I love how often the Exodus story is retold in the Bible; it is such a good reminder to be grateful to God and appreciate all that is does for us. It reminds me to not complain about my life, but relish in the innumerable blessings.

The psalmist does not hesitate to recount the wrongs and sins of himself and his fathers because his delight is in the steadfast love and deliverance of God. May we also look to our past lives and the old man in such a way that it can be devoted to praising God for His kindness and grace.

Hi ladies! I’m having trouble understanding verses 30-31. I grew up Catholic, but I’m getting more into Protestant, and this verse just confuses me when it comes to the term “righteousness” and how Phinehas’s act credited him. Does anyone have any insight for me?

Matthew Poole’s Commentary may be helpful for you regarding v. 31: “And although that action of his might seem harsh, and rash, and irregular, as being done by a private person and a priest, and as allowing the delinquents no space for repentance, it was accepted and rewarded by God as an act of justice and piety agreeable to his mind, and proceeding from a sincere zeal for God’s honour, and for the good of God’s people; and God gave him a public testimony of his approbation to be recorded to all generations, and the priesthood to be continued to him and his in all succeeding generations, of all which see Numbers 25.”
