Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:1-12, 2 Corinthians 12:1-10, Psalm 27:1-3, Daniel 10:19, Ephesians 6:12-18
This Is the New Testament is part of a twelve-week thematic overview of the entire Bible. As we read, we’ll gain a broader understanding of the redemptive story of Scripture. Each day we’ll read a thematic selection from a different book of the Bible, along with supplemental passages that show how the theme of that day’s main reading is found throughout Scripture. We’ll also read a brief summary of each book and a reflection on how the book fits into the larger story of Scripture. This week, we move from the Gospels and Acts into the Pauline Epistles.
The Book of 2 Corinthians: Second Corinthians was written during Paul’s third missionary journey. In this letter, Paul defended his ministry as an apostle and described how Satan had opposed the work of the gospel. He also expressed his joy over the church’s restoration after troubling conflict.
How 2 Corinthians Fits into the Story: Second Corinthians contains some of Paul’s most direct teaching about his role as a pastor. This letter gives a biblical understanding of ministry, the work of God’s people. It explains that God is reconciling the world to Himself in Christ and that we are invited to participate in this ongoing act of reconciliation. It also teaches that true ministry in Christ’s name will encounter opposition and suffering, as well as victory.
Reflection Questions:
1. What does Paul mean when he says God’s power is made perfect in weakness? In what ways has God’s strength been demonstrated through your own weaknesses?
2. How does today’s reading shape your understanding of the story of redemption?
Take time to reflect on your responses and share what you are learning with others in the community in the comments.

Amen!
A little late, but read this morning. I felt like I could talk about 2 Corinthians forever, and especially this verse about the importance of weakness. We referred to it often and did some dives into different commentaries (most people want to question what this mystery “thorn” is rather than the verse meaning or if it was physical or figurative) in my Enduring Chronic Pain group.
Most of us tend to handle life on our own, of course saying our daily prayers and all loving God, BUT THEN, when it’s suddenly something we can’t handle, that’s when we hit the prayer closet, our knees, our cries..HELP LORD! And that is good thing, but we need to do that more. We need him, but we need total reliance on him daily. We need to surrender daily to him. Lay down continually ANYTHING that is more important than God, that we put God aside for. It doesn’t seem like a big deal in the beginning..but it is an easy backslide without realizing it until we look up one day and realize we are far from where we used to be with God.
When we are weak…he is strong. After we get out of the storms or the pits, lion’s den we can see we are stronger for it. That God used the struggle to get us to look up.
We talk about that at jail all the time as well. That they are in are dark place…but so is the catapilliar, he doesn’t realize something beautiful can happen in the transformation that happens there. For he is being formed into something different, new life, restored, Beautiful!
I love that Paul says it was used to humble him. And that he asked 3x for God to take it from him….he said no. God doesn’t always heal. He has reason and purpose for everything and everyone that loves him, Hallelujah! We give Glory to God regardless of our circumstances and situations. He’s a good good Father. We have to know that, believe it, and stand on it!
The Lord comforts us in the trials, lets us know he is there. He is giving us, my sister and I, great little treasures right now in our grief. It is a struggle when you question the salvation of your loved one that commits suicide. But I can’t deny the things that God has done (heart). Thank you for your continued prayers for Donna, Scott, and Collin(nephew).
As we’re all human, we’re naturally imperfect. It’s during these moments of weakness that God steps in to offer peace and strength. In my own journey, I’ve experienced a series of pregnancy losses in a row. Each time, I’ve promised myself I was certain I couldn’t face and survive another loss. But it’s through God that I’ve been able to rise day after day.
I am so sorry you are walking thr road of pregnancy loss.❤️
Praying over you sister.

