The Night Is Nearly Over

Open Your Bible

Revelation 3:20, Romans 13:11-14, 1 Peter 1:3-21

If heaven had a dictionary, the definition for short would be vastly different than yours and mine.

In the context of time, we think short means insignificant, a gap between more important things…

“I’m going to take a short walk.”
“Do you have time for a short phone call?”
“Let’s take a short break.”

But the Lord must have a different kind of short in mind. That is, after all, how His Word describes the season we all find ourselves in.

Even though for now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials.
—1 Peter 1:6 (emphasis mine)

No one would describe their season of suffering, no matter how long it takes, as short. That’s true of the little “w” waits we endure as we navigate illness, heartache, and need. It’s especially true of the big “W” wait we’re all enduring as we long for Jesus to come back and establish His kingdom of righteousness and love. It’s been two millennia since His ascension! The wait feels anything but short.

The weeks after Christmas can feel like a parable of this reality.

We’ve seen His glory. We’ve tasted His goodness. We’ve felt the warmth that only comes when many in the world are united around worshiping Him. The contrast is too stark. The darkness is less tolerable now. The wait until Christmas comes again feels impossibly long. Our souls groan, “Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus.” We’ve seen too great a light to trudge through the darkness for another year.

Ah, but we are one Christmas closer to seeing our Savior face-to-face. Whether He grants you eight Christmases or eighty, each one is moving you toward the moment when you will leave this world behind and enter the place He’s been preparing for you.

However long He asks us to hold on, it will feel short compared to an eternity with Him. Through His Word, He has given us the recipe for waiting well.

Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
—1 Peter 1:13

Think about Jesus.
Dwell on Jesus.
Talk about Jesus.
Sing to Jesus.
Obsess over Jesus.

Pass the time, however long it may be, between this moment and the moment you see Him face-to-face considering the One who has promised to make all things new.

Oh Lord, we long to be with you. As the darkness of January stretches out before us, we are tempted to grow faint, but we know the Light is coming. Light of the World, you are coming back. Superglue our eyes to you as we wait for your glorious return. Amen.

Thank you for this, Erin Davis and the passages for today.

In this “short” waiting complacency is not an option and I just need to be fully fixed on Jesus and to continually be positioned to be ready. Today’s reading is both encouraging and challenging for my heart.
Like Tina and many others, the beautiful hymn, Turn your Eyes Upon Jesus comes to mind for today. ❤️

Such great comments snd sharing today, SRT sisters and I want to respond and reply to so many but time doesn’t permit at the moment. Thank you and praying for your requests.

It seems like we have waited forever for the return of Jesus, but if he had come back sooner, WE wouldn’t have had the chance to be born and added to his kingdom! So I shall be grateful for his patience. ❤️

