Everywhere we look, we see the challenges of our imperfect world. Whether we’re on social media, reading the news, or just talking with others, it’s clear. We all face struggles—some we expect, some that surprise us. What matters is how we react or respond to these struggles and challenges. But there’s another element James addresses in our passage today: temptations.
Temptations can show up at any time. They are hard to resist, often catching us off guard. As James mentions, they start small. It reminds me of a fishing lure meant to attract a specific fish. In the same way, we’re often most tempted by the things we want the most. They can appear suddenly and seem harmless at first. But once we give in, our desires can lead us into sin. Just like a fish that bites a lure and gets caught, sin leads us down a path that “gives birth to death” (James 1:15).
No one promised following Christ would be easy. So how do we face trials and temptations? James pointed to endurance—sticking with it, persevering, and not giving up, even when it’s hard. And in 1 Corinthians 9, Paul compared our endurance in the faith to running a race.
Knowing we must endure trials and temptations in this world can be pretty disheartening, but there is hope in the promise given at the beginning of verse 12. We see that those who endure trials and temptations are called “blessed.” There is a promise in the midst of our endurance, a promise from Scripture that is not a “may be” or a “should be” or a “could be.” It’s definitive. It’s an eternal promise.
So what is this promise? If we remain steadfast, God will give us the “crown of life” (v.12). In the New Testament, the crown most often referred to the wreaths given to winners at athletic games—similar to the medals we give Olympic champions today. These crowns stood for victory and honor. When we endure in the faith, God promises us the victory and reward of eternal life.
Think about how you can best endure a trial or temptation. The fact is, some of you are walking through one right now, and some of you have just walked through a season of this. What does it look like to remain steadfast? You may need to admit a mistake or ask for help or accountability. You may need to repent and walk away from habitual sin. You might need to get on your hands and knees today and ask God for practical ways to endure. You might simply need to pray for strength to get through another day. Whatever your situation, take a step to break the cycle of temptation and trust in the victory Christ has already won for you.

Watching the NFL draft- so many young athletes acknowledging their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ- I think there’s a lot of life lessons to be learned in the Bible that apply to athletics… not that that’s the only point… but lessons are lessons….
I shared this on SRT She’s FB page, with pictures, but wanted to share it here since I know many of you aren’t on FB. I apologize it’s so long!
When I was first diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, I gave up on life. I stopped going most places, slept at least 12 hours a day, and spent all day in a chair reading. I even stopped walking my dog. It didn’t take long to become physically depleted.
A couple months ago, I learned I have the physiology in my brain for Alzheimer’s, but my cognitive tests showed no sign of dementia.
This changed my attitude toward life. And I got into therapy, and started taking physical therapy. I gained strength, mobility and balance. I started taking walks again. And I started reading God’s Word again.
This week, we’re on a mini-vacation in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and I was convinced a short hike would be fine. Turned out, the hike, while on a paved trail, was straight down a mountain. I thought I was okay going down. But once to the small falls at the bottom, my legs were shaking and my knees were giving out. I really wasn’t sure how I would make it back up.
I sat on a bench and rested and prayed. I tried to send out a prayer request, but had no service. I knew if my SRT sisters prayed, I’d make it! I told my husband to pray.
I just kept repeating two verses: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me; and Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth.
There were lots of steps, and a straight up the mountain trail. I could walk a little way before having to lean against a tree and rest.
BUT GOD kept giving me His strength, sometimes to keep going one more step at a time. Flowers I didn’t see on the way down stood out to me to give me hope, and strength.
I eventually made it back up the trail and to the car.
I told you that long story for the opportunity to sing the praises of God. He is keeping me from dementia, He has restored my physical strength, He is helping me through a good therapist to accept that I have the physiology of Alzheimer’s, He is giving me the strength to leave the kidney cancer with Him. And it was 100% Him who got me back up that mountain today.
God is SO GOOD!
❤️❤️❤️
I love this! Praise God – He is SO good. Thank you for sharing your story, Teresa. Prayer works in the here and now, in the tomorrows, the ups and downs (as you saw!) and the big and the small. ❤️
❤️
This is such a great testimony, TERESA!!! I felt like I was right there with you on that trail as I read that! Thank you for sharing; it wadn’t too ling at all. I would have happily read more! ❤
Rest In the victory Christ has already won❤️✝️
I will be honest, sometimes I want to quit the race. I don’t mean to walk away from my faith – I pray that never happens – but to just say , “Lord, take me home.” But that’s usually when I need some rest, and once I’ve taken some time to rejuvenate, I am praying for the Lord to put me back in the game. Praise His Holy Name for rest!!
A therapist taught me years ago: HALT- if you’re Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired- stop. Meet THOSE needs and THEN respond to your questions/confusions/desires/etc. When I remember to follow the advice, I’m always grateful I did!! :)

