He caries our pain. We are healed by Him. He takes it all. He forgets. He is Lord. He called us. He is compassion. He isn’t angry. He doesn’t rebuke. He will always love us. We must come, taste, and see. His thoughts are higher. All who come are welcomed. We must have faith.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed. – Isaiah 53:5
I love Isaiah 55 because it is such a clear picture of how God offers salvation. He beckons sinners to come and receive. To take rivers of living water and the bread of life, to no longer hunger or thirst. They need only come and receive. Listen and believe.
Welcome! Sometimes I read the comments here first, as a pre-reading warm up. It helps me pull out things from the text and be on the look out for connections. I so enjoyed this reading, but the last few days have been tough to get through without my eyelids being heavy.
Wow! 3 new readers at once! Welcome ladies!! I stated in January/ i am LOVING how daily committing to this has only given me strength and peace and desire to keep knowing God’s word more! Some of the readers use Bibles with commentaries on the side to help understand passages. I find the comments here often give me deeper appreciation of the passages and even how they relate. I take time to read even if comments are years old, and i go back a few days to be sure i don’t miss super insight from others like yourself! I hope you will join us!!
Last year I read the songs of Jesus by Timothy Keller. It is a year of devotions in the Psalms. It has a bible verse then a short explanation and a daily prayer. Short, sweet and gets you in the habit of spending time with God everyday.
This is my first reading as well. I’m starting on a new journey from being away from God for the past few years to being interested on getting to know Him better through His words. What are your recommendations? I’m starting with the year plan but i’m afraid i won’t complete it because of how new this is to me. Do you recommend any smaller plan i can start? Or the year plan is perfect for my situation?
We moved this summer and I fell close to a month behind… It’s important to me to do this so I made time little by little to catch up. I set my alarm to wake up before my kids and read on the app in bed so I don’t wake them up by moving to the porch (my preference). Some days I don’t get as much time to pray or digest as id like but I’m in the word daily and am loving the knowledge and comfort from knowing the full story!!
I always try to read it from my bible in the morning, but if I can’t, it’s nice to catch up reading in bits on the app during the day. Knowing I don’t always have to read it all at once can be helpful on crazy days.
Hey everyone! I’m trying to complete the bible in a year plan! I’m on day 3 but I usually only go to a month and I quit! What do you guys do to help you stick with the plan!?
Good for you, Sarah! Three days is a great start :) One little thing that helps me is to just pick it up on the correct day if I miss a couple days for whatever reason. If I try to catch up by going back through the days I missed, I end up getting even more behind because it’s a lot more reading time. I wish I could say I never missed a day but I do! It helps me to tell myself, “I’m going to do this every day…now what is my backup plan for the times I don’t meet this goal?” I have found that God graciously meets me in his Word whether I am perfectly consistent or not. It’s freeing, which makes me able to be more consistent. That’s just me! :)
Hi Sarah! Part of what helps me is the comments here..I want to know how others are processing the word, even the harder parts to read. This is my first time sticking with it and I haven’t missed a day yet. Part of it is because the more consistently it becomes a part of your day the more you start looking forward to it. Now, I know I will be doing this next year too..there is so much richness letting the stories of the Word build up on each other. I look forward to this time every morning!
You’re off to a great start… I like to listen to the Word as I follow along on the SRT app. Just play it on your Bible app (I use Bible Gateway) and away you go! Sometimes I forget about the comments and go back and read them later…sometimes I’m just behind but get back going whenever I can get some time. Once I’m there it is easy to do a day or two catch up if needed… Like now! :)
I have a question for you ladies. I am dealing with an “incurable” bladder disease. What is some good scripture for me to read and meditate on that God does provide miracle healings and that I might be healed from this if it is his will?
I am so sorry to hear that, Sheena! You are certainly in my prayers.
For several years I had migraines that nobody could explain. It was exhausting and a little alienating. So, while I cannot understand exactly how you are feeling, I certainly can empathize.
I was always drawn to the story of the bleeding woman found in the Gospels during this time. She had suffered for so long, and I am certain tried every remedy that was out there. Touching Jesus’ cloak was her last hope, and she was healed.
Just remember, while it may or may not be God’s will to heal you of this particular ailment, the fact that He loves you will never change.
I once had I.C an was cured by drinking prescription Nystatin and drinking marshmallow tea. It took over six months of trying different healing methods but I believe it was those two that healed me.
I’ve been reading Barclay’s commentaries on the New Testament along with the chapters and he adds a lot because he has a rich understanding of the Greek so here are some things that stood out to me: Justify in Greek doesn’t mean to prove your right it means to account or reckon a person, so “God treats the sinner as if he had not been a sinner at all”. One other take away from the first verses when Paul is describing his qualifications- “The law lays down what a man must do the gospel lays down what God has done”. There are some truly blessed words in today’s reading!
Sooo much in both of today’s readings! I love this part from Isaiah 55:10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
What a promise! His word is truth and it will accomplish what He desires. We can rest in that truth and serve God because of love, not law..and as Paul says in Romans 1:5 “The righteous shall live by faith. “
Isaiah 54:14 In righteousness you shall be established;
you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear;
and from terror, for it shall not come near you.
I’ve learned that fear can only paralyze me from the good God has planned for me in this lifetime. If something is life-threatening, I always tell myself and others, think long and hard on it… But if doing something is scary but it’s not going to hurt you and could possibly help you, it’s a sign of taking Faith to grow as a person and take that chance!
Yes I’ve been convicted of this lately as well! God doesn’t give us a spirit of fear- so it is so helpful to look beyond the fear. I like to think of what I would do or how God might use me if I’m not afraid to do whatever it is in afraid of. And usually that image of love >fear is enough to move me!
Erica- I was just reading through comments. Not sure what Jeanette listens to but I listen as well on Bible Gateway and follow along on the SRT site. I really like doing it that way. :)
Seek the lord while he may be found.

Today was my first day in this plan! I love Is. 55:11 and the reminder that fruit always springs from the word of God.

Love the prophecy of Christ! ♥️

Me too Bethany. I’ve had the app downloaded for a long time but it just sat there. The chapters from Isaiah are some of my favorite.
This was my first reading

Isaiah 55:12, promise of being lead forth in peace is so trusting

Isaiah 54 is such a comfort when you’re walking through a desert time in your marriage! This was providential timing for me this morning!
Prayers for your marriage Laura!

Isaiah and Romans- probably my two favorite books of the Bible! What a beautiful Savior, Redeemer, and Lord! =)
Amazing to read Isaiah 53! I was not familiar with this passage, so cool to see prophecy 700 years before Jesus came! Such great readings today!
I was thinking the same thing this morning. I listen to mine while I get ready for work and I immediately though WOW that’s a prophecy for Jesus!
What do you use to listen to the bible?
Erica- I was just reading through comments. Not sure what Jeanette listens to but I listen as well on Bible Gateway and follow along on the SRT site. I really like doing it that way. :)
It’s amazing how he fulfilled it all
Yeah how awesome!!!!
