Today’s reading was so informative on what wisdom can do.A city was saved because of one woman who was full of wisdom. If this happened a thousands years ago before the birth and death of Jesus Christ. What more now when we have the gift of the Holy Spirit?

    1. Fran Bissell says:

      I agree…very inspiring!

  2. Kylee says:

Does anyone else here a drum roll kick off when John begins his ministry? Knowing the Messiah comes after him, it always feels to me like his work is the beginning of the events that would forever change history — and that makes it so exciting!

I am so appreciative today that we have read so much of the Old Testament so far. I feel like I was able to have a whole new appreciation for Jesus’s genealogy because of this. I can only imagine all of the other things I have missed out on ! I look forward to continuing to read with you all and learn more and more about our savior

  4. Debbie says:

“3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”
I love how it says baptism of repentance not baptism by water – it was and is a heart thing that leads to forgiveness of sins. This must have been so fresh because all they new before was animal sacrifice for covering of sin.

    1. Becky says:

Amen!!! We work with the Roma (gypsy) people in Romania. It is such a difficult thing for them to understand that our relationship with Christ begins in the heart and not at the time of being dunked in the water. I had never noticed that phrase. Thanks for pointing it out!

Jesus genealogy is pretty crazy when you read it. I’ve read it before but I guess today when I read it I actually noticed just how orchestrated it all was by God. Seems so obvious and it is but I guess I never let it sink in. Also to be honest for some reason I read it and doubt because it’s so perfect. But I know it’s true and that doubt is not from God. His word is true and perfect and living.

    1. Gabrielle says:

Yeah I love how i actually know many of the names now! Son of David, son of boaz, son of Noah, son of Adam, son of GOD!

      1. Angelyn says:

Yes, Gabrielle! It was so neat to get to David and think, “Oh yes, this is where I am! I know these people!”

  6. Amy says:

4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
    make his paths straight.
5 Every valley shall be filled,
and every mountain and hill shall be made low,
and the crooked shall become straight,
and the rough places shall become level ways,
6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’”

Reading this I just can’t stop thinking “God is a RESTORER”. There’s a sense in these verses that He’s making things LEVEL for His people. And not in a socialist sort of way but in a justice way–in a way that shows no matter your status here on earth, we are all level before God. The picture of God making rough ways smooth and crooked ways straight seems to me less of a promise that life will be easy with God and more of a promise that in the end all things will be restored in Him. Even now I see He works to restore crooked and rough things to their true state in Him and I love that about God.

    1. Sandy says:

Yes, the ground is level at the foot of the cross! We all come to Him the same way- broken, sinful. And he forgives us equally and makes us His children, hallelujah!

Ladies today’s reading was difficult for me. I’m having trouble following the two Old Testament chapters. Can anyone shine some light on this passage for me?

    1. Pam Blum says:

So my reading and understanding of the 2 Samuel passages today is that they are accounting more trials that David is having to deal with. After his sin with Bathsheba, God tells him through Nathan that there will be unrest in David’s family and I think this is more of that unrest.

    2. Alyssa says:

I’m with you- this has been the hardest for me to follow. I’ve been googling summaries daily to help.

  8. Clare says:

The thing that stood out to me in today’s reading is John’s call to be generous and to share. Recently, I have been living in a place of lack financially, but I have realised that this is more of a mindset thing. I have a wardrobe of clothing – I can share. I have food on the table – I can share. I am sure this will bless us as much as those we are sharing with.

    1. Lisa says:

      Awesome perspective Clare.

    2. Cleris says:

      Amen Clare!