“But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire” this verse really caught my attention. Human’s desires evolve with time, depending on the exposure and the influence under GOD or of the world. I really like this quote from Charles Spurgeon, “Beware of presuming you are saved. If your heart is renewed, if you hate the things you once loved, and love the things you once hated, if you have really repented, if there is a thorough change of mind within you, then you have reason to rejoice”. Temptations are more than just struggles, they are indicators that point directly into the voids of our hearts. They reveal empty spaces that are not yet occupied and filled by God. And when we identify the void, a few verses down the most lovely hint is given, I love this trail of thought, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above”. The hint for how to handle these voids is given, we are invited to go directly to our Merciful Father to ask for it. He makes it clear that He has every good and perfect gift to lavish on us to meet our deepest needs. Isn’t God so sweet? Praise the Lord for His goodness and generosity. Be blessed dear sisters.
I love that Jesus counters the temptations of Satan with scripture. So good. The words of truth will counter the lies of the enemy every time!
I need to remember to quote Scripture every time I’m tempted.
It’s comforting to remember that God is not against me in hard seasons. He is for me and gives what is good ❤️
I am so grateful to God for this too! It’s easy to get caught up in the negative aspects of this world, but God is gracious to give us His love and attention! Praise Jesus!
Sorry continued here: I get distracted. Please bring my focus back to you and what truly matters. Amen!
The enemy uses distraction to get get my eyes and heart away from God’s will for my life. He distracts me with myself, things that need to get done around the house of my phone. I’m sorry God for the times
You are not alone, Jennifer! If I let myself go too long in the mornings without prayer and Bible study, I will totally be focused on everything else. I have to remember when I first wake that prayer and Bible study are the firsts of each day. Keep running the race!
Something I once heard a preacher say a long time ago about James 1:14-15, the warning is about LSD! Lust (L) → leads to sin (S), sin → leads to death (D). I’ve never forgotten it.
—
Luke 4:13, When the devil had finished all his tempting, he left Him until an opportune time…Just because we have victory over the temptation, doesn’t mean it’s over for good – he’ll (the devil) be back to try again so be on guard!
—
1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Run the race as if you are going to win! Before you compete – go into strict training, i.e. deny self, read the word, study the word, obey the word and be a prayer warrior!
—
Trials and testings have come and will come. I pray that I am well prepared to stand firm, use the Word as my weapon, and to call out to God who always makes a way of escape. (1 Corinthians 10:13 – a great verse to memorize)

Happy Thursday She’s. Praying for you all.

