The Triumphal Entry

Luke 19:1-48, Psalm 100:1-5, Zechariah 9:9

Scripture Reading: Luke 19:1-48, Psalm 100:1-5, Zechariah 9:9

There is unfathomable abundance in Jesus—so many reasons why “the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen” (Luke 19:37).

So why is it sometimes hard for us to praise God as this crowd did, to recount all the miracles we’ve seen?

I think, in part, it’s hard for us to praise God because we are forgetful people. We wonder at the Israelites grumbling in the desert when their sandals didn’t wear out and manna kept coming. How did they forget the promises of God again and again after watching Him peel back the Red Sea?

But we do the same: We see God’s miracles, and then, even the next moment, we forget and wonder why He seemingly doesn’t see us. But God—one of my favorite phrases in the Bible—knows we are forgetful people, and He loves us still, has called us His own, and pursues us, gently reminding us of His faithfulness again and again. We are but sheep, but He is our Good Shepherd (John 10:11).

The Lord’s miracles today might be huge and visible, and there might be equally huge but unnoticed miracles. As one of my favorite Bible teachers says, “it is always a miracle if you know Jesus.”

It’s truly a miracle that the Lord chose to save us (Romans 5:6–8). It’s a miracle that He sees us and loves us still. It’s a miracle that He continues to pursue us, who continually forget His miracles. It’s a miracle that His grace to us is a well that never runs dry.

When we lose sight of the miracle of our salvation, we lose the joy of our salvation and we stop praising Him. We were made to praise our Creator, and our hearts find rest and joy in Him when we do. Even when sin and circumstances weigh us down into despair, as impossible as it feels, cry out to God and praise Him.

The Lord knew we’d need songs to drive our eyes from the trail up to Him. On this pilgrimage to heaven, He graciously gives us new songs to sing. Start with these today:

For the LORD is good, and his faithful love endures forever;
his faithfulness, through all generations.

—Psalm 100:5

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout in triumph, Daughter Jerusalem!
Look, your King is coming to you;
he is righteous and victorious,
humble and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

—Zechariah 9:9

Praise the Savior, who knew the very people praising Him at His triumphal entry would soon shout, “Crucify him!” But He still willingly died for them, and for me, and for you. “But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

    Amen!

The reading today really reminded me of how compassionate Jesus really is, everyday I am touched by Him and I was specially touched when He weeded over Jerusalem. To even know that He was going to get rejected and mocked all because He loves us so much. I really do love that Jesus is a humble King and a really loving shepherd who really sees us through it all

  3. Abby Ruth says:

It is a miracle that Jesus has cleansed my soul and made me new!

I want to always remember that His well never runs dry, To look back and see the blessings He has bestowed upon me. They are everywhere!

    1. Rhonda J says:

And for you to say that with having to endure Tanner’s sickness and then the suffering of his death(life!) says so much Traci..You are such a testimony!! Not bitter but blessed and grateful!

  7. Cindy Hanna says:

Oh yes! The miracle of our (my) salvation should lead us to rejoice daily. Oddly enough our forgetfulness came up in my weekly Ladies Bible study class yesterday. What a blessing to hear it echoed here today. Thinking that I should pay attention and look around me for the sure evidence of the goodness of God. ❤️

  8. Maria J says:

Lord, let me never be ashamed to praise you. Even when I’m weary, let me offer praise and thanksgiving to you. May I always be grateful for salvation and all that you have done for me. Holy Spirit remind me of God‘s truth and His goodness. From the rising of the sun, to the going down of the same, the Lord‘s name is to be praised!

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, amen. This is hard for the girls at jail…waiting for over a year now to find out something of what the future holds. To praise in the valley. And even like with my sister that is in the midst of grieve of the suicide of her daughter. She still gets up and works and goes…day after day. I might be the one that can’t get out of bed and be consumed.

      1. Cee Gee says:

The holidays are rapidly approaching. Prayers forvyour family and other sisters affected by grief in these days ahead. May joy trump sorrow! ❤

“Even when sin and circumstances weighs down into despair, as impossible as it feels, cry out to God and praise Him!” – Love this Kimberly Girard!

