This Is the New Testament is part of a twelve-week thematic overview of the entire Bible. As we read, we’ll gain a broader understanding of the redemptive story of Scripture. Each day we’ll read a thematic selection from a different book of the Bible, along with supplemental passages that show how the theme of that day’s main reading is found throughout Scripture. We’ll also read a brief summary of each book and a reflection on how the book fits into the larger story of Scripture. This week, we’ll finish our look at the Pauline Epistles and begin the General Epistles.
The Book of 2 Timothy: Second Timothy, also written to Paul’s son in the faith Timothy, is the last letter Paul wrote before he was martyred in Rome. It encourages endurance for believers and stresses the importance of teaching God’s Word to fellow believers.
How 2 Timothy Fits into the Story: As Paul built up church leaders, he expressed concern for spreading the truth of the gospel. His faithfulness in refuting false gospels laid a significant foundation for the early Church, as well as for believers today. Second Timothy gives insight into Paul’s perspective of hope in suffering through extremely difficult circumstances.

How does God’s Word equip you for “every good work” (2Tm 3:17)?
It lifts my eyes beyond myself to what’s important; it reminds me that there is a bigger far greater than what I can see from my small life. By reading God’s word, I start praising Him, and He leads me to the mountains I feel are big but when I am in Him, as His Word tells me that I am, they are so much smaller. I confront problems properly because God’s word has helped me to see them in their proper perspective, and so I am equipped for every good work.
Question 1: How does God’s Word equip you for ” every good work” ( 2 Timothy 3:17)?
It teaches us and helps us to better have a understanding of our purpose as Christian’s and to continue the work of God as brothers and sisters who are created in His image and likeness, that have Jesus written on the tablet of their heart, and calls us to go out into the world and spread as much hope and the goodness of Christ into the world giving others hope in Him.
Question 2: How does today’s reading shape your understanding of the story of redemption?
To give the hope that Jesus gave us on the cross to others so they can be made new in Christ Jesus.

By teaching and helping us understand our purpose as Christian’s and therefore helping us continue our work as humans who are made in His image, who have Christ written on our hearts, and who try to spread as much goodness and love into a broken world.

God’s Word equips me for “every good work” by giving me God’s instructions as to how to live in the way that reflects His goodness to the world around me.

Today’s reading showed me that I may play a part in another’s redemption story through mentoring or being an encouragement.

Ladies, coming later today because my young mama is hospitalized with a health crisis. My husband and I have her little one but it cannot be sustained long and she cannot care for him. She is hoping out of state family can take emergency temporary custody but even if agreed to, it won’t happen instantly. Would you join me in praying that her Heavenly Father will show Himself strong on her behalf. And He would give my husband and I wisdom and strength?

A few days ago I was listening to a radio ministry (Dr David Jeremiah?) that encouraged reading a chapter of Proverbs every day of the month, as Proverbs has 31 chapters. Each day’s chapter coordinates with the date number(easy to remember where you are❤️), so today’s is Proverbs 3, as in our reading today!
I heard that today! Yes, It is Dr David Jeremiah! I (told! lol) my husband he should do that that SRT had studied Proverbs this time last year and it was SO good! I listen to him every morning in the background as I come here!

Q1 – We are equipped for every good work if we have ears to hear and then act on what we are hearing when we read Scripture. I heard someone say, “if every time we got to a command in Scripture, stopped and did it, the world would be a much better place.” Love, forgive, serve, humble yourselves, preach the word, repent, don’t gossip, etc… when turned into action are powerful forces that start to change how we live our lives.
Q2 – I think John 1 says it all: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 In him was life,[a] and that life was the light of men. 5 That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.
Your so sweet, I actually would like that to be said at my funeral! Will you come?! lol! By His glory and His faithfulness, empowering ME! How amazing…it takes eagerness and diligence, and discipline on our part. NOT an easy walk, BUT where you see where I/we were, and how he saved us, washed us clean, SO good to us…HOW can we NOT share! but like Paul, we have to be discerning and on top of false teachings and those coming to bring us down!
The more we know the LIVING word…the more we are equipped! Against the devil and his minions, against people, and our flesh!!! We should be growing, if not, you are slowly floating down river! There is no static still.
I just loved today’s lesson and thought it would be good for our jail ladies! And then I had nothing to say here because the comments of the wonderful early birds were said great! THEN I came back and read your comment and saw my name. (blushing face!) But just reading that encourages me to keep commenting daily (whether it sounds dumb or not…maybe for someone it is worth it!). We show up daily…we fight the battle, the good fight, till the day of Jesus!
It is funny (not funny), that we talk about how God will save us, move that mountain, split the sea, and slay the Giant!! Yet…yet…Paul was persecuted everywhere he went for the sake of the gospel! And then, he was imprisoned and martyred. To some, it looks like such a loss…(just like Jesus being crucified. YET…YET..the letters had gone out.) Changing the world. Peter preached and the word went out before he was martyred. Steven..killed in his convictions, yet he saw the face of Jesus giving him a glow.
SO…what we think is not doing anything, we still sow the seeds. When we think the devil is winning, and defeat everywhere we go…we are still harvesting!! Praise God!! I have to remind myself that we fight while here, the good fight, plant, water, and harvest…scattering those seeds everywhere we go, online, writing letters, praying with someone on the phone…so many ways, to do it continually, without ceasing…We GET to do that! Are we? If we profess Christ..we should and will! Amen!
Addiction can be overcome. We fall, again and again, but eventually (or all at once) we can grab on to the Savior! We have to be there to help them! Be the hands and feet of Jesus, in what ever area or “field” he gives us! If you are in a busy season of life, you can give money or prayers to current ministries that you see.
I get a magazine called “The Voice of the Martyers” Telling of people that literally live their lives in fear of persecution for the sake of the gospel! When I read these every month, they too, spur me on!! There are few workers with many fields ready for harvest! Find your field today She’s!

