Scripture Reading: Luke 10:1-42, John 3:35-36, 1 John 5:20
Have you ever known someone you did not quite understand? For the longest time, I didn’t “get” my friend Andy’s dad, which was a bit of a problem because Andy’s dad was also my boss and pastor. I couldn’t figure out what made him tick or why he made some of the decisions he made. Andy’s dad was an anomaly to me—that is, until I got to know Andy better. Knowing Andy unlocked my understanding of his father, Chris, and helped me relate to and enjoy him better. Often, we just need someone on our own level to help us understand.
Today’s reading is a wild experience. Jesus paired off and sent out seventy-two of His followers on short-term mission trips throughout Israel. They went, they preached, they healed, they shook dust off their feet. And they were so successful that even demons submitted to them (Luke 10:17). But Jesus didn’t want the disciples to focus on what they had done. He was more concerned with them understanding what they had seen: namely, the Son of God and His coming kingdom.
The three persons of the Trinity are brought into view as Jesus the Son “rejoiced in the Holy Spirit” and praised the Father because God was being made known (v.21). Jesus’s praise to the Father here in the middle of Luke 10 is the lens that gives sight to the whole chapter. God’s kingdom is near. The Father’s character, heart, and mission are evident in the Son. We should be asking ourselves, do we understand what we see?
Often we try to fashion God into our image or our own preferred styles. We want God to be as gracious as possible to us but harsh and judgmental to our enemies. We want God’s mercy to fall on the people who deserve it but His vengeance to fall on those we would rather see in pain. Not only that, but we tend to only see the realities of God that we choose to see, rather than what Jesus Christ has shown us.
But Jesus isn’t interested in our own versions of God and His kingdom. He’s revealing to us the Father. In this chapter alone, we see He is the God who is Lord of the heavens and earth (v.21), He is the God who shows mercy and commands compassion (vv.30–37), and He is the God who values our sitting at His feet over missing what is more important (v.42). Jesus perfectly displays the Father by His power, His love, and His grace.
The more we spend our time beholding the Son, the more clearly we will see and understand the Father. Jesus said eternal life is found in this: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind” (v.27). Christ shows us who God is so that we can know Him and love Him with all that we are.

I meant to share this when I read this morning, but haven’t felt great today so just now sharing. I think it’s important to learn about who Jesus’ audience is and the history behind his statements to them so I looked into the 2 cities mentioned below. I also looked at Tyre and Sidon as I needed a reminder there.
From gotquestions dot org:
“The city of Capernaum represents many who have been exposed to the gospel, may enjoy going to church, and consider themselves Christians by association. The familiarity with Jesus and His Word gives them a false sense of assurance that they are right with God when in reality Jesus will one day say to them, ‘Away from me, you evildoers! I never knew you’ (Matthew 7:21–23). The people of Capernaum heard and saw what Jesus did and said, yet they refused to believe (John 1:12; 12:42). We can speculate as to why: would believing would cost them too much? Would it disrupt their comfortable religious life? Would it challenge them to repent of sin and pride, love the unlovely, and give up all to follow (Luke 9:57–62; 4:25–33; John 6:59–66)? Capernaum had a greater opportunity than most cities to hear and believe in Christ, and the residents would be held to a higher standard of judgment (Luke 10:12; Matthew 11:24). Likewise, we will be judged according to the light we’ve been given (Matthew 5:29; 18:6; Luke 12:42–48). If God did not spare Capernaum due to their lack of faith, He will not spare those today who have heard the message, seen the evidence, and rejected His Son (2 Peter 2:4–10; Hebrews 6:4–6). …
.
Bethsaida has come to represent those who have heard the gospel, understood God’s plan of salvation, and rejected it. Jesus implied that their eternal punishment would be harsher than that of those who did not have such a privilege (Matthew 11:22).”

Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤
.
Our son and family had to say goodbye to a beloved pet today (15+ years old and 1st major loss for the kids). Please remember them in your prayers. Thank you! ❤
Thanks for sharing the information on these cities. It helps in not only understanding the time in which Jesus lived, but in understanding ourselves, too.
Praying for your son’s family. especially the kids. It’s so hard to lose a pet. ❤️
I agree and liked how the article made that connection. ☺
Thanks so much, Teresa! ❤❤❤
I pray that I would focus on loving God and those around me and not let the cares of this world distract me. Life is so distracting, especially our cell phones. I pray that I would be more like Mary, sitting at Jesus’ feet in workshop.
Happy Monday shes.

This really stood out to me today, “Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves” (Luke 10:3). Lambs are defenseless and wolves are predators. I think of Charlie Kirk in this context and it is a painful realization, wolves are not always what they seem. Jesus says in this verse that His followers will go out vulnerable. Are we okay with that? It takes practice being vulnerable for humans that naturally default to self preservation and comfort. Please be careful out there. When we come in the Name of the Lord, we will receive the treatment the Lord has received. The student is in similar state as the Teacher. There is an enemy we cannot see that is raging in the spirit, influencing unbelievers’ mind and actions. ADRIENNE- your story share today illustrated this. Please be careful and arm yourself with the armor of God, and the direction of God. Acts 16:6 says Paul and his companions traveled through Phrygia and Galatia, “having been forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia”. Acts 16:7 adds says when they came to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, “but the Spirit suffered them not”. May we be spirit-led and constantly lean on His guidance.
.
And may we know this truth 100% in our heart and mind that we have power, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you…” (Luke 10:19). But do we believe that spirits are subject unto us? It takes practice and repetition sometimes to persuade and confirm to us this is reality. May God help us.

Prayer request: I have one myself. This Thursday there will be an annual real estate conference in my city. It is a glorious event with high priced tickets. A Toronto colleague couldn’t attend last minute and gracefully passed their ticket to me. Since the registration is under his name, I’ll be checking in as Jason and my badge (which must be worn) will say that. The deadline to change names passed a month ago with a fee. It makes me a bit uncomfortable coming in. Please pray they won’t give me any trouble when I register in my colleague’s place who can’t travel last minute, and the ticket won’t go to waste (it costs $700). It is such a great full day event with many panel discussions of industry leaders, with lunch catering and networking, an absolute wonderful learning experience. Thank you so much for your prayers.
.
Be blessed dear sisters.
Oh yes, indeed, I forgot that this verse caught my eye as well! We are sheep sent out to the wolves! I just try to remember that they do not have the Holy Spirit, so of course their views and actions are worldly, and they want to strike and attack. You can see that in protesters, they get SO angry and always yelling. The evangelists always have a spirit of peace, truth, and calm.
Praise God there are more like Charlie Kirk, going out there trying to make a difference. I follow so many on IG to support them. One guy goes everyday in front of an abortion clinic in Chicago. He gets so much hate, but he is doing Kingdom work, trying to save little babies from abortion. Others go to Pride Parades. We have to have passion AND Compassion but preach the word of God.
We have to wake up though as Christians that the devil and the spiritual battle is crazily taking over it seems, it is up to us to participate in this battle! We know we win…but at what cost of not trying to win souls until then? It’s not gonna be easy, it will cost us!
Most people are lulled to sleep, it is a deep sleep for some. I remember in the Pilgrim’s progress book, the pilgrims pass through an enchanted land which suddenly causes them to be so drowsy and sleepy. This is real. It is difficult to witness, and also to endure. “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people”.
.
And i love this, “in fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived”. Persecution is the mark of a godly life, not professing. Goose bumps.
Lynne from Alabama – I’m so sorry to hear about your fall and injuries. I’m praying for relief from pain so that you can rest and heal. Also asking the Lord to provide helpers who can be there when you need them and can bring food, housecleaning, company and personal care.
I wish I could come visit! ❤️

