Psalms 144–146

Open Your Bible

Psalm 144:1-15, Psalm 145:1-21, Psalm 146:1-10

Don’t you love a beautiful sunrise?
It is my favorite part of the day.
The sky slowly shifts from purple to lavender to pink to orange and finally bursts into gold as the sun replaces darkness and brings forth light.

Like a sunrise is like an eruption of colors and praise into the sky, it seems to be creation’s way of boasting of the glory of God.

Even the birds burst out in song at the break of the day. Just like I find myself at times in the car or in worship suddenly erupting in praise, dawn sets off a spontaneous stream of melody.

Psalm 146 is a recounting of the reasons to burst into praising the Lord. In ten verses, it summarizes, encapsulates, and bullet points the faithfulness of God—a list that moves us to praise Him and boast about who He is.

He is the God of creation and salvation. He is the God who frees us, helps us, and provides for us. Generation after generation He has demonstrated His faithfulness to those who love Him.

As we approach the heart of Holy Week, may we recall the depth of God’s love (Ephesians 3:17–19) and the miraculous ways God brings us closer to Him. He has sent His Son Jesus as the Prince of Peace to rescue us, to be our salvation. He has made a way for us to be filled with the fullness of God!

God’s faithfulness through generations is spoken throughout the stories of the Bible and in the recounting of our own generational stories. As we recall His faithfulness, may our hearts and mouths burst out in praise like the sunrise that shines His glory!

Even through our darkest seasons, light arises. He is our hope—our expectation. And this final phrase in Psalm 146:10 declares an outburst of the hope that reflects the dawn of the Easter message.

The LORD reigns forever;
Zion, your God reigns for all generations.
Hallelujah!
—Psalm 146:10

God reigns for all generations. How lucky are we? The study talked about sunrise and birds chirping in the dawn of a new day and that paints a beautiful picture of Gods perfection. He thought of everything. All the pieces connect and have a purpose. It helps to sometimes just think about the birds chirping of after a sunrise to remember that what a gift it is to see this new day. A gift of hope, grace, and redemption. The gift of a new day gives us a fresh start to follow Jesus every day. Personally I feel in the middle of a storm but I know that there will be a new day marked by a sunrise and birds chirping. God is good! Amen

My verse for today is Psalm 146:5 “Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.”

This verse reminds me to place my hope in God, not in people or circumstances. Even when life feels heavy, God is faithful and steadfast.

Thank you, dear sisters for praying for my husband’s interview on Friday. He said it went great. The lady was going to set up another interview this week.

He has another job interview today. Please pray the Lord bless him with a job soon. There are moments in the day, he gets anxious and panics, and it’s so heartbreaking to see.

Praying God will bring the right job his way. God bless you all!

    Joyful in praise!
    Hope in the LORD!
We can do that, SHES! ❤

An old hymn (one I loved to sing years ago) came to mind as I read the devo.
    SONG SHARE:
WE’RE MARCHING TO ZION (Isaac Watts and Robert Lowry)
VERSE 1 and 4 with refrain-

1 Come, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known,
Join in a song with sweet accord,
Join in a song with sweet accord,
    And thus surround the throne,
    And thus surround the throne.

    Refrain:
    We’re marching to Zion,
    Beautiful, beautiful Zion;
    We’re marching upward to Zion,
    The beautiful city of God.

    Verse 4
    Then let our songs abound,
    And every tear be dry;
    We’re marching thro’ Immanuel’s ground,
    We’re marching thro’ Immanuel’s ground
    To fairer worlds on high,
To fairer worlds on high. [Refrain]

    Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤
Special prayers for those of us who deal with health issues as we prepare for our Easter gathering, dinners, etc. May God strengthen and protect us from setbacks/hindrances, and may He grant traveling mercies. ❤

    1. B says:

      Funny thing regarding your songshare—
Several years ago we purchased a washer/dryer that plays a tune similar (not exact at all) to the chorus of “We’re Marching to Zion” when it completes it’s cycle. Sometimes I sing along! :)
When I pointed it out to our adult daughter, she sadly commented that if the company realized that they’d probably have to change it… :/

