Having very emotional few weeks and months I do trust in God to help me with my chronic pain. Maybe my healing will come after I die and am united with Christ!? Been struggling a lot with chronic autoimmune CIDP the chronic type of GBS. meltdown after meltdown and literally crying to God asking him to heal me or to help me make the most of my situation so I can better serve Him. It’s so hard but I keep remembering this study guide….faith is where it’s all everyone. For all of us, we keep moving towards the reward of being in eternity with Jesus and The Lord God Almighty. Reunion!! It will be worth all this suffering. Many hugs and much Love SHES.

I love how God saves his people. I may never have walked across the Red Sea, but God has delivered me from other things in this life. He continues to deliver me from anxiety, loneliness and low self esteem. I know that he will continue to show up in my life.
How does this story help or equip you to respond to God in faith today?
I can respond in faith knowing that not only is God real, He is always with us, He listens to us, He knows us, He wants to help us, and through Jesus and His Spirit God will save us and bring us HOME.
‘Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation that he will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you must be quiet. Exo 14:13-14
The “you must be quiet” stood out to me. No grumbling, no complaining, no whining, just trusting the Lord has whatever I’m facing and letting Him take care of it. How different that is than endlessly worrying and trying to control circumstances out of my control.
Today what stood out to me is the Lord rebuke Moses for crying. One verse, Moses told people to stand firm, be strong, all those great things in a motivational speech (Exodus 14:13-14), and the very next verse, the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell them….” (Exodus 14:15). Have you been rebuked by God for crying? God rebukes Moses for being an emotional leader. If we are reading between the lines here, our emotions are the snares to the breakthrough faith. Please don’t be led by emotions and fears. We must learn to overcome them or they will turn us back. Emotion and fear filled believers displease God (without faith it is impossible to please God). That renders us weak Christians (amen to a she that mentions this). God calls us to be his kings and priests unto Him, and as kings that means, we are to have dominion, to take authority and to rule, to lead into God’s direction. Search our hearts and search our dominions, whatever that might be, are there victories in our reign? Be led by faith, and trust in Him who co-labors with us, who never forsakes us. But we must do the hard work of aligning ourselves with Him, aligning our thoughts to His thoughts, bending the stiff neck of ours. Think like God. How? By studying His thoughts, His ways, His responses. Learn to think like Him. Think victories. Think good health. Think righteousness. Think holiness. Think resilience and long endurance. On the flip side, if we are led by our mighty and faulty emotions, we fall prey to the enemies’ dominion, and will end up in the rabbit hole, complaining and murmuring against God…. “Lord it’s better for me to serve my enemies [the Egyptian] than to die here” (Exodus 14:12), and we can die a foolish death. Can you imagine? Yet, this happens so often to God’s people when they are in the tension of hardship, in spiritual warfare, so close to a breakthrough. Don’t give up. God never leads us this far to let us die. “Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?” says the LORD. “Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?” says your God (Isaiah 66:9). No. Don’t render God unfaithful to His promises. Let the praise be given to Him whose mercies endure forever. “For He delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper. He has pity on the weak and the needy, and saves the lives of the needy. From oppression and violence He redeems their life, and precious is their blood in his sight” (Psalm 72:12-14). Be strong. Arm yourselves with the promises of God, all are yes and amen. Wait for the Lord and march forth. He has overcome this world. And we can do all things through Him who strengthens us.

Also what really stood out to me today was Exodus 14:26-27. The Lord said and Moses DID!
It didn’t say The Lord “asked” Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea… The Lord SAID stretch out your hand over the sea so that the water may come back on the Egyptians. So Moses stretched out his hand.
The Lord told Moses and Moses did it. Period. I need to be more like that. I think sometimes we can be weak Christians. What is the Lord asking me to do right now? Oh I’m just praying about what God wants from me. No what is the Lord telling me to do and am I doing it? Period. Lots to ponder today.
This shook me today! The events of this week along with how this study has timed out so perfectly with our real life circumstances has overwhelmed me. I woke up so excited for the Red Sea story. It has always been one of my most favorites in the Bible and one like most of us here that we have read over and over again. I saw it in such a different entirety today. How does this story help me respond in Faith today? It helps me remember that HE is the Lord and He will reign forever and ever! It makes me repent of my lack of faith in him over the last 12 years or so.. it’s like I had lost faith that our country would ever return to the morals of scripture, that my kids would just have to live in a world that disregarded the Bible, that they would always have to live defensively for Jesus (I hope this is making sense) but no! We serve this same God. We are not the first people to face such dark times, God still hears our cries….he is the God of unity! There will always be people that try to fight his ways but us believers have to stand up for his word and for his ways and for the first time in a very long time I feel like people are taking a stand on right vs wrong. No president can save us, only God can through people that have faith to pray bold prayers and to turn to him for help. Lord may we rise up for you and see ourselves as the people whom you PURCHASED whom you are waiting to deliver if we cry out and trust you! Thank you for using your word and the real life events of Moses to remind me that we will face opposition but you are in the thrown and when it gets dark and when we feel like we are in the wilderness with no way out that you WILL fight for us. We are yours, and you will be with us when we pass through the waters. For you are the Lord our God, the Holy one of Israel, and our savior! May we keep the main thing the main thing always…. Looking ahead to you, remembering this land is temporary and it is ALL about you, we just need to grab as many people along the way to be sure they make it to our homeland that you are preparing for us. And no matter how dark it may get at times give us the strength to press on, trusting that you are who you say you are. Lord I pray that this is the beginning of a revival, not because of who won an earthly election, but bc we are the most united we have been in a very long time…. And only YOU could accomplish this! I thank you that you hear our prayers, I thank you for the power of prayer of your people. May we truly rise up for you in Faith and action!

