  11. Liz Kuster says:

Psalm 53:5 “But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
where there was nothing to dread…”

There is never anything to dread or worry about, because God protects us. He loves us. We need to trust in this promise ❤️

    1. Rebecca Sandusky says:

I’ve checked a few translations & can’t find your version. Mine reads “then they will be filled with dread- dread like no other” it’s talking about God destroying evildoers and those who besiege Israel. Just wanted to check and see if maybe you were referring to a different passage?

      1. Sonora Berry says:

Mine is word for word what Liz quoted! I use NIV.

      2. Ally Sharrock says:

I also use NIV and had the same translation. I looked into these verses and here is a description I found which quotes other interpretations:

It seems that it was during a time of attack or siege from an enemy (him who encamps against you). David trusted that God would put the enemy in great fear, even though their strategic position gave them no real reason to fear.

David prayed for something that God had promised an obedient Israel. God promised to send such fear (Leviticus 26:36).

David prayed for something that God had done on other occasions. There were many times when God sent fear into the hearts of Israel’s enemies. Examples include Joshua against the Canaanites (Joshua 10:10), Gideon against the Midianites (Judges 7), Jonathan and his armor-bearer against the Philistines (1 Samuel 14), and Hezekiah against the Assyrians (2 Kings 18-19).

Therefore Israel’s enemies had no reason to fear them, unless they had God in their side, in which their enemies feared the Lord.

  12. Sarah Johnson says:

Thankful that I can have faith and confidence in God when I’m under attack or feeling overwhelmed!!

  17. Briea Williams says:

God has freed me from all my troubles. I loved that today’s reading was in Psalms, but I also want to be sure that I’m applying these words to my everyday life and making sure that I go about my day meditating on the word of God.

  18. Sharon Ide says:

Oh the foolishness of “seeking refuge in their own destruction.” May we see the depravity of man and praise God for the great salvation He has wrought and brought us to from the hopeless condition we were in.

  19. Antonia says:

Ive seen it translated as “exalt”.

  20. Angie Du Plessis says:

Selah means stop, ponder on what you have heard.

  21. Leigh Ann says:

What does Selah mean? I googled the translation as weight or measure. Any thoughts?

    1. Ane S says:

Hi Leigh Ann, Selah means: be still and know :)

  22. Antimony says:

P53:1 “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’, they are corrupt, & have committed abominable injustice; there is no one who does good”. Only a fool would claim that there is no God. Evidence is everywhere. We can think He doesn’t care about us. Or that He hates us. Etc. But you can’t really make a case for Him not existing

  23. I love psalm 52:9. I looked up a commentary and noticed that “hope in your name” can also be read as “wait expectantly in your name.” Makes me think about what I am waiting for and also HOW I am waiting. Am I enduring with patience, am I trusting God to come through, am I resting in the Lord? Or am I grumbling, questioning, and doubting his provision? My prayer for this morning for us all is that we do more than just complain or hope for the best. I pray that we wait with EXPECTANCY that God will come through and get us to where we need to be!

    1. mybelle101 says:

I love this, Jessie… such a good reflection. I also love the tense in verse 9: “You HAVE DONE it”. It’s finished, the battle is already won. He is faithful! It reminds me of Joshua 21:45 from a few days ago. God keeps His promises, and we can trust in that!

    2. Lauren Bourgeois says:

      Amen!! So good

  24. Yana says:

Ps 52:8 But I am like an olive tree
    flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God’s unfailing love
    for ever and ever.

    Pa 54:4 Surely God is my help;
the Lord is the one who sustains me.

I can’t imagine what a day would be like without my Heavenly Father. Who would hold me up when I am invisibly falling? Who would cheer me on at each personal baby step I take that only He knows. Who would give me peace at the end of the day and restful sleep? I am truly blessed.

    1. Christina D. says:

Beatify I thoughts and words. We are truly blessed.