So good. Thank you Sharon.
LOVE THIS!!! ❤️
The pairing up of TRIALS and TEMPTATIONS, to me, is nothing accidental by James… When did Satan try to temp Jesus? When he was hungry. When his human self was not functioning clearly with food/drink/rest the way we are made to function. It was a low blow and a clear opportunity to take advantage of someone while they’re weak. Couple of things I notice…
✨
1. Jesus fasted– so he’d just spent over a month (yikes!) spiritually FEASTING on time with God the Father. Prayer replaced food. He was FULL, ladies – but of Spiritual power and knowledge instead of pita and hummus… And know what he did NOT do when satan approached? Flee. I find this interesting. We are told to flee temptation but Jesus walked right along with it and I think, again, the pairing of events is key. He had no need to flee temptation because he was filled with the knowledge, truth, power and LOVE of God. There was, quite frankly, nothing Satan could offer him that he would trade for doing the will of God. He knew where he stood, the power he had, and I think that should be a lesson to each of us. He didn’t entice it, ask for it, or entertain it — he spoke truth to it and stood his ground against it. And temptation FLEED HIM.
✨
2. When we are going through trials we hurt, have a tendency to be scared, often forget the promises we have as adopted, legal heirs to the Victorious Kingdom. And that is when James knew that temptations would have their greatest power. When we’re unsure of our situation, of what God could POSSIBLY be doing, temptations come. The offer to control our own destiny– manifest what outcomes we want to have. Basically- remove God from his throne in our lives and replace him with our own idol of self-knowledge and understanding. We stop trusting him and that is exactly what the enemy wants and is glorified through.
Our salvation is secure — our receiving of this added blessing in heaven is what is at risk, along with missing out on what God is doing in and around us right here on earth. Praying we can each recognize when the enemy is throwing low blows and trying to take advantage of the weak so that we can envelop ourselves under the loving, comforting protection of our Very Good Shepherd. ❤️
❤️
Heidi- great stuff! Yes, temotation fled Him! That always made me pause, but I never thought of it like you did! ❤
“And temptation FLEED HIM” – thank you for showing us the difference.❤️
Thanks Heidi for pointing out these truths!!!
Eye on the prize!
JD Walt says: ‘ We aren’t losing the battle to sin for lack of going to church, Bible study, prayer or even fasting. We are losing because we are trying to do it alone. We are losing because we have not trusted another human being with the vulnerable knowledge of our broken dispositions, sinful proclivities, and otherwise untrained desires. Sin wins in isolation. It does not stand a chance against the humble and holy work of brothers and sisters watching over one another in love.”
” God, our Father, I am so easily distracted an dragged away. Soften my heart to become aware of the first knock of sin and give me the grace not to walk away but to run. Attune me to my sin proclivities and propensities, and help me to find others who can help me defeat these ways that distract and defeat me in Jesus’s name, amen.”

Great Scriptures and devo!
✨
From Warren Wiersbe NKJV Study Bible:
“One of the enemy’s tricks is to convince us that our Father is holding out on us, that He does not really love us and care for us. When Satan approached Eve, he suggested that if God really loved her, He would permit her to eat of the forbidden tree. When Satan tempted Jesus, he raised the question of hunger, saying, in effect, “If your Father loves you, why are you hungry?” (Matt. 4:1–4). Since God is good, we do not need any other person (including Satan) to meet our needs. We will be better off hungry in the will of God than full outside the will of God. Once we start to doubt God’s goodness, we will be attracted to Satan’s offers, and the natural desires within will reach out for his bait.”

Commented on your comment yesterday, CHERYL BLOW. In case you didn’t see it… striving versus abiding. I will be remembering that one! ❤️
…but we do it to get a crown that will last forever…….
Guys, I have had a challenging week. Sunday evening youngest son fell head first out of trampoline, Monday my n bathroom flooded 1/4 of the house, all three levels, Tuesday the dryer broke (we run laundry daily), Wednesday daughter woke me up in the middle of the night with a toothache, this morning other daughter just threw up. I would love prayers for patience and good attitude.
Praying right now Brenda.
Praying, Brenda!
Prayers on the way, friend. Hang in there!
Oh, Brenda! What a week you have had. Praying for peace in the midst of the chaos, and that the Lord would grant you patience and compassion as you seek His provision.
Praying for you, Brenda ❤️
Brenda, that’s a bunch of heavy stuff! I am so glad your son is okay- how scary that had to be! Praying for endurance for you as you address each trial. Praying your daughter just has a short-lived bug and that minimal cleanups are required! At least getting the dryerreplaced won’t be too physically taxing for you. Praying it won’t be a financial drain added to the expense of the water damage! Hugs, sister! ❤
Oh man…so many challenges. Have prayed.
Praying for you Brenda!!
AH! I’ve had these weeks, Brenda!!! I think if you are a mom, you can’t avoid it sometimes. These little people have a way of “showing up and showing out” at some of the most inconvenient times… ;) What a loving, caring mom you are to even see how it is wearing on you and to ask for prayer and support. KUDDOS!! You’re doing it and you’re doing it so, so well. Praying for you to have REST and for your kiddos to be well. Grateful his grace is sufficient for each and every second of our situations and that you will FEEL it in your bones today ❤️
Wow, so much going on – praying for it all!
Praying for you Brenda! So sorry.
Brenda, I’m praying for you and your family
Oh my word. Today really struck me. I know that there are temptations all around us and the devil is just waiting for us to succumb. Especially in my younger years I did a lot of succumbing. Now, as I’ve been through trials and come out on the other side, only because of Jesus those temptations don’t seem so interesting.
I am so grateful for a Father who is a loving and forgiving Savior. He doesn’t tempt us, but sometimes he allows us to go through things that will teach us and make us stronger, I believe.
Thank you, Lord. Thank you for your forgiveness and your direction. Please help me to continue to follow you and what you have for me and not be sidetracked by those temptations.
Amen! ❤