When I would sit in the corner of my black couch, crying out God from the place I once called home. And one day the door became wide open and I was able to finally leave my abusive marriage.

Not once did I feel alone! Though I was in despair, and scared, I knew He was with me! He is my Jesus who NEVER left my side!

I love My JESUS SO much! The best part? Caleb and Alyssa. My beautiful Children.

Such great passages and devotional today. Tina, were you a contributing writer today? Ha, ha. Two short, simple thoughts really stood out to me…”There is unfathomable abundance in Jesus” and “it is always a miracle if you know Jesus.”
If we believe this abd know these thoughts to be true, how can we not give praise and know the joy of the Lord for the miracale that has forever and completely changed us . Our scripture today teaches us of why Jesus is worthy to be followed, of His faithful mighty works and lifts high our great Lord and that we too can hang on every word (Lk 19:48). Rejoice. Shout. Give praise. He is victorious and righteous. He is worthy of all praise Thank you Jesus❤️

    1. Rhonda J. says:

      I chuckled too! (Tina)
(heart) for your words today Wendy!

  11. Mollie says:

GM she’s, would love prayer today for my own miracle with healing from my chronic illness. And favor over my new dr with me.

    1. Lynne from Alabama says:

Mollie, you are one of several sisters that I pray for by name every day as you deal with your chronic illness. May God grant you healing and give your new doctor wisdom. ❤️

      1. Rhonda J says:

Aw…Lynn! I KNOW I’m on that list…thank you so much!! I’m not sure I after made a list of Chronic Pain sufferer’s on our SRT page. and our widows!!

I wonder often how Grammsiesue and Steve are doing!

Hope your elbow is feeling better!!

Praying for your chronic Pain Mollie, and healing!!
My chronice pain led me and another guy to start a “Enduring Chronic Pain” group at church! It was so good to get together with people that “get it!” The stuggles that we face daily and how it wears us down and affects every relationship!! Mainly though, to Praise GOD through it!! And pray for Healing! For those that don’t know- my Co-leader got total healing going to meet Jesus this summer! To speak at his service, and to Praise the Lord that we know our salvation and healing comes from the cross…was just so amazing!!

    2. Jane K says:

      Praying, Molly!

    3. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

Father God, please heal Mollie from her chronic illness. You are the God of miracles, nothing is too hard for You. Give her strength, encourage her today. Your will be done. In Jesus Name.
      Continued prayers!

    4. MARTHA HIX says:

      Praying Mollie❤️

    5. Cee Gee says:

Praying for your journey through this, Mollie! ❤

  12. Rhonda J. says:

    GM!
First I love that Jesus calls down Zaccheius from the tree! Can you imagine! Out of all the crowds and praising, he turns his face to you, and says come, I am eating at YOUR house!! He calls each of us out, and wants to meet with us personally!

Then we have the parable of the 10 Minas! What am I doing with what I know?
While Jesus is away, we’re responsible for investing our resources for His kingdom. When He returns, He will hold us accountable for what we did with what we were given and judge those who did not trust Him as their King.

Jesus comes into Jerusalem!! I can’t help but think of The Chosen scene here! It is done so well!! If you have not watched, start now!! It basically covers everything we are reading in Luke! It brings it alive to real people and makes us grasp it better! The next season 6 starts soon, and it is the actual crucifixion of Jesus.

We, as Christians, know the stories and miracles, and we still question the love and power of Jesus in our own lives. We have answered prayers, and still want more. We praise him one minute, the great high mountaintops, but then the valleys come and we say “where are you Lord!”
We are finicky peeps. We are wayward and ungrateful, and forgetful.
If he never did anything else but give unmerited Salvation, saving us from a burning bit, separation from God, forever—We should be thanking him everyday!

The song “Look What You’ve Done” by Tasha Layton plays now!! So good!! So spot on! He went to the cross for me! It is done and for my benefit!!
May we cry out Hosanah and sing his praises daily, ever be on our lips, joyfully because of Who He is, and not for what he can do for us! It IS done. Already!!

Thank you for lifting up Brayden. And my sister. She is really missing Savanah. The void is getting bigger now that a few months have gone by.

