The way Paul prays for people is so beautiful… “May god give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so you may know him better.” That’s such a beautiful thing for us to pray for people in our lives too.
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 9making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
Truly God has lavished on us the riches of grace in the Lord Jesus, for we forget that deserve the same horrible suffering of the people of Israel who underwent famine and the same wretched end of Jezebel.
Two things I got from the Old Testament passsage today:
1. God ALWAYS provides (seen when he sent a shared hallucination to the Sirians of the army’s of the Hittites and Egyptians coming to destroy them)
2. When the Lord says he will provide do not doubt but hold tight to the promise made.
Why does Elisha kill himself after he was just told he would recover? Did he not trust his servant or was this an odd way of saying he died? Please help
It was the king of Syria. He sent his servant to Elisha to ask him what would happen. I think if the servant wouldn’t have interfered, the king would have recovered. But Elisha knew the evil in the servant’s heart. Which is why Elisha stared at him after his prophesy. The servant went back and delivered Elisha’s prophesy and then killed the king.
Sometimes in the Bible things get confusing because of all the pronouns that don’t always specify who they’re referring to “he/him/etc”
Elisha said he would recover.. and he did.. but Elisha also saw that he would die.. not from the sickness but from drowning himself..
10And Elisha said to him, “Go, say to him, ‘You shall certainly recover,’ but the Lord has shown me that he shall certainly die.” 15But the next day he took the bed cloth and dipped it in water and spread it over his face, till he died. And Hazael became king in his place.
“Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world.”
How absolutely profound that is to my heart. That he would think of me and choose me to be in him before he even laid the foundation of the world?
Vs. 11 sticks out to me this morning “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will”
Who better or where better to place our security than in the hands of the One who adopted us as daughters and predestined us to be His?
“In him we have REDEMPTION through his blood, the FORGIVENESS of our trespasses, according to the RICHES OF HIS GRACE, which HE LAVISHED UPON US”. He offers redemption, forgiveness, abundant grace … in exchange for what? What can I do to deserve/earn this? I cannot obey His rules. I cannot do enough. I keep coming up short. I can’t hold up my end of the contract! It’s hopeless :(
13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
I love this reminder of the importance of the Holy Spirit! The Spirit not only lives in us in the present, but it is a promise of the good things to come.
Ephesians 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.
The “eyes of your heart” what an interesting phrase. Seeing with our heart would definitely bring a different perspective to things we normally see with our minds. Would we stop and think before we logically responded? Would we consider with our hearts the impact of our logical decisions made for someone else? I see so many benefits to seeing with my heart before acting with my logic. Thank you Lord for this lesson.
4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love – Esphesians – hearing Paul’s words this morning was much comfort after the war in Kings (which we must read to learn from) I love the use of the word “blameless” to show how God never judges even if we feel we are in error. As long as we live in his ways. Have a blessed day everyone!
Such an intense part of the Old Testament, then such a hopeful, encouraging passage in the New Testament. So interesting!

So much hope right here in these passages.

Abundantly free in Christ!
Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance.
When we meet with other christians, Holy Spirit comes and guarantees of our inheritance.
When read the word, Holy Spirit comes and guarantees of our inheritance.
When we see healing, Holy Spirit comes and guarantees of our inheritance.
When we look at creation, Holy Spirit comes and guarantees of our inheritance.
When we allow God to move in our souls, Holy Spirit comes and guarantees of our inheritance.

truly amazing
Ephesians 1 spoke to me as it reminded me the blessings that come along with knowing God also the way he sees us in his eyes.

That’s the beauty of His love and grace though; we can do nothing to earn it, yet He still offers it to us. All we can to is except His gift.
❤
Amen Allison! I loved that verse too!

I pray I no longer take the Spirit for granted.
I love that he speaks on our level in practical terms like a deposit.

I love the message version…”not just free but abundantly FREE!!!”
