Approach God’s Word

Open Your Bible

Psalm 19:7-9, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 1:19-21, Isaiah 55:11, James 4:8

It’s always nice to be invited, right? Even if you can’t attend the party or get away for that weekend trip with friends, it’s still nice to be invited. When a metaphorical—or even a literal—place card with your name on it is set at the table, it marks out a place uniquely and specifically for you. To know someone thought of you and intentionally made sure you had a place makes you feel seen and cared for. To know that someone or a group of people wants to spend time with you is warm and welcoming.

What if that was how we responded to the invitation God gives through His Word? What if we saw it as an opportunity to know more of who He is and who we are in light of Him?

The truth is, we have been invited. Every word of Scripture is an invitation to draw near to God and to see how He has drawn near to us. Because it isn’t just an invitation to a story or a collection of ancient texts. God’s Word tells God’s story, and we are invited to discover its endless depths.

For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
—Hebrews 4:12

God’s Word is powerful and effective to work in and through us—to transform us from the inside out. So we can come to God’s Word reverently, knowing He alone has the power to change us. We can come to it confidently, trusting Him for the nourishment and sustenance of His words for us. And we can come regularly, consistently finding God there to meet with us.

Won’t you come?

Satan loves to distract us from the fact that we always have a place card with our name in it at the table of our Creator. In a world that tells us to hurry and check off all the boxes, it becomes difficult to slow down long enough to take that seat each day and soak up time with our Father. He is so good. May we all seek Him fervently and join Him in our seats at His table.