In my own journey, I’ve experienced a series of pregnancy losses in a row. Each time, I’ve promised myself I’d never face another loss. I’m so sorry that you have experienced these losses, sweet Ines! I can’t imagine the heartache this has caused you. I have added your name to the list of SRT sisters that I pray for every day. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much Lynne ❤️❤️❤️
I have been in an absolute tumultuous season of fear following the miscarriage. I just found out I am pregnant again and I am full of fear. it’s crazy bc when I was pregnant with iris following the first miscarriage I was so confident. so at peace. I never once questioned God, because his presence was just so palpable. this time I can’t feel him. and it makes me terrified because I need him. I actually haven’t told anyone but my husband and mom that I’m pregnant, so I feel really isolated. so that’s why I’m sharing here, for prayer. that I will feel his comfort and peace. your prayers carried me through my pregnancy with iris, I literally had dreams about it. so please cover me again, that I can be made strong through this weakness
I am praying for you Lanie.
Lanie, praying for you❤️. May God’s presence, peace and strength fill your heart and mind.
Precious LANIE, you are covered in prayers by your SRT sisters. I am so sorry for your loss! I can only imagine how lonely this feels when you want to celebrate this pregnancy but are hesitant. I have added your name to my list of sisters I pray for every day. May God grant you His peace! ❤️❤️❤️
Praying for peace♥️
Praying over you LANIE, i am so sorry for the heartache.
Reflection Questions:
1. What does Paul mean when he says God’s power is made perfect in weakness? To be human is to have many flaws and weaknesses, and to be aware of that is a blessing. And to know God is to know perfection and the absolute of it. Yet, Jesus is the example of perfect power in a meek and humble posture (born in a manger, a small town of Nazareth, can anything good come from Nazareth?) who is acquainted with grief. When I look at the example of David (I really relate to David in so many of the psalms) who was the youngest son, overlooked by his own father and brothers, yet God used this young boy to kill bears and lions, and later a Goliath. Even Esther, an orphan girl living in exile, overcoming through faith, and rise to political position to intercede and have access to the king risking her life. Moses, a stammering man, slow of speech, called to confront Pharaoh. And Gideon, who called himself the least in the weakest clan, yet was chosen to lead a military of 32,000 men to fight, yet God said that’s too much, and finally reduced to only 300 and still won (thank you CEE GEE ❤️). These characters are like us. Moses argued with GOD and objected several times “what about me?” (risk assessment talk) until he finally went to Pharaoh …reluctantly. Gideon asked for repeated signs (the fleece wet, the ground dry, and vice versa). The pattern here isn’t fearless obedience, but slowly yielding to trust in God, agreeing to take the risk of faith. Lord help us.
.
In what ways has God’s strength been demonstrated through your own weaknesses? God’s strength is realized when we step out into the water (“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me). Courage and the abandoning of self is important. Whenever I step out, prayerfully, with a plan, giving it my all diligence, doing it despite the fear, abandoning my own thoughts of self doubt (what would people think of me if I did this or that?) and casting satan’s whispers on the side, God always shows up. He is the GOD of discretion. Sometimes the result is not visible to me for a while later, sometimes I could live in hanging, with no closure, but then faith (believing not yet seeing) will come in to give me peace. There is this concept called “reckless abandonment” that Oswald Chambers often talks about in the devotional book My utmost of His Highest (which can be downloaded for free on pdf from Internet archive if you’re interested). I have 2 copies of this book in pocket size, praise God, I love this book so much. I never heard much on this abandoning of oneself to God. “If we are abandoned to Jesus, we have no ends of our own to serve” Oswald Chambers, “Then Peter began to say unto Him, Lo, we have left ALL, and have followed Thee. . . .” Mark 10:28. And God also abandoned all to save us “God so loved the world that He gave…” John 3:16. He gave up his self-interest.

I am running short on time so I am skipping Question 2 today :) praying for your requests as I scroll. Thank you shes for your prayers. Be blessed dear sisters.

