Colossians 1:17

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

This week, we will memorize our key verse for the book of Colossians.

He is before all things, and by him all things hold together.
—Colossians 1:17

    JESSE E – I will share my go-to verse:
    Psalm 16:8 NLT
    “I know the Lord is always with me.
    I will not be shaken,
    for he is right beside me.”
    ~~~~~~~
    “Isaiah 26:4 NLT Biblegateway verse of the day
    Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.”
    * I think SEARCHING may have already shared it, but it bears repeating.
    ~~~~~
    Psalm 121:5 NLT Another one of my favorites! I use this on birthday cards a lot:
    “The Lord himself watches over you!
    The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.”
    ~~~~~~~~
    JESSE, I will be praying for you along with our sisters! So much wisdom in this community! I encourage you to share with your kids (if they are old enough) how you are leaning on Jesus. Also you could read through all the verses shared for you here, again if they are old enough, and let them choose some favorites, then as you find encouraging verses share those with them, too. God bless you and the babes and guide you and your husband through this transition in a way that will be a source of comfort for them. Thank you for sharing your heart and allowing us to pray; hang in there and keep us updated on prayer needs. ❤❤
    What a timely reminder for times such as these, when life feels messy and falling apart at the seams. He holds everything together, including me!
  3. Indiana Elaine says:
    Our church started the study of Job today. The closing question was,”if you lost everything, everything like Job, even your health, is Jesus enough for you?” I had to think how real this question is for our friends in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. Of course we all want to say yes, but is He really enough? Florida is facing yet another storm that could cover the whole state. Is Jesus enough? A lot to think about.
    Margaret, I know your knee replacement surgery is soon. I’m praying for provision for all your concerns and that your surgery will be successful with manageable pain. God be with you and give you strength and courage!!
    1. Cee Gee says:
      Great reminder,ELAINE! Thanks for sharing. Praying that many turn to God in these hard days of finding a new normal. Heartbreaking! ❤
    Praying for you Jessie, as well as your children.
  5. Traci Gendron says:
    Yes, by Him all things hold together. He is holding me together this morning. I’m listening to christian music and sobbing. So many songs remind me of the time leading up to Tanner’s death. I don’t know how I would do this without God’s love. And I’m so very thankful for all you ladies.
  10. Jessie E says:
    I’ve never shared here before, but I could use some prayer and encouragement today… I’m grieving an ending marriage but most of all, I’m grieving the thought of telling our young kids and changing their lives. Please can somebody tell me that they will be okay? That God will hold them and keep their hearts intact? My longing above all is that they will feel so loved no matter what and that this will not hinder them from experiencing the love and peace of God. But I’m still so scared.
    1. Annelyn P says:
      Praying for you and your kids, Jessie E. May God fill you with his peace during this turbulent time. He will never leave you or forsake you – or your kids. He never changes.
    2. GramsieSue says:
      Just keep praying and loving on them. God will take care of them, and you as well. Lean on Him.
      Hugs to you ❤️
    3. Cheryl Blow says:
      Praying for you and be your sweet babies
    4. Searching says:
      Jessie E – sister, thank you for allowing us to pray with you and for you in this painful situation. Praying for you, your husband and especially your children, for the love, support, wisdom and guidance needed. The Lord says it best, He will always be with you, and we’ll be praying. ❤️
      Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
      Deuteronomy 31:8 And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.
      1 Peter 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
      Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you;
      Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
      I will strengthen you,
      Yes, I will help you,
      I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
      Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
      Hebrews 13:6 So we may boldly say:
      “The Lord is my helper;
      I will not fear.
      What can man do to me?”
      Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
      7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
      Psalm 73:23-26
      23 Nevertheless I am continually with You;
      You hold me by my right hand.
      24 You will guide me with Your counsel,
      And afterward receive me to glory.
      25 Whom have I in heaven but You?
      And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
      26 My flesh and my heart fail;
      But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
      Jessie E, I can tell you they will be alright for many reasons, but I will tell you 2. 1) their mummy loves them so so very much and though she is hurting and in pain and sadness herself, her only thought is for them. They are in great hands. 2) If you my dear Jessie love them and want the best for them, how much more God..
      Keep holding them up to Him, and trust Him to be close and at hand in those sad days and in the good. He is faithful!
      Today I was reminded of a childhood song..
      He’s got the whole world in His hands.
      There is a line that says He’s got the little baby(children) in His hand..
