2 Corinthians 2:6-7 “same” “share”~You aren’t alone. God is with you through it all. To guide you. To love you. To be there when no one else is. He goes through everything you go through. He is with you in your pain and suffering. He’s with you in your joy and comforting moments. There is no greater love than that.

What strikes me the most is how BADLY the Israelites wanted to be just like every nation around them and have a king, completely unwilling to accept that they are different, set apart, led by the One true king. How many times in my life do I give up God’s best for a taste of what “everyone else us doing”? Humbling.

May I tear down all of my idols so that I may truly give the Lord all of my heart!

7 And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.” How often do I reject God from His rightful place as King and Lord of my life to allow some far lesser substitute–myself–to rule and reign? Saul is a perfect picture of the flesh/self. He can start out strong, just as I can put my head down and get through for awhile. Eventually though, without the Spirit, I will run empty and end up angry and defeated. Can’t wait to keep reading on through 1 Samuel!

I dont know why but when ever i read about Israel, i feel as if they are us. Israel turned against God many times, same as we do. They wanted a king to be like other countries, we want to be like others because we want to fit in. I realize that this is not just a story of the past but something we should learn from

1 Samuel 9– God always has a purpose and plan for our lives. Verse 21- God uses the weak and humble in spirit. These few things stuck out to me- may I trust you Lord!

This Samuel passage is so sad having so recently read through the Pentateuch. The things that the people were begging for in their desire for a king are the kings God promised to do for them and did for them as they conquered Israel. Them Samuel warns them of what a king will do and what a king will take from them and it is literally what they see already giving the lord. They want to replace God in so many ways and it’s heartbreaking.
But, then I realize I do that to. I allow my desires to take my allegiance from God to something earthly to be satisfied in what I want. I don’t want what’s best. I want what’s easiest. As c.s. Lewis said, we are too easily satisfied. That’s why the things of this world take over. I think I know better and I can’t see the full picture. It makes me pray for wisdom to see what God wants and not just what I want as I pursue the future…-
