12In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.

  7. Heather Roberson says:

The genealogy had me thinking. When Samuel anointed Saul to be king, did he sons still continue to be priests? If not then who did? I know that the Israelites didn’t want Samuel’s sons to rule or be a judge, but what was their role after Saul became king?

    1. Melissa Smith says:

Samuels sons did serve as priests, although they were very bad priests and really just “served” themselves.

  8. Laura Andersen says:

I wonder if part of Jesus’ prayer that night was spent in agony as the Father explains that Judas will be his betrayer, and yet, he needs to be chosen as a disciple. That night, Jesus chose men he knew would fail, sin, walk away, and betray him. Yet he chose them anyways. Thankful that God chooses us while we are still sinners.

  14. Sharon Ide says:

We can be tempted to downplay the “joy” we are commanded to have in suffering for Christ’s name’s sake. But the passage tells us to rejoice and leap for joy. Let us consider the love we must have for the name of Jesus and for His glory in order to respond in this way.

  15. Kelsey says:

Why does God choose to write about all the sons of all these men? I feel like it’s just a waste of paper.

  16. Maya says:

Jesus said in luke 6:10 ” stretched out you’re hand and his hand was completely restored and healed.” I find it amazing how jesus can do so much through on person and it’s what god is calling him to do

Wow! I am floored! Today is the first day in a LONG time that I’ve read the “Bible in a year”. To be honest I’ve been focused and so much and His word just hasn’t been one of them :( but Luke 6:22-24 are EXACTLY what I’ve been struggling with!

God is so faithful if you just listen!

22″Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. 24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.

1 Chronicles 1:24 – Almost breezed past this! Sheerah his daughter built three town! One called ‘listen to Sheerah’. A woman builder/architect/planner/director in the OT? Reminds me of the Proverbs 31 woman who also sounded like a business woman. I love finding these gems in the Bible that show us God didn’t let a patriarchal society stop women from doing great things!

    1. Melinda says:

I didn’t catch that when I was reading it. So glad you commented on this and I went back and re-read that verse! A blessing indeed :)

    2. Katie says:

Thank you for pointing that out!

  19. Antimony says:

Luke 6:9 “And Jesus said to them, ‘I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?'” He was looking at the principle of the matter. So often we get so caught up in the details that we miss the big picture

praying for THE peace of Jesus Christ to come over your brother. thank you for sharing, Shanelle.

  27. Shanelle says:

Ladies, can I ask for a special heaping of prayer for my family today? My brother is struggling with some serious anxiety issues that are both completely foreign and very terrifying to our family. It is slowly wearing away at him in ways that scare me so much. I don’t want to live in a state of fear for him, and I trust that Jesus can heal him, but right now there is so much unknown that I’m not sure how to help him or how to pray. I just want him to experience the peace of our Lord so he can recapture his heart and life from this demon. Thank you!
