I am finding Nehemiah to be a fascinating biblical figure. Never thought much about him before. He truly personifies a good leader. This section really spoke to me….

Verse 5:18(NLT) “The provisions I paid for each day included one ox, six choice sheep or goats, and a large number of poultry. And every ten days we needed a large supply of all kinds of wine. Yet I refused to claim the governor’s food allowance because the people already carried a heavy burden.

He refused to claim the governor’s food allowance because the people already carried a heavy burden. WOW! Very unselfish leader.

9So I said, “The thing that you are doing is not good. Ought you not to walk in the fear of our God to prevent the taunts of the nations our enemies?

I so want to pick this up and be enthralled in it and amazed and enlightened but I’m really struggling to get through it. I just started this plan yesterday, maybe this isn’t a good place for me to start? I don’t really understand what is taking place and reading it is like watching paint dry.

Not trying to be negative, I just don’t understand how to read the bible without spending hours trying to figure it out.

hi crystal! you might want to start at the beginning of the one year plan, in Genesis. that way you’re reading the story in order. it can be tough getting a feel for what’s going on if you read out of order. SRT is also starting 2016 with a study in Genesis that you might be interested in.
you don’t sound negative at all. I think we can put a lot of pressure on ourselves when we read the Bible. sometimes we just have to be obedient and read and ask God to show us what he wants to teach us.
if you want more help, a study Bible is a good tool because it can give you some background on what you’re reading.
I hope that helps. don’t give up! the Bible is for everyone, and God has things he wants to say to you through it :)

Rachel, great encouragement and so true! :)

Great point Rachel. Keep plugging away Crystal but maybe start at the beginning with Genesis on Jan 1. It has been a great year in the Bible. This new year I’m gonna do it again but in a different version!

    2. Claire says:

Hi Crystal, I just started on the 23rd and find I’m in the same boat….I have been struggling and find I am just reading it to get through it so I can mark it off as ‘read’ without getting anything out of it or understanding what is going on :/ I am going to take Rachel’s advice and start at the beginning as well and hope that helps!

Nehemiah has been such an interesting read this time around!

I did a little digging and found out that Nehemiah was the cup bearing to Queen Esther’s step-son, how crazy is that?

and Nehemiah and Ezra we once one book because they overlap so much – one recounting the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls and the other the restoring of the temple.

I don’t think I ever realized that all three OT books (Esther, Ezra, & Nehemiah) we all taking place around the same time. this study through the year plan has definitely given me better perspective on the plot of God’s story.

Is there a devotional content on the devotional page? I can’t see anything…

    1. shereadstruth says:

Hi Abbey! The #365DaysofTruth plan is a yearlong plan of reading the whole Bible! Yay! It doesn't have additional devotional content, but you can find those in our other community plans! Right now, we are studying The Gospel of John! I hope you'll join us there too!