Update on Becca—her boss sent her a message this morning telling her not to come in to work because the schedule had “fallen apart.” I call BS. She thinks that they are planning to have someone in for a working interview (common in the dental tech field) to replace her. I think that is super underhanded and sneaky and that they don’t actually have any intention of helping her improve her work; they are just taking the legally necessary steps before firing her. I’m angry, but it is also surprisingly freeing because it shows that whatever is going on is probably not about her at all. And she talked to her sister last night, who convinced her to keep working so that she will at least qualify for unemployment. She may also try doing temp work as a dental tech for a while to take some of the pressure off, and she had not actually stopped interviewing, which I didn’t know. So I’m grateful for that.
As far as this reading goes, I’m feeling really convicted that while I say I believe that God can work through my weaknesses, I don’t like it very much, and I complain about them way too much. I need an attitude adjustment, and I need to appreciate how my weaknesses keep me close to my Savior and seeking his strength, not my own. But especially the not complaining bit. I know there is a place for the heavy grief and loss that comes with pain and disabilities, but dear Father, please teach me to find the opportunity to bring you glory. And just to be grateful for who you are.
Thank you for sharing, Margaret! Submission isn’t easy! ❤
Just give me Jesus! My Jesus is ALL I need! Even when I feel I can’t, HE Can and He will. Had something all written out but got erased (madface emoji)
Caleb,Alyssa and I had breakfast together via FaceTime. So fun. We miss him! Yesterday was his first day for training.
Thank you all for your faithful prayers for him to find a job. I did not foresee him moving out,and living in another city, but I know God did! And I love that he his roommates are also believers. It eases this mama’s heart.
Not sure if I mentioned my Tia has been here a week visiting from Guadalajara Mexico. She’s my mom’s youngest sister and only five years older than me. Her presence here has been a godsend for sure. God’s perfect timing.
So glad you have your Tia there as a buffer for this emotional time, Mari! ❤ Prayers for safety and success for Caleb and Alyssa! You have prepared them well! ❤
From our first selection… “ the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ…”
.
Sounds about right, given our current world.

I have a tattoo on my forearm, based on 2 Cor. 12:9-10! I got it before retiring from preschool. It was a good reminder that helped me not to scream, at times!

I am always intrigued by the statement in 2 Co. 12:9 so I decidef to go deeper even though my mind comprehends the meaning, I just wanted more. This is what I read. got questions and Bible Hub are 2 of my trusted resources.

“Meaning of “My Power Is Made Perfect in Weakness”
When Jesus (through Paul) said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9), He was revealing a core Christian truth: God’s strength is most clearly displayed when human strength is lacking GotQuestions.org+1.
Biblical Context
In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul describes a “thorn in the flesh” that he prayed to remove. Instead, God told him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” GotQuestions.org. This “weakness” was not a sign of failure, but a condition that kept Paul humble, dependent on God, and close to Him. It also prevented him from imagining himself as a spiritual “superman,” keeping his focus on God’s work GotQuestions.org.
Core Meaning
Weakness (astheneia) refers to human frailty, limitation, or dependence — not moral failure, but the reality of being unable to do everything on our own Bible Hub.
Power (dunamis) here means God’s might and ability to accomplish His purposes Bible Hub.
Made perfect means God’s power is fully effective, complete, and able to fulfill its
purpose when we are weak GotQuestions.org.
Why This Happens
God’s Glory is Exalted – When human strength is absent, God’s power becomes the only source of success, making His glory evident GotQuestions.org+1.
Dependence on God – Weakness forces reliance on God’s grace, which is sufficient for His purposes Bible Study Tools.
Humility and Trust – Weakness keeps us from self-reliance, fostering trust in God’s provision GotQuestions.org.
Examples in Scripture
Moses (Exodus 4:10–15) – God used Moses’ perceived inadequacy to show His power.
Gideon (Judges 6–7) – God reduced his army to three hundred, ensuring victory was His alone.
David vs. Goliath (1 Samuel 17) – A young shepherd defeated a giant with God’s help Bible Hub.
Application for Believers
Jesus’ words mean that:
God’s strength is available in every area of life — physical, emotional, spiritual.
Weakness is not a sign of failure but an opportunity for God to work through us.
We should delight in weakness so that Christ’s power can be displayed in our lives (2 Corinthians 12:10) GotQuestions.org.
In short, “My power is made perfect in weakness” teaches that God’s strength is most evident when we are humble, dependent, and open to His work — and that His grace is always sufficient for His purposes.”

I love that song, by the way.

Thank you for the reminder of Gideon example where God reduced the man to only 300 and still won. (renewing the mind)
Most welcome, Mercy! ❤

If it were not for our weaknesses, whether physical or spiritual, we would never know the extent of God’s strength. Paul, because of his physical weakness, his thorn in the flesh he depended on God’s power and strength to sustain him both physically and spiritually. It has been in my greatest moments of weakness that I have known the power of God.