      He’s got you too, dear sister in His hand.. He’s got you all. He will bring you the peace and joy you need to journey this new season.. hugs, wrapped in comforting love..❤️
    7. Rhonda J. says:
      Oh Jessie E–You will be good and your kids will be too! This is where I was, where my testimony began!! And I know Mari V will share with you too! But I was so broken when my marriage was ending and I couldn’t control it—But God, when I hit my knees and gave it up to him, he held me and got me through those hard years. The most important thing is to put your eyes on the Lord! I can put more later-got to get ready for church!
    8. Candyce Abbott says:
      Praying for you and your family. Having gone through this before I can share that God removes things to make way for something greater. Even though this is the hardest moment in your life right now know that God is working to bring you something greater. Something you would never expect. Hold on to your faith. He is with you always!
    9. Julia C says:
      Lifting you and your kids in prayer to the One who is before all things and holds all things together, Jessie ❤️
    10. Mari V says:
      Jessie, so glad and blessed you are here with us! We are here to love and encourage one another. Jessie YOU are loved and so are your children. Praying for all of you. I know my situation is probably different but in a nutshell, seven years ago I left a 20 year verbally and emotionally abusive marriage. My children were 16 and 11. I’m assuming yours are younger. Sweet Jessie, they will be OK. Keep loving and supporting them, assuring them they are loved. Allow them to cry and ask questions. And its OK if you don’t have all the answers. Be open and honest (age level understanding). AND its OK for you to cry in front of them. Mommy is STRONG, but mommies do cry. The main thing they need to know (and I’m repeating myself) is that you love them, ESPECIALLY God. Jessie, be kind to yourself. Maybe even if you can, take a short trip or go do something you and the children enjoy! HOLD onto to Jesus! Don’t let go! Jesus became my EVERYTHING! I am who I am today only because of my JESUS!! I will be praying for those special friends that will surround and love you and be there for your family. Keep posting here! We love you!!
      1. Mari V says:
        PRESENT time, my kids are 23 and 18 and thriving! MOST of all they love Jesus!
      2. Cee Gee says:
        Great encouragement, MARI, and great advice. ❤
    11. Traci Gendron says:
      Oh jessie, I’m praying for you and your kids. God will get you through this. He will hold you and you kiddos in HIS hands. Love to you..
  11. Rhonda J. says:
    GM! Happy Happy Sunday!!
    I usually don’t read the KJV but I kinda liked it with this verse and adding the ones before and after are just so good.
    Colossians 1:16-20
    16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
    17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
    18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
    19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
    20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
    Such beauty in these verses. He is everything. When in doubt, despair, and fear; He holds it all together. These earthly things and time will be just a short blurb in the time of eternity.
    “I’ve Got You” by Danny Gokey pretty much wraps it up. And Lauren Daigle “Thank God I do” is a beautiful summation as well.
    You’re my safe place
    My hideaway
    You’re my anchor
    My saving grace
    You’re my constant
    My steadiness
    You’re my shelter
    My oxygen
    I don’t know who I’d be if I didn’t know You
    Thank God, I do
    I don’t know who I’d be if I didn’t know You
    I’d probably fall off the edge
    I don’t know where I’d go if You ever let go
    So keep me held in Your hands
    I don’t know who I’d be if I didn’t know You
    Thank God, I do
    Amen, Thank God I do too!
    Psalm 57:7-11
    “My heart is confident, God, my heart is confident.
    I will sing; I will sing praises.
    Wake up, my soul!
    Wake up, harp and lyre!
    I will wake up the dawn.
    I will praise you, Lord, among the peoples;
    I will sing praises to you among the nations.
    For your faithful love is as high as the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches the clouds.
    God, be exalted above the heavens;
    let your glory be over the whole earth.”
    After reading the beautiful song suggestions yesterday and listening to them last night, the song came on. I had never heard it, but it captivated me! Partial lyrics here. The sing ends with
    “We cry holy holy holy…”
    Crowns Down (Live)
    Song by
    Gateway Worship, Josh Baldwin
    Oh, oh
    Oh, oh
    Enthroned in glory, my Savior King
    Your loving kindness has welcomed me
    Though I’m unworthy of Majesty
    You wrap the lowly in royalty
    And so I will lay my crowns down at Your feet
    You are holy, holy
    And I will give my life as an offering
    You are worthy, so worthy, Lord
    Oh, oh
    Here at Your altar to seek Your face
    Broken and poured out without restraint
    In full abandon before my King
    Here I surrender my everything
    Here I will lay my crowns down at Your feet
    You are holy, holy
    And I will give my life as an offering
    You are worthy, so worthy, Lord
    Keep Up
    When you walk with a friend, you have to keep up with each other. If one of you rushes ahead or lags, you’re not walking together anymore. And it’s not that different when it comes to walking with God.