      1. Tina says:

I think your machine is an LG make??♥️

      2. Cee Gee says:

Wow! My machine ‘plays a tune’ but I am rarely nearby to hear it. I will try to listen! ❤

    2. Indiana Elaine says:

Oh Cee Gee, I haven’t heard that song in a long time. As a child, we used to march into Bible school singing that song. Brings back many memories.
Thanks for the prayer for health and travels. We fly home to Indiana tomorrow and I just found out I have shingles! Ugh!!!!!!

      1. Cee Gee says:

Sweet memory! Bless your heart! Praying your case doesn’t develop severely and that you can enjoy that family time! Gentle hugs! ❤

    3. Gwineth52 says:

      Hey Cee Gee
Your Song Share reminded me of…
“‘Trampin’, a traditional Negro spiritual, famously recorded by artists like Marian Anderson and Patti Smith, featuring the core lyrics: “I’m trampin’, trampin’, tryin’ to make heaven my home.” The song describes a difficult spiritual journey (tramping) toward heaven.”
      We got this, Shes!

      1. Cee Gee says:

Thanks, Gwineth, I will check that out! ❤

    4. Tina says:

      ♥️♥️

  13. Wendy B says:

I had something all written out and it disappeared and now my time is short, but I’ll add this for now. Such beautiful Psalms to start the day and a great devotional for those of us that love sunrises, all things nature and really see God’s mighty hand in creation.

He is our fortess, refuge and strength. Our hope and deliverer. He is worthy of all praise, adoration and words of thanksgiving. He is righteous, near, watches over all and He remains. All praise to our awesome and mighty God who reigns forever. Amen

    1. Cee Gee says:

Hate missing what I know was a great comment, but love your synopsis, too! ❤❤❤

    2. Tina says:

      I’m sorry..
      BUT GOD..♥️

  14. Rhonda J. says:

Well, I can’t say I love the sunrises. I love sleeping more, until the sun is actually coming through loud and bright!lol My husband LOVES sunrises and often sends me pictures since he sees them every morning. I do however, love bursting in praise and thankfulness every morning no matter where the sun is. I love hearing the birds too! Even that confused woodpecker that thinks the light post is a tree. :/
To look, and know that God created all of nature around us. All the unique and beautiful places around the world. His glorious and mighty hand. And he cares for each and every person here on Earth! Wanting them to come to him and know him. Crazy that so many don’t recognize him, that all this is randomness..the big bang theory. May we be the ones that tell of Him, what he does in our lives, how we KNOW of his mighty works.” He is the God who frees us, helps us, and provides for us. Generation after generation He has demonstrated His faithfulness to those who love Him” writes Vina. And for those that don’t know him yet..he is always ready, and drawing them near. Lord open the eyes of those that don’t know you. I think of many of my own family members. They don’t even believe there is a God, let alone one that is so personal and good. Open their eyes Lord, reveal yourself to them. Oh how their lives would be different! And those prodigals of ours, Lord, we know they have the knowledge of you in them. They have fallen away, gone their own way. But just like the son in the Bible, they will realize one day all they left behind. And they will want to come home! We pray faithfully for this day to be sooner than later.
Please pray right now for my sister, she is just going in to visit her son in person. She drove a long way, and she gets to see him today for 3 hours!! And tomorrow. I pray as he sees his mom’s overflowing love for him that it resonates that there is a God that is just the same. Loves him right where he is, offering a freedom more important than the physical freedom he so longs for. Please pray they are both blessed and edified in this visit. It is such a hard, hard trial for both. His name is Christian.

    1. AZ Walker says:

Praying for God to work in Christian’s heart and that the visit will go well.