Happy Friday shes. What a sweet and practical devotion. I really appreciate the practical steps that are outlined by ERIN (thank you ERIN!). What stood out to me and many of us is the “superglue our eyes to JESUS” phrase. I love superglue lol, it’s my go to solution for broken toys. What keeps us from fixing our eyes on the Lord?
    .
I explore some temptations that can draw our eyes off Him, and we can drown and sink slowly. These are often subtle. Comfort and ease, the desire for a pain-free, convenient life can quietly replace dependence on Christ. It will lead us to avoid obedience as it feels costly. Resisting spiritual growth because it requires sacrifice. Choosing convenience over conviction. Israel longed for Egypt’s comfort rather than God’s freedom. Fear and anxiety, these minimize God and magnifies circumstances, remedy: Psalm 56:3 “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You”. Success and achievement can take our eyes off Him real fast. Success can be more spiritually dangerous than failure. As the New Year comes, many might set their resolutions, and some can often be centered around achievement and success. But watch out, for it is dangerous to measure one’s worth by productivity and results. We can stray by taking credit over what God provides. “And David had success in all his undertakings, for the LORD was with him” 1 Samuel 18:14. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” Proverbs 16:3. Another subtle temptation is disappointments with God, watch out for our disappointments, because unmet expectations can harden the not-yet surrendered heart (why? Because we can withdraw from prayer after unanswered prayers, allowing bitterness to grow quietly, interpreting God’s timing as indifference for lack of patience). Pain, grief and suffering can also draw us away from God, that is why the devil uses trauma to attack people on the daily, this is a dangerous, pain can either deepen faith or distort it. Naomi renamed herself “Mara” (bitter) in Ruth 1. Remedy, Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted”. Hidden and “private” sin can draw our gaze off God, sin always redirects our gaze.
    .
Every temptation shares one root, something else promises what only God can truly give: security, identity, control, comfort, joy or hope. Are we balanced in Him? Are we well provided for all our needs in Him? What lack do we have that need supplements? Ask ourselves, for lack is often a point of temptation. Rest assured mr satan is at the door offering it on red carpet, he knows human’s psychology very well, he is the ancient tempter after all. Eve lacked wisdom as God defined it, tempted to take it prematurely. Jesus lacked food after fasting, tempted with all manners of proposals. Israel lacked water, food, and security, hence tempted to grumble, doubt, and return to Egypt asap. Catch your thoughts, catch your fantasies, and bring all to the Lord, ask God to provide for all your needs. We must understand our needs from our wants! He will provide our needs, NOT our wants. This will save a lot of heartaches too.
    .
Also, understand God’s timing. Some things are harmful if received too early, Proverbs 20:21 “An inheritance gained hastily will not be blessed”.
    .
May we choose trust over control, gratitude over disappointments, worship and praise over grumbling and doubt. May we return quickly when we drift. May we go to God instead of worldly comfort.
    .

I love this from todays devotional:
    Think about Jesus.
    Dwell on Jesus.
    Talk about Jesus.
    Sing to Jesus.
    Obsess over Jesus
It’s a great reminder to focus on Him as I often forget.

Btw, thank you all for your prayers; finally on the mend. Getting better has been slower than I like but grateful anyway. Happy New Year She’s!

  19. Lisa H says:

SHE’S, I just received this positive update from Melanie, Andrew’s mom:
    “1/2/26 update :
We got back to CHLA late last evening via medical flight & ambulance. Sounds exciting, but it was actually a very long, tiring, and emotional day for Andrew. He is currently in PICU but will be transferred to a regular floor as soon as a room is available.

Other than being tired and homesick, Andrew finally seems mostly back to himself today, for which we are so incredibly thankful to God.

The goal seems to be to get him home as soon as possible. We are waiting on visits from neurology and the hopeful full down-load of the MRI images from Orlando’s APC hospital so we don’t have to do another long MRI here. I’m guessing we would not go home until at least tomorrow knowing the pace of large hospitals.

Thank you for all your prayers. It was a very scary time, and your encouragements meant so much.”

I’m so relieved that he is seeming like himself. ❤️ Continued prayers for full healing…

    1. Rhonda J. says:

      Praying for Andrew!

    2. Cee Gee says:

What a powerful testimony!!! Praise God! Continued prayers ❤

Thank you, ladies, for your much-needed faithful prayers!

  20. Donna Wolcott says:

Wishing you and your families a Blessed and Healthy New Year. for needs.❤️

  21. Katarina Friedman says:

Obsess over Jesus! That is what I want my life to reflect. I don’t want to obsess over the pain, the brokenness, the things that didn’t go right. I want to obsess over Jesus until I see him face to face.

  22. Kristy says:

These scriptures are so rich! I stayed in 1 Peter for so long. SO much to take in. I love when I come to ‘A Living Hope’ in my bible. Even just flipping through to find a different scripture I have to stop and read it. He has given us a living hope! There is an inheritance in Heaven for US. We are guarded by God’s power! We have a salvation that is ready to be revealed to us in the last time.
Salvation in this verse is future – glorification – the final and complete rescue! Our full restoration, freedom from sin, LIFE in the new heaven and new earth. (Highly recommend the book Heaven by Randy Alcorn.) I listen on audio. We don’t talk as much about heaven in church as we should. It is our trust fund. We should know the truths about it. He wants us to long for heaven, to imagine it, to look forward to it, to anticipate it. Suffering has a real season but it is not the final chapter. Christian joy is not the absence of sorrow but the confidence that sorrow is temporary AND purposeful under God’s hand. Right now our faith is real but unseen, our inheritance is secure but hidden. The salvation to be revealed is the moment when everything God has promised finally becomes sight. I cannot wait! But for now I know how the story ends, I know what it cost, I know who I belong to.. So, I will live awake, I will live hopeful! For I know I was redeemed from my empty way of life! Thank you God for your promises! A short time compared to eternity with you.