I’m struggling this morning. I received a message from my friend, Deb. She is dying. The cancer has spread. She has fluid around her lungs. I’m heartbroken. Please pray for her and her husband, Larry.
~
This lesson and devotional could not have come at a better time. It hits home with my husbands daughter and the fiancee to his son. I struggle with them beyond words. Part is that they are not believers and do not have the best lifestyles.
~
But with God’s help I hope to be an example to them. This devotional will be saved in my file!
Saying a prayer for you ❤️
Praying for you, Deb, and Larry. I’m so sorry to hear this.
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, Jeremy, for this devotion today It helped me focus on the important- God the Father, Jesus the Son, rejoicing in the Holy Spirit. I love seeing the trinity in scripture and being reminded of how we experience God through all three persons, but still one God. Then, reading about the attributes of God the Father, He is Lord of heaven and earth, He is merciful, He is the God who values us sitting at His feet. I find it’s important for me to know God more fully so I love and obey Him more. Today I will remind myself that God’s Kingdom is near and I do not need to anxious and worried over many things. Praying for the requests here today.
As I was reading.. . The last two passages really convicted me that I did the right thing. I do need prayers and advice on how/if to respond further. Yesterday I responded to a reply (to a post in a Facebook group that I only check weekly). This person made a comment about being a “proud witch and pagan.” I replied that I would be praying for her decision and wrote her name in my datebook. I was concerned about her eternal salvation, even though I don’t know her personally. (I will post photos of our exchange on our group page in a bit.) I received a reply from someone else, and don’t know how/if to reply to that. Or to ignore it and just not check the group, unless I am searching for info. Help me and pray for me, please.
She replied with tons of hate. I replied “I don’t hate you.” She replied to my prayer comment with an angry emoji. Guess I’ll let it go and just keep praying.
Oh no. I understand the quick reply. I try hard not to do that anymore. It causes us grief. But I like that you told her you do not hate her. Maybe she needed to hear that.
I’m so sorry Adrienne! That sounds like a really hard situation. It’s hard when we do what we feel God is calling us to do and we aren’t received well. I will be praying the Lord helps you to let it go.
Great song this morning “The Joy” by The Belonging Co. is good this morning!
“The Harvest is abundant….and the workers are few!” The harvest IS abundant- then and NOW!! And disciples are called to GO because God has us to tell! How will they know of the Saving Power and Everlasting life if we, his people, aren’t testifying?
I want to do the will of my Father God!! NOTHING is more amazing then seeing what the Spirit does in transforming people! The broken have HOPE! The orphans have a home. The sorrowful have JOY, and the anxious have peace!!
That is worth sharing and giving!! Oh how wonderful that WE get to be disciples, just like the Chosen! We are the chosen, yet we are too busy and distracted these days, or we don’t want to “be one of those!” Or maybe we just don’t feel like we are “qualified!” BUT we ARE!! God gives us just what we need with our personalities!! When I go to jail, I don’t need to have it perfect…I just go with love in my heart. When I love Jesus…that enables me! Now…I don’t know what I would do with demons! (But I have had some suspish people come in to disrupt and be contrite. I pray in the name of Jesus- demons must flee in the presence of Him!)
When people don’t “get it” it is not our job to keep trying to argue with them or beat them over the head, we move on. We have done our job..by sharing.
When I love the Lord with all my heart, soul….AND MIND we want to honor him in all of our ways. But I brought attention to “mind” because our minds are often the thing that gets us in trouble. Because our minds focus on the things of this world. And it is a backslide away from the Lord. Be aware, correct, stay in the word. I keep on Christian stations in my house (like the kitchen, and then also in the other part of my house, and car…that way it always brings your mind back to the Lord. I have done this for over 22 years and it really is a good practice. I love that my husband and my sister both keep their radios in the car on Klove now. It’s a simple practice. And those with kids and grands, it is absorbed by them as well! My grands called it Jesus music. And with my grandson is jail, his letters always mention how at our house he felt the love of Jesus (not in those words but alludes to it!) How important NOW when he needs it that God is revealing that to him. What you do in your household NOW matters for future generations. Reading Bible verses with them, praying with them. Letting them see that you LOVE the LORD with all your heart, soul and mind!!
As Mercy say- be blessed Sisters. And as Tina says be “covered in love, hugs, and prayers! Amen!
❤️
Happy Monday sweeties!
Another week to love on people, especially the “little people” God has given me to love! I love those little munchkins! I think its funny they don’t know this little old lady prays over them, silently!
MY son and the team made it home safely home! Thank you for praying. Can’t wait to hear the stories!
And that is such an amazing, important mission, being and intersession of prayer!!! We will see when we get to heaven ones that prayed for us and how it was revealed in their lives!! I remember not being able to “do” anything for my grandson when he was younger and sisters would say “just Pray for him!” It sounded so small…yet I would pray for teachers that would “see” him and “care” for him and pour praise into him. And later when he told me just that…I was like..Thank you Jesus, thank you!! So thank you for pouring into the munchkins!! That is your ministry!! You are a priest, as we are all called to be!
Me as a Martha during my time with Jesus…
Okay Lord, we’ve got so much to do. So
many things to clear out, fix and to figure out; things I need to tell you and to pray about and devotions to read and understand and yada yada. **I can’t just sit here and listen to a praise song and enjoy your presence today** We’ve got to much to do first.
Some days Jesus just wants to sit with me❤️
“Love the Lord your Godo with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,”p and “your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27
Heavenly Father, teach me what loving you with all my heart, soul and mind really looks like. Give me clarity, discernment, desire and understanding to know you, sit at your feet,to behold you and to serve you. Amen
❤️
Praying for you, Wendy.
Thank you so much Teresa. I really appreciate that. My husband will do my injection treatment today and it is very hard for both of us. Please pray that I can manage the side effects. Thank you again ❤️
I love that this chapter opens our eyes to 72 disciples being sent out.