I was just listening to an episode of “With the Perry’s” that had a guest on who speaks for a living, but also struggles with depression. Her name is Brenna Blaine. I related to a lot of her story, though my reasons for going to a psych ward years ago were much different, but definitely still awful. It really humbled me in my walk with Christ.
Jackie (one of the hosts) referred to this scripture in 2 Corinthians 4:7-12 which at the time, really ministered to me as I was listening to this episode. It is just like God to see it show up here, too. :)
I think it was important for Paul to see where he falls short, so that in all his gifting and knowledge, he would always believe Christ is the One who empowers Him to do what He called Paul to. Same for us. Not to glory in our flesh, but in Christ who gives us the strength to move and be.
I am struck by Daniel 10:19, which reminds me it is the Word of God that strengthens us in our discouragement.
May God bless you all, today. ❤️
Sounds like another testimony I would love to hear one day!
Reflection Questions:
1. What does Paul mean when he says God’s power is made perfect in weakness? That we don’t have to be strong to be in His arms. And that even when we are weak we are strong in His arms.
In what ways has God’s strength been demonstrated through your own weaknesses?
He shows me that when I’m scared He will bring light into the darkness. That I can rely on Him when my OCD is triggered. That He can help me when I’m Anxious.
2. How does today’s reading shape your understanding of the story of redemption?
That our Lord is always available to speak to and be comforted by.
Without the presence of the Lord in our lives, seeking Him, calling out to Him, we may be barley hanging on, feeling ill-eqipped, wandering aimlessly, easily overwhelmed, lack peace….the list goes on and I’m pretty sure I have been all of these. Functioning on self reliance gets us no where but looking to the Lord to be our strength, our guide our help will lead us so well and bring honor and glory to Him. He is the one who will work through us when we feel we can’t do what needs to be done, face the hardest of times, or step into something new and unknown. There are countless times I have seen this in my own life – in my marriage, motherhood, stepping way out of my comfort zone to serve in ministry, my ongoing health issues. So many times I feel like I just can’t but looking to the Lord, calling out to Him is what shows me that I don’t go on my own, He is at work and when I rely and depend on Jesus He will be sufficient in all I need. My ongoing need for Him is the reminder that we need Him, the redemption and salvation He has to offer. What a mighty God we serve. Blessings on your day. SRT sisters. Praying for the needs shared.
good for church ⛪️ conflicts
I’m about to do the study, but first have a prayer request. I know this may seem trivial when so many of my sisters here are facing HUGE challenges and testings like battling illness, infertility, family issues etc. but my heart is so sad and I’m hoping for a miracle and I know I can count on you all to pray…yesterday the diamond fell out of my engagement ring, somewhere between my home and the church – which is just a walk across the parking lot from home. We just celebrated our 40th anniversary. I remember the day Jeff & I went to the jewelers and picked out the diamond and the setting. Our budget is so stretched right now, I can’t see how we could afford to replace it. Forty years ago it cost $1200, if I were able to replace it today, the same diamond would be about $4000! And even if it were still $1200 it would be out of our budget. :-( I know that God knows exactly where it is, I pray for a miracle that He lets me find it!
Oh, sad!! God knows where it is, and I will pray that He will lead you to it! I would be so sad, too. ❤️
Praying that your diamond will be found! I’m so sorry this happened to you; I know your heart must be sick. Let’s pray that what was lost may now be found!
May the Lord guide your steps and give you comfort! I pray you find it!!
This happened tho me when Gene was in the hospital in February! My heart was broken because I had no idea where I lost it! My DIL said God knows just where it is and will show you. We looked everywhere at the hospital, shook out blankets etc. it was no where to be found. My hope was gone.
The next time I was home to shower I noticed something on the shower floor close to the drain. There it was, protected by our God who knows our our deepest need. I had been wearing that ring for 64+ years. Praying He shows you where yours is❤
wow! thats amazing!
How heartbreaking, Sharon. May the Lord help you find it!! ❤️
Nothing is insignificant to our God. If it’s important to you, it’s important to Him. And it’s important to us. Praying that you would be led to the exact spot where it is.And
Oh gosh, praying that you find the diamond. It’s too precious.
Ohhhh…that is sad and do upsetting, for sure worthy of prayer and have prayed for the Lord yo guide your eyes and your steps. I, too lost my diamond a couple years ago, also while working at church.
Sharon! I have a patient who I commented on how beautiful her ring was and she told me it was fake, but there was a God story, about losing her diamond when her children were little. she said her and her husband were contemplating going into the mission field and thinking about selling her diamond to help fund it. well while still contemplating, she looked down and her diamond was gone. she turned the house upside down looking for it and she said she was discouraged that now that wasn’t even an option. well several weeks later while reading her daughter a book, she saw it. just laying under the bed. she did end up selling it which led to her beautiful fake one I was commenting on. but to her that moment was a confirmation in what they were planning to do. God had used her lost, then found diamond. so not trivial at all! God is in the literal small things
Thank you guys for your insight and prayers about me finding a church for my family yesterday. It is comforting to know that others have struggled with this too!