    1. Cee Gee says:

That book is on my ‘list’; thanks for reminding me! ❤
Your comments reflect my thoughts on ‘completion’ which I think is my word for the year. ☺

      1. Kristy says:

Completion, I love that! God spoke “Grow” to me early this morning. Grow in me, Grow in love, Grow in grace, Grow in peace, Grow in patience… it is endless. Yesterday I was a little discouraged that I didn’t feel like He had given me a word or even any hint at all to one. I can’t think of anything more that I want for this year than to grow in my walk with Jesus. Last year my world was surrender, and I feel like that goes right along with grow.

        1. Cee Gee says:

Different word, same focus! Love it! ❤

      2. Lexi B says:

I get words as well; this years is Pivot. Intitally really nervous hearing that, but realized there is so much in my life that I have wanted to change! Excited to see all that this year holds for me.

        1. Rhonda J. says:

That is exciting…and maybe a little nervousness! But God knows your heart and desires he has placed in you!! I am glad you are back and doing better!

          Kristy- love that!

          CeeGee— Completion!! Love that!

    2. Mia Faith says:

Another book suggestion about Heaven I read last Fall is Touching Heaven by Chauncey Chandler!! It that made me really excited about doing the best I can do while here to point people to Jesus! He had many miraculous experiences as a cardiologist with his patients and in his own life! It’s a must read!

      1. Rhonda J. says:

I was just looking it up to make sure I had the author right and saw it’s 40& off! 10 dollar great deal!

        1. Cee Gee says:

Thanks, Rhonda! I will check it out!

  23. Andrea Lopez says:

There are many moments I’m longing for Jesus to come back soon. The darkness seems just too dark. Today was a reminder for me to embrace the time until He comes and live 100% for Him. Make everything I do and everything I say point people towards Him. What a beautiful (and necessary) reminder.

  24. Aimee D-R says:

    Amen

  25. Rhonda J. says:

This is such a good devotional and scriptures today! Oh the wait. It’s never SHORT…in the pain, loss, trail, despair, even winter if you lived in Chicago like me! For 14 years I said “I’m moving from this horrible cold place when my son goes to college!” I had a traumatic, knock me off my seat divorce, and so was stuck in a place I didn’t like. I had only been there 2 years from Kentucky! I had never seen sunless winters where snow could start in October and continue sometimes till April or May!lol Anyway- I did move and sitting currently on my sunny warm porch this morning (64 degrees) thanking Jesus! Although it wasn’t a season of mourning or grief…my heart’s desire was to be elsewhere. But it came at a cost- I have been living away from my son and family now for 6 years. Sometimes my heart longs to be with them. I am where I like, but not. Just like living here, but knowing our Heavenly home is coming in a short time! Oh I can only imagine!
Other times, like suffering with chronic pain is also hard. I manage, but have never felt whole since my revision surgery 21 years ago. Will it ever end on earth..? We don’t know about our trials. Only that compared to heaven, our time here will be short. (like bearing a child!) But oh the joy. 2 Corinthians 4:17 But for our light afflictions, which are but for a short time, are working for us a far better and eternal weight of glory!” (?-memorized)
We keep Advent with us—living with Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love!! Until His return!! Grief is short. Morning always comes…His Mercy Is New every morning!! He gives us his daily bread! For He is good! That is WHY we stay in the word daily, and memorize it, (write on your heart) meditate on it! Take every thought captive!! Be edified by fellow brothers and sister!! Serve in love and you will bless and be blessed!! The Light is in us, therefore we stand on the mountaintops, not hiding it!! For the darkness will try to grab us…to kill, steal, and destroy…but we say No..In the Mighty Name of Jesus, and take every thought captive!! We put on our daily armor in preparation for the little battles and fine tune for the big!! We stand on the solid ROCK and Firm Foundations!! Amen and Hallelujah!! We build ourselves us in Praise until it makes our Soul Sing!!