    1. Rhonda J says:

Oh, I forgot about Jesus walking into the temple and the money changers!! Making profit out of the things of Jesus! Oh boy, is that a big topic of today! So much of that going on today! “Preachers” focused on bigger and bigger congregations and fame and followers. Singers selling concerts and merch.(getting caught up in the fame) We profiting by wanting titles and accolades! (pride).
God does hates some things! Actually 7 things are listed! Jesus has righteous anger when he goes into the church! And we should have that too! We should hate the things God hates…sin. Not people but things that go against God’s word. But we need to be wise and loving! But truth. Which is so important right now with such an important election right now. Christians need to vote. It matters for the values that we hold. Don’t let the more vocal quieten your voice. Just as the crowds turned so quickly, we see that happening today. What looks wrong is right all the sudden, and what is right is wrong. Have eyes to see what is coming.

    2. Cee Gee says:

I think you would like the Titus study I am doing. In Titus 3:3-8, Paul is expressing the need to be insistent on the the truth of the gospel.
      .
      ❤

      1. Rj says:

Yes! I need to study Titus! If I could retain things I would have so much Wisdom! lol. Luckily God equips the called, not calls the equipped! :))

  13. Karen Y says:

Did the words “But God” leap off the screen at you like they did for me while reading the devotional? Tina must have been a ghost writer in today’s reading. I really appreciate Tina being the one to introduce me to that phrase.

    1. Susie says:

Yes! I thought the same thing!

    2. Traci Gendron says:

Yes!! I immediately thought of Tina.

  14. Aimee D says:

    Amen

  15. Tina says:

It’s truly a miracle that the Lord chose to save us (Romans 5:6–8). It’s a miracle that He sees us and loves us still. It’s a miracle that He continues to pursue us, who continually forget His miracles. It’s a miracle that His grace to us is a well that never runs dry..
    .
You know, this raced through my mind to remember a time not so long ago when one of my prayer group members announced that God never really heard or answered her prayers..
    I’m sorry!!
We were a prayer group and had met once a week for probably 5 years.. We as a group had been recipients of answered prayers. Had witnessed God in moments and events. We had each seen Gods hand in response to our prayers..
    .
I think in moments like these, I am thankful for accountability. Before we even bowed our heads i felt to remind her of her car and how God had replaced it when her old one would cost more than it’s worth to fix. Or the time when God miraculously gave her the money to pay the gas bill that was so overdue she was getting anxious..Or the time, she so desperately wanted to go to a Christian concert but felt it was a bit of a spend .. BUT GOD..
    .
I think sometimes (often) we forget how the Father carries us and provides for us, and oftentimes when we do not even know it.
When we are blessed enough, to know it truly in our hearts, we sooooon forget as life takes over and find ourselves saying God doesn’t listen to me, or He never answers my prayers!
Accountability, with like minded people, who know, who write the miraclesdown, so we can revisit when memories fail us, who rejoice and praise with you in the answered prayers and in the wait.. for God hears. He sees. and He is good.. and His faithful love absolutely endures forever..
    .
    BUT GOD..
    .
    AMEN.
    .
Can’t believe it’s Friday already.., Happy today wherever your feet carry you. Be blessed covered in hugs, love and prayers.,xx❤️

    1. Rachel (CO) says:

Isn’t it wild how we can tell ourselves (and then begin to wholeheartedly believe) completely false narratives?! What a gift you gave your friend in reminding her of the truth and recounting God’s specific kindnesses to her.

      1. Rhonda J. says:

        yes, so true!

I have so many journals that record God’s goodness! I love to look back through them!! The REMINDER for my Israelite, stiff-necked Spirit!!

      2. Cindy Hanna says:

        Amen Rachel! ❤️

    2. AZ Walker says:

So true Tina. As a divorced Mom with irregular child support, I was so afraid to put my daughter in private Christian high school. Somehow I always had enough and when she graduated I had more money in my checking account. I still can’t explain it! I had faith and am so grateful for God’s blessings during that time!

      1. Rhonda J. says:

That is a true miracle!! Good for you to trust where she needed to attend school in faith!

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, it is heartbreaking what was to come…and quickly we let the crowd sway us!! What would I have done?! Do I stand tall for my believes when everyone comes against me?!
