Acts 3:19

Text: Acts 3:19

We believe memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to carry God-breathed truth, instruction, and reproof wherever we go. Let’s memorize Acts 3:19 together this week.

Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord…

Thanks be to Jesus Christ that we don’t need to sacrifice any animals for the atonement of sin. We simply need to ask for forgiveness and turn away from our sins.

No matter how many times I feel like I fail, one thing is true. My Father is there for me. Every time I release all the anguish and evil in my heart in confession, I feel is the Spirit wash over me again and again. A refreshing wash that shows me just how much I love and appreciate God and life.

  7. A says:

Love this- Turning to Him in repentance leads to LIFE and refreshment. How blessed we are to call Him Father… thank you SRT for this profound reminder to carry in my heart to challenge my human leanings of turning to self in blame and essentially, death. He deserves All of Us- whole hearts and whole lives. God grant me the strength to remember this daily.

  9. J says:

Christ suffered. Now, all we have to do is repent and turn back. Returning to God with a humble, broken heart. He faithfully meets us where we are over and over again. He continuously erases our sins and gives us, the undeserving a fresh canvas. We can rest in his grace everyday and be refreshed by his presence. The death of Christ acted as a bridge between us and God. We find new and old ways to tarnish our fresh starts everyday but nothing can separate us from the everlasting Father. We are free to come to him with only the sacrifice of a broken heart!

  15. Beanchanged says:

This is beautiful thank you! I confess it is much easier for me to memorize song lyrics than scripture, my mind has become lazy and I have justified not making the effort to memorize because “I’m not good at it”. Forgive me Lord for not making your Words a delight to my eyes!

    1. Marriah says:

St. Augustine said “he who sings, prays twice”, so its not lazy at all! Put it to a song, and pray twice in doing so :)

      1. cindy says:

        Now that IS encouraging!

  18. Maggie says:

I was reading in Deuteronomy and came across this verse: “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
” (11:18). That is now how I do scripture memory! I got paper wristbands that you get for concerts and festivals and I bought some fine point Sharpies. I write the scripture on a bracelet and literally “tie them as symbols” on my hands. It keeps it conveniently close to me at all times and also can be quite the conversation starter.

    1. Molly V says:

That’s pretty cool Maggie! I bet you do get to talk about scripture a lot! Very encouraging!

    2. Amy says:

So many people have asked me what Lent is all

    about. Why

  23. Rebekah says:

    Thank you, Lord!

  24. Verna says:

    So thankful for His promises!

    1. Shelby says:

As someone who’s there, too, I just want to share the one thing that’s kept me going sometimes: with Jesus’ sacrifice, we are forgiven. We need not feel shame for anything in our pasts if we’ve truly repented and given it to God. In fact, the shame often functions *against* God, in the sense that we cannot do His work, and arguably don’t believe in His power, if we believe He can save everyone else but us. Or that He would even omit us to begin with. His promises, His blessings, His timing.. they’re all perfect. We can trust Him with everything, because there’s nothing that can change that we are saved and forgiven in His glorious name.

      Romans 8:35-39 NIV
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship it persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

      1. Shelby says:

hardship *or (v.35) having such a rough day; posted this on the main forum! Haha can’t delete it, but I figured I’d put it here, too.

  25. Suz says:

  27. Rexshell says:

I love this memory verse, it’ll come in handy during the day and whenever I repent and the devil tries to remind me of what I did

  28. candacejo says:

I love commentaries and couldn’t resist sharing Barnes Notes on this passage! “The expression to “blot out sins” is taken from the practice of creditors charging their debtors, and when the debt is paid, cancelling it, or wholly removing the record. The word used here properly refers to the practice of writing on tables covered with wax, and then by inverting the stylus, or instrument of writing, smoothing the wax again, and thus removing every trace of the record. This more entirely expresses the idea of pardoning than blotting does. It means wholly to remove the record, the charge, and every trace of the account against us. In this way God forgives sins.”

Sins are gone! Praise God! If that doesn’t make us rejoice, what does? Thankful this morning for the forgiveness that comes only through Jesus and His work on the cross. ♥

    1. Rexshell says:

      Thank you for this :)

    2. Churchmouse says:

When I taught in children’s church I would use a Magic Slate (remember those?!?) as a visual for this. What was written was removed by one quick lift off of the sheet. Jesus is our ‘Lifter.’ We
need only come to Him, slate in hand and say “I’m sorry, Lord. I know You alone can erase this.” Jesus takes the slate, lifts the sheet and says “Done!” He doesn’t give the slate back. There is no further use for it. I take His hand and we walk on.

      1. candacejo says:

That’s awesome! What a great visual for children and the rest of us ♥

      2. Cyndi says:

        Thank you! Great idea!!

    3. Leslie says:

      Thanks for sharing that ❤️❤️

    4. Natalie says:

Thank you for posting that! Having these commentaries and analyses really help me to more fully understand what I’ve read. Now that I know WHY the expression “to blot out” was used this verse has a much deeper impact on me. So again, thank you for sharing.

    5. Heather says:

Thank you for sharing this – I love this picture.

    6. Cara says:

Thanks for sharing that. It’s really interesting and a great reminder for me that our sins aren’t just forgiven but essentially forgotten as well with no trace remaining which we should keep looking at and feeling guilt over.

  29. Clizia says:

Amen! Lord give me the grace to pause today and repent and return to you
