A Royal Priesthood

1 Peter 2:4-9, Hebrews 7:22-28, Hebrews 8:1-2, Hebrews 10:19-22, Hebrews 13:15, 2 Corinthians 2:14-15, Romans 12:1, Revelation 1:4-6, Revelation 5:10

Since 2012, She Reads Truth has maintained a singular mission: to be women in the Word of God every day. Ten years later, our community includes “Shes” from across the globe, but our mission hasn’t changed.

Reading Scripture together is the centerpiece of what we do at She Reads Truth. As we spend time as a community reading This Is The Church, we encourage you to start by reading the daily Scripture on your  own. Then join us here to engage and encourage one another as we respond to what we’ve read. Each day for this series, we’ll include a brief summary of the reading along with a prompt for conversation.

The Church is a new priesthood, different from the priesthood of the Old Testament. Jesus Christ is our High Priest who leads us in offering our lives in worship as a living sacrifice to God.

Today, along with responding to the reading, share with the community in the comments what part of the world you are reading from.

Glacier View, Alaska. I hadn’t thought of all the verses talking about sacrifice as references to the priesthood, but it makes so much sense! Romans 12:1 is one of my favorites. There is more depth to it when you realize Jesus is the High Priest and presented Himself as a living sacrifice as an example to us… and He was the ultimate sacrifice to make a way for us to even be able to draw near and know our Creator!

Denise, the reading about “a Royal Priesthood” is to show the requirement for blood being shed as an atonement for sin is no longer required, since Jesus is our high priest and completely fulfilled that need in his bloodshed on the cross for all mankind; the people of the past, present, and future. In the Old Testament, God made the requirement of needing a high priest to shed blood of a perfect spotless animal to cleanse and atone for sin. This reading today is to show in multiple places in God’s Word that it is no longer required, since Jesus is our high priest. However, we, as believers, are to present ourselves to the Lord as willing sacrifices,to do whatever he has called us to do, and that’s the very least we can do- given all he has done for us! Does this help your understanding?

I am so far behind on this study, but I’m really enjoying it. I love thinking about Jesus as my high priest, and that he doesn’t want sacrifices of silver and gold, but only a clean heart.

Hebrews 13:15 stood out to me today (and continuing to verse 16) “15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Jesus was the final sacrifice requiring the spilling of blood, and with Him now as High Priest and Christ followers as His royal priesthood, our sacrifices that please God are praise, confessing the name of Jesus, and doing good and sharing the good news with others. May I be faithful to pour out my life as a living sacrifice in that way.

I feel a little lost here with no commentary from the SRT staff. Jesus is the High Priest and we as his followers are priests. Is this Day #15 to acknowledge this, and we take no other “gods”?

Hebrews 10: 22. Living my way alone is only a front & a fake. Lacking in truth & a certain travesty. Leaning into Christ; claiming His centrality; believing the debt paid; approaching the throne of grace…Then, then, I bid, turn my “groans to glory”. Help me. Help me. Help me. Please. Please. Please. Hi She’s! I am so grateful for She Reads Truth and all that make it possible to dive into the word daily! It has been such a blessing adding growth, understanding, and reverence to our Almighty God and the Savior, Lord Jesus Christ that He sent to save us, and the Holy Spirit to guide us daily in our lives and to shine the light and give Him glory! Wow, Halejuhah run-on sentence! But I could talk all day about how He has saved my life, answered so many prayers, and continues to bless me! I love that we are online friends that hide all of our differences and unite us in our oneness!
I am sending prayers to those in need, and for the one who asks for prayers for her 19-year-old son. I lift him up to you Father, like so many of us that worry for our children and grandchildren that we cherish but have fallen away, we KNOW that YOUR WORD says that they are in YOUR HANDS, and like the prodigal son that was lost, he will return to you, Lord! We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
I am reading from beautiful sunny and hot Fort Myers Florida! Living my dream that God answered a few years ago! He is guiding us and leading us on our journey, but it is about HIM and not us. I was grateful in the tundra of Chicago in January for 20 years, not happy but grateful!! lol May we shine your light Heavenly Father to those around us no matter where we read from today! We have a commission! Let’s go to work!

This makes me want to read through the Old Testament and look at the sacrifice rules. I think they’re might be a new found sweetness in the details with this new perspective. I’m sharing from Olathe, KS, USA, a suburb of Kansas City.
While reading the scripture in my Thrive Devotional Bible, I came upon this devotion in regards to 1 Peter 2:9, it’s titled “Love Letter from God.” “Beloved Daughter, I have set you apart, and you belong to Me. I know you desire to be approved of and accepted by others, but you are My daughter , and I did not design you to fit into this world I put a light in you to shine out. I chose you from the beginning of time, but you also have a choice. You can live like My daughter for My approval, or you can live for other and be controlled by what they think of you. I want first place in your heart. When I come first, you will live your life for Me. Remember, you do not have to try to make yourself presentable to come to Me. Just come, and I will work in you so that you will become a beautiful reflection of Me. LOVE, YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER.”
I felt many of us could use this reminder of God’s love.

As we “march” through the streets we are spreading everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him…oh how I long for this to be true in my own life daily – spreading the fragrance of Christ everywhere I go! Help me Father to be faithful in living the gospel, and sharing the good news with those who do not know it. To You be the glory!

Mind-boggling that God says we are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession. How far we as His people fall and yet He calls us to live in this world by His grace as Jesus lived ( I Peter 2:18ff), as His chosen people before the world. Since Jesus is our great High Priest, and we have confidence to enter the holy place (the place where God’s presence dwelt in the temple that only the high priest could go in the Old Testament to atone for the people’s sins), let us draw near to God with a sincere heart, in full assurance of faith, and hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, and consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds! What great encouragement from the Word! We are saved and called to draw near to God and to be set apart for His glory and purposes! Let us remember the great price with which we have been bought and the new, holy life that He has saved us to live with Him and in Him!

Stef M., I have been a born again Christian for the last 12 years and still battle with the lies and fears that satan had me believing for so long…unworthy, unloved, not enough of this or that. I even back slid for a little while. However, the one thing that I cling to is knowing that God loves us so much that he wants us broken so we may learn to love him as much as he loves us and take our testimonies to help others that are just as broken as we are/were so they can see how we are changing our lives to be true daughters of God and bring more people to his kingdom. The challenge in my heart is having rejected my Christian faith for so long, feeling unworthy at times to proclaim it now. Jesus is talking to me in y prayers showing me just how worthy I am of MY own testimony.. that He never called me to be perfect – but to Love and Surrender and place my Hope in Him. This relieves me and amazes my senses. My prayer is that I can continue to drop the critic of my mind to live more boldly for Christ. ❣️

And the celebration that takes place every time a servant of the Lord enters heaven. There is a continual spiritual/heavenly celebration happening and when we are following Christ and sharing His Good News, we are part of his procession. This is so humbling and so encouraging to me.
