I’m amazed at these Proverbs. I just can’t get over them! Lots of repetition here about listening, not being quick to give a response. Words on not quarreling. Seems to me that the way of wisdom would advise us to (in the face of potential conflict), shut our mouths, consider our words, and listen. Seek understanding. How often do I actually do that? Or is more important for me to spew my opinion or give my two cents about how I am personally affected. What a difference it would make to heed these words.

Proverbs 18:2 how truly applicable to today’s situation! To often we yell our opinions without searching to understand others opinions.

  10. Carol Bowman says:

    28Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise;
when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.

  11. Sarah Johnson says:

I love the reminder to listen before answering. It’s so true that answering without listening not only can cause problems in that moment, but it also shows a lack of Godly respect and care for the person you are talking to. Striving to be more like Jesus also means striving to listen before we answer.

we must learn to listen before we speak, and think twice before we speak. learn to compromise even if it means losing because it doesnt matter if we win or lose.

  16. Sharon Ide says:

Christ is both our shepherd and the sheep who was silent at the slaughter. What humility and love for His people, what great power and perfect obedience!

  17. Hayley Lewis says:

    I loved this!

  18. Baylee says:

It’s great example showing us a model of how easy it is to accept Christ as savior! and how to get baptized afterwards to represent Christ death and resurrection!

  19. Kylee says:

“So Philip ran to him and asked, Do you understand what you are reading? 31 And he said to him, How can I, unless someone guides me?”

Lord that we would be led to those around us who are seeking but don’t understand! That as our eyes have been opened to the truth of Who You are, we would help others see and understand!! Hearts are hungry, send us Father!

  20. Lauren Bourgeois says:

Just in awe, and at a loss for words! How good is our God! As I’ve been in a period of preparation the past couple years, He’s recently just been making so apparent how perfect His timing. He is in control, He has planned. We can trust Him, wholly! Hallelujah!

  21. Nicole says:

I love how the proverbs bring into perspective the importance of silence and at the same time the importance of reproof.

  22. HeatherMarie says:

I don’t think I’ve ever read proverbs so closely. The Holy Spirit brings to mind an example of how each verse is applicable in my life as I read.

    1. Kylee says:

So many examples that make these proverbs applicable – love them too!!

  26. Suzanne says:

All the pictures that are used in children’s Bible stories always showed the Ethiopian in his chariot by himself. I don’t know why I never realized that he had a driver, and that that man also heard what was being discussed about Jesus!

    1. MarmeeCotton says:

This reminds me that our actions are rarely for only one persons’ benefit. God can use us in ways we never see available!

  27. Katrina P says:

    Proverbs 18:1 Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire;
he breaks out against all sound judgment. – it’s crazy how God is able to transform us! I started a blog in 2012 to open up and let people into my life … Into my goals… And since that time I’ve realized how important it is to be LOUD with our story and with our goals! Our stories aren’t meant to be hidden but are meant to help others. I met my husband who has T1 Diabetes and kept it super quiet but now understands he has to share – he has to help someone else in the struggle. It’s so amazing to see scripture come to life!

    1. Katie says:

      I like this. Amen!

  28. Emily Kathryn says:

The same thing stood out to me! The Lord leads us where he wants us.

    1. Emily S says:

Yes! God is amazing how he leads us! Also in v.29-30, how crazy it must have been for Philip to be asked by the Holy Spirit to walk over to this stranger in a chariot, and not know what about or anything.

But he obeys anyways, and hears him reading Isaiah, and probably got excited, realizing that God was at work here, stepped up, and let God’s spirit through him share about Jesus!

I’ve actually gone out in malls and parks to talk to people about Jesus, and have had similar times when the spirit said “Go”; and it takes a lot of trust in God to walk up and say hello! How cool it must have been for Philip to walk up and see they’re already reading scripture! How God leads Philip and works out the entire situation for him is incredible!

I want to trust God more like Philip to follow through and know that He’s worked out everything ahead of time, and will provide me with the words to say.

  29. Lauren says:

Acts 8:39-40 – wow!!! My study bible says this indicates quite clearly that the Lord performed an amazing miracle here. And I never noticed this before!

  30. Alexis C. says:

Proverbs 17:6 Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.—-This verse stood out for me today. Probably because I will be seeing all my grandchildren this week-end. :-) So nothing deep just absolute joy and thanksgiving for the blessing of my children and grandchildren !