God’s strength is perfected in my weakness. God pulled me through a debilitating PPA/PPD that hit a year after my son was born. I had terrible insomnia and would only sleep a few hours a night, but God gave me energy and clarity to still be able to go into work and actually function!! I had what I thought was a lot of unanswered prayers at the time, but once I was on the other side, I can see how much grace and love he was giving me. Everyday, I pray to be a good mom, wife, person because I can’t do this on my own! I don’t always have the patience, energy, or compassion to be selfless/serve, and to be frank, I don’t always want to, but thankfully God does. Now, I’m in the habit of praying for God’s guidance with everything. I used to think I should only pray for help if it was something really big, but if I’m stressed about my to-do list or getting ready to help a student in crisis, I pray for help, and even if things don’t go the way I think they should, I typically feel so much more at peace with it all because I reached out to God first. Not sure if these early morning ramblings make sense, but I wanted to share my experiences. We really should be praying about everything we worry about just like Paul had said.
Have a beautiful and blessed Wednesday!! I’m going to enjoy this break in the heat while I can!
Yes sister. Amen to praying about everything and coming to him with all our needs. Praying for your student in crisis.
Such an encouragement yo bring everything to him!!
God’s power is made perfect in weakness because it reminds me that I don’t have to rely on my own strength! Some of the times I’ve grown the most have been when I felt the least capable and had to trust God completely. Even stepping into opportunities like Jesus & Jammies has shown me that God equips those He calls.
Today’s reading also shaped my understanding of redemption by reminding me that God’s grace is sufficient. He doesn’t call perfect people He works through imperfect people for His glory.
❤
Q1 – One example of this is years ago, after COVID, I felt we needed to bring the women of our church together for a conference. At that point I was not involved in women’s ministry so kept questioning if I even had the right to bring this to leadership. I did, and suddenly I found myself in this position of organizing a 3 campus event. We prayed for 50 women and wound up with more than 200! For me that was ALL GOD! Especially because I had to co-MC the event and I am terrified of public speaking. I think it’s the idea of God calling the unqualified. When you step out into obedience, even though everything in you is screaming “I can’t do this”, God shows up and shows off.
Mercy – I read your testimony yesterday! Wow! I want to hear more! Where were you born?
Margaret – praying for your daughter and you! It’s so hard when our children suffer!
Amen! I love this…and also, still shocked when you say/feel you don’t do enough…You did this event AND M/c!! That’s fantastic!!
I was born in Vietnam. And by God’s grace, I came to Canada for school on a scholarship and started university.
Wow that’s amazing Mercy! Now I really want to hear more of your testimony!
With God all things are possible.:
I think about Samson, after the Philistines had imprisoned him. Because of God and an empowering of God’s supernatural strength, he killed more Philistines at the time of his death than in his life. He was blind and tied to two posts and chains. He was blind and had to be lead around.
When we are redeemed and belong to Jesus, we have the comfort and supernatural strength of the Holy Spirit.
” Paul’s various weaknesses are therefore his only legitimating boast as an apostle, since they are the means by which God makes known his glory in Christ among the Corinthians. For this reason, Paul boasts in the very things that cause others to slander him. His strength in verse 10b is not his personal strength, but the strength that derives from his divinely granted ability to endure adversity for the sake of the gospel. This is then Paul’s strongest argument for the legitimacy of his apostleship: his weaknesses are the basis of Christ’s power. For to boast in his weakness is , at the time, to boasting what the Lord is doing by his grace and power.” NIV Application Commentary.
Be my first resort rather than my last resort in my weakness, Lord!
Kelly (Neo): “Don’t forget to wear your armor today.” ❤️ Thanks for the reminder!
God is always with us, but His grace and mercy can be clearly seen by everyone when we are battling challenges! For every “How did you make it through?” There is a simple response “God!” He is my rock and my redeemer.
So true Susan. Thank you for stating it so simply yet so profoundly!
Interesting synopsis from ChatGPT.
Paul seems to have learned something profound: the greatest danger may not always be recognizing that we are weak—it may be believing that we are strong enough without God.
In spiritual warfare, therefore, admitting “I can’t overcome this temptation, fear, attack, or struggle by myself” isn’t necessarily defeat. It can be the exact point where we stop relying on ourselves and begin relying fully on God’s strength.
It creates an interesting biblical pattern:
Human weakness → dependence on God → God’s sufficient grace → Christ’s power resting upon us → strength that comes from God rather than ourselves.
And there may be an even deeper connection to Jesus Himself. The cross appeared to be the ultimate picture of weakness—Jesus rejected, suffering, and crucified—yet it became the place where God’s greatest victory was revealed. Paul later writes that Christ “was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God” (2 Corinthians 13:4).
So when God says, “My power is made perfect in weakness,” He may be teaching Paul—and us:
“You do not have to be powerful enough for Me to use you. Your limitations do not limit My power. When you stop depending on your own strength, My strength can be seen more clearly through you.”
That theme—weakness, surrender, God’s power, and spiritual warfare—runs remarkably deeply through Paul’s writings.
Oh ya this is interesting. Thanks for sharing
“The cross appeared to be the ultimate picture of weakness” so good.