Oh for sure we are weak Christians. I don’t even like the term anymore-“Christians,” because we haven’t really been living as followers with eagerness and a fire inside of us! We need the Holy Spirit fire that makes us Strong and Courageous, and Mighty as Warriors!! And I am lecturing myself, because Jesus died a horrible death for us…and he will deny us in front of the Father if we are not standing up for His truth! We are guilty if we know and don’t do what he calls us to do! Those in the world we do not judge, because they don’t have the Spirit. Christians are different—We have been given the Spirit…but we still don’t have to “utilize” for lack of a better word…and we are backsliders without even realizing it. If we are not growing closer to God—Are you closer to him than you were last year?—then we will be spit out. Words worth heeding. I am glad to see that SO many “Christ-followers” are standing up even with backlash!
I see the Lord God keeping His promises, as He ALWAYS does. The promise of v 13-14 (Ex 12), that The Lord will fight for them and deliver them, is fulfilled in v 30. The promise of v 17-18, that The Lord will gain glory, is fulfilled in v 25 when the Egyptians acknowledge The Lord is fighting for the Israelites and in v 31 when the Israelites acknowledge God’s great power displayed in their deliverance.
I also see the presence of the trinity at the Red Sea — the angel of God as the preincarnate Christ, the Lord God in the pillar of fire/cloud, and the Spirit of God in the strong east wind (the Song of Moses in Ex 15 likens it to “the blast from your nostrils” and “you blew with your breath.”) <3

The first thing that struck me is this: Believers can do things that nonbelievers can’t. (Heb 11:29) We can do impossible things because of God’s great power and provision in our lives. When the nonbeliever tries to do things like this, they don’t succeed. Amazing!!!!
What impossible thing are you looking at today? You can do it, because God is God, He is powerful and faithful to provide and protect His children.

This reading always reminds me that I am not walking/fighting alone nor am I doing anything in my own strength as long as I am putting my trust in God and humbling myself to Him.

When I a read this, I see such a loving Father making a way for His children. He leads them away from what enslaved them and protected them from the enemy!
This is what He does for us! Can you imagine walking through the sea with a wall of water on both sides and the ground underneath is dry? Or your enemy is in hot pursuit but then they are swept away by the same sea you are walking through! I’m sure there were some who shook with fear. But as you get to the shore safe, what a celebration! This is a picture of us walking through this world and getting safely to our eternal home! What a celebration!

I’m not gonna lie, its hard to believe in the rough circumstances of life that God is working just as close as He always is in *every* piece. But at very least, it is what I tell myself even if I don’t feel it, and it is a great start to the peace that surpasses all understanding!
Two things I hadn’t noticed or really pondered before… God sent an east wind ALL NIGHT… good to remember when I can’t sleep!

I love to refer to “Red Sea” miracles in mine and others lives! We are quick to forget, stiff-necked people just like the Israelites. Even after amazing miracles that we see, know, and feel…then as time goes by and the next problem comes- back to anxiety and fear revert! When we we learn to trust in EVERY situation?! I would like to think I am better as my walk is stronger. I know HE is my Shepherd, my Savior, my King, and my God. He is my everything!! (Reminds me of the CeCe song- That’s My King!)
Remember it is only a few days later that after this AMAZING miracle that they all experienced themselves, that they are hungry and complaining and say they would have been better off in Egypt as slaves…at least they would be eating good Egyptian food!! Haha..sounds like exactly how I would be!! I need food!! I’m Hangry!!!
My first scripture memorization verse 2 years ago (now I have about 6 under my belt!! yay) is–
Psalm 55:22 “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will not let the righteous be shaken.”
I’m not sure about that word “shaken,” there are probably better translations..because for sure we will go through the trials shaking…yet knowing He has us in his embrace and calms the shaking even though we are experiencing it! We will go through the storm, we will face the giants, we will be put in the fire, we will be put in the lion’s den, we will come to the Red Sea…and so on! I am so glad we know this…But we KNOW the Whom that is WITH us!! Isn’t that encouraging, that he is with us during the impossible!! He will do it again!! Good song by Elevation Worship right now “Another One.” He is just waiting to show his power again for you, but you have to be willing to turn it over for another one! I also love the song by Chandler Moore and Elevations “More Than Able.”

