14 Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. – 2 Kings 19:14
11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
It’s interesting that the 12yr old Manassah was so evil, after his Father followed God. Strange that his Father didn’t teach him the way to walk in line with God.. I wonder if their mothers had a large influence on them and that’s why the mum is mentioned.
Also interesting how it is the king who leads the country to destruction. Leaders are so influential
A great reminder at the end of the list of the armor of God that, no matter what we put on, we should still pray on all occasions as the ultimate armor and protection
Oh Lord may we be those to be found loving the Lord Jesus Christ with a love incorruptible. Surely we cannot do so by our own fickle hearts. But only by the power of the Spirit. Bind our hearts to thee.
Eph 6:12 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens…
I needed this reminder today! Struggling with a poor decision a friend made–it’s a heavenly battle, not mine.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Interesting that 2 Kings 21 does not record Manasseh humbling himself before the Lord like 2 Chronicles 33 does. Anyone know why? Maybe bc Chronicles was written post captivity?
2 Kings 19:25 “Have you not heard
that I determined it long ago?
I planned from days of old
what now I bring to pass,
that you should turn fortified cities
into heaps of ruins,”
Oh God’s sovereignty and forknowledge are so sweet to me!! The battle is ALREADY won! And I get a share in the spoils by virtue of God’s magnificent mercy and grace! (and definitely not of my own works…) Thanks be to God, who sees and hears all and is not surprised!
I love this verse, because it reminds us that each day is not just a walk with Christ, it’s actually a war. We must put on each of these types of armor to protect us against Satan’s constant attacks, and prepare us to stand firm in every moment.
I know this is long, but I was thinking about what each piece of armor means:
Your belt of TRUTH–to remember always the truth God and his promises to us, that we will always catch and thwart Satan’s whispering lies.
The breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS–or as I’ve heard it, “right-with-God-ness”, that guards and protects your heart.
On your feet, the gospel of PEACE–
not entering a moment without remembering that we are guaranteed to join Christ after this life, so that we don’t get worked up over earthly matters that do not have an eternal impact.
Shield of FAITH–that when Satan is shooting flaming arrows at you, and all hope seems gone, you hold onto that tiny bit of faith that says, “Trust God, and follow him.”
Helmet of SALVATION–another reminder that God has guaranteed us life, to guard against the thoughts Satan creeps into our minds.
Sword of the SPIRIT–our only offensive weapon, which is God’s word; that is why reading through the whole Bible has become so important for me.
All of this Paul asks us to put on with all prayer and supplecation, so take some time with me to pray today, as I ask the Lord to help us put our on full armor!
This is amazing the explanation for each of the armor! It really gets me thinking about which pieces of armor am I putting on everyday and what I need to work on to allow the full armor of God to dwell with me throughout everyday. Thank you so much for sharing this!
And a good reminder to honor our bodies comes from 2 Kings 29 “And this shall be the sign for you: this year eat what grows of itself, and in the second year what springs of the same. Then in the third year sow and reap and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.
It got me thinking about how we don’t honor the seasons and that from which we eat also.
So much strife our people went through to show others that our God is the only God: 2 Kings 19 So now, O Lord our God, save us, please, from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, O Lord, are God alone.”
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

I love Ephesians 6, and I love the way that the amor of God can help give a visual to help me serve him.

God works through all in mysterious ways . Thankful to take this step in my faith with my lord and savior .

That’s interesting, I forgot all about that. Good question though! Anyone have any thoughts?

May this be our prayer for Christians all over the world who are facing persecution at the hands of extremist groups.
Hmmm…. I think I may need to update my wardrobe and get busier doing My Father’s work.