Lynn, sweet friend, I’m so sorry to hear of your fall and broken bones. I’ll be praying for pain relief and healing. please take your meds. May your family and friends take good care of you. The Lord Wray you in His arms of comfort and strength ❤
The Lord wrap you in His arms and strength
NIV Application Commentary: “Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus portrays a person willing to learn from him, while Martha’s busyness pictures someone serving him. Disciples need to do both. In other words, discipleship is a balanced combination of two things: service and reflection. Mary shows the importance of reflecting on what Jesus teaches. Today that translates into time in Scripture and in the church’s instructing the disciples about their role in the world. It may involve moments of silence before God in prayer, listening for his voice. It is a great temptation to serve at the expense of being fed spiritually This is what Jesus’s remarks Martha means. Some activities can wait. There is a time to work and a time to listen.”
Please pray for my son Andrew who is a US serviceman.
Praying for your son, Andrew. ❤️
This is great!❤️ Martha also made me think about the way I spend time with God. Bringing my list things to go over and want done. When I need to set the agenda aside for while and just sit in His presence.
Praying for your son Andrew.
Praying for Andrew
Praying for Andrew ❤️
Praying for Andrew.
“Disciples need to do both”- thank you for this. Praying for Andrew. May the Lord watch over him and bless him with great strength and favors.
❤️
I often relate to Martha. Feeling anxieties about the day to come, work to accomplish, bills to pay, etc. I value my quiet time with the Lord each morning, and yet the nagging voice in my mind says, “Hurry up. You’ve got things to do.” Help me to slow down Lord and rest at Your feet!
Susan, you speak the words that are in my heart & mind.
Susan…I am the same. I realize I need to slow down, pray for guidance, then proceed. Too often, I jump up and do–on my own accord–usually, frustration follows.
Luke 10:21 ‘Lord of heaven and earth’
John 3:36 “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Thank you for the update on your young mama, continuing to pray for healing and provision. God bless you, your husband, her friends and therapists! Is meals on wheels an option in her area?

I’m reminded from lots of sides this weekend Who it is we are actually worshipping – this is the God of the universe. There is nothing more important than sitting at His feet and listening to Him!
Father, may we be humbled and grateful that You love us so much and may it overflow onto others we come in contact with today! Amen.
❤️❤️❤️
I’m going to sit in Luke 10:27 today.
.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind”
To remind me of whom I need to know for real, not necessarily whom I think or imagine I should know, but the One who loves me, you, mine, yours, more, much more than we’ll ever know.
.
More of you Lord.
Renew this fire that’s within my soul..
I want more of you Lord..
.
BUT GOD..
.
AMEN..
.
.
Happy Monday, covered in much, much love, hugs and prayers.❤️
Amen! ❤️