I don’t think I ever grasped before the fact that God utterly decimated the Egyptian army. It wasn’t just a small part of the army. It was ALL the chariots and the BEST military men. None of them survived. God made the way for them to be safe from Egypt for the entire time they were in the wilderness. They did not have to fear that Egypt would come after them. It must have taken a long time for Egypt to come back from this. What a gift!
God is always with us; going before us, behind us, and beside us. Thanks be to Him!
This has always been one of the most powerful stories in the NT to me. The miracle of the Red Sea story is just so amazing and points to our great God – provider, rescuer, faithful and because of Him, He makes the way when there is no way. He is on our side and will fight for us. Only God can do this. Whatever comes our way, He is there and He makes the way. Thank you Lord.

These passages also brings a smile to my face as I recall the old Sunday School and camp song….”I will sing unto the Lord for He has triumphanted gloriously, the horse and rider fell into the sea! The Lord is God and I will praise Him! My Father is God and I will exalt Him!
How often do we see the Lord’s activity and blessings upon our lives and react like the Israelites in Exodus 14:11-12?! We, like the Israelites, have such short memories and lack faith in times of trouble. I believe that this is why we need to journal, sing, memorize Scripture, look at photos, and appeal to our senses in every way, so that it becomes reflexive in times of trouble to tell ourselves and others, “God has never failed me before, and He won’t fail me now!”
Yes Barb! Our memories are short! It is a choice to remember what God has done before in times of trouble.
Exodus 15:20-21 I imagine this is what we will be doing on the New Earth! In the New Jerusalem! We will be singing and dancing. I wonder if we will have instruments? I love how Exodus 14:14 reminds us that God will fight for us if we’re willing to be silent—and depending on the translation, this may be “be silent,” “be still,” or “hold your peace.” But no matter how it’s phrased, the message is the same: trust God, especially in challenging times.
As someone who likes to have control, I can say that this whole season of my life, along with this study I’m doing with you sisters, has shown me a powerful truth: I have no control. Only God does, and He is more faithful than we can even begin to imagine.
I find myself in this season, when I’ve come to deeply appreciate the quiet of the morning as a time to truly understand and surrender to God. I started using the Ann Voskamp’s new journal, Secret Prayer, which has introduced me to the practice of journaling—a new habit that’s helped me be silent, still, and seek clarity on what God might be guiding me toward next. So today’s study is such a beautiful confirmation that this new season of my life is about letting God in all His glory.
That’s wonderful Maria. I too, never “liked” to journal, and learned to during a hard divorce aver 20 years ago, and now I have tons of journals. I find that you stay more focused when writing, and God brings you to an outpouring. Still praying for you during your trial.
This story is a reminder that even when I don’t understand or see a way God does. He is faithful, thank goodness it’s on Him. I need only be still, which is something I haven’t always done well, But God has been teaching me.
Dear Shes, please pray for my mom and family. Last week a stress test revealed a blockage in her heart. This morning she has a heart catheterization. This brings up emotions for all of us in light of her first heart surgery in 2021. Also, tomorrow I’m having a biopsy to be sure the suspicion of it being benign is confirmed.

Ladies, thank you for your prayers for my mom and myself. My mom’s heart catheterization and it went fine. The blockage was minor and doesn’t need to be addressed right now. They said her heart looks good. She was given advice on lifestyle changes.

This gave some insight to verses 13-14 – From Enduring Word commentary:
“Moses told the people of Israel to stop. This is often the LORD’s direction to the believer in a time of crisis. DESPAIR will cast you down, keeping you from standing. FEAR will tell you to retreat. Impatience will tell you to do something now. PRESUMPTION will tell you to jump into the Red Sea before it is parted. Yet as God told Israel He often tells us to simply stand still and hold your peace as He reveals His plan.”

Another thing that stood out to me today in Exodus 15:8-10 – the power of God’s breath. Here it first parts the waters and then blows them back down again.

