Luke 8:25

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the gospel with us wherever we go.

This week’s verse captures the disciples’ response to Jesus when He calmed the storm.

They were fearful and amazed, asking one another, “Who then is this? He commands even the winds and the waves, and they obey him!”
– Luke 8:25b

  2. Angela Greenwood says:

Where is my faith?, I have been asking myself that question all week. Sometimes it’s hard to believe.

  3. Natalia Phillips says:

Where is your faith? For it will calm storms and move mountains.

Such a simple truth that I constantly need reminding of! I love that scripture says the disciples marveled at the act of Jesus but they were also afraid. Fear began to creep into their minds just as it does for many of us when we don’t see God immediately intervene in our lives, but God says “where is your faith?” Our seasons and plans of life work according to the path He has made for us so this is a good reminder for me to be patient and remember that He is always in control!

I teach the two year old class at my church and this was our story today and I love that this was the verse today as well. When I was telling this story to my kiddos there was so much emotion and amazement on their face it really made me see this scripture through a child’s eye♡

Even in the most chaotic circumstances God is good! We need only remain faithful.

  8. Steph C says:

The winds and waves obey Him and are still. He could’ve protected them in the storm. But He chose to still the storm. Regardless, He remains faithful!

I needed to hear this as well this morning. Actually afternoon. My tummy wasn’t feeling well in the middle the night and I lost some sleep. Needless to stay I stayed home to try to recover. This first reminded me of a book I would read to my children when Jesus calms the storm. Its great reminder to me, again, that Jesus will calm the storm that I’m in. The storm that you’re in. He is there walking this journey with us.

I’m so glad for you Ashley Ann. God is faithful and has given you those little girls.
Twenty-nine years ago I resigned from my teaching position to stay home with my sons.
I was afraid for finances also as my income was more than my husbands at the time.
It wasn’t always easy financially but, it was worth every moment and God FAITHFULLY provided every step of the way.
Today I spent the day rereading the journal I had written to my oldest son from the time he was 22 months old until he went to high school. It was full of so many priceless memories.
Later, after everyone was in school full time, God opened the door for me to return to teaching.
Within a couple years I will retire.
I believe choosing to stay home all those years ago honored God.
I believe returning to teaching when He called also honored Him.
Our God takes us through so many “seasons” in life.
I’m excited for you Ashley Ann, you are in a very precious time. Enjoy every minute of it.
God can and does take care of His children.
    Be blessed.

God is reminding me over and over that he stills the storm. It feels like I’m in a big one right now but even as the storm rages around me, he’s right next to me in the boat and he hasn’t changed, even if my surroundings have. If it feels like he’s taking a long time to still the storm, when he was in the boat, he was sleeping for part of that time and I’m sure they were wondering, “When is Jesus going to do something?!”

I’m seeking to know God more in 2019. Would you pray that the Lord would call another woman to walk alongside me in this journey? If He controls the weather, He can surely do this. :)

    1. Mari V says:

Dear Lord, I pray for Kara. I pray that you will bring her a wise Godly women to come alongside her to walk this journey of life with her. Lord, you did it for me I know you can do it for Kara.

Allison, I wanted to respond to your question about ‘changed from glory into glory’. You inspired me to think about it and research it a bit. Paul actually uses two different words for glory.

The first refers to the Old Testament Law of Moses. That glory that was revealed on his face after he saw God. Everyone could see the glory revealed.

The second refers to the glory of the New Covenant. This glory changes our heart, forgives us and allows us a personal relationship with Jesus.

You can explore more. Much of what I found was on a site I use often called “Got Questions”.

Thank you for asking your question. It has been so interesting to study and ponder.

  14. Churchmouse says:

“They were fearful and amazed, asking one another…”

This statement refers to the disciples’response right after Jesus calmed the storm. They were in a boat that was being swamped. They believed they were in great danger from the raging waters.

They woke up a sleeping (!) Jesus and told him they were about to drown. We know how He intervenes. We know the end of the story.

The disciples had forgotten the beginning.

Jesus had told them they were going in the boat to go over to the other side of the lake. That was the method and the destination.

The disciples forgot that Jesus is mission oriented and nothing stops Him. He will get where He intends to go and He will get His followers there also.

When I’m in my personal storm, when the waters are raging, may I turn to the Bible and remind myself of His powerful Word and His presence. May I trust that He is leading and caring for me on the journey. And rather than ask “Who is this?” when the sea begins calm, may I confidently say “This is my God!“

      Yes girl!

I love this Churchmouse. I needed this reminder that HE is leading me on this journey. This is my God!

  15. Courtney Renee says:

Sometimes I feel like everything is falling apart or like things will never change into what I want them to be. This verse helps me to remember that anything can be done through the Lord (even the winds and the waves obey him!) and He will keep me afloat.

    1. Ashley Ann says:

I agree. This week I resigned from my teaching position in order to
Stay home with my girls. I started panicking about finances and God gave me two more work from home opportunities. It’s unreal.

      1. Mari V says:

I stayed home with my two children for 11 years. God provided for everything! I went back to work when my daughter was in kindergarten. I get all teared up when I say this, because God gave me a job at the very school where my kids were attending. So I still was able to be with my kindergartner daughter and my son who was in fifth grade at the time. I am not a teacher but the kids call me teacher. I work in kids care. And still have memories seeing my daughter’s smiling face as she walked into the kids care room after she was done with kindergarten. Yesterday was her birthday. She is 13 years old now. And I’m still working at the school. God knew I needed this job. God knew I needed an established job as I now I am single parenting. God is taking care of us.