I think of my mother in law this morning as I write this. The priest talked about Joan’s love. Everyone always felt it from her. He told us to think about how her love impacted us and to take it with us. To live that out. It was beautiful.
.
I pray for steadfastness. To recognize when I’m tempted by sin. Or when I am tempting it! When I unrecognizably am leaning towards it. It so easy to do if our eyes and hearts are not aligned with God.
First, so glad you had that kind of relationship with your mother-in-law! Prayers for the family.
Second, well said! ❤
I’m really drawn to James because it feels like the grounded, practical expression of what it means to let God take the lead. It reminds me that, as followers, we aren’t meant to grip every situation tightly or manage it all on our own. Instead, James gently shows that when we walk with Christ, our faith takes shape in tangible, everyday ways—guiding how we act, respond, and live alongside Him.
Amen!
“Tangible, everday ways”- so good! ❤
♥️
I love the practical ways that we can ask God for endurance. James letter is the practical side of being a Christian and sometimes, it really does just come down to the nitty gritty of doing the work- endurance.
Praise be to God that we have a beautiful reward waiting for us.
Amen
Sin temptations are so frustrating, maddening, tough, discouraging and I definitely struggle with some seemingly life long strongholds. As I read these passages this mornjng, scripture clearly points out its my own evil fleshly desire, my weakness that fuels this. I am decieved that a temporary gratification or that no one sees or knows makes it ok.
“But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desire. 15 Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death. Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.” James 1:14-16
Running away and resisting is not easy and then on top of that the enemy has a hay day in my thoughts, emotions of the weakness, the follow up of guilt, shame, defeat, disappointment. I am reminded over and over again to press on, to remain steadfast, to cry out to the Lord for forgiveness, deliverance from this stronghold, to rebuke and speak against the grip of satan in the mighty name of Jesus who is the only One with authority over my life. He is the One that brings hope and victory over darkness, sin and sorrow.
Thank you Lord for your forgiveness, grace, mercy, redemption and hope. You desire to bring life, true fullness, and joy. Help me to stand firm, to resist all that comes my way that is not from you and not give in to fleshly desires. Lead me Lord and help to look only to you. Amen

John 1:14-15
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
.
Forty-ish years ago, some of us in a young adults group at church were doing this very thing. Weak faith, allowing ourselves to be distracted and enticed by things and situations, attempting to walk on the exact line between right and wrong. Failing, then falling on the wrong side, which quickly became the norm rather the exception. Lesson learned, stay far away from things I know are not pleasing to God, rather than seeing just how close I can get without crossing the line. If I have that mindset, I would be sure to cross it.

