Todays lesson relates to me so much. I have always been so judgemental on myself but had never pieced together the significance of cultural toxins in my judgement.

I think like many young people nowadays the media is steering everyones eyes towards THEIR idea of "perfect", which is why we have so much difficulty when someone who is different comes along.

"…Do not imitate what is evil but what is GOOD"
This part of 3 John 1:11 really spoke to me. We spend so much time trying to change that in some ways the paths we're taking are evil and I know they are most definitely polluting my being.
I so want to be able to let God GUARD my heart from these cultural toxins so I can lead my life close to him.

Realized between this study and a study on anxiety that I'm doing with the women of my church that when I sit down to write positives and negatives about my life– these cultural toxins totally show up.

I can see my heart skewed by some of the tv shows I watch as well as some other not so easy toxins like the attitudes of my coworkers. I was reminded of Philippians 4:6-9 But especially verse 7: "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

God will GUARD our hearts!! Praise him!

Thinking today about 'cultural toxins,' specifically about their influence on family life … how our culture teaches us – has taught ME – to focus on ME instead of WE (the family unit). We've moved so far away from God's design for marriage and family that even as I struggle to get it back on track – with God's help – I can barely know what 'on track' is!