God’s power is made perfect (complete, whole) in weakness because He makes up for what we lack in the situation.
.
God’s strength has been demonstrated through my own weaknesses as I wrestled with my purpose as a young person. His wisdom and guidance as given in the Bible and through mature Christians in my life strengthed me in the struggle.
.
Today’s reading showed my that my redemption is a journey filled with defining and refining moments ao that I wil be more like Jesus.

Don’t forget to wear your armor today.

I have a Christian subscription box Tina that had scripture cards with “But God” on them and I carried it in my wallet for six months. Every time I struggled I would read But God! ❤️
I love this!
Oh yes, His strength is always perfected in our weakness, when we allow Him to work in and through us! I’m constantly praying that He would take my weaknesses and be my strength! Without Him I am nothing, I need His all in my lack!.
God’s power shines through brightest in our weakness. We do nothing in our own power or strength, it is God who works in us! My greatest experience of this is my infertility journey. Despite failed treatments and broken hearts, God miraculously gave us a daughter! His great power shown in my weakness and suffering! Praise God for his kindness and faithfulness to love and never forget His people!
Amen Kayla.

If truth be told, would i be here without Gods strength in my weakness?
.
From my eyes opening to my laying my head down, and all in-between, I am guided by and in His strength whether I knew it or not. I may go through life with a skip and a jump, but honestly, was it me or God that saw me through?
.
BUT GOD..
.
His strength is shown best in our weakness, when you have relied on self and find yourself in a pickle, because your efforts are a let down, He is often the last resort, in that weakness, helplessness. God in His power, is called to, and His power revealed..
.
The Ephesians verse had me at ‘..Stand..’ as simple as it sounds, stand. is not easy to do, yet here we are, told to stand with. and in the full armour of God to stand. We are not weak in His armour, we are given His strength to face our ‘stuff’, knowing Father God is in the mix, ever ready to save us, be in our situations, guide us..
.
Standing today in the armour, but most importantly resting in Him, knowing that whatever life throws at me, Gods power is my strength..
.
AMEN.

Happy Wednesday, my lovelies.. covered in .ove, hugs and prayers..❤️❤️❤️

Yes, Tina, STANDing on the promises! ❤
Although I may not have always realized it at the time, God‘s mercy, grace and strength were how I got through some of my weakest or most vulnerable moments. Thank you, God, for being a merciful and loving God.