In Genesis 2:7 – God breathed life into Adam after He had formed him from the dust of the ground.

In Ezekiel 37:4-6, He put breath in the dry bones.
—
In John 20:21-23, Jesus breathed on the disciples and gave them the Holy Spirit.
….These are just a few verses, I’m sure there are more!

One more nugget that stood out to me – Exodus 14:17-18 – God would get the glory, THROUGH Pharoah. An ungodly, lost, evil man. God can use anyone to accomplish His will and to gain glory for Himself.

I was always fascinated by the fact that the Israelites crossed the Red Sea on dry ground. You would think that it would have been muddy or wet, but the Word says they crossed on dry ground. It repeats it many times. So, not only does God save the Israelites, he makes it easier for them to cross by making the ground dry. They really couldn’t have crossed at all if it wasn’t dry. God provides everything we need. He’s so GOOD!

My heart reflects the Israelites’ ability to forget! God, remind me of all the times you have been faithful. That even now, you will Do It Again! Your faithfulness is unending and you will be faithful in this season as well. You will come through for us in new and unexpected ways.

The Egyptians were pursuing the Israelites and the Israelites could see no way out. There was nothing they could do to save themselves. Full of fear and panicked and apparently short memories – they had just witnessed God’s power and victory through the plagues. Now Moses needs to arrest their panic and remind them of their powerful God.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still” Exodus 14:14 NIV
Isn’t this the reminder we all need in times of challenge, fears, anxieties? God is faithful, we are His, He fights for us. Our part is to learn to be still – to surrender to the trust of His better plan. That stillness is something I have had to learn and am still trying to practice. May we all know the peace that comes in stillness and trust.
I can’t finish without saying that Isaiah 43: 1-2 were my baptism verses, and are so personal to me!
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
And sisters, it has been so for me! Even though I have ‘walked through deep rivers’ and ‘walked through fires’ my precious Lord Jesus has fought for me; I have been covered by his wings. I am praising God for His mercies, his faithfulness, his strength and sustaining power. He never leaves us! I came to faith in fear. I continue in faith in the knowledge of His merciful, unfathomable, sustaining love!

I wonder also if God held the sun back from rising or imparted the darkness like He did when Jesus was on the cross for them all to cross in the last hours of the night (vss. 24,27). Regardless it was a mighty act of His power.

Thank you, Kelly, for continuing to remember us. My son is terrified because of the election results, because he knows that the President-elect does not value the disabled and has promised to gut Medicaid, his only source of health insurance. He asked me last night if he would still be able to get his medication after January. His life depends on this. He is fortunate that I can afford much of what Medicaid does not provide, but he currently takes at least $20,000 of medication per year. I cannot promise him anything beyond the fact that God is in control. So for those of you who think that this election is a sign that our nation is turning back to God, what would you tell my son about a nation who has chosen a convicted felon over a woman of color (who is a believer but doesn’t wave Bibles nor sell them to fund her campaign)? This is a serious question, not for Kelly, but for all of you who think that there is only one party that represents God’s will. Many of us are seriously concerned about our nation’s future right now because we have listened to both candidates and we believe that they mean what they say. And one of them scares us. And our children, who have also voted.
Prayers going up for you and your son, to find peace in your circumstances. God is making a way for you just like He did for the Israelites when they saw no way out.
I’m so sorry for the fear and anxiety you and your son are facing. As a scientist, I’m also afraid for public health and as an academic, for educational institutions. But I am taking strength from today’s scripture, which reminds me to put faith in God and in goodness, and to see that there can be ways through what look like impossible challenges.
Praying for you and your son Margaret. I hear what you are saying and asking. I know God has our country, the world and each of us in His care. I know He will make a way where there seems to be no way. He can use any person or situation for His purposes, I would encourage you to keep looking to Him and asking for His peace to fill your heart and soul. I have family members and friends that think differently about political issues, but that should be the beauty of our country. We are free to think what we want, recently it has been a tougher atmosphere. I think there is probably enough blame on all sides, not trying to be political because to me politics, though, they kind of interest me, is not where the answer is. Wow, the power of God! Having seen the nearly unbelievable during a lifetime of living through hurricanes, I can almost imagine God’s command of the wind in holding back the sea. From the surges that flood the coastline and more, to the reverse surges when the pull is reversed and the entire bay empties of water.

– every day, He is accomplishing the impossible for us. We may or may not be able to see/recognize the effects, but have faith and trust that He’s working to protect us 24/7/365.