    2. Cee Gee says:

Rhonda, first you make my heart laugh at your opening- I sleep in most mornings, too, but I do love sunrises and sunsets. We never seem to be able to get out on the beach for either when we get to the coast.
Next, you bless my heart with your words for the prodigals and prayer for your sister and Christian. Did you watch Songs of Faith in American Idol last night? A contestant from MN sang Cody Johnson’s song:
Chris Tungseth Brings Heart To Cody Johnson’s
“By Your Grace” – Songs Of Faith | American Idol 2026
      ❤❤❤

      1. Rhonda J. says:

I did not! My hubs came up and told me it was good that he was watching it in his room! :/ I’m bummed missed it, I love that they have a night of Faith!!! Maybe I can watch the whole episode on YouTube!

    3. Tami says:

Praying for Christian and your sister Rhonda! How long is his sentence?

      1. Rhonda J. says:

        Thank you, all of you!
Tami..4 years!! For a first offense EVER! And all a he/she said. He pleaded guilty thinking to take the easier route, you can imagine how shocking this is, and breaks my sisters heart.
She got to visit for more than 3 hours today! When I talked to her she was with Christians 4 year old little girl. So sad to think he will miss all these years.
We always say—One instance/ or one choice life can change so fast. Thank ya’ll for the prayers. I email him all the time and talk about the Lord. I can’t wait till the day he tells me he accepted Jesus!

    4. Tina says:

Prayerful all went well for your sister and Christian.. God is good..♥️

  15. Norma Nashold says:

Amen! He opens the eyes of the blind! Hope for my family members who are not yet walking with the Lord. He is indeed slow to anger, abounding in mercy, full of compassion, oh how deep is His love.

  16. Erika Hodgens says:

“I see Your face in every sunrise…the colors of the morning are inside Your eyes…. The world awakens in the light of the day….. I look up to the sky and say- You’re beautiful.” Great praise song called “You’re Beautiful” by Phil Wickam

    1. Tina says:

I LOVE this song.! i am often moved to tears when i hear it.. Thank you for the reminder of this beautiful song..
      .
      My favorite verse..
      .
When we arrive at eternity’s shore
Where death is just a memory and tears are no more
We’ll enter in as the wedding bells ring
Your bride will come together and we’ll sing
      You’re beautiful
      Oh, You’re beautiful..♥️♥️♥️
      .

  17. Susan Burley says:

What an encouraging group of scriptures this morning!! I loved the reminder in Psalm 145:9 that God is good to all. I think it can be easy to be influenced by this world to judge certain people or exclude them, but God sees them and loves each of His children just the same!

    1. Tina says:

      Amen..♥️♥️
      .

  18. Cat-tee says:

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and great in faithful love. The Lord is good to everyone; his compassion rests on all he has made.

  19. Searching says:

    Ps 144:15
    Happy are the people who are in such a state;

Happy are the people whose God is the Lord!
    .
The previous verses are full of blessing and plenty – sons healthy and growing (like plants) and daughters (tall (as pillars) and beautiful (love the description in NKJV, sculptured in palace style), plenty of food and peace all around him.
I’ve never seen peace in my lifetime- either my country has been at war with other countries or we’ve been at war among ourselves. How wonderful it would be to have peace in the world, along with the peace we have in our hearts as Christ followers.

Ladies, I’m literally in the mountains of Tennessee at this moment watching the sunrise. When I read the author’s opening line, it was like she was hanging out next to me. I love watching the day break and the birds are singing a symphony! Wish I could share it with you all!

    1. Searching says:

      ❤️❤️❤️

    2. Cee Gee says:

I can so easily picture that! ❤❤❤ One of my very favorite morning memories:

    18. Teresa Donley says:

Sandy, my heart aches for you. That is such a hard diagnosis to hear, and a difficult road to walk. I’m praying for you now that God will wrap you in comfort and peace, and you will feel His presence with you at all times.

  22. Tami says:

145 v15 All eyes look to you,
8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
and you give them their food at the proper time.
The Lord raises up those who are oppressed.
    16 You open your hand
    The Lord loves the righteous.
and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Praying to today that the eyes of our prodigals would be opened and that the Lord would give us all patience, hope, and perseverance as we wait on his “proper time”. Lord as I wait for you in this situation with my daughter Chela, please help me to keep my eyes on you, trusting that you have her and will be faithful to your promises.
    Have a blessed day ladies!