    1. Mia Faith says:

      Amen!

    2. Mercy says:

      So good!

  27. Maria B says:

I love the sense of urgency of today’s devotional— let’s continue with the same momentum that carried us through Christmas and the birth of our Savior: “Think about Jesus. Dwell on Jesus. Talk about Jesus. Sing to Jesus. Obsess over Jesus. Pass the time, however long it may be, between this moment and the moment you see Him face-to-face considering the One who has promised to make all things new.”

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Exactly!! He is my priority, he is my all and all! But it indeed takes diligence and then it is second nature!

  28. Cindy Jordan says:

    Superglue your eyes on Jesus

Such a simple but powerful reminder. It’s a simple statement that will be so easy to hang on to this year.

    1. Mercy says:

      Superglue. Amen :)

    Thanks for this. God Bless!

  31. Cee Gee says:

I woke up with this song in my mind this morning and then I opened the study. Wow! I then turned the words of the song to the darkness in the world, rather than the gloomy mood darkness. (song share below)
The last sentence in the Romans passage reflects that thought as I think of evil desires as darkness.
    .
“14 Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.” NLT
    13:14- MacArthur adds:
“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ. This phrase summarizes sanctification, the continuing spiritual process in which those who have been saved by faith are transformed into His image and likeness (cf. 2 Cor. 3:18; Gal. 4:19; Phil. 3:13, 14; Col. 2:7; 1 John 3:2, 3).
The image Paul uses to describe that process is taking off and putting on clothing, which is symbolic of thoughts and behavior. See notes on Eph. 4:20–24. no provision. This word has the basic meaning of planning ahead or forethought.
Most sinful behavior results from wrong ideas and lustful desires we allow to linger in our minds (cf. James 1:14, 15). the flesh. See note on 7:5. its lusts. See Gal. 5:17; Eph. 2:3.”

SONG SHARE: Don’t Let the Darkness by We the Kingdom
    partial lyrics:
Don’t let the darkness get you down
Love will turn your life around
You think you’re lost and then you’re found
Don’t let the darkness get you down

    There’s a sunrise up ahead
I know you’re tired but you’re not dead
There’s a fire in your soul
Oh, you’re burning brighter than you’ll ever know

Don’t let the darkness get you down
Cause love will turn your life around
You think you’re lost and then you’re found
Don’t let the darkness get you down
    ✨✨✨
Sisters, the wait (the darkness) will end one day and we will all rejoice together in the light! Until then let’s continue to avoid the darkness and walk in the Light!

I just hopped over to He Reads Truth. Canaan Chapman ended with this:
“Advent is our annual reminder that the night won’t last. Christ has come, and Christ will come again. The question is not if the dawn will come but how we will meet it. So let’s be people of the morning, ready in mind, sober in heart, and full of hope in the One who is coming soon (Romans 13:12)!”

    2. Kristy says:

Take off deeds of darkness, put ON the armor of light. Love the visual of changing clothes.

Good morning sisters and happy new year. Lifting up those that are low after all the Christmas activities.
    .
Traci Gendron – a friend of mine at church would adopt a new family (our church is close to an AFB) and be their “grandma”. Maybe you could do that for a family at your church.
    .
Today is special. 38 years ago while out to dinner “as friends” God revealed to my husband that I was the one for him. God has blessed us in that we still enjoy each other’s company and through all things we come together.
    .
Prayers please I travel to Maui on Sunday and I am not a good flyer/flier ‍♀️. We are to have a celebration of life and releasing of ashes on Thursday for my mom’s cousin who passed October 2024. While I am very excited to go and spend time with family it will be hard because my mom and her were like sisters and we miss them so.
    .
My uncle is doing better after his stroke and brain bleed a few months ago. Praises to our Lord.
I will post pictures on our Facebook page and as always I will be reading with you and praying over all comments.

