A Prayer for the Second Sunday of Advent

Open Your Bible

2 Peter 1:19

We also have the prophetic word strongly confirmed, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. —2 Peter 1:19

Precious Jesus, You are the Source, the Fountain, the Author, the Finisher of all.

Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are Your judgments, and Your ways past finding out.

What was the day, the ever-blessed, ever-to-be-remembered day, when You—who commanded the light to shine out of darkness—shone in upon my heart?

And when did Jesus, the day-dawn and the day-star, arise to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, in the face of Jesus Christ?

Glorious light and life of my soul! Continue Your sweet influence, morning by morning, at dawn, and during the evening star of Your grace. Continue until, after many wintry days of my blindness, ignorance, and senseless state, You renew me in the precious discoveries of Your love.

By this I am carried through all the twilight of this poor and dying state of things below. For then I will awake to the full enjoyment of Your glory. I will see You in one full, open day; and I will be made like You in Your kingdom of light, and life, and happiness, forever and ever. Amen.

Reading above 2 Peter 2:19 in 2 Peter 2:5&6- “…Faith with virtue, virtue with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with steadfastness, steadfastness with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

This really stood out to me today- thank you for providing the option to Read the Bible within the devos and not just the verse(s) used in the Bible!

This study is touching my heart. Since my mom died of Covid, I have had a difficult time finding any light in my life. It’s really nice to have a study that looks at the Light of the World, and is bringing me closer to the hope that was born at Christmas. A big Thank you to Kelly & Stacy Edwards for responding to my request yesterday. I’ve looked into both. My husband also humbled me by reminding me that not everyone has spent time in the Bible, so that lack of overall familiarity would make YouVersion difficult. It was for him, at one time.
Today’s devotion & prayer were so beautiful. So needed. Thank you Churchmouse for the reminder to look only to Jesus for justice and promises to be fulfilled.
Praying for all the requests. Oh, & the name of the song Rhonda J shared with us is Light of the World by Lauren Daigle. Hugs & love y’all.

I’ve been catching up on my readings this morning and this is exactly what I needed. I am currently in the process of changing careers and am on my last weeks of my current job. My anxiety is up and although I know I am making the right decision, the devil is whispering all sorts of lies in my ear. That I am not good enough or strong enough. That I never know what I am doing. But I must remember that Jesus, my lord and savior, is the light of the world. He casts out the darkness where the devil lives. I cling to Him as I go on to my next adventure.

    He has come, Emmanuel

Glory to the Light of the World

For all who wait, for all who hunger

  68. Churchmouse says:

Today’s Scripture reminds me to “pay attention” to the prophetic word. The Prophets foretold both the first and second coming of the Savior of the world. In this dark night of America’s soul, I need this reminder. My hope does not rest in the government. My hope tests in the Truth of God’s Word. He’s coming again to set all things right. He will judge with perfect justice and fairness. He will fulfill every promise. None will be overlooked or forgotten. Pay attention. Be prepared. Do not despair. Share the good news. The King is coming!