Paul’s final charge to Timothy were words of truth, wisdom and encouragement. He was completely honest with Timothy, warning him that all who want to live a godly life will be persecuted. Paul, writing this from a cold, dark prison – basically on death row. He didn’t try to deter Timothy from the faith or from living it out, even if it meant dying. Paul was the “real deal”. He suffered much and counted it a privilege. He boasted in nothing except in Jesus. He fought the good fight, he kept the faith, he finished the race – and he finished well.

Father God, when I reach my last days may I too be able to say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”. It is only through the power and the presence of Your Holy Spirit that it is even possible to attain. May I be constantly aware of Your presence and live a life that pleases You. In Jesus Name

It makes me think of a good way to encourage my sweet Tosha in jail. It looks like she will have to go to trial at the point and may be facing life/ or death. How scary and I can’t imagine, for the loss of her 12 year old. It’s different b/c people might see her as guilty. But I know her heart from her faithfulness and love for Jesus, and love for her other children and parents. Thank you for your continued prayers for her/us!

Everything we need to equip and teach us in every way is found in scripture. The Bible is essentially an instruction manual for our lives. We learn and know the character of God, His heart and it is guidance, wisdom, direction so we can follow after Him, seek His heart and live and conduct ourselves in ways that lead us well and bring honor and glory to Him. Knowing it guards us agsinst false teaching. We must hold fast to the Word in every season, to store it in our hearts, to visit it every day. to let it change and prepare us for every good work. Thank you Heavenly Father for the gift of your Word❤️

Ch 3 & 4 fit right in with what we are seeing today and at least the last 15-20 years in US churches …”evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived”; “the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”

Some or maybe all of us will face faith challenges in the future – maybe heartbreak or repeated heartbreak, financial difficulties, loss of relationships, devastation from natural or manmade disasters – could be any number of things that bring us to the point of questioning our faith and God’s goodness.

The Word of God is our sword in the difficult times, to lean on for support or to stand strong against attacks. Hold tight to it, sisters, writing it on our hearts and sharing it with others.

And yes, made me sad thinking it was at the end for Paul! Little did everyone know that the persecution is what fueled him on and would impact millions of people!! Hallelujah! If we would remember that it is IN our suffering that we could reveal Jesus and our faith so much more powerfully! It is how we behave and respond in horrible circumstances that matter. Do we complain and gripe. Or do we look to and trust the Lord…and TELL that to those around us!! I always say—Journal!!! If nothing else, write it down, and one day, it will impact people that read it, just like reading Paul’s letters!!
I wrote to some of my butterflies today in Prison…and realized I was parroting many of Pauls exortations and encouragements!! THAT is why we put the Word in our minds and hearts so it is waiting and ready to overflow out…!! (heart)

Excerpts from Got Questions: There are a few different Christian traditions in regards to how Paul died, but the most commonly accepted one comes from the writings of Eusebius, an early church historian. Eusebius claimed that Paul was beheaded at the order of the Roman emperor Nero or one of his subordinates. Paul’s martyrdom occurred shortly after much of Rome burned in a fire—an event that Nero blamed on the Christians. [The tradition is] that Paul was beheaded due to the fact that Paul was a Roman citizen (Acts 22:28), and Roman citizens were normally exempt from crucifixion.
The accuracy of this tradition is impossible to gauge. Again, the Bible does not record how Paul died, so there is no way to be certain regarding the circumstances of his death. But, from all indications, he died for his faith. We know he was ready to die for Christ (Acts 21:13), and Jesus had predicted that Paul would suffer much for the name of Christ (Acts 9:16). Based on what the Book of Acts records of Paul’s life, we can assume he died declaring the gospel of Christ, spending his last breath as a witness to the truth that sets men free (John 8:32).

God’s word shows us how to live a life pleasing to God. It also shows from other’s examples how easy it is to fall. We cannot life a life pleasing to God without Jesus.
We are reminded that God is with us wherever we go, to remain steadfast and faithful in love. God’s word gives us the encouragement and instruction we need.

Scripture guides me and gives me the tools to live according to His Word. We must stay sharp and not be fooled by this world and its false teachings. Meditating on Jesus teachings day and night and resisting the ways of the world. To store God’s word in our hearts. Let the give us the strength and courage to persevere in an aggressively changing world.

God’s Word equips me by teaching me who God is, revealing areas where I need to grow, and encouraging me to live out my faith with wisdom and obedience. It’s through Scripture that God continues to shape me into the person He is calling me to be.
Today’s reading also shaped my understanding of the story of redemption by reminding me that the entire Bible points to Jesus. From Genesis to Revelation, God’s Word reveals His faithful plan to rescue, restore, and redeem His people.

God Word equips us for every good work by providing instruction, encouragement, reproof, correction, and wisdom that guides our daily lives! It is both deeply theological and intensely practical. There is no part of our life that is immune from the impact of God’s Word. It is God’s revelation of himself to us; we know Him through it and as we know Him, as our relationship with Him deepens, we are being transformed more and more into His image!
Praise God for His work of salvation that makes a way for relationship and life with Him!

Oh Ladies, don’t we love the Holy Word of God – able to make us wise for salvation (redemption)!! It is breathed out by our very Father God, by which He teaches us, reproves us, corrects us and trains us in righteousness. By its preaching, others hear and are saved, by it we learn of the faith of those who went before us and the might acts of God in the past. By obeying its commands, statutes and instruction we make our way prosperous and have good success wherever we go. We learn to trust the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding, so that He may make straight our paths. And by it we also see we must endure hardship and have hope.
Thank You Father for Your living, active Word, given for Your glory and our good!
