Don’t put your hopes in anything but Him. He is the one true God and He ends all. The Alpha and Omega. Look to Him not the things He created but to the creator Himself. The things of God are not easy. This is for the mission but He provides.

“ 22And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.”

Isaiah is definitely kind of hard to understand. But what I am consistently understanding through Isaiah and acts is the awesome, all-consuming faith of these followers of Christ! Walking around naked for three years? Preaching love to a crowd that just tried to kill you? That’s all-consuming faith.

  9. E Hong says:

20And when they heard it, they glorified God.
26Then Paul took the men, and the next day he purified himself along with them and went into the temple, giving notice when the days of purification would be fulfilled and the offering presented for each one of them. -ellie

I’ve been reading it alongside the MacArthur study bible and have found that very helpful. Isaiah is also much easier to understand if you have some understanding of the book of Revelation, as some of the prophecies are fulfilled in the Old Testament age and some are to be fulfilled in the final judgment.

  11. Sharon Ide says:

Paul uses his position as a Jew and his personal testimony to preach the gospel of Christ to this mob who has beaten him and wants him killed. This is winsomeness in speaking truth in love. He does not sugarcoat the gospel truth, but he does appeal to them with his whole being.

    Thanks Katie Collier!

There’s a podcast called the Bible Recap with Tara Lee Cobble that I’ve been listening to in conjunction with some of our readings! Each podcast is 5-10 minutes and it just briefly explains some context and what’s going on. It’s been so helpful for me while reading Isaiah!

That is such a valid point, Marlaena. So many of us would probably turn our backs and not do it out of shame or criticism from others but God is never wrong and he never leaves us, he would walk with us through whatever he requested us to do and be proud of us for standing up to this evil world by doing what he commanded us.

  15. Marlaena says:

“3 Then the Lord said, “As my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and a portent against Egypt and Cush,” This got me thinking, I mean 3 years!? What are we willing to do for God? If He told us to do some ridiculous thing and we knew it was from God, would we do it?

  16. Eleanor Hyde says:

acts 21:27-36. we should never assume facts. this is an example of how assuming something, and stating it in the case, creates such chaos and uproar. no one can be understood, innocent people are driven out from the church. therefore, believe all innocent unless you have seen with your eyes. let’s be honest – is it really worth the hassle?

  17. Dianne says:

As I try & get closer to God (I really feel like I am getting there) of course I have a long way to go. It seems like the enemy is coming at me every way possible. I need lots of prayer. I can’t do this on my on & I don’t feel like I can talk to my family because they are to close to the situation. Please keep me in your prayers!

    1. Leah says:

If the enemy is trying to tear you down then you know you are giving him reason to by growing closer to the Lord. Keep it up! Pray for strength and remember that the Lord is always there protecting us. We just need to call on Him. Keep seeking Him :) praying for you!

    2. Mallory scott says:

praying for you. God will help you get through it, as he always will.

  18. Katrina P says:

Paul’s restraint and calm in Acts 21 today is a reminder to always remain calm and Trust in the process of what was meant to take place. He chose peace in a time of chaos instead of reacting to the craziness around him… 37 As Paul was about to be brought into the barracks, he said to the tribune, “May I say something to you?” And he said, “Do you know Greek?….

    I mean shut* typo sorry

  20. Shirl says:

Isaiah 22:22 And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. Such power and bravery. Reminds me of revelations: what God opens no one can shit

  21. Kate says:

    “Upon a watchtower I stand, O Lord,
    continually by day,
and at my post I am stationed whole nights.”

For me, this is a beautiful way of describing Motherhood. Right now I am needing a lot of strength for the continual enormity of looking after our little person. It really is a 24/7 job!
I have just started to recognise the NECESSITY of taking weekly Mummy time-out. It is not selfish, it is self care.

    1. Claire says:

You are right, you need to keep yourself strong to do what you need each day therefore taking time to yourself is part of caring for the whole family which includes you, best wishes

    2. Sara says:

Yes! It IS continual and it IS enormous! I have never prayed harder in my life than in those first few months of motherhood. Praying for His strength to sustain you!

    3. Courtney says:

You are so right! It took me way too long to realize this! We need time to feed ourselves, literally and figuratively to be the best moms we can be to our child(ren).

    4. Christina D. says:

Kate this almost brought tears to my eyes. I have been so overwhelmed with the responsibility of motherhood lately and have been utterly exhausted. Thanks for these words. They are encouraging to me.