    1. Cee Gee says:

❤ Prayers for a great flight experience and peace and comfort for you all in this memorial time.
Good to hear your uncle’s report! ❤

    2. Traci Gendron says:

Thank you for such a great idea! I used to be a nervous flier, but my husband is in aerospace and has put my mind at ease. It truly is safer than driving. Try to occupy your mind. I read a lot while traveling.

  33. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

    Think about Jesus.
    Dwell on Jesus.
    Talk about Jesus.
    Sing to Jesus.
    Obsess over Jesus.
    .
This is my goal for 2026! I want Jesus to always be on my mind, I want to be looking for His return and prepare to be ready when He comes again.

Time is such a funny thing. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately – how time for us can seem so long yet for God, a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a day! (2 Peter 3:8)
    .
So when He says things like He is coming soon – it could be a thousand years, or it could be today!
    .
Just this past week I was pondering time in heaven. If with God there is no time, will it be the same for us when we are there? If we’ve been in heaven for 100 years – will it seem like we just got there?…Questions that we will only know the answers to once we are there.
    .
“Light of the World, you are coming back. Superglue our eyes to you as we wait for your glorious return. Amen.”

@Julia B. – This morning I went back to yesterday’s comments to see what I might have missed and I saw your testimony – praise God for the work He has done and is doing in your life, welcome back to the faith!!
@Mia Faith and @Traci Gendron – continued prayers for you both as you continue process your grief and loss. May you feel God’s loving arms around you and may He give you new strength each day.
@Tami – I haven’t been back to the grocery store since I gave out the cookies, I’ll be back there on Tuesday. The cookies were all received very well – only time will tell how the message of the gospel was received. I’m wondering if any of them will even mention the letter I included in their cards.

    Happy 2nd day of January!

  34. Susan BallDrager says:

    ♥️ Amen.

  35. Adrienne says:

Yesterday’s focus seemed to be on the word SOON… Erin’s words today remind us to WAIT, and she also talks about time as SHORT. I agree that time doesn’t seem so short sometimes!
    .
Ouch… waiting has never been something I was (AM!) ever good at.

  36. Kelly (NEO) says:

    Romans 13:13-14
“Let us walk with decency, as in the daytime: not in carousing and drunkenness; not in sexual impurity and promiscuity; not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to gratify its desires.”
    .
Just as God clothed Adam and Eve, He clothes us with Jesus on the outside and the Holy Spirt on the inside so that we can “walk in decency” and “make no provision for the flesh to gratify its desires.”
    .
Thankful the Lord is faithful to make me “holy as He is holy” (even on the days that it seems impossible).
    .
On this ninth day of Christmas, may we be the “ladies dancing” for the joys of our “soon” returning King.

    1. Cee Gee says:

“Just as God clothed Adam and Eve, He clothes us with Jesus on the outside and the Holy Spirt on the inside so that we can “walk in decency” and ‘make no provision for the flesh to gratify its desires.'”
Love this, Kelly! ❤ We tuned in to the same verses today. ❤

    2. Mercy says:

      Amen!

  37. Traci Gendron says:

So much goodness in the scriptures today. We have an imperishable inheritance! The proven character of our faith is more valuable than gold. We are to be holy in our conduct.
    .
    Think about Jesus.
    Dwell on Jesus.
    Talk about Jesus.
    Sing to Jesus.
    Obsess over Jesus.
    .
Let’s put on our coats of armor!

  38. Juliet says:

There’s a new worship song called Consider Him.
This reminds me of the lyrics “we will run this race, focused on your face. You won’t let us grow weary. We’re not made to sprint, it’s a pilgrimage- you won’t let us lose heart. Consider Him, the author and the finisher. And look to Him the son of man, he is everything!”
Jesus fix our eyes on your face this year. Let us choose to abide, like the branches on the vine. We cling to you no matter what is ahead.

    1. Cindy Jordan says:

Juliet – thank you for the song share. Have not heard this – so good.