    The Apostle Paul said this:
    “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
    ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭25‬ ‭NIV‬‬
    When we trust in Jesus as our Savior, we’re given the gift of grace and the gift of the Holy Spirit. To put it simply, the Holy Spirit is God. We are given God! The Holy Spirit leads, guides, and works in and through us.
    There are times when we’re tempted to run ahead of the Spirit. Because, if we’re honest, He’s not always moving as quickly as we’d like. We might even question if He’s moving or if He cares. That’s why walking with God requires trust.
    There are other times when we’re tempted to lag behind the Spirit. Because, at times, He might be guiding us somewhere that might make us a little uncomfortable. It takes effort, intentionality, and both physical and emotional strength. That’s why walking with God requires courage.
    We can keep in step with the Spirit by sticking close to Him—paying attention, talking to Him, reading His Word, and being in community with those who love Him.
    Because when we’re committed to sticking close to Him, one thing is certain: The Holy Spirit will guide you—every step of the way.
    1. Cee Gee says:
      “He might be guiding us somewhere that might make us a little uncomfortable. It takes effort, intentionality, and both physical and emotional strength. That’s why walking with God requires courage.”
      TRICIA C- Wow what a great word- that whole post! Thanks so much for sharing it! I shared the quote because that was me this week. Because of local friends, a dear friend many miles from here, and this COMMUNITY (as mentioned in your post) I am making it through. Staying in the Word with all of you gives me the boost I need! THANK YOU all, and THANK YOU, SRT for bringing all the beautiful SHES into my space each day!
      Tricia, I loved the Youversion this morning too! I’ve actually sent it as an email to myself, so I can read and listen again..
      ‘Tis true, this community, this band of merry women from all over the world, even from afar neither lag nor go too far ahead, but walk alongside each other.. how is that possible with our different time zones, cultures and climates…
      BUT GOD..
      Happy Sunday my dear.. Happy God annointed given day!❤️
    4. Kristin S says:
      Yes, Tricia that was so good. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Tina says:
    Good morning precious Sisters..
    .
    It has been a week, but Praise God, though I am exhausted, weary and drained, GOD, has not left my side..
    Thank you Father God, Thank you.
    .
    This verse to memorise made me smile.. my heart and soul knew, absolutely without a doubt knew, I needed to hear/read this, this morning..
    .
    I had to consult the Message for a more my kind of language version.. what I found was this..
    .
    We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment. And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body. He was supreme in the beginning and—leading the resurrection parade—he is supreme in the end. From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone. So spacious is he, so expansive, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross.
    Colossians 1:15‭-‬18 MSG
    It’s a lot to read, but OMG, here it is, in a language I get..! The song of long ago, sang when I was young came to mind. He’s got the whole world in His hand..
    2 He’s got the wind and the rain in his hands.
    3 He’s got the little tiny baby in his hands. . . .
    He’s got the whole world in his hands.
    4 He’s got you and me, brother, in his hands. . . .
    He’s got the whole world in his hands.
    5 He’s got you and me, sister, in his hands
    HE HAS GOT THIS, whatever THIS is, He is in it with us, He is for us, has been from time immemorial! In words of today.. “He has been round the block a few times”, He has seen it all. And He is STILL here with us..
    Much to be thankful for, MUCH!
    He is the One and only that can redeem, forgive without holding onto our stuff, He loves, Oh, how He loves us. He is not going anywhere, He is here for the duration.. And that my dear sisters feels a little like Home to me. A place/person of safety where life may take us!
    .
    BUT GOD.
    Right?
    .
    AMEN.
    .
    Happy Sunday, dear hearts!❤️
      This reminded me of a time when I was with a friend during a time of unexpected, extremely painful loss. A friend came to the door with her hands open, palms side by side, and a tiny globe (about 1” in diameter) sitting in the middle. She said – this is what our world looks like from God’s perspective, He’s got you in this.
    9. Gwineth52 says:
      Wow & Thanks, Tina!
      That song, “He’s got the whole world in his hands”, took me back to my childhood too.
      We come before Him as children no matter the time, age, circumstance.
      And there is no place we’re going that He hasn’t already been.
      And by His being all things, everything, no matter what things hold together.
