I write it down and put it up somewhere in my house and I read it every time I walk by it. Then each day after the first, I erase a couple words until I know it without those words. By the end of the week all the words have been erased and have been transferred into my head.

My preacher recently challenged our congregation to memorize the ten commandments passage in Exodus 20. I was so overwhelmed by the thought of memorizing 17 verses when it’s hard enough to memorise just 1! I recorded myself saying it over 2 voice memos on my phone and listened to it on my way to an from work each day, and it worked great. I’m going to use this method to memorize more scripture. Hope this Ella!

When I went to vacation Bible school, we learned and memorized Bible verses.
Recently when my Mom was nearing the end of her life, I was encouraged by
Psalm 23. Commiting Bible verses to memory is always good, when you
    have stressful times in life.

I put it on a post-it and place it next to my clock in my car. I'm always checking the time and this way I see it so much. It helps!
Loving Shereadstruth so much…truly the push i needed.

I actually just posted a blog about how I memorize scripture this morning! http://405family.blogspot.com/2012/06/writing-his

When I used to work in youth ministry I did Vacation Bible School each year and it seems so simple, but we'd have the kids learn the verse of the day by repeating it in a sing-song kind of way. So, to this day, I try to do that with a simple verse that sticks with me – repeat it in my head as if I was saying it to children! It strangely works.

I just changed my phone's lock screen image to the memory verses. Thanks so much for the idea! I memorized tons of verses as a kid, and they do come back to help me. I don't always remember them word for word, and often I don't know their "address" when they pop up in my thoughts, but it's great to have them there. The Holy Spirit really does use the Word of God that you've hidden in your heart to help guide your thoughts.

thanks for this idea! Much better than having it stored away in my notes :)

I love the cell phone wall paper idea. I look at my phone constantly too. One of my friends used to write out verses on index cards and tape them to the sterring wheel in her car. So every time she got in or out she'd read it and at red lights. She also said she'd be thinking about it while driving so she got some meditation time in there too.

I find that writing it down helps me to remember. I have it on the Notes on my phone as well for reference and I have it along with my other favourite verses I've picked up along this plan next to my bed, first thing I see in the morning and last thing at night.
I love that we all feel safe enough to be totally honest. Before I joined SheReadsTruth, I only knew one verse off by heart and that was from Sunday School but now I can FEEL myself growing with knowledge of His Truth and have been able to remember more.

I am not very good at it – but I think I'm going to try a post it note on the wall by my computer. Or maybe on the window that I stare out of when I have writer's block.

I make it my homescreen on my phone. since I look at it waaay too often, it heps remind me to read it again & again and commit it to memory <3

    1. Jacquelyn says:

I hear you Kim about looking at the home screen waaaaay too often!!!! hahaha

I am doing the same. I have an app called Sticky Notes that lets you create post-it type notes and then save them as a wallpaper. It feels like I have my iPhone in my hand half the time so it's a good way to carry it around with me.

      1. Kim Alford says:

nice! I have an older operating system, but I'm going to see about getting that. I usually use Notes or a screen capture :)

Jacquelyn I haven't memorized scripture before either (my memorizing hint comes from memorizing other things for school & such). I'm loving working through these studies with such an amazing virtual community though. I am feeling myself grow! I feel like this community is going to turn into something really special!

i love that idea! for so long I have desired to get into the Word and learn it. I have tried so many times and always failed because I did not stick to it. Soul Detox and She Reads Truth has renewed the desire to seek Him more. I literally carve time out of my day for Him and look forward to it. being able to read and see what others are getting from each day of the reading plan is opening up my heart and mind to so much more than if i were to just be following along myself. It ADDS to what I get from the reading and stretches my thoughts. that is my favorite part of this community so far!

  15. RUaDSarah says:

I have it taped up at work too, so I read it multiple times a day. Probably Thursday, I'll write just the first letter of every word. Then in my head, try to fill in the rest of the words of the verses. The first letter is amazingly helpful! Within a few days, I can usually do it without the first letters.

Just seeing this post. Hoping for tons more suggestions. (putting a post it note on my computer STAT!) (thank you Carey!)

Can I admit something? I feel safe here. So, here it goes …. I have never memorized a scripture before.

I have such a desire to know Him more and know who I am in Him. (and share with others who may not know who they are in Him.)

I know now that memorizing His Truth needs to be part of this. She Reads Truth continues to help me grow daily. I am so grateful for this community!!!!

May we all be better daughters to Him, sisters to each other, and women in our lives for HIs glory.

Just pick something that stir's you deep inside and memorize that! Maybe John 3:16, or Psalms 23. It just tickles my heart that this community is growing and we are all learning from each other!!

    3. Cristen says:

Same here. I've never memorized a verse in my life. I actually find it to be a bit intimidating but I'm up for the challenge.
