Isaiah 59 feels like it was written for THIS WEEK. I love how the Word is alive throughout time.
In Isaiah 61 I also love the discussion that even the uncircumcised are able, through Godly living, to be recognized as righteous. It helps me see how we might see unsaved people who lived before Christs sacrifice in eternity.
He is strong. He hears. We need God. He brings salvation. He is generational. He shines over us. He shows mercy. He is always there. He redeems. He plans us. He gives joy. He is the judge. He doesn’t have favorites. He is the example. He looks at the heart.
11 For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,
and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
to sprout up before all the nations. – Isaiah 61:11
Reading Isaiah 60/61 and Romans 2, I’m struck by how wide God’s righteous judgment is. He is simultaneously steadfast in merciful kindness while not allowing one sin to go unpunished before His perfect holiness. He does this perfectly in His Son, and we are not to boast in ourselves and negate His singularly perfect sacrifice.
2For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
and his glory will be seen upon you.
3And nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.
Isaiah 51 speaks so loudly to what romans is sharing. We must have our hearts pierced, in a sense the circumcision of the heart, to fully give ourselves to the Lord. He doesn’t simply want followers if he rules. He wants souls fully alive in living life in and through Him. So many of us simply follow the rules but don’t find freedom from the rules. Freedom comes from seeing the love God has for us in the boundaries he has lovingly provided. Mary saw this in the magnificat when she proclaims “my souls proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit rejoiced in God my savior. He has looks upon the lowely…” the same words as Isaiah 51 were proclaimed by Mary when she greeted Elizabeth. Lord make my heart like yours and your mothers. Give me your most precious and sacred heart.
Hi friends, I would like to ask for a little prayer. I spend a lot of time on my phone and online. I am trying to limit social media usage so I can have my eyes and ears open more for Jesus. I would like to ask for the genuine desire to fill more of my time with Him and give Him whatever part of my heart is looking for approval or joy through Facebook or Instagram, etc. I would appreciate more time in His word and my “busyness” gets in the way!
19 The sun shall be no more
your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon
give you light;
but the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
I love how God reminds us that we do not need anything or anyone else to be fulfilled but that he is the one who brings the light into our life.
I also have a question, I get confused on when God discusses “circumcision,” exactly what is that referring to?
Since circumcision is the sign that God made with Abraham, all Jews were circumcised to symbolize this covenant. So when Paul brings this up to the Jews he is saying that a lot of them were justifying themselves by the law–things like Jews must be circumcised. But a true “circumcision” or sign of being one of God’s followers comes from the heart of a person and not how they are following the law simply for the sake of following it.
Romans 2:29 “……And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by the Spirit…..” So thankful that the Holy Spirit is the only one who can change hearts! Praying He is at work in some ❤️ today!!
“When outsiders who have never heard of God’s law follow it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by their obedience. They show that God’s law is not something alien, imposed on us from without, but woven into the very fabric of our creation. There is something deep within them that echoes God’s yes and no, right and wrong.” I love that his yes and no, right and wrong are woven into us.
Up and ready for a workout with my Thrive family! But I had to get up and give thanks and be sure to I kiss my Bible time to start off this beautiful day so can I share my takeaways with you?
Two verses stuck out to me today! The first refers to the light in the dark God always shines upon is that I’ve felt a lot.
Isaiah 59:1 Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
Also
Romans 2:13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.
Being a Doer and not just a talker is what matters!
It’s so good to see a picture of what heaven will be like! So completely unlike what we are living in right now. And the reminder in Romans of what our lives should look like if we are truly followers of Jesus. Lord, help me live like your child, today and every day.

1Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
God will do things swiftly- if it’s in his timing.

I’ll be praying for that Brittany – that’s a wonderful desire! Love to you sister!
Praying for you, sister! This is an area I struggle with as well.

Debbie, Amen. This same verse caught my attention as well!
His kindness leads us to repentance…He’s so patient with and kind to us! Praying for my mothering to look more like that…
Yes, Lord. Make us moms who love like you.
I agree!
