the Lord sees me, loves me and desires a relationship with me is really just beyond my understanding.
Thank you, Jesus. Thank you ❤️

Please pray for my sister, Karen. Just a couple months ago, I was praising because she had not had a drink for more than a year. This morning, she confessed to me that she has been drinking again for the past two and a half weeks, because she is so depressed and lonely, and sees nothing good in the world or her life. She had stopped drinking by taking a medication the doctor prescribed that causes violent vomiting if she uses any alcohol. She’s stopped taking the medicine. She promised me she will begin taking it again tomorrow. Please pray she can refrain from drinking today and follow through with taking the medicine tomorrow. And please pray for healing from the depression and spiraling thoughts that have led her back to alcohol.

I am praying for all requests, especially those of you who are caregivers. You have such a difficult job, and carry it with love and devotion. I pray for God’s strength and blessings upon you as you care for those you love. I’m also praying for each of us who carry burdens for prodigal children nieces, nephews and other loved ones who so desperately need Jesus in their hearts. May God speak to each of their hearts and work in each heart to open them to His love and saving grace.

The holiness of God is so awesome. When I ponder it, I am amazed that He is willing to even consider me. It is only because of Jesus that God can even look upon me. So thankful today for the blood of Jesus, which covers every ugly sin, and makes it possible for me to have a relationship with my Holy God. I look forward to heaven when I can join in singing, “Holy, holy, holy is He who was and is and is to come!”

  16. Marla says:

    Psalm 103:1-4 TPT
With my whole heart, with my whole life, and with my innermost being, I bow in wonder and love before you, the holy God! [2] YAHWEH, you are my soul’s celebration. How could I ever forget the miracles of kindness you’ve done for me? [3] You kissed my heart with forgiveness, in spite of all I’ve done. You’ve healed me inside and out from every disease. [4] You’ve rescued me from hell and saved my life. You’ve crowned me with love and mercy.
And for this, I am beyond grateful❤️

  18. Lisa H says:

    Hello, SRT Shes,
My friend Melanie says that Andrew (9) will likely have a stent put in his brain to relieve the pressure from the extra fluid. She asks for prayers that the procedure be scheduled early in the day, because of the fasting. Also that this doesn’t mean he has to give up ju-jitsu and amusement park rides.
Pray also that the timing doesn’t mess up their ability to support their older daughter (13) who gets to play Belle on Thursday night in their Christian school’s Beauty and the Beast.
They are awaiting results from the lumbar puncture last week and likely will have another more detailed MRI.
    Thank you!

    1. Teresa Donley says:

Lisa, I am praying for Andrew, and that the stent relieves pressure in his brain and allows him to lead the active life he loves. I pray the timing of the procedure works for him and his family. And I pray for God’s peace and comfort during all of this for Andrew and his family.

  23. Susan Burley says:

Thank you Jesus for washing us clean & setting us apart! I am continuing to pray for the requests shared in the comments. I got a prayer journal, so I don’t forget any of them! For those who were so faithful in praying for Seth, progress is slow but steady. He was able to be taken off of the ECMO machine yesterday as he is able to breathe on his own now. He hasn’t woken up from his coma yet, so he has an MRI today to determine the extent of his brain bleed & damage caused by the accident. His family are remaining steadfast in their faith & are spreading God’s light amidst this difficult time!! It’s so inspiring. Happy Tuesday!

    1. Teresa Donley says:

Susan, it’s such encouraging news that Seth was able to come off ECMO. I’m praying that he will continue to improve and come out of the coma.

    2. Rhonda J. says:

Praying for Seth. This would be a horrible situation for parents, I am glad that they have strong faith.

Love your comments, SHES, and I am thinking of Chris Tomlin’s song Holy Forever.
    (Holy)
    (Holy)
A thousand generations falling down in worship
To sing the song of ages to the Lamb
And all who’ve gone before us and all who will believe
Will sing the song of ages to the Lamb
    Your name is the highest
    Your name is the greatest
Your name stands above them all
    All thrones and dominions
    All powers and positions
Your name stands above them all
    And the angels cry holy
    All creation cries holy
    You are lifted high, holy
    Holy forever
If you’ve been forgiven and if you’ve been redeemed
Sing the song forever to the Lamb
    .
    Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤

  30. Nikki Smith says:

Thank you Lord for forgiving our sins and giving us hope so secure that you already count us in your family and as your people

  31. Rhonda J. says:

Holy is a word that seems abstract to me—not quite able to grasp it, because we don’t SEE Holy. We don’t even see it in many churches. You can go into many american churches today and they are unadorned auditorium- simple and …normal. How can we grasp “Holy?” For no one has seen our Holy God completely.
But now the God in flesh has come, and we have seen and we have tasted to our ability. We are to be holy as he is Holy. We are to be righteous, clothed in him. Dying daily to our fleshy, sinful nature. Lord, the only way I can do this is to know you, more and more each day. My soul longs for this, but I can get so caught up in the worldly way.
    “Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
calls for songs of loudest praise..” You deserve all my song and praise Lord, because you are Worthy and Holy! You deserve reverence and Awe. Yet you love us enough to let us be a part of your great story, a disciple of Jesus, a minister to those that don’t know, a preacher to the sinners, a lover of the word.

“The holy presence of God that once made Isaiah tremble lives inside of believers.” We know God lives in us, who believe in Him, but the way it’s worded in this portion of the devotional made me really pause. It gives me an overwhelming feeling of awe and gratefulness as I think about the amazing love God has for us, and Jesus’ sacrifice, which we carry in our hearts as Christians, so that the Holy Spirit could dwell in us. The omnipotent Creator of the Universe that it is God, resides in us through the precious blood of Christ. Thanks you God, for loving us that fiercely.

    1. Annette Smith says:

That was the part that made me pause also. What beautiful wording!

God alone is awesome. Today my boss and I have to go to HR for a meeting. She will have to formally rescind the warning of disciplinary action. She apologized to me in an email and will formally apologize to me at this meeting. This was a lot of drama and trauma. Thank God that He vindicated me. HR will facilitate an open discussion between us. I don’t want all of that but I am grateful to God for removing this write up!It was so unjust because what she wrote me up for was not even a job description for me or anyone who works there. It was like writing someone up for not bringing something to the spring potluck. Our workplace is utter chaos. To God be the glory. I appreciate you Shes for your prayers and encouragement. I needed those prayers and comments.

It means so much. And Rhonda I will join you in praying for your niece Sav. This song came to mind today by 10th Ave North.
As I walk this great unknown
    Questions come and questions go
Was there purpose for the pain?
Did I cry these tears in vain?
I don’t want to live in fear
I want to trust that You are near
Trust Your grace can be seen
    In both triumph and tragedy
    I have this hope
In the depth of my soul
In the flood or the fire
You’re with me and You won’t let go
But sometimes my faith feels thin
Like the night will never end
    Will You catch every tear
Or will You just leave me here?
    But I have this hope
In the depth of my soul
In the flood or the fire
You’re with me and You won’t let go
May we all have the hope of Jesus deep in our souls. Thank you all again:)
