Isaiah 42:8

Scripture is God breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

During this reading plan, we are memorizing our key verse. We’ll continue with the second half.

“I am the LORD. That is my name,
and I will not give my glory to another
or my praise to idols.”
—Isaiah 42:8

That IS His name! Do you remember when we were kids and someone would say: (usually a boy) “that’s my name, don’t wear it out” Well, this is our Father God’s name and we will never ever wear it out! It’s the very reason of our existence and we stand today with assurance that some day (perhaps soon) our Jesus will come for us! Meanwhile we share with others this Good News! I have a friend in Texas and I immediately contacted her. She’s four-hours away from the area affected by this catastrophe. As someone who works at a school my heart went out to these little ones. I felt so sad to know these little ones must of been so scared and didn’t even know what was going on. We hold on to hope that they will be found and our prayers go out the parents as they wait for answers. My heart goes out to them.

I really have nothing to add to this. This verse says it all in a nutshell.

My mind is awhirl right now with how people could truly worship a handcrafted ‘deity’ instead of the One True God. I know there are many ‘idols’ in our world that scream for our devotion, but you sisters are right on point!
Our God may have many names, but He is still ONE GOD.Thankful we have His Word to guide and encourage us!

    BG verse today Matthew 24:35
    .
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
    .
That’s why we are here, sisters, studying these words written and saved for us. Praying for the lost, that they will read them too ❤️

SANDI – praying for safe travels for Lydia and the other girls, and for a week that blesses them beyond what we can imagine.
    .
Praying for the flood victims as the flooding spreads to other areas, and with additional rain coming, and for the families who have lost loved ones.

Heavenly Father, you and you alone are worthy of my praise. My devotion, my time, my heart, my commitment, my will all belong to you. Forgive me Lord when I get distracted by the meaningless, the idle, the empty, the draw of fleshly desire, comfort and complacency and chasing after all that brings an empty, earthly fulfillment. It sets You aside and offers no honor and glory to you, forgive me Lord. There is nothing or no one that is worthy of my time, my undivided heart and my praise moreso than you, my precious Savior and my Lord. May you be exalted, glorified, and lifted high in my life. Amen

The song Give us Clean Hands by Chris Tomlin comes to mind this morning.

Always so thankful for this community and space and the depth and richness of insights, reflections, inspiration, spuring one another on prayerful support. We are all better for having been here. Sunday Blessings, SRT sisters.❤️

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, that is my (our) prayer today! Surrendered. And the song with that name comes to mind again that I listened to just earlier by Benjamin William Hastens and BL “Abandoned.” And “Lost In YOUR LOVE” by BL
I just want to repeat again what you just said Wendy…it shall be a wonderful, honest prayer for my week—

There is nothing or no one that is worthy of my time, my undivided heart and my praise more so than you, my precious Savior and my Lord. May you be exalted, glorified, and lifted high in my life. Amen

I am the Lord; that is my name; I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to carved idols. Isaiah 42:8

  15. Tina says:

“I am the LORD. That is my name,
and I will not give my glory to another
    or my praise to idols.”
    .
That is a mic drop right there!
    .
    Nothing else need be said!
    .
Glory is His and His alone, and as for praise, God only saves that for those who love, know, praise, rever, trust, believe, and hope in Him..not the things or idols we think are worthy..
    .
    BUT GOD..
    .
He promises that as we Glorify Him, so He, God, sings His delight, love, gladness and joy over us/you.
    .
As I Glorify you and bring you glory Lord God, may I hear, feel and know your voice as you sing over me in delight..
    .
    Amen..
    .
Happy Sunday ladies.. Rest in Him knowing He truly is your peace giver..
    Much love..

  16. Rhonda J. says:

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens. Let your glory be over all the earth!

My heart is steadfast O God, my heart is steadfast. I will sing and make melody. Awake my soul, awake, O harp and lyre.

I will give thanks to you, o Lord, among the peoples,
I will sing praises to you among the nations,
For your steadfast love is as high as the heavens and your faithfulness extends to the clouds.

Be exalted, O God, be exalted above the heavens.
Let your glory be over all the earth.

    Psalm 57 (some parts excluded)

I sing this Psalm most days to music that I found on youtube by a guy named Jason Silver. It really helps commit to memory.

    Have a great Sunday!