    2. Cee Gee says:

❤ New song to me, too! Thanks for sharing!
      VERSE 2
for the joy set before us
      we will lay aside
      every weight, every burden
      to behold our prize

I also have not heard this song. Thank you!

  39. Tami says:

“Let us discard the deeds of darkness, put on the ARMOR of light, walk with decency, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance, be holy in all of your conduct”. I researched “deeds of darkness” and the list is too long to post here – and wow if I were to have to check off those that I am guilty of, OUCH! But I can choose daily to put on the “armor” of light – and it is a choice. The word “armor” caught my attention and this is what I found: “Using the image of armor, Paul emphasizes readiness and defense—Christians are called to actively resist sin and temptation by living in the light of Christ. Practically, the armor of light includes truth instead of deception, self-control instead of excess, purity instead of immorality, love instead of hostility, humility instead of pride, and obedience instead of spiritual apathy. It is “light” because it reflects God’s character, exposes darkness, and aligns believers with the coming day of Christ’s kingdom.”
    Amen!

    1. Kelly (NEO) says:

      Amen

    2. Adrienne says:

Been praying for you, Tami. I know it’s been a hard season for you.
      .
I used the word, “Ouch” too before I even read your comment. We must be on the same wavelength today.
      .
Have a beautiful day, sweet sister!

      1. Tami says:

        Yes we are:)

    3. Laurel Wild says:

Thank-you, Tami, for the additional insights in armor. The list of comparisons makes it easier to understand what to pursue versus what to turn away from.

      1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, it’s good, I copied to save!

    4. Cee Gee says:

We shared similar thoughts today! ❤ Thank for your finds! ❤

    5. Kristy says:

      Good stuff!

  40. Therese says:

“See! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Rev3:20

I love this verse. My pastor did a study on this years ago. Notice who’s inside and who’s outside? WE have to choose to open the door and invite him into our lives.

    1. Cee Gee says:

Wiersbe notes this is addressing the Laodicean church.

      MacArthur notes:
“I stand at the door and knock.
Rather than allowing for the common interpretation of Christ’s knocking on a person’s heart, the context demands that Christ was seeking to enter this church that bore His name but lacked a single true believer. This poignant letter was His knocking. If one member would recognize his spiritual bankruptcy and respond in saving faith, He would enter the church.”

  41. Searching says:

1 Peter 1:18-21 …redeemed …with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.  He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
    .
The unknown of the new year, or even the next 5 minutes. Our faith and hope are in God so we don’t need to fear. The future is unknown to us but known to God and He will walk with us each step of the way. When I look back to this time last year and all that has happened since, I’m thankful for the protection, provision, wisdom, comfort and guidance God provided.
    .
RHONDA J yes, that was all for yesterday and I had to dig deep for even that dab, sister, as responsibilities are piling up and beginning to feel nearly impossible ❤️
CEE GEE, MERCY, RHONDA J, TINA, KIMBERLY, GWINETH52, SHARON JERSEY GIRL, LYNNE FROM AL and so many more – your sharing of thoughts and insights add so much value to our community of sisters, thank you.
ALL THE SISTERS, especially those who are praying without commenting or are occasional commenters (LYNNE FROM AL and countless unknowns) – your prayers are priceless. It means so much to know we are all supported by prayers of our sisters here. Let’s continue to pray, especially for the as yet unanswered prayers.

    1. Rhonda J. says:

      Amen!!

You give so much wisdom and encouragement each day to us our Dear Searching! Prayers that you feel some peace today, and that you take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Hugs! “Peace…be still- storm!” Experiencing a little storm stirs us up so the calm feels amazing.

      1. Kelly (NEO) says:

Agree! Peace to your heart and mind, Searching.

      2. Cee Gee says:

        Amen! ❤

    2. Cee Gee says:

Agreeing with you in prayer and thankfulness to God and this community of sisters!

Re: yesterday’s comment- as the old Brylcreem commercial used to say,
      “…a little dab’ll do ya” ☺☺☺

Praying for you, sister, as you balance the many plates you are twirling! Love and hugs!!!❤❤❤

    3. Mercy says:

You were missed. Amen SEARCHING to the countless unknown prayer warriors who have quietly walked alongside and uphold us through prayers- the victories of our testimonies are for them. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    4. Mercy says:

Praying sister that you take one day at a time. May the Lord give you extra help, grace for time, and peace amidst high demands pressing in. Hugs and love.