GM ladies. I spoke to my friend last night and I believe our friendship will stand the test, but her husband will not even see me and wrote a 3 page scathing letter for her to give me. Our families (girls) are best friends and we consider them family, and this will definitely change the dynamic. I thought they would be able to see that this was not just my decision, and to be honest, did not give it much more thought at the time the decision was made. His letter basically told me our friendship was over. I don’t think the punishment fits the crime. I am leaning on the fact that God knows my heart, and he gave me a quote on instagram.
Someone asked me, “aren’t you going to tell your side?” I just smiled and said, “No, the ones who matter already know my heart. The rest will believe what they want. God knows the truth and His judgement is enough for me”.
No crime in my view, Tami. A family decision was made that didn’t favor him for whatever reason and being friends with someone doesn’t mean you are obligated to only do business with them. When our family member passed away several years go, the executor chose not to use a close family member for the necessary legal work. There were a few complaints but everyone dropped it and moved on, recognizing the executor’s desire for the work to be impartial even if others didn’t agree.
Have to say, the firm grip on his hard stance and anger is surprising. Thankful your friendship has survived.
I am happy to hear that you had a positive conversation with your friend, but how unfortunate that her husband response is so harsh. What a deep hurt. Have prayed for continued clarity, understanding and that the Lord would work in hurts to bring resolve.
Oftentimes, it is better not to do business with friends or family as it can get complicated and cause division if it doesn’t go well. It seems by his reaction, it might have been the right choice not to do business with him. I know this is hurtful as friendship should rise above this and I do believe he should understand that. Thankful your friend and you were able to talk and hopefully he will come around over time. I’ll be praying for Jesus’ healing hand in this relationship (with both of them) and that over time, he will come around. Praying your families can move on in your friendship.
Anger like that tends to stem from deep hurt, even fear. It’s encouraging to see your Christlike response. I hope you can find space to pray for him, his heart, his hurt — most likely it is something much deeper, much greater than your “offense”, for him to have such a harsh reaction. I’ve felt the deep pain of relational loss of a very close friend. There was no fight, no disagreement — literally nothing. Found out later there was historical hurt in her heart she never worked to heal and as events/celebrations came into my life she apparently grew bitter against it. A lot of “why her, not me” kind of thinking. Not that she ever shared this, but I was told by mutual friends. But know what? Didn’t matter the reasoning- My heart was still crushed, regardless of the cause of the rift. Praying your relationships can find healing and God can be glorified at how you pray for and handle what power in it you have ❤️❤️❤️
I’m glad that you spoke with your friend and cleared the air. I am sorry for the way her husband has reacted. He is either very troubled in his soul about something, or he’s very immature. Continued prayers that it will sort it self out in time. ❤️
3 pages long? I am so sorry. A true friend understands that business and family/friends often don’t mix well, especially during emotional times. Demanding a commission from a grieving friend’s tragedy sounds like entitlement, not loyalty. I would not feel obligated. I pray that your friendship with his wife would be a comfort to you. I am praying for him and improvement of situation. Hugs Tami.
I love your response of not needing to respond. You are certainly right that the ONE who knows your heart, knows. And that’s really what matters. Im happy your friendship with your friend will survive. With time, prayer, patience and love, perhaps her husband will come around too.
Amen

I lost mine too Kelly :/
My laptop refreshed.
Many said though exactly my thoughts as well! Trying to stay strong in the trials and temptations. Keeping our eyes on him, and that is the way to abide, and he will perfect our faith, when given to him…day after day. I was very double minded for decades. It does harm to me, and to others..in the faith and especially those that do not know Jesus! Not that we don’t have ups and downs, and seasons, but that is the growth process. But you should see transformation and more eagerness to follow and serve your Savior and Lord because of his mercy and grace for you!
Ya’ll have a great Thursday!

As my daughters biryhday approaches, approaches, I am transported to that time and “that race”
Boy, that was a tough one! Probably my most challenging, my most difficult, my most heart breakingly, mentally and emotionally toughest. So much of that time was spent wanting to give up on it all.. life.. this world.
.
I was losing heart, and was so weary even before the start..
.
BUT GOD..
.
Tears roll freely down this life worn face, as I write.. BUT GOD.. As i held fast to Him, He picked me up slowly, one day (step) at a time, until the momentum of His love and care kicked in, until His loving and comforting arms filled, (and continue to do so), me, with the strength to walk first.. then in His enduring love, raised my head to fix my eyes on Him, on Jesus, the author and absolute perfecter of my (our) faith and story..
.
The ‘race’ continues, but with my eyes firmly, though sometimes wavering, fixed on Jesus, ‘..my path is levelled under my feet, so that I am no longer disabled through my lameness, sin or fear, but rather healing beautifully in the Saviours love and victory won for me..
.
AMEN..
.
Thursday, and the Son (sun) is shining, Wahoo!
Be blessed today my dears, knowing we are never lost or too far gone for His victory to cover us..
Much love covered in prayers, prayers, prayers, wrapped in hugs from across the pond..❤️

Good morning! Really convicted by todays passage. Especially the verse on sin when fully grown gives way to death. So often I can see my sin as harmless and insignificant but if I let it grow it always leads to death. Time to flee from it when it is small and not let it grow! Prayers appreciated today as I am teaching paediatric life support in the hospital I work in and it’s my final sign off before I am a qualified instructor and I’m quite nervous!! Praying for you all this now!
Prayers for the peace that passes understanding and for all to go well.