I am once again struck by how quickly the Israelites give up and want to go back to Egypt. They obey but as soon as there is danger or threat, they lose heart and stop trusting. Such a good reminder to us today. It also struck me that many people (Pharaoh’s army) died in this story. We often are turned off by death in the Bible. I know people who reject God because He kills innocent people in the Bible. This thinking baffles me, actually, but I guess if you don’t see God as Sovereign and do not revere Him, then the killing seems cruel and unnecessary. But Exodus 14 allows us to glimpse the character of God when He says to Moses: 17 As for me, I am going to harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them, and I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh, all his army, and his chariots and horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I receive glory through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”
Someone recently shared this quote: God permits what He hates to accomplish what He loves.
God sees the big picture. He wants all to see His glory. He wants all to believe in Him. And so death can happen so that His glory is seen and witnessed. How many people have read this story in the Bible and believed. Because God saved His people. Those who believed in Him (even if they had doubts and were afraid). And He wanted His glory to be seen by the Egyptians too. How many times have we said, I am waiting for my Red Sea moment? Death happens so life can happen. God does not just willy-nilly do things. He has a plan and a purpose for everything. I am grateful to serve a God like this.

❤️ I was leading our women’s group bible study yesterday on the plagues. The hardening of hearts was a stumbling block to one woman. I think there are some things we will not understand fully until we see heaven but we can be sure of God’s mercies.
Laura, I have faith in God. But, I confess I have been stymied when unbelievers point to God killing people. I still believe, but could not explain it. Your words”God is sovereign” really pit that into perspective for me. And maybe next time I can use those words to show my faith. I thank you.

God fights for us. It’s so hard to want to take control of every situation on our own. But God is fighting for us. Even if it doesn’t feel like it, he is handling our circumstances; he already knows what will happen and how. We just need to stop and trust in him. Easier said than done most times, but when we surrender completely to him and will bring peace to our hearts and minds.
I thought the CSB translation of this was interesting! “The Lord will fight for you, and you must be quiet”. Still and quiet. Fully surrendered

Such a powerful picture of God being triumphant over His enemies. He gave Pharaoh 10 chances to comply but in the end – of Israel’s Egyptian captivity, just like in the end of the story in Revelation – God’s enemies will be destroyed. And we will spend eternity singing of His glorious holiness and His might works! (Those verses from Exodus 11 were written into an old ‘Third Day’ [I think] song. I’m sure one of our song experts will give us a link.)
So ladies, even when the days are dark and confusing, we must remember Who wins in the end and have faith in the promised outcome!

As the 20th anniversary of my beautiful girl being called home approaches (tomorrow), I realise, as I read these verses and the title, how far I have come through the ‘red sea’ of my life!
This week has been pants if I’m honest.. I have struggled as I have rerun those last days in my mind. I have had tears, just to see her picture or mention her name or remember her.. Julee, is thought of, remembered, talked about every day, but this week.. I have hurt more than I can remember in a long time..
The Lord will fight for you, it says in Exodus 14:14, oh and He has, and as I look over years of my life without her, without my precious, precious daughter.. I have not walked alone, though, this is a journey that is mine alone.
He fought for me when I wanted to give up on living here in the world. He put people in place who, parted the red sea of my sorrow to reveal God’s grace, God’s love, God’s goodness. HE showed me how much, how high, how deep, how wide His love for me was in the beautiful picture of where Julee was, the meadows and her beautiful voice saying how happy she was and that she was alright, as she waved..
The tears flow freely as I recall for sure, how God has protected me, shown me Mercy, wrapped me in His Grace each day, Loved me in my ugly cries, given me a Hope to hold onto and a Freedom, not to be stuck on the same page, of those early dark, dark days..
I have not arrived, not by a long shot..

BUT GOD..

I will absolutely sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted..
The Lord is my strength and my song, He has indeed become my salvation..
This my God and I WILL praise Him, all the days of my life..

Dear Tina, I am praying for you! I have found, as I am sure you have, that certain milestones evoke even more sorrow. In the fifth anniversary of my son’s passing, we were hit so hard. It’s an unexpected, extra pain. Then his ten year was upon us and the same thing happened. But… my hubby died and had the same service/burial days as our son. I can’t even imagine what these dates will be like in my future. But GOD… He holds me.

I can’t imagine the pain of losing a child, it is a path no one would want to be on. But somehow God is there with those who turn to Him, and you are able to be there to comfort, strengthen, and encourage others through their own painful journey. It helps us to see that life doesn’t go our way, we must suffer here, and we HAVE to rely on God, otherwise we go down a destructive path of far from God. I am thankful you chose the Lord and he is using you all that have suffered this loss, to share your testimony of God’s Glory. Hugs to you all with these sorrowful anniversaries.