  42. Stephanie says:

I think of the prophets who proclaimed things they could not even begin to understand for they had not known Jesus Christ. And yet, the Spirit was upon them and they proclaimed the truth of salvation long before it even came to be.

1 Peter is so rich in theology. It is a call to my own heart to live in such a way that others see Jesus in me. His blood was my ransom – in that I cannot help but rejoice. Romans reminds me the urgency of sharing the gospel…and we have the privilege of knowing Jesus, we access to the Scriptures to proclaim the truth of the Gospel and extend the invitation to all.

Lord, give me a heart for the lost. Give me an urgency to share the good news of salvation with others. And, help me Lord to live my life walking in obedience to you rather than giving in to my sinful desires. Amen

    1. Kristy says:

Agree Stephanie. Their obedience benefited future believers. I love how scripture says v. 12 “It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you .” They knew it wasn’t landing in their lifetime. Their prophesy is our present faith. SO amazing!!!

  43. Laura says:

This devotional reading today was like a cool drink in the desert for me. This is a hard time of year for me. I am feeling depressed. I look back over the year past and see how I didn’t do what I wanted, unmet expectations, things going wrong, etc, etc. It is just a train that wants to run me down. But God…. “make no provision for the flesh” (Rom 13:14), “you are being guarded by God’s power through faith” (I Pet 1:5), “you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life” (I Pet 1:18).
I agree that I need to “obsess over Jesus” and “superglue” my eyes to Him.
I can smile today (and mean it). Not sure on the rejoicing yet but this has lifted me today.

    1. Searching says:

      ❤️

    2. Tami says:

      Hi Laura. Yes, me too!
      Think about Jesus.
      Dwell on Jesus.
      Talk about Jesus.
      Sing to Jesus.
      Obsess over Jesus.
Thank you for sharing! Praying the darkness will lift and you can give yourself some grace:)

    3. Cee Gee says:

After gloominess yesterday, I woke up today thinking
“it’s a new day, it’s a new year- His mercies are new every morning!”

  44. Susan Burley says:

Loved this group of scriptures & devotional! Resolutions aren’t really my thing; however, I do like to pick out a word or two to describe the year I want to have. My words for 2026 are joyful & abundant. It felt like a God wink reading 1 Peter 1:6 that reminds us there is wonderful joy ahead after we face trials! Thank you Lord for seeing and hearing us!

  45. Libby K says:

Obsess over Jesus. I love that.

  46. LaRae Taylor says:

    Love that!

  47. Marya Kat says:

Such a great devotion to help bridge the transition to a New Year when many of us struggle with anxiety and fear of the unknown. (At least I do!)

  48. Brandi Young says:

The prayer at the end… Oh man! Superglue my eyes to you Jesus!

  49. Sally B. says:

Oh Ladies – doesn’t it just give us goosebumps to think about that moment when we will see Him face to face!! This Advent study has really been such a good reminder for me that we need to “superglue” our eyes on Jesus as we wait for that Second Advent!! Whether is then or when he calls us home to rest, let us walk in a manner worthy of our Lord Jesus, rejoicing in the wonder and grace of our glorious salvation and share it with all we meet!

    1. Kelly (NEO) says:

      YES!

    2. Catherine McVey says:

      Yes!! Amen! ❤️

  50. Civana Demerson says:

    ERIN DAVIS, thank you..
    .
The hymn, Turn your eyes upon Jesus, came to mind, as i sing along.. here are the words..
    .
    1. O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!
    .
    Refrain:
    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
    2. Thro’ death into life everlasting,
    He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion–
For more than conqu’rors we are!
    .
    3. His Word shall not fail you–He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
    His perfect salvation to tell!
    .
Turning my eyes firmly on Jesus..
    .
    Amen.
    .
Happy Friday my loves.. Blessings abundant for your weekend covered in love, hugs and prayers ❤️
