He is great. He chooses.  His name endures. He is compassionate. His love is eternal. He is the Lord of lords. He reigns. He is intentional. He leads. He rescued us. He means everything. He remembers.
A lot of amazing things in these verses. Beautiful reminders of Gods steadfast love… and then that ending! Woof! Wow, dashing babies on rocks?! How do we reconcile that? Interested in your thoughts ladies. Blessings.
I like how psalms of praise and sorrow are back to back. God doesn’t just demand that we praise him and hide what’s bothering us. He wants to hear it all and invites us to lay the hard things in our life on him.
4to him who alone does great wonders,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
We could just remember that one phrase from this Psalm and understand God so well!
Psalm 136 this morning reminded me of God’s faithfulness and love throughout the whole story of creation until now and into the future. What a great reading closer to the end of the year when we have read and meditated on all these stories since January.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His [steadfast] faithful love endures forever” (Psalm 136:1). How I rejoice in the faithful love of God! His love is an unchanging constant in my life. My restless soul has finally found rest in His love. His love quiets me like a mother quiets a weary child. His love embraces me and secures me. It causes me to know joy. Thank you, God, for your faithful love!
Reading over 136:10-16 and thinking about not only God’s mercy but how He is powerful and just. How He overthrew Pharaoh, who’s heart was hard towards Moses and Himself. How God used the plagues to free His people. Can you wrap your heads around that? That this same God values you just as much! He is powerful and can and will use the most dire of circumstances to reach you, whether you are Pharaoh or Moses. And these stories aren’t seen as this terrible thing God had to do, but how God will do anything to save you! I’m going through trails right now in my own life. God has dragged me through them but I cling to Him! I’ve made a mess of things… but to know that God can still use me and still values me is just so humbling . Makes me think of Matt 6:26.
Rachel, you are right! God values you and He is using you even now as you go through trials. And alongside every trial you are going through, you can write “And His lovingkindness is everlasting”.
The NASB reads “For His lovingkindness is everlasting.” Lovingkindness is my favorite word ever. It seems to be a word the world doesn’t recognize because every time I type it on my computer, it shows as a misspelling or not recognized as a word. Maybe that’s because it’s a word that is only used of God. The Hebrew word is “hesed” and refers to God’s covenant love for His people. It is His gracious, merciful, and unchanging love for us. It’s a love we can never fully understand because it is God’s love, but we can rest in it and humbly give thanks and praise Him. For His lovingkindness is everlasting ❤️
Lovingkindness is definitely not recognized by spell check! I think you are right, though, only God can show lovingkindness, so it’s certainly not a description of our human, finite, imperfect, sinful love!
Psalms 136:23 He remembered us in our low estate
24 and freed us from our enemies.
25 He gives food to every creature.
26 Give thanks to the God of heaven.
There’s so much to be grateful for as we enjoy and explore here in Disneyland! He’s not only provided for us but he’s given us friendships on a whole new coast that are with those who are faithful to Him – he’s always in our corner as long as we keep Him as our foundation!
