3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. – Deuteronomy 8:3
24Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.” 23And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”
Prayer and Fasting as the KJV puts it. I recently had a conversation with someone who shared her insight in that passage. In the previous chapter the pharisees chided JESUS for not making his followers fast. Then in this verse he says fasting is necessary to cast out these spirits. The reason they couldn’t work with that overflow of power was because Jesus was still with them and his time had not yet come and the spirit had not descended until Acts 2. We have been so very blessed to have that same power as the daughters of the most high, so even in this uncertain time we can redirect ourselves with prayer and fasting. Casting out any fear or anxiety with this virus.
Do not fear for God is Love. In fact, he chose you out of his own love. There’s nothing so good or bad that we could do to earn his love. Rest in that promise today.
“This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.” Sometimes I forget the power prayer holds, and yet here Jesus is presenting it as one of the most powerful weapons we have to drive out the enemy. Lord help me to remember the power of prayer and pray accordingly!
12“And because you listen to these rules and keep and do them, the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that he swore to your fathers. -ellie
May we also remember the steadfast love and mercy of the Father, who has saved us not because we are righteous, but despite our stubborn and rebellious hearts. Wonderful God who even prepares victory in a particular manner to prevent wild animals from overtaking the promised land.
Remember God’s goodness, remember victory comes from Him, not because of our own righteousness but because of his grace! Remember what He has done for us. Remember to obey. Remember to love Him.
I have observed that over the course of making a relationship with real estate proprietors, you’ll be able to get them to understand that, in every real estate financial transaction, a payment is paid. In the end, FSBO sellers will not “save” the commission rate. Rather, they fight to earn the commission by simply doing a good agent’s work. In accomplishing this, they devote their money and also time to execute, as best they might, the responsibilities of an broker. Those tasks include revealing the home by way of marketing, introducing the home to prospective buyers, building a sense of buyer emergency in order to make prompt an offer, organizing home inspections, dealing with qualification check ups with the loan company, supervising repairs, and facilitating the closing.
Verse 8:16 ‘…that He might humble you and test you, to do good for you in the end.’
This verse stood out to me as a reminder to trust God and his plan – the trials we face aren’t without purpose and can ultimately transform us if we keep our focus on God and trust Him wholeheartedly. Our mistakes and sins can help us grow and can be recycled into something good because of our Gods everlasting love & grace
This was a great reminder for me to put the Lord first. To trust in his timing and path for me completely. I’ve been going through a tough time lately and there’s so much that is unknown about the future. I was confused, scared, and so hurt. Why would God not hear my prayers? I lost site of all the good that God has brought me. I lost my faith. These trials in life help us redirect focus and figure out what’s most important. These passages are just another reminder that the Lord is with us and cares for us. It’s easy to trust in the Lord and be thankful when life is great. I need to maintain that same trust when life gets hard.
I know what you mean, but I feel like if you ‘zoom out’ you see his infinite patience. Even just reading the section headings it’s miracle after miracle after miracle. In Mark 6 he’s tired and needs to rest but when he sees the crowd he feels compassion! Amazing.
God’s attention to detail in the care of us is amazing. He said he would send hornets to destroy the enemy that was hiding.
He also said He would help them defeat their enemy quickly, but not so quickly that they would be overcome by “the beasts of the field”. It makes me stop and wonder, what beast is He protecting me from by not giving me what I want right now?
15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
Reminds me of one of my favorite songs (Bethel Music) : “May we never lose our wonder…may we never lose our wonder…wide-eyed and mystified, may we be just like a child staring at the beauty of our King…may we never lose our wonder…”
Could you all pray for me? I’ve been praying almost everyday for the same things and nothing is happening. Sometimes I feel like God is telling me to let it go but as soon as I began to do that something inside me tells me to hold on so I do. It’s a continuing cycle that’s becoming frustrating.
Paisley I’m praying for you right now. I’m praying that you will feel peaceful about this situation and that the Lord would show you clarity. I admire your commitment to praying through this circumstance.
17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
This gripped me. I often feel so proud of myself, my accomplishments, my hard work and dedication. I have nothing…I AM nothing without God.
22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But IF you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “ ‘IF you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who BELIEVES.”
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
I love that even though he throws and IF at Jesus that Jesus doesn’t just push him aside for not having faith, and I love that he then asks for Jesus to help him overcome his unbelief. How often do we struggle with being faithful or not believing that God really can do something, so we do it ourselves. Instead we should be praying for help to overcome the unbelief and give it all to him anyway!
29 “But they are your people, your inheritance that you brought out by your great power and your outstretched arm.” These chapters set their journey and success into focus again for me. It was not their own goodness and power that has led them this far. Gods mercy and grace have prevailed and In the midst of that he disciplined them. I am only where I am because of his mercy, discipline, grace and great love for me! THANK YOU JESUS .
What stood out to me was that the Lord was giving them the promise land NOT out of their own righteousness, because it goes on to say in verse 24 “you have been rebellious against the Lord ever since I have known you” , but because of the wickedness of the nations He was about to drive out. This brought me full circle to Romans 5:8 ” while we were still sinners Christ died for us”. Im loving the “full circle” effect I’m getting reading through Deuteronomy.
I really do love Deuteronomy because it’s all about remembrance. I’m challenged today not to forget what the Lord has done for me and not to think that my own righteousness has gotten me there! The Lord is faithful, keeping His covenant and I am thankful for the reminder this morning.
Yes, thank you for this. I’m at a crossroads in my life — finishing grad school and seeking a full-time job. I’m anxious, often overcome with stress to the point of physical discomfort, but I am reminded by these passages to look back at how the Lord has provided for me up to this point. Why would He cease to provide for me in the future? I have confidence that He will be faithful to provide, and I must keep learning to trust in His timing.
Lord I believe, help my unbelief! ❤️
Sometimes prayer us the only thing that helps

God fights our battles and goes before us!!!!! Everything is possible for those who believe this power and mercy

The way I am reading it, Jesus sounds so exasperated in a all of mark. Can anyone interpret that For me?

Every good thing in our lives is from God.
Mark 9:24b “I do believe; help my unbelief.” This needs to be me. I need to believe. I have to! Can I? Oh ….
Paisley, may the Lord answer your prayer….His timing is always perfect, sometimes it does not seem so to us however…
Could you all pray for me? I’ve been praying almost everyday for the same things and nothing is happening. Sometimes I feel like God is telling me to let it go but as soon as I began to do that something inside me tells me to hold on so I do. It’s a continuing cycle that’s becoming frustrating.

I am going through the SAME thing… I’ll be praying for you.

That same verse stood out to me Anna. We have nothing to boast about, it is all the Lord.
Yes, this is such a New Testament concept! Thanks for making that connection.
I really do love Deuteronomy because it’s all about remembrance. I’m challenged today not to forget what the Lord has done for me and not to think that my own righteousness has gotten me there! The Lord is faithful, keeping His covenant and I am thankful for the reminder this morning.
I was thinking on this verse too! Such a Different perspective for me!
Amen sister
such a beautiful truth! if it were based on my righteousness, what pathetic shape I’d be in lol praise the Lord I’m credited as Christ!