    3. Tina says:

joining you in your prayer for Chela..♥️♥️
      .

  23. Kimberly says:

My hope is secure because the Lord reigns forever.”
    (Psalm 146:5, 10)
    .
In Psalm 144, I am reminded we are dependent, but not alone, because God is our rock.
    .
In Psalm 145, we see that the One who reigns is gracious, compassionate, and faithful.
    .
In Psalm 146, I am called to place my hope fully in Him, not in the ever changing things of this world.
    .
So this truth isn’t just that God reigns, it’s that the One in control, God alone, is good, faithful, and personal.
    .
“The Lord reigns forever; Zion, your God reigns for all generations. Hallelujah!” 146:10

    1. Jane K says:

      So good, Kimberly

    2. Tina says:

amen. a journaling bibl e with notes for each g’child is perfect for this

    1. Rhonda J. says:

I love this idea, to have a journal/bible for each grandchild.
Lifting you up in prayer Sandi for that diagnosis.

  26. Kelly (NEO) says:

Psalm 145:4 “One generation will declare your works to the next and will proclaim your mighty acts.”
    .
This is a good reminder to speak of God’s goodness to us so that the next generation knows what God does for us on the daily. We cannot just assume that they will notice or make the connection without our guidance and our retelling of God’s mercy, grace, and care as our “Ebenezers”
    .
    Praying for your requests.
May you have a blessed day.

    1. Sandi says:

      beautiful

    2. Tami says:

That verse stood out to me for our prodigals!

    3. Susan Burley says:

Yes! When I was with my nanny family full time, I started the tradition of telling them Jesus loves you & so do I every night before bed. Fast forward a couple months, and their Mom said their youngest has been saying that to them at bedtime.

    4. Rhonda J. says:

So true! That’s why I am also telling my groups…to Journal!! Write down what God is doing in your life, it will be a great asset to those that love you to see how God worked in your life and was important to you! :) I love reading anything my Madre wrote about herself, although I don’t have much. My husband’s mother on the other hand has a few journal and since I never met her, it is so good to read them! She had a great faith in the Lord, evident by them!!

    5. Cee Gee says:

Truth, Kelly! Blessing before meals, nighttime prayers and sharing, “thank You, God” spoken for big and small favors, etc. – all daily opportunities.

    6. Shar says:

That’s the verse that really stood out to me in today’s reading. I wonder if this is something that we really need to focus on as Christians today. Our children and young people have so many voices influencing them that the voices declaring the wonders of the Lord need to be louder. I will continue to think on this…

    7. Tina says:

I love this Kelly.. our Ebenezers..♥️

  27. Donna Mitchell says:

    Hallelujah

  28. Tina says:

I was singing praises even before I started reading the devotional!
I remembered the last few Psalms praised, glorified, acknowledged, were full of joy and happiness, filled with gratitude for whom the author knew and felt GOD was!
    .
As you know, praise is hard in the storm.
Praise is hard when things fall apart.
Praise is hard when life is not looking as you hoped it would…
    .
    BUT GOD..
    .
HE is still worthy of Praise, whatever the situation, whatever the score, whatever the journey..
    .
    Even when..
    .
    Absolutely even when..
I really do need to remember this.. daily!
    .
He is MY Rock and Salvation.
He is my Protector. My Provider.
    He is compassionate.
He is kind, full of mercy, Faithful..
    He is near .
    He is my Hope.
    .
I am happy, because I have the GOD of Jacob to help me, whatever life throws at me, and I depend on Him..
He sets me free from my sins, my wrongdoings..
He opens my blind eyes(to what is not of or from Him)..
He lifts me up, when I fall down, be it through exhaustion or just life..always.
    .
    The LORD is King forever.
    .
He is King forever, and ever.
    .
    Hallelujah, Praise the LORD.
    .
    AMEN..
    .
